Is there still interest in this phone? - T-Mobile LG V10 General

Andorid is one of my hobbies, but I only have so much time to spend (isn't that always the case).
I bought this phone because I had to ship my V20 back to LG because I was a dumb a** testing a 9008 de-brick method and screwed up royally.
Anyway, I have the V10 now, so I might as well show it some love -- IF there is interest.
Please post your thoughts / ideas on what you would like to see for this phone.
Here is what I am going to release no matter what:
* An update.zip for MM to Nougat that is pre-rooted, and debloated.
* A ROM that people that are already on Nougat, will be able to flash clean that is pre-rooted and debloated.
Here are some ideas for things that I can do if there is interest:
* Port LineageOS
* Port AOKP
* Custom kernels with cool bells and whistles (this is another one that I may do no matter what).
Here are the things that I can't do:
* Get Xposed working on Nougat. The dude that wrote the framework is having problems, so that is not something I am going to waste my time on. See this article for details.
* Find an exploit to root Nougat if you took the update OTA, or flashed the KDZ, or used LG Bridge, etc...etc...
Feel free to post away with thoughts and ideas.

Look forward to seeing a debloated and rooted Nougat Rom plus the possibility of Lineage on this V10 H901. Hope others will encourage you also.

I still have mine and would really appreciate a clean lineage 7.1.2 port with Xposed installed
https://github.com/abforce/xposed_art_n/blob/master/README.md
Most likely means losing the DAC, and quality camera, of course.
At bare minimum a flashable debloated with optimaztion would be awesome. Most people have left LG devices though, due to their brick, reboot, more strict root/recovery issues.

I like the phone which is why im trying to get it to work.this is my second v10 but ive taken some anti bootloop measures this time.phone works fine just network locked and cant find any way to unlock it lol.

I really like this phone and any addition is awesome. I appreciate your earlier posts and cannot thank you enough for your guide. I'm on mm dirtycow root and have not flashed 7.0 yet because I use xposed don't know yet if the (sp)Magisk frameworks will do what I'm doing with xposed. But I do want to flash 7.0 soon so thanks.

I am very interested

Yes!!! Would porting an updated TWRP also be a project you could do haha?

Yes to this
* Find an exploit to root Nougat if you took the update OTA, or flashed the KDZ, or used LG Bridge, etc...etc...
Me being an impatient dumba**, went with the LG Bridge way and didn't think about root. SMH... shame...shame....shame

Just a heads up, it's Only for 7.1.2 rooms, for now

root & custom recovery for nougat 7.0 . mine is h901 sticker but its f600l board & ( f600l firmware now )

Better people than me are working on trying to root Nougat on other devices and not having any luck. Well ... Nougat that has had dirtycow patched....
The easier (and I am going to try and crack this) way is to figure out why you guys can't roll back to MM. The anti-rollback version hasn't changed, so it is just a matter of figuring out why the flash won't complete.

As for the interest in this phone... v10 is still my daily driver. So I am very interested!
Now with Nougat in there, it feels like a new phone, and def. not ditching anytime soon. Got some months left on my installment plan anyway xD haha.
You're doing gods work o7

eigokyoukan,
On Nougat V10 can you check google map settings-->Navigation settings and see if the "Play voice over bluetooth" option is missing?
From what i have seen 7.0 removes this and you can no longer play directions over the phone if bluetooth is connected.
thanks

A LineageOS port would be amazing!

someone here https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v10/help/flashed-h901-h960-comrade-to-help-t3429025 managed to change hex values of kdz and flash a h901 onto a h960 with lgup.i myself tried this but it didnt work.either says its not the right file for the device or kdz file is invalid if i change all the hex values. this user also had the same problem but he fixed it, not sure how since the edited file he posted was deleted and he is not active anymore.I could have compared it. in lgup it passes the anti-rollback but gets stuck at modem.also seems you can only run upgrade when even trying to downgrade.

I'm still very much interested in this phone! I would love to see an AOKP type vanilla Android type of ROM. Even if it's not super customizable, it should just be vanilla Android with root.

I'm definitely interested.
And if it's possible, I pretty much want to know how to revert back my v10 from F600L nougat to Tmo again (it was Tmo).
Also in case someone is already updating on lg bridge or flash kdz, does he need to downgrade again to use your release?
Thank you

Definitely interested in anything you are willing to develop. Was rooted on LP lost it due to a freeze issue, then upgraded to MM and was never able to re-root. Now on Nougat and would love to be rooted again and have access to any and all of the above you listed!

Need a little guidance

Hey everyone. I was wondering if some here with a HTC One can point me in the right direction. I am looking to finally take the plunge and permanently root, flash a custom recovery, backup my stock, and install a new custom rom on my Verizon M8.
This is my first HTC device playing with, I have always had Motorola stuff and am pretty familiar with the process on those, but this HTC stuff is still a little blurry. S-on/off, CID, MID, RUUs????
I have been reading these forums for quite a bit and still a little unsure about what the steps would have to be. I am currently on the latest stock VZW temp rooted with the new weeksauce basically just to have tethering via a 3rd party app (Wifi tether router). I actually really, really like the stock Sense 6.0 UI and this phone is pretty much perfect all around.
What I want to do is, permanently root, install TWRP as that's what i've used on Moto and my Sammy Tab, backup my stock system so I can go back, and then install a custom ROM. Can TWRP on this do more than one ROM slot and run dual roms? What if everything gets jacked up and I have to go back to complete out of the box stock? How is that done with HTC? I think with Moto it was like an .FXZ file or something like that and you boot the phone into download mode and just flash that file from the computer and you're back to 100% stock. Same with Samsung using ODIN.
I'm also not sure what ROM I want to try, so I am open to suggestions there too. I would like to maybe try a pretty clean Lollipop ROM with good battery life and very stable. Would that be the GPE?
Thanks for reading and for any help.

First you need s-off/unlocked boot loader to perma root..also there is multi ROM support for this device. An if you want to return to pure stock cause something got messed up then you download the ruu an use fast boot via pc to flash your ruu.zip it will wipe your whole phone an return you to out of the box. if your looking for a sense Lollipop from. Santod has a nice ROM an you can also check out the ROM by andybones is also runs very nice an has themes an mod support. If you like GPE then there is one of those also for our device.
Thanks for the info. So in my reading up on doing this, is the "firewater" method of achieving S-off and root no longer working on this phone with 4.4.4? And also, as I understand it, the Sunshine method of achieving the two may or may not work on 4.4.4 either, kind of a 50/50 shot??? So I guess at this time it might just be worth it to wait until either the new sunshine is released or Verizon pushed the 5.0 update out and see what that is like.

Firewater is dead....sunshine might work you can download the app for free an run it to see if it will work with your device is free too. Then if you want to run sunshine that's when you pay the 25...so I would advice against taking anymore ota till you r able to s-off.

Bootloader Unlock and 6.0 Flashing Progress.

Iv started this thread to get talking about unlocking the bootloader and a proven flashing method for 6.0. @LGMONO and @ZVNexus are working on root for a 6.0 tot, if it its authenticated. But, we still need a method for unlocking the bootloader, aswell as a stable way to flash the tot so we can back up and gain root. So for these cases, anyone have a clue where we are at with them?
UPDATE: 3-27-17
So no way for root has been found yet, but its not over. Android 7.0 Nougat has been confirmed for the LGV10 and we are supposed to have it by the end of this month so realistically, I say sometime next month. Now hopefully they will ease up on the restrictions in 7.0. But i have found something interesting with 6.0 on the v10. I tried to install Stump.apk (a root-kit app) and android warned me that the app contains code that tried to alter android or something like that. Anyways, so my guess that a new way might be possible to gain root access. If you can force an app to change its code after being installed, that might work... If it can even work like that. They have over hauled the security on the v10, so atleast your stuff is relatively safe if you do your part.
For now, im gonna start talking to people to see if maybe lg or at&t would consider removing their block once a phone has gone out of warranty. Im on lease for mine so I can kinda understand why they dont want it modified, but if i pay it off or out right, i should have the right to do as i wish for it, so im gonna try to talk with them about that.
UPDATE:
After looking around, some people found success of downgrading to 5.0 or 5.1 with LGUP on the g4. Now it didnt say it was carrier specific, but, if its not, then im beginning to wonder where the problem of just flashing a tot really is on the v10.

We are pretty close. This is pretty weird though, when I open boot.img on the Marshmallow TOT, it refuses to open the archive, and fails. The boot.img on the 5.1.1 TOT does not have this problem however and opens just fine. This is strange and it is risky to flash not knowing if it might work. If only I had extra phones to test this lol

It might be as simple as just a broken boot.img. im not 100%, but i dont think there is any signitures of authenticity in the boot.img, so you might could use a different one. I have a copy of the 6.0 TOT. Later ill go try to unpack the boot.img and see what i can find.

We would have to use the boot.img from a 6.0 AT&T LG V10 Though, because of Anti-TOT Rollback. Changing the boot.img with one from 5.1..1 would screw that up I think.
I'll pay for mm root, please keep the effort alive. This is the best phone with a removable battery - so best phone I can own - and since I'm stuck with it... I'll pay to improve it, as we all should.

Its not that the phone is dead, its just that the majority of the people who bought this phone did not buy it to root or anything. They bought it because of the camera. Anyone else would have bought a LG G4, G5, or a Samsung Note. All of those are VERY good options if you want to root.

I got it because of the removable battery and micro SD support... and yeah the camera too, but at the time it had root, so I wasn't really too worried about it. Guess I'm SOL now.

I mean, its not that bad. Right now without root you can still customize your phone to a extent. You can use a program to disable (NOT REMOVE) any programs you want, so all AT&T bloat doesn't show on my app drawer anymore, same with any LG apps. A nice wallpaper, Nova, a icon pack, and it looks pretty fine and dandy! Right now I have about 4 months left and then I can get a new phone. Not too bad. Was thinking about the new Nexus lineup.

Yeah I still have some time, but I'm going to just save to pay for the new "Nexus" out-right (I think you have to anyways). This is really too bad. I've never owned a phone that was so locked down that we can't unlock the bootloader, root or anything. It's maddening. I should have done better research; if I had, I would have found that the "root" we had for 5.1.1 was only temporary and there was no unlocked bootloader.
Hey all! Good news! A 9-year-old bug called the "Dirty Cow" exploit still exists in the Linux/Android kernel can easily grant root on any Android phone!!! See the video below.
http://www.xda-developers.com/9-year...on-of-android/
So there's another bug to exploit for root and even possibly unlocking the bootloader! The bug has been fixed recently in Linux but hasn't been rolled into Android yet. If anyone can get this working on my AT&T LG V10 (running Marshmallow) I'll give a reward of $50! Plus you'll be my hero! Now get crackin!

What is the latest Root Method for SM-P900 us version?

Looking through many post, all of them seem rather old, Im finally ready to root my tablet, Im tired of all of the lag I get and it seems as Samsung has let the 12.2 pro die.
Im running 5.02
Build: LRX22G.P900UEU1COL1
Kernel: 3.4.39-5574008
Knox: 2.3
I found this post by dwl99 http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-pro-12/general/success-rooting-sm-p900-knox-0x0-t3377416
It seem only one person has tried it
Thanks for any input you may have
I'm not sure if you found your answer, but if you're willing to trip KNOX, I was able to root my p900 US version on 5.0.2 by using the method in the post found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-pro-12/general/guide-install-official-lollipop-p900-t3154362
Thanks
I will check it out, I dont care about Knox at this point since Samsung has let this tablet die

Yep. My faith in Samsung hardware is hit or miss, but my faith in them having too many models for them to keep up with is starting to wane.
Anyways, I had no problem getting TWRP on it, and flashing SU. Just follow the post and if it doesn't show up on your computer, try other USB ports. For some reason these samsungs are picky. I had to try three USB ports to get it to register in Odin. After that it was no problem. I verified it with JRummy's tool, and have run other root apps, and it took just fine.
I wasn't able to get xposed working, but that might be an issue with the stock ROM. No big deal though. Backups, moving apps to SD, and such, are all capable with root and TWRP, though it would have been more tidy to have the SD card as an extension of the on-board, I can live without it.
If you need my stock ROM build info it's P900UEU1COI1_P900XAR1COI1 (cellular south). There are two US ones I see available for 5.0.2, and have no idea what the difference is, but that one works fine for me. So if you have to Odin first, or after, that one seemed to go well for my US P900. Use that info at your discretion, because I can't see your current build info.
Thanks for the info
The tablet seem very laggy when on the net lately, Im tired of it

Same build here.
Follow the directions carefully (you likely don't need to do the first area as you're already up to date), and you should be all set. Just remember to backup everything important first. Since you already have your info/apps in place, and aren't changing ROMS's, there isn't much to it. Don't forget to do a backup using TWRP after you have everything up and running. You'll want to download busybox from the app store, after you're rooted.
Careful if you decide to go with a custom ROM after. I didn't have much luck with cyanogen mod 13, because it knocked out a lot of my Spen needs, and there are a fair number of reports of random reboots on the one I tried. Hopefully that will change and I can update to 6.0.1 when/if it does.
For you, there shouldn't be a need to wipe data or factory reset, but if the lag continues you may want to wipe your cache's once you have your nandroid backup.
PM me if you run into any issues, or better yet, with any questions you're unsure about, before an issue happens
Will Do Blade, :good:
Thanks

Hello. I can't find the files for my build number. Can i use this one instead? ( Yes , I am noob.)

Explanation: LG V10: Reasons why I vanished:

Some time ago, in the middle of the night I woke up to see my V10 bootlooping, and it was next to almost stock. and I never mess with my v10 cause my htc10 is my daily Driver....
after talking to T-Mobile and and then LG, I got LG to pay for everything including shipping. because my device was babied to death, it was like mint condition, so instead of making me wait for a new board
and so on, They sent me a whole new V10, that was manufactured only a few months prior, which came with updated everything.. So to make a long story short. I have no ROOT.. and no way to get ROOT..
I have Android N on my device...........
Now if I ever figure out how to get root again, I will then pick up where I left off on this device.................
I am one of the owners of the new Project that I personally started some time ago, called PureFusionOS..... we are on 5 devices. officially on HTC10 and OP3 and OP5................
and some how a mediatek device which I still cant figure out how he did that........
anyhow.. With my new found knowledge of ROMs and so on, I am sure of I ever get this device rooted again, I can get a custom rom working on this device with Camera working.........
my knowlege with camera has increased much do to the fact of the issues I went through on the HTC10 to get 4k recording working.........
But will any of this truely happen, as I said, it all depends on if I get ROOT again on this device........... I am running 100% stock Android N ....................
But I wanted to let you know what happen to me.. and why I havent been able to do anything.........................
I do have some ideas on getting root, but I highly doubt they will work.. What I prob need is a rooted TOT file with latest ROM.........

It is bnot possible to downgrade from Nougat to MM on rhe H901, i've tried and it does'nt work. The bootloader can be unlocked but that is as far as it goes at the moment. As stated by Eliminator there is no root yet for this phone.

Hi i'm new to the V10 h901 game, i have been reading a lot lately this forum ,can you explain more the situation? what Eliminator is saying means no twrp of the ones posted here will work for the H901 in nougat?, mine came with Mashmallow but i flashed Nougat with lg bridge before reading, i guess im stuck now? i unlocked the bootloader today hoping to flash one of those recoveries but "fastboot boot twrp.img" didnt work so i didnt flashed it hoping to get more information on the subject here.
So I was on a rooted MM Rom, maybe even yours, and used this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3638750 to update to N and kept root. Are there any files I could pull from mine that would help?

Not a single thing.. Problem is my device came back with N already on it.. so there is no way to ROOT it at this time.. and its not really high on my list to worry about it.
if I dont root it, no big deal......
No root for N so far. I soft bricked my device, and the only way to get it back was with LG Bridge, and now I'm stuck with stock N firmware. So, we need to hope and wait for someone clever than us to find a way to root V10 with stock N.
If it helps, we can trade devices. Mine is on the latest, rooted and I am going to sell mine. Not much extra value in selling a rooted device. So pm me and we can cross ship. Your device for mine. I'll sell yours on swappa....and you have a rooted device to Dev for the community moving forward. It would be awesome if you could put your new OS on the V10

I would be down for a swap. Yes, please!
I got the terrible Green Screen Of Death. My replacement came Nougat out of the box. Sadness.
What do you recommend? Should I make a post here? In General thread? At Swappa? Ebay?
Well this seemed really promising and then ironically the person I suspected would drop either a LineageOS build (which I would love, just plain old LineageOS with no major changes or frills for the V10, second screen I don't even give a damn about really, a kernel with a lot of governor support/options would be great too, and here's a Nougat from the factory device he can't even work with, great.
And with nobody really giving a damn about the V10 overall we are probably just going to be stuck at this point from now on, sadly.
Maybe we'll get a small miracle at some point, I'll keep my fingers crossed. Thank you, Eliminater74, for at least letting the community know you're still around and might still be able to provide some magic if things work out.
Try modified LG up as a path to downgrade.... I'm on nougat flashed with TWRP so I never went through the steps to modify LG up. I really think it can work to get back down to 6.0 use dirtycow get TWRP then install the nougat update zip..... I know another person interested in the root of the 7.0 locked firmware going back to 6 had pointed in this direction.....

Question regarding rooting latest Nougat build number

Can I still root the latest build number NRD90M.N920TUVU4EQG3 for the T-Mobile Note 5?
My overall goal in rooting is to revert back to MM. Honestly I hate Nougat and the battery life has dropped significantly so I'd like to flash a MM ROM. I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section or has been asked before. Just looking for some help. The research I did only showed how to root Nougat but didn't specify the particular build number. I forgot to ask also if Odin is the ONLY method I have to root? I've run into issues before with Odin. Just curious if there's another method for rooting.

You don't have to root to revert. What I did was put the phone into download mode and flashed the MM Rom from QC2, I believe, or whatever the version was from samfirm which is deprecated now. Just remember to have the OEM unlock enabled and USB debugging enabled in developer. You should be able to then use Odin to revert. If it doesn't work then you can try and root the phone using the root QE1 method from the posts in the T-Mobile note 5 thread and follow the guide. I can't say for certain if you can downgrade straight from an unrooted 7.0 rom to an earlier 6.0.1 MM rom in Odin. But what I do know is this. I came from the Khongloi v11 rom and decide to do something stupid.
"After unwittingly turning off OEM unlock and USB debugging and rebooting phone. I lost all my data. Stupid me. I got so used to quick rebooting and all of sudden decided to do a hard reboot, *sigh. Oh well, you live you learn. Just remember if you do root. Leave those options on. Never, ever, ever, ever disable OEM unlock. EVER."
Anyways, try downgrading in Odin 3.10.7 or if you have trouble with any newer Odin versions. If you have trouble with the newer versions, use an older version. If you can't downgrade directly from that rom, might have to try another way.
Thanks for the reply and advice! But just making sure though for general root purposes: I'm able to root the latest build number?
Try and see. I'm actually on the same firmware and haven't tried yet. I'm still considering if I should root again. I miss using game guardian, especially for LDoE: Survival.
I'd do it but I'm nervous I'm gonna mess up my phone. I was hoping someone will chime in and let me know it's good to go lol
No worries. You can't, because Odin will give you an error message if the firmware doesn't allow it. Kinda how it was in previous revisions. I've tried on purpose to brick my device. The only real way to brick a device is to do something super, super stupid. Try, the only thing that can result is you get an error in Odin and it fails.
The reason I say this is because I tried to use Odin to flash Nougat onto my Verizon S7 and I honestly don't know what the hell I did but it continually bootlooped to the point where I couldn't get it in recovery or anything. It was messed up. Had to send it in for another S7 which I sold and got a Note 5 lol. Needless to say I'm a bit nervous to use Odin.

Honestly, bootloops can be fixed. Either thru the recovery or by download mode. It must have been something else you flashed. But if you decide to try and root and Odin doesn't take, then you haven't done anything to jeopardize your phone.
