Ambient Display Pulse - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

Is ambient display supposed to pulse on and off every few seconds/minutes when there is a notification? It seems like on other/older phones it behaved this way.

What determines when it will pulse?

I'm not sure. Maybe the way the phone is lying on the table. I find it entertaining. But it is weird.

capacitive buttons

Hi. Are the buttons supposed to light up? Mine don't. Is this normal?
They light up on mine.
It does look like it is controlled by the light sensor.

More specifically only in certain light conditions. The buttons rely on the light sensor to tell them when to light up.

Any way of stopping them lighting at night? Reason I ask is I use Gentle Alarm and when 'Night Display' is enabled they will remain on even when in Night Display mode I press the power button off then on and they still come on? Not had the problem on other phones.

Don't think it's on the market these days? I have found a copy but need to be rooted - but thanks for suggestion. I'll root at some point but my One S may need to be returned as currently in discussions with HTC over mobile network reception.

Hidden LED

So, just like all the previous Moto phones, this one has a hidden LED too!
Using root and any kernel tweaker with an option to adjust leds, you can switch it on. It seems to be only white as far as I could tell but it's there! (In the middle of the speaker grill on top)

Anyway to make it work with or without moto display, it would be sweet to have a notification LED on this phone

Usually to indicate the phone is charging when it gets plugged in from a completely dead state, before it even powers on the screen

I found the setting in trickster mod, but it only turns it on when charging. Will we be able to use it for notifications?
Assume that LiteFlow would work (paid version) as it does with Nexus 6. Give that a try.

It has for other Moto devices so I assume so. I'm not personally interested enough to pay for the app to find out though, sorry.

I guess one could buy it, try it real quick, and if it does not work, get a refund within the allotted time Google Play gives you.
How bright is the LED? It might not be useful because of the front flash unless it's a dim light. From the picture it seems bright though.

Not sure what the led and the front flash would have to do with each other?

The Flash is just an LED anyway, so there would just be a second LED on the front.

Wake when message received?

Where is the option to have the screen wake when a message is received? Looked throughout the phone but must have missed it.
There's an app to do this but I forgot the name. Try check the AndroidQuestions subreddit

Install Light Manager app. It allows you to customize the notification led. One of the options is to turn the screen on when a notification comes in.

Night light messes with Adaptive display

Anyone notice that the display goes bright to dim and vise versa too often when using night light? Thanks.

I noticed this too the first couple days but I think it has settled down over time. What software version are you on?

OP camera ring / notification LED

All,
Has anyone noticed the green ring and dot that shows up next to the selfie cam when it's being used, like in face unlock?
If so, do you think it'll be possible to use this as a notification LED like previous OP devices? Do we know if other devices with a hole punch have that ability?
I don't have that and I'm on the kb2007 t-mobile variant
Sent from my OnePlus 8T using XDA Labs
I have it on mine. I wish it was available for use as a notification. Until it is...if ever...I use the app listed below and it works great! You can make the sides, top, bottom, or all of them light up...and you can make it light up just around the selfie camera...looks great. The settings are a little wonky but once you figure it out it is really cool.

You talking about horizon lights? If so, you got to have AOD on for that. It'd be nice to have a built-in notification light that didn't involve wasting my battery with AOD.

Battery is so good with the AOD on though. Also, why is battery a concern with a phone that charges to 100% from 0 in 38 minutes!?

I wouldn't really call it a concern. I just don't really feel the need to have always on display on, so there's no need to spend any battery life on it regardless of how small.
Plus, I am a little concerned in the back of my mind about the long-term effects of warp charging all the time on the battery. I know they have a bunch of built-in sensors and all that jazz, but still.

T-mobile just pushed an update that added the camera ring dot thingy and the horizon light
