Hi all,
I have searched the threads as best I can so I post this...apologies for the legnth...
It is assumed that the wifi adapter in the Sensation will connect to the strongest signal to give us all the best connection experience possible, however with the proliferation of open wifi signals now on offer in the UK (Openzone and BTFON etc) it is now causing havoc when I don't have BT as an ISP.
The problem:
Currently the priority of the Sensation's wifi radio software seems to be connecting to an open signal first. The strongest is second.
Unlike an alternative Apple product, I haven't found any settings to set a preference for remembered wireless networks and to only apply the other default rules AFTER those preferences.
The Apple product also never connects to a network without the okay from the user. The HTC/Android software connects irrespective. Finally the "forget network" option doesn't work either, as it rescans, picks it up again straight away and because it's "open" connects again.
This always happens in my home as the BTFON signal from next door's BT router is actually stronger at the front of my house that my own router signal from the back. Before anyone says "get another router or position it somewhere else", I can't without spending at least £60+ for a SKY ANYTIME+ wireless receiver (which I refuse to do).
Is there another hidden option for "stock" phones? or perhaps there is a ROM?
What I want it to do is:
1) control which discovered networks I allow my phone to connect to automatically.
2) set a flag to ignore other found wifi networks, regardless of signal strength.
I know these fly in the face of the original idea of the Sensation and HTC, which was to produce a phone that connects to any network as silently and quickly as possible. HTC's "Watch" app and service launched specifically with the Sensation wouldn't have been so great without it.
Has anyone else spotted this with BTFON signals out there or fixed it?
EtA
(Vodafone stock Sensation on 2.3.4)
I've got a stock O2 (2.3.3) Sensation and the Forget Network works with BT Openzone, which is good as I've never been able to get past the "enter your phone number" registration page with BT Openzone. Mine also doesn't automatically try to connect to open networks.
If BT wasn't such a scummy internet provider they wouldn't have their home broadband routers broadcasting as BT Openzone providers.
On stock as well and yes the phone automatically detects the network again after "forgetting" it, but does not auto connect unless I go and tell it to connect again. Not to sure why you're auto connecting after forgetting the network...
You know, this sounds like FUD to me. One post and a non-existent problem no one ever reported.
Forget network works just fine. The phone wont' connect to an open network at random.
If this is real it's got to be be user error.
More than likely just another PEBKAC error...

I'm laughing my socks off at your attempts to belittle me and my issue.
So you both think you are experts do you? How?..based on the number of posts or thanks you have received?
One post of a problem no one has heard of before is how a forum starts off.
Trying to be "clever" with acronyms is childish.
I have posted my issue to HTC and rec'd a sensible response. It is now being looked into.
But then you don't care because its just operator error.
I suppose you never knew that you couldn't input British postal codes into the 'people' app until the bug was spotted. I wonder you raised that first to HtC and then it got fixed...That's right...not you guys either. Too busy belittling members.

Wish more Vodafone users had posted their experience, as I mentioned my O2 2.3.3 only auto connects to known networks and once connected to openzone I can't get past the page asking for my phone number
As an O2 customer don't you have free Cloud membership?
I used to with my iPhone...Go to McD's and whilst sitting inside connect...I'm sure it's still foc after popping in your phone number.
I thought I could use BTOpenzone as it is offered with Vodafone, but I have to pay seperately otherwise I can't get past the screen you mention either.
I do remember though that even with Cloud coverage my phone would at least download email. It was only browsing that would require passwords etc. Not sure wy this happened really though...seemed to be offering a cherry to tempt buying the cake I suppose.
BTW ...HTC have responded again saying that they are aware there are issues with Wi-Fi connectivity, specifically with baseband (radio) 10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01_M and software 1.45.161.1
They say they will issue "stability" fixes in the next release to vodafoneUK customers (and others UK carriers I presume) in the coming months...

We get The Cloud (which works perfectly) and BT Openzone (which has never worked for me).
This thread seems to shed some light on the issue

Thanks for this.
Trouble is, that I don't have this application on my phone, although I confess I did at one time but that was two restores ago although it could I suppose have residual data on the SD card. I will check.
I have had a call from HTC Customer Support today as I gave my call experience a bad customer feedback score.
The issue will now be raised further for investigation the developers and they are going to inform me as to when the next update will come out...or at least that is what the guy said...I run a Helpdesk myself at work, so I realise the situation...but we'll see.
HTC have been honest and fair to me in the past so I have good expectations.
I'll report back...
BT Openzone issue
Had this problem myself. If you are on Vodafone then go to the "My Vodafone App", Click the WiFi Finder tab, press the menu key (next to the home button) and click settings. Untick "Enable BT Openzone" and your Sensation will properly "forget" BT Openzones.
Let me know if this helps.
@jengla Thank you very much! This worked perfectly. Been driving me crazy for months
I searched everywhere and haven't seen any reports on this.
Does anyone else have serious call quality problems, only when using WIFI calling on T-Mobile? I get a terrible crackle/static fairly often.
I thought at first it was the built-in earpiece but I don't have this problem as soon as I switch off WIFI calling (and call over the 3G network).
What I also thought was interesting, is that when in WIFI calling... I can use my bluetooth headset or speakerphone and have zero interference/cracking sounds.
Let me know if you have any tricks, or if I should get this thing repaired by HTC! Thanks
WiFi Calling Crackling
I'm having the same issues with WiFi calling. I experienced a couple times and thought it might just be a bad connection, but apparently it's more than that. Hopefully the MR update (whenever that is) will address this
Yeah I don't think swapping the handset is going to help this one, hopefully an update comes out soon to address the WIFI calls. And hopefully Skype comes out with one too, because its static as all hell too.
I have the same issue. It was delayed as well. Odd.
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using Tapatalk 2
I am also having that experience with Skype calls and really bad with video calls and GTA 3. Could it be beats integration?
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using XDA
Don't think the beats affect calls since its coming through the earpiece. Guess we're going to need some software updates. T-Mobile mentioned there will be an update to address Wifi Calling battery life, maybe they'll sneak a fix in. I've reported it to T-Mo and HTC... You guys should too.
Overall I'm pretty happy with the phone, minus the pain in the butt power button! Its so flush with the case, it is difficult to press.
yea i also heard about a update rolling out looking forward to it
+1
Getting a slight / medium crackle during conversations on wifi. Crystal clear on GSM.
I get the crackle too, any word on a fix?
Just a reply to say I have the same issue on two One S phones from tmobile. I had to set wifi calling to use cell when available, as opposed to using wifi when available. The crackle was so "sharp" and pronounced that I was about to return my phones because it really sounds like a hardware issue/loose speaker parts in the earpiece! Thankfully, it works great with GSM, so it seems to be software only. And, if I need wifi calling in a pinch, I'm willing to put up with the crackles. If I had to rely on it (due to low signal in my house), it would be very frustrating.
Also on wifi calling sometimes callers could not hear me, or I them. That only happened a couple of times to me, but was a major reason I demoted wifi calling.
By the way, this phone is absolutely amazing! Fast, fast, fast, great screen, great battery, great metal shell... would love to remove Sense because it buries all the Google App integration and favors everything else, but that's a personal opinion.
Skeeboe
Yeah the feel and speed of this phone are just incredible. It just seems like there is some software kinks that need to be worked out.
Another one I've run into recently is YouTube links directing me to the mobile site rather than the native app (which is another problem with the 3 dot menu lol).
I hope they don't rush the first update and work to address some of these quirks.
Yea, I had the crackle issue on my first handset (kept having it randomly reboot) but haven't tried on the new handset since it seems they now have to enable the wifi calling feature on the account and my account is to old to enable it...or so they claim.
Wait so is the wifi calling crackle you t-mobile guys in the States get the same as the crackle I get when using Skype on my One S in the UK?
US t-mobile here. skype's crackle is much worse, impossible to deal with. wi-fi crackle is sporadic and annoying.
I'm completely confused about the whole crackle thing now. I've seen and read about your US T-mobile wifi calling which I now understand and skype crackles a heck of a lot for me. So I assumed that it was a VOIP calling problem but I used Viber to call someone over wifi last night and there was no crackle at all on a 30 minute call. Oh well I won't complain about that, would be nice if skype was working for video calls though
I am experiencing the same issue with WiFi calling too, which is a pain because I primarily make my calls over WiFi. It was so bad on a conference call today I had to switch phones. Anyone know if this is a known issue for T-Mo yet, don't want to call into care if they are already aware of it. Also, out of curiosity does anyone know if this was an issue before the most recent firmware update?
Thanks!
it's hard to say if T-Mo knows about it but they didn't acknowledge anything regarding this issue, only the battery drain related to wi-fi calling. all T-Mo US HTC One's suffer from it.
I have reported it twice to TMO, first time I was told they didn't know about it. The second time a few days later, they were aware of the issue but couldn't tell me if/when they were going to push an update out for the crackle issue. If I were u guys I would report it so they may push something quicker rather than having horrible comments about their flagship ICS device!

Just purchased an HTC One S today.
I talked with T-mobile earlier today and showed them the link to the t-mobile support forum thread created for the Wifi calling quality issues (crackling/delay) on the HTC One S.
They told me that they are aware of the problem and it's a known issue. I didn't press them for a timetable to fix it or anything.
Everyone who's experiencing wifi calling issues should at least take a moment to call in to tech support or chat with a t-mobile tech rep.
We need to make sure they address this quickly. I know a lot of people rely on wifi calling on t-mobile in spotty/bad signal areas. I sure do.
I got my edge the day it came out and I've been having this problem where my apps don't sync or update over Sprints network. Apps like Bleacher Report, Facebook, Gmail, etc. I receive kiks just fine while the the phone is idle on 4G but nothing else syncs. After I got home from work today, my WiFi connected and all these emails and notifications popped up and they had a previous timestamp. My background data restriction is off and for every app too. I did the 78268 or whatever and still nothing. My network was set to automatic and I just switched it to LTE/CDMA to see if it works. Has this happened to any of you guys??

I think there is def something going on i experience sorta the same stuff, sometimes i can reboot the phone and then all my emails and stuff come in. 2 weeks ago with the m7 i would wake up and usually have about 10 emails and notifications. Not anymore for some reason its like it stops the data connection.
I've got the same issue. I have no idea what is going on. I want to say it's a sprint issue but I really think Its a Samsung issue with the radios. I have moved my preferred network to home and disabled Roaming. I am hoping this helps. I think he has to do with how Spark passes off to LTE and 3G.

Yeah I also can't use data while in the middle of a call. I'm going to take it to Sprint and see if its a SIM issue or their network. Since so many people are having this problem, its most likely Sprint unless Samsung made a bunch of defective devices lol

You can't use data during a call on any Spark device to my knowledge, because those devices only have the one radio. It can't do LTE while also doing 1X (SVLTE). Whenever VoLTE becomes widespread this won't be a problem.
Yea you can't use data and voice at the same time. It's always been this way. I'm just pissed I'm missing emails and notifications. I switched my network preferences to see if that helps.
found a workaround for this
Having the same problem here and this is my second one with the problem (exchanged the first one because of the screen rotation issue).
I installed Hotspot Shield from the play store and now my notifications from all apps are coming in in a timely manner. It makes your battery drain faster though. Hopefully Sprint will push an update to fix this soon. In the meantime this works, at least for me.

Help! Our "unlocked" Sprint Galaxy 7's won't do wifi calling with our new provider!
We have 2 Sprint Galaxy S7's, GSM-930P. Never set up wifi calling on sprint but had an icon for it and they were always asking me to set it up. Switched to Mint mobile which works on Tmobile's network. When on wifi at home or work can't send or receive MMS, pictures, but turn wifi off and the pictures go or download. Never had this problem before. Have wifi turned on through our provider and there is a greyed out wifi callng icon at the top of screens next to signal strength and wifi icon.
They say I have to turn it on in our phones for it to work properly but that setting isn't in any of our menus. I've found other threads talking about it being gone on sprint phones but the phone is capable of wifi calling from what I've found. I found one post somewhere about someone "flashing" their phone with the tmobile software or something and it working. On Mint mobile's site they have a list of compatible phones and our IMEI isn't listed as being compatible? It's so confusing and frustrating. I know these phones are capable of wifi calling and think that it would make our phones work better if we changed some things up. I'm trying to figure all of this out but not sure how to do it or who to listen to online. I would appreciate any help you could offer. Thank you!
Anyone know IF WiFi calling can be enabled on the Verizon network? I know it's enabled through my carrier (coming from Pixel 3 XL)
I am very interested in this as well. Have zero cell coverage at my job, but amazing wifi coverage.
That and a way to do wifi texting, but I think I may have to dig around for that one.

i think WiFi texting is tied to WiFi calling they really handicapped the device on Verizon's network. All it can do is essentially make and receive calls...
I know the T-Mobile version can on T-Mobile, but it's there anything that keeps the unlocked version from doing it on T-Mobile? I may switch if that's the case.
I love this phone so much I may have to switch to T-Mobile.

I did figure out a way to 'make' the option appear using a newer verizon of the Oneplus Logkit apk...(dial *#800#, pick Oneplus Logkit>Function Switch> VoWifi Switch). But after enabling it, it doesn't seem to work yet, and it somehow seems to break MMS if it's on. Not sure if they are actually working on it or not, but I wish someone could see if they could get it working. I think I got the APK from here, but I can't remember from where, so whoever you are, I'm sorry for not crediting you. If someone wants to mess around with it...by all means.

Install the Verizon Messages (Message+) and you should be able to do wifi texting. I tried the log kit as well and it doesn't seem like VOWifi is working but it is hard to tell. I can make Wifi calls using Google Voice and that number but only if not in Airplane mode. Seems to be a bug as it says to turn off airplane. Voice then proceeds to make a wifi call. Maybe the same effect with regular VOWifi where it would use wifi if there is no cell signal.

I actually switched to t-mobile, and voice over wifi, wifi texting and all that showed up and work great. Message+ does not allow wifi texting on Verizon on this phone, tier 2 support said development phones (that's what the OP7 is certified under) are not eligible to use advanced features on the network, including, voice over wifi, video calling and text over wifi using Verizon messages.
I got text over WiFi to work with Verizon messages + and use Google Hangouts over WiFi for the calls. Decent enough work around.

It does not. Used my OnePlus 7 Pro for a couple of days and no WiFi calling.
