[APP] Instant Upload

This app is to be used to conveniently upload files to your FTP or SFTP server.
The app has a queuing functionality which can be enabled under settings.
Help text (from app):
Instant Up is used to quickly upload any type of file to your server.
FTP settings must be configured before use. To configure, choose Settings in the options menu.
Here is an example, to help you configure.
If you specify file type zip and path myZipFolder, all zip files will be uploaded to myZipFolder.
If you want all file types to be uploaded to the same server directory, specify * in the file type column. This rule will be used for all files not matching any of the other rules.
If no rule exists for the current file type you will be forwarded to an FTP browser to let you select a destination folder.
Start using Instant Up now by, for instance, downloading a file in the web browser and clicking on it in the Downloads section of the browser.
If queueing is enabled in settings, files will not be uploaded instantly, instead you are able to queue up all files that you need to upload. If all files in queue are matching some rule defined, the files will be uploaded to the correct folders depending on the rules. If some file does not match any rule, you will be asked for an upload folder and (NOTE) ALL files in queue will be uploaded to that folder.

How would you like that to work?

Like in AndFTP or Connectbot. The AndFTP method is a lot simpler than the Connectbot method. I would say that the simpler method is enough:
The user generates a public/private key pair with ssh-keygen or dropbearkey on his server. Then he appends the public key to his ~/.ssh/authorized_keys and copies the private key to the phone. The sftp client can now import that private key and use it.
Probably it would be easier if you would specify a fixed directory and filename where the user should store his private key, e.g. /sdcard/InstantUpload/id_dsa (or id_rsa). If there is a file with that filename, Instant Upload can import the key and store it internally, and then delete the file. That way you don't need a file selection dialog and the user doesn't need to hunt for the file with that dialog.

Good and thorough work, man. But for what reason? Most of Android file explorers already can interact with FTP.

The only reason why I started to build this app was that I wanted something that in the fastest way possible let me download any file from the browser and directly upload it to an SFTP server.
I have searched for apps that supported this, but none of them could do this.
With the file explorers you have to do something like the following:
Download file from browser
Close browser
Open File Explorer
Browse to the folder containing the file
Find the file in the folder
Long click the file
Select upload action
Select destination folder
With this app only three steps are required:
Download file from browser
Click on file
Select application (Instant Upload)

New version out. The free version now supports SFTP as well.

Since the market link leads here I assume you did the Spotify Controller app.
I just installed the server on Win7 x64 and...there is a LOT wrong with it.
I actually package software for a living, unless you protest I will probably try to put together a PROPER package for the current version of the server software.
Honestly, using a zip file means everything gets tagged as a download from the internet, which means every batch files prompts (or more usually, just flat out fails when called from a batch files). Using a vbscript to create shortcuts is ok, but the shorcut didn't have the working directory set. It points to the controller.bat in the main directory, which calls controller.bat in the server subdirectory, which is redundant and asking for trouble. The batch files it calls will almost never work on Win7 (even 32 bit) and surprised it works in XP, because it calls %~dp0java but the JRE by default doesn't add itself to the PATH variable so the server fails to start 100% of the time (this can be fixed by finding the path to java.exe and setting the shortcut to call java.exe and then the command line (don't forget to set the working directory to the /server folder or it will vomit). So both those batch files are unnecessary and break easily.
I had to go through the install.bat and change the paths from %~dp0 to hardcoded, again you could probably come up with just about anything OTHER than a batch file and it would work, as opposed to the way it is now which...doesn't...
Also for us US users new to the party the example URI in the installer isn't available in the US so no matter what it's broken, I found a Green Day song (Jesus of Suburbia) that works and appears to be available everywhere.

The server is nice, and fast, and for what it is (and the price) works well. Especially for "party mode" of just switching between playlists or "ohhh I really wanna listen to song x right now!"
But the installer as it is...is so broken as to be virtually useless. The only downside to me making a package for this is that everytime you update the software I'd either have to do it again or use something free like, I believe nullsofts installer.

I would highly recommend learning the Nullsoft installer btw, it is free, and can do a LOT better job than batch files. As far as I know (I use a several thousand dollar software suite at work not nullsoft so I'm not too good with nullsoft) it can even do things like execute a command and wait for feedback.

Thank you for your feedback. The packaging thing has been nagging me for a while now.
I know my packaging is poor and I would be very grateful for any help!
I have tried things like Nullsoft before, and I did not do very well.
Is there any chance that you could create a package for Spotify Controller and instruct me on how to keep that package updated when I release future versions?

I'm actually working on a couple scripts right now, because as nice as MSI's are, there isn't a really good free editor, but at least I can maybe give you some scripts that will make it a little more fault tolerant.

The spotifyOpenUri.bat needs to be updated to somehow tell where spotify is installed to. It SHOULD be as simple ad swapping between %programfiles(x86)% and %programfiles%
I hate microsoft for introducing the (x86) directory...whomever did that should be banned from touching computers.
spotify.bat also needs the same modification.
The install.bat is the one that has the most problems. More on that in a second.
Also you can take a zip file capture of your directory and use nullsoft installer to generate an install from that zip file, that gets you around the "tagged as from the internet" issue AND gives you an installer. But it isn't going to give you a shortcut without using a script I don't think.

I downloaded Nullsoft (http://nsis.sourceforge.net/Main_Page) and tried your code above, but it didn't work at all to compile :-(

Unable to queue up multiple files to sftp from Gallery, only takes 1 file.
Downloaded Instant Upload this evening. Using SFTP to upload from the gallery in my HTC Desire Android phone. Seems to be able to only upload one jpg at a time when I select all. Hope you can get multiple file selections working eventually.

RE: Packaging apps
I too, in a former existence, was an app packager. It really isn't that hard, at a basic level, but can get some interesting complexities as you progress.
I still use my old Wise Studio to cleanup and customize my own installers/tweaks, etc. It's not great for 7/Vista, but so long as the app is simple it's ok.
There's a free MSI Creator/Editor out there called InstEd - check it out on insted dot com.
Check it out - the "advanced" version is $29.99. I haven't done much with it yet, but for free it's hard to beat.
If you guys want to swap MSI's and VBScripts on this-maybe we should spin up another thread just for the packaging piece.
Oh and I'll vouch for Alcaron's ideas about paths/shortcuts/vbs...you definitely have to be careful about assuming anything. I tend to do a LOT of validation in my scripts and try to fail out gracefully (and log it!), especially if I don't know where the package will be deployed. I log darn near every single line of my scripts - I like to know exactly where it fails.

Some ideas for features/mods:
I like the "use queue/add to queue" functionality, but it seems the queue will only process if I then open the app and start the processing. I guess what I'm looking for is a background processing - so I add a file to the queue, and the queue processes in the background so I can then go add more files to it. Along with this idea, maybe a setting (to with enabling queue) where the queue delays starting for a couple minutes.
The rules are a creative approach -I wouldn't have thought of that. Perhaps you can add a "Target Folder" option, with folders that the user pre-defines (similar to how rules are predefined). So when a file is selected for sending with Instant Upload, if you have any Target Folders defined it will popup a list. Otherwise it just goes to the default config.
Just some ideas-bounce them around the users and see what some other people think. They may come up with some interesting twists.

Interesting with the first part about MSI, is there any chance you could try and make one for the Spotify Controller Server? That would be just awesome!!

About the Instant Upload feature requests. I like the way you are thinking, and I have been thinking in that direction for a while as well. At least with the predefined folders. The background work would mean a bit more work, as I guess I would have to create a service, and I am not sure many people would use such a feature. Do you?

Sorry for FC. 3-4 users reported the same issue. But we cannot duplicate this issue on our test phone. Maybe it depends on your software configuration?

Root ftp server allows to modify everything

Starting here some bug feedback
Or well at first: File Expert is just Great!
In the newest update were progressbars for copy and more, they are not working.
I see the bar but its the whole time full as if the copy is already done.

I found this in one of the 'best new apps' websites. I am loving it. The network features really grab me. I can easily - EASILY - log on to our company network and browse files from anonymous or login-required sources. And it links trivially to my home network, allowing me to push/pull from any public drive on any of the computers at home.
I also really like the look and feel. It is my preferred file explorer of choice.

it looks better than ES and astro but nothing is like ROOT EXPLORER! its so fast, small, usefull and handy. plus, it can access all the system file and folders so easily and quickly without any problem. i'd recommend root explorer for all...

Great app, successfully replaced Root Explorer for me. If only you can add an option to rearrange the toolbar icons, would be great.

I have remote smb folder containing about 700 images and it seems impossible to view last modifyed images first. Image viewer sorts images regardless of files sort order.

what to do
1. Right click on Chrome shortcut, select “Properties”
2. Switch to “Shortcut” tab. In “Target” field, insert [space]--ignore-certificate-errors at the end. Once you have that finished, click “OK” .
It will look something like this:

or
“C:\…\chrome.exe” –ignore-certificate-errors
Close Chrome and open it again with that shortcut
3. Open APK Downloader Options page. If your screen looks like the right picture ( the warning box is gone ), then you disabled SSL error warnings successfully
II. Enter email and device ID on Options page
1. There are two ways to get Email and Device ID
a. Easy way: install this Device ID app, it will show you your emails and Device ID
b. Difficult way: Open dial pad, call *#*#8255#*#* ( 8255 = TALK ). If it opens “GTalk Service Monitor”, find lines that begin with JID and Device ID. Your email is JID, and your device id is a string that after android- prefix
For example: if it shows android-1234567890abcdef , then your device ID is 1234567890abcdef
Do not type in random email or device ID, it won’t work
2. Enter your email’s password, then press Login. If everything is ok, now you can use APK Downloader
III. Start using
After finished two steps above, you can start using APK Downloader. Open Android Market, view any FREE apps ( for example: Simple Text ), then press the APK Downloader icon on address bar
IV. FAQs:
Is is against Android Market’s ToS?
- I’m afraid that it is. Please read Section 3.3 for more information. So again, you at your own risk.
Where is the Options page?
- Click on the Wrench icon on the toolbar, go to Tools -> Extensions. Find APK Downloader. At the end of its description, you’ll see a link to Options page.
Why do I have to enter my email, password and device ID? Does it store or send my password to another place?
- The extension only stores email, device id and Android Market cookie in Chrome local storage, on your computer. To be able to get Android Market cookie, it needs your email and password to login at https://www.google.com/accounts/ClientLogin . After it’s done, password is not stored, email is stored to display on Options page, Device ID and Cookie are stored for later requests. I do not send those information to another sites.
Why don’t you just put one account in the extension, so we don’t have to use our information ?
- That’s good for users, but not for developers like us. For example, when 1000 users download same app, it only counts 1.
Why do I have to disable SSL error warnings first?
- This extension needs to send data to https://android.clients.google.com/market/api/ApiRequest . If you don’t disable that warning, Chrome will display an error page, and there is no way to make this extension work.
Is it safe to disable SSL error warnings?
- It’s safe if you know what you’re doing. Please notice that it only disable SSL warnings, not disable SSL protocol.
But I recommend that you should create two separate Chrome shortcuts. One with and one without –ignore-certificate-errors flag.
Again, do you collect our information?
- I don’t want to get into trouble by collecting users information, so I try not to have it in any way. The only thing I’m collecting is which apps are downloaded by users. You can view the source code to make sure about this.
Can it download apps that not available in my country or not compatible with my device?
- The answer is yes, because it uses T-Mobile operator code.
Can it download paid apps?
- No, of course not, unless you purchased it with your logged account before. Please remember this isn’t a tool for pirating.
Why do you make this extension?
- I’m an Android developer. While working on my new project, I have to decompile some apps on Android Market. Everytime I want to decompile one, I have to download it to my phone, use Astro to backup it to SDCard, connect phone to PC, then copy the apk file. That’s a really long and painful to me, because I have to do it over and over again. That’s why I come up with this idea.

this is not useless cos search on the internet and you will find a billion results about how to download apks to your pc i dont like not being-able to download apps to my pc try and you will see the use for it

I've put together an 8 minute video guide that demonstrates how (using an FTP
server) you can transfer files between your Phone and a computer over a WiFi
home network (natively through Windows explorer).
I've tried to make it fairly beginner friendly and its available in all resolutions including 1080p:

HELP & FAQ:
Applying the tutorial to an older Windows OS:
Windows Vista:
As far as I can recall, the method shown in my video should be virtually (if not completely) identical for Windows Vista Users. If you think I've missed something though, please let me know and I'll update accordingly.
Windows XP:
Mapping the Android FTP Server location in Windows XP should also work just fine. However, I don't think you can access the "add new network location" wizard in the manner shown in the video at 03:30 (I could be wrong). From memory - I believe you need to do the following instead:
a) Open 'My Computer' from the start menu or desktop shortcut
b) From the 'TOOLS' menu select 'MAP NETWORK DRIVE'
c) Click the link "Sign up for Online Storage or Connect to a Network Server"
d) Select "Choose a custom Network Location"
e) I think this should bring you pretty much back in line with the video at 03:45
Mac OS:
I'm not a Mac expert, but perhaps you can try the following...
Follow the video up to the point where I switch over to my PC (03:15), then try this on your Mac:
a) Press Command+K to launch the “connect to server” dialogue
b) Enter the Wifi/FTP URL from the phone app into the address field
c) Click on the “+” icon if you want to save as a favourite
d) Press Connect
e) Enter your Username and Password when prompted & press connect again
f) You should then be able to browse the contents of your phone as a local folder.
g) Rejoin video at 06:50
Web Browser:
Although the aim of this video is to avoid having to use a web browser, you can enter the 'WiFi URL' generated by the Android App (visible at 03:05) into the address bar of any FTP enabled web browser (eg. Firefox / Internet Explorer).
TROUBLESHOOTING
Worked Initially, then stopped:
If you were initially successful in getting everything to work, but some time later you find that you can't connect - this may be related to your router's DHCP configuration. Some routers allocate IP addresses on a dynamic/time lease basis. If your router is configured in this way, your phone's IP address may change every time it re-connects to your local network (thus invalidating the WiFi URL that we copied from your phone during the tutorial). If this is the case, you'll need to refer to your router's documentation and try to assign a static IP to your phone.
Error 550 (CHMOD):
If this error crops up immediately upon trying to access a location on your phone (eg. a sub folder), you have probably entered an invalid path in the "Stay Within Folder" field during the app configuration. Double check the path that you entered and make sure that you didn't accidentally deleted the preceding slash (/) too.
If this error only appears when trying to delete or move files, it could be a couple of things. Do check the steps mentioned in the above paragraph, but also remember what I mentioned in the video about avoiding paths that act as a shortcut to another folder. For example, don't enter "/sdcard" in the "Stay Within Folder" field during configuration of the app. On my phone, this results in read only access to the MicroSD card. I found that I needed to specify the full path (eg. "/mnt/sdcard") to obtain full Read/Write access.
Invalid Handle Error:
This error may occur when trying to move or delete files from your phone. If so:
1) Double check (in the FTP server setup on your phone) that you haven't added a trailing slash (/) after the path specified in the "Stay Within Folder" field.
2) You can also get this error if you start the FTP server, then launch an app that needs access to the folder containing the files you want to move or delete (eg. The Camera / gallery app). Simply exiting the app may solve this. If not:
a) exit your app
b) Stop the FTP server using the home screen widget
c) Restart the FTP server using the home screen widget
d) try again before launching your app.
No WIFI URL:
If you start the FTP server but don't receive a Wifi URL, double check that your phone's WiFi connection is turned on. This may sound obvious, but it could be an easy one to overlook.
Firewall Issues:
If you're convinced that you have everything set up correctly but you simply can't connect to the server - a firewall could be the cause of your problems..
If you're not familiar with firewalls, you may want to disconnect from the internet and temporarily disable your firewall completely to see if this solves your problem. If it does, at least you'll have a starting point. If not, you may need to look a little closer at any filtering rules on your router.
Unfortunately I can't help troubleshoot every possible combination, but generally speaking, you should double check that your internal network is configured as a trusted zone and that there are rules allowing (or no rules blocking) traffic on the required port ip / address etc. For example, 'ESET Smart Security' users will probably want to pay specific attention to the 'Network Filtering' options.

I'm not a Mac expert, but perhaps you can try the following and let me know if it works?...

Regarding AOKP 4.0.4, are you using a Galaxy SII / Nexus? If so, I think I've heard about people having trouble with widgets before. I think you have to drag them out of the widget draw instead. Does that make sense?

No I'm using a sensation. Tried adding it by the widget menu and it didnt work. Then I rebooted to get the widget to show in the widget drawer so I can drag it but it didn't show up.

Hmm.. In that case I'm afraid I really don't know. Unfortunately I've never tested AOKP, so I don't have any first hand experience to go on.
Off the top of my head, my suggestion would be to try widgets from several other market apps and see if any of them act in the same way. I realise that won't solve your problem, but it could go some way towards establishing the source of it.

I’ve actually used AirDroid before, but while it is a great app in its own right - its file management capabilities only seem to go as far as letting you export stuff from your MicroSD card in a zip archive.
The method I show in the video is certainly more cumbersome initially (hence the reason for making it), but I find the end result more functional for simply copying/moving/deleting files.

Tried some of the free ones on the market but still no luck of finding one with a widget. Will search tomorrow for paid ones there must be one with a widget! haha

Since Google keep updating Android, some APIs have been changed. This feature is not steady to newer version Android OS, and hard to make it satisfied enough.
May I know why you so need this feature?

Check this app,
then under settings,
click use root explorer.
Under that, the option becomes available to mount / and /system as r/w
By default, at least on my htc phone, writing to the system partition is disabled by the kernel, and system is mounted read only.
By installing a different kernel, /system write protection can be removed, but then system is still mounted read only

Few people still uses mobile with low internal memory . most of the popular file managers like root explorer has this feature.

i would use this app all the time if you could integrate landscape mode for tablets since i have a nexus 7

2. search to include both internal and external storages;cloud. Search result to be categorized under sub headings... nearest possible to be listed following that under subcategories as suggestions.
3. ability to set permission to pushed apps inside system/app
4. allow cut/paste/delete apps in system/app or system/priv-app folder
5. themes/customization
6. cloud storage integration.
8. thumbnail preview

8. lock app with gesture/pattern/pin

when scrolling through apk list in SD then it causes Fc of app sometimes
