Issue on taken photos. - Nokia 3 Questions & Answers

I bought a new Nokia 3 from the agent in Sri Lanka. There is a problem with the taken photos, (can clearly observe in a dark environment, without flash). The photos have white dots in a pattern. Both in front and rear cameras. When you zoom in and out the dots too get zoom in and out. I got a new phone for the warranty and that phone too has the same issue. Anyone please advice.

Hello Nikola, I've claimed the warranty for both of Nokia 3 s. Unfortunately I'm unable to send a picture of that. Even the shop people have checked for the issue for other couple of phones before issuing those to the customers and they've found the same. It's more like the night sky without the moon. Stars like dots. And when the camera is in a darker environment the display displays some lines near to the borders (feels like struggling). Anyway I went for a Nokia 6 and it is perfectly fine. I wish Nokia had used Carl Zeiss lenses. Besides all the issues I Love Nokia.

Can you post a picture of that.
Thanks

This sounds like A LOT of noise in the camera. Dust, may be?

Greg spot when taking picture

EDIT: Sorry, title should be grey* spot
Hey guys, so I just noticed when I take a picture using the new camera or Instagram there's a grey spot in one corner. I tried wiping the lens to see if was dirty and nothing changes. Its actually darker on Instagram. I tried rebooting and nothing happened. Interestingly enough, it seems to disappear during video recording. Here's a sample when taking the picture. Its in the top left corner. I noticed this today and it had not occurred before today. I had my phone since launch. All camera options have the spot except video recording. anyone have ideas?
Also, I just checked snapchat and that has no grey spot.

It could be an issue with the sensor (dirt / damage).
Video recording uses a much lower resolution. A camera pic is 8 mpix. Video records at 1080 which is about 2 mpix... So this will only use a small (central) section of the sensor. . Which marries up with the fact the spot is in the edge.
You could try reducing photo resolution too to 1.9 mpix . I bet the spot is missing again
Also given its location, I would suspect any app that shoots 16:9 photos at almost any resolution would cut the spot out as it looks to be where the image sensor would "crop" to get a 6 mpx widescreen photo

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, the spot is still there at 1.9 mp. I can try still wiping it down with a microfiber. Do you have any suggestions if it is indeed dirt? Snapchat does take fairly low res pics so it could still be that.
Odd.
If it is dirt, I've no recommendations. Sorry

And to conclude what rootSU said, if it is a spec of dust or damage, then your only option is getting it repaired or to RMA it. Software won't fix this issue.
Edit: damn you guys are fast

Maybe I'm wrong about 1.9 being central like video :/ I jus always assumed it would be.

Thanks guys. I'm just not sure how it would be dust on the sensor? How would it get in there since I have had no problems with it before.
It just can. All of this has happened before and all of this will happen again

I called up Google and was told that I should wait out a few updates to see if the issue is software related and if not I can RMA. I think I'll wait a few days lol
Oh and also, he told me that a couple of updates are coming out real soon. I asked him about 4.4.3 since I was already talking to him and he said he didn't hear much but it should be out really soon. Fairly vague, but I thought it was interesting he said a couple of updates. In either case, I don't think its a software issue since multiple apps have the spot.
Do you guys know anything that I can try though to rule out it being a software issue?

A thorough wipe and a bunch of pictures with different resolution settings. But honestly I think RMA is your best bet. I've read a few threads in the past about the same issue and they all got it RMAd.

I would have already told him I wanted an RMA. The only thing that im curious about is why it doesn't show up in video recording/snapchat. I know rootSU said that it was because of the difference in resolution, but I checked the resolution of snapchat and it was 1080p. Also, when I switched to 1.9 pixel image it was still there and I feel like that's already a very small resolution.

Your testing indicates that pictures taken with different resolutions still use the whole sensory field of view and that rootSU could have been mistaken.
Does Snapshat clip the pictures i.e. into a certain shape (Instagram does squares for example)? If it does that would explain why you can't see the grey spot. If it doesn't, then I really don't know.

Well instagram does clip pictures, and the spot does appear on instagram. It actually looks more prominent for some reason. or I could just be seeing things. I don't think snapchat clips. both video on instagram and and regular camera don't have the spot.

Same problem here as well with my new Nexus 5.Very annoying !! I noticed a dust spot in all my photos that seemed to develop in the last week.
I called Google's support line with the same problem. They are sending a replacement device within 48 hours. Very impressed.
But, I'm doubtful about LG's clean room for manufacturing.

Just curious what does Google or LG do when you rma or claim warrenty for this problem

I still stand by my theory. Actually I've just discovered the new camera no longer does 16:9. The old camera did 2mpix widescreen (16:9) so I assumed that the 1.9 mpix was the same which would cut the right and left edges off the sensor like the video does. Obviously because it's using 4:3 unlike video, it didn't prove my point and looked to disprove it but actually it doesn't.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
So, I'm not sure if this new finding supports your theory. But I went into the camera app info and was able to uninstall the update to bring back to the old camera. In the view finder the spot was gone but it still appeared in pictures. For the video though, it doesn't even appear when watching the recording. So I guess it cuts it off? Regardless I'm just going to factory reset and if its still there (which I think you're right and it will be) I'm calling back and asking for RMA.

Camera issues

Hey guys,
My wife and I have the same phone.
I've noticed something odd since getting my.s7 (exynos) . The white in the photos I take often have a yellow tint whereas the photos my wife tales of the same thing are more natural and have no yellow. I've tried messing.with the camera setting and brightness slide from in the app, And it helps a bit. However, I feel that my.wifes phone tales better photos. Has anyone else had a similar issue with the camera?
I tried uploading some photos but cannot do so from I the app.
More details please. ROM, kernel, etc? Also this is a wrong place to create this thread

Well I was rooted on nougat and was using superstock, superman rom, helios (I think that's the name of the rom) and the issue persisted. I went back to stock mm . Issue was there too. Went back to stock nougat and kernel and issue is there sometimes. It almost seems like my camera is over sensitive to light but not sure .
I have images but again cannot upload via the app .
Here's an example
The chairs are an egg white colour but in some of the photos they come off as being yellow in the same light. I really don't get it .
Especially here
Ps-where do I put the thread?

if the chairs are white and show up yellow.....how come your shoes aren't showing yellow?
can't possibly be your camera.

Not sure man. tested it again last night against my wife's camera and she noticed it too. Its only specific things under lowlight. We can reproduce it on hers if the ccamera trieds to focus on an object in the foreground , then the background becomes yellowish, but mine does it alone. Ive messed about in rpo mode and it seems to go away, but I dont wanna have to manually set the camera preferences everytime I take a photo.
Final update. Took it to my retailer and they wanted to send it in for hardware check. Sold the phone instead and went back to Nexus 5x .

Weird Lens Flare

I just got my oneplus 6 and noticed strong lens glare at night when directing to spot source light.
lens flare is hard to be avoided but this seems really evident on my oneplus 6, compared with other smartphone cameras I tried.
Have you guys experienced same or this unit is sort of defected?
would be nice if you showed any photo's of the flares but i didn't see any in my photo's yet.
This is the very first time I saw such strong lens flare. I can clear see the shape of bulb from the flare. I tried other phones, and nowhere near this.
Yep. It's on mine as well. I also noticed it was mentioned in a review I watched on YouTube a while back.

I talked to OP support and they say this is normal. Guess we have to bear with this.
But this lens flare is just much stronger than other phones I used.
weird i sometimes have the same issue , especially in night photos where there is a lot of close street lights.

Same as the original Pixel but Google tried to fix that with a FW update which worked quite well. It's a hardware fault.

Yup noted the massive flare also. Kinda cool effect to have, but sometimes not.
I took same pictures using iPhone X under several conditions and the lens flare is comparable. I think I can bear with now...
I have same problem with flares and after so many smartphones It's first time I see something like this. I was scared that is something wrong with lens but It looks like It is normal.
However It is very annoying and I am very close to giveaway this beautiful phone just because of this.
I just noticed that is happening on night pictures, specially with traffic lights. Few examples down there...
When I turn phone at different angle, like more open to sky, It disappears.
Hi is your issue resolved

What about this?
That's terrible

Dust in camera

Is there anyone who has dust in the back camera issue?
It seems this phone has much higher possibilities having this issue. Most of the middle range phones rarely have this issue(but sometimes it does happen)
I was thinking about buying this phone, but there are tons of complaint on Huawei club forum and Baidu tieba about the dust in camera.
Huawei hasn't admitted the issue officially yet. Huawei exchanges the problematic phones with new ones, but the new one still has this problem after days of normal use.

No issue with mine
I've just watched a video from VoloKin Project claiming he has dust underneath the camera lens. https://youtu.be/AwOHKM0wfiU
I was planning to upgrade from the Note 8 but I'm not sure after watching that video. Has anybody else got that issue?

I have spoken to wonda mobile regarding this issue as mine does have some dust there and they spoke with Huawei who said it won't effect the camera . Strange thing is that it does not effect pictures etc .

I've adressed the bug on Lenovo's Motorola one vision forum hoping for a solution/fix.

I had to try it myself after seeing those images from @badadam
I experienced the same thing, and you can even see the purple tint in the view finder without taking an actual photo so it can't be because of some post processing on images.. But it's only concentrated to the middle for some reason.
I got this answer from a support guy on the Lenovo one vision foum:
This looks like a limitation of the hardware under very specific conditions. I suspect attempts to tune it out were determined to cause other side effects, but we will report it.
I´ve now asked if my device has to be returned/swapped if it is a hardware issue or if a future update can fix the problem.
I recieved the following answer to the above question from Lenovo:
Yes, that's what I mean. My personal recommendation would be to use the Night Vision feature, as previously suggested. Flash always leaves some kind of visual variation. Replacing it with a new motorola one vision won't make a difference.
I then took the attached photo (taken with night vision, indoors, not in low light) and sent it as reply asking if it is a general problem with the one vision or I and others that have experienced the problem have faulty devices.
I am tempted to returning/swapping the device in the hope of the latter.
Otherwise I will probably return the device to buy another phone. Which would be sad as I am otherwise very satisfied with the one vision. But I can't live with a phone that can't take perfect indoors photos.
That's only last update
This is before update.
Only SW issue
