@dummie999 hi friend, could you give me some reference?
Do you mean display read/write permission in file details? Or something else?
As well, could you share me why you need this option?
Many thanks.

Since Google keep updating Android, some APIs have been changed. This feature is not steady to newer version Android OS, and hard to make it satisfied enough.
May I know why you so need this feature?
Thank you.

Check this app,
then under settings,
click use root explorer.
Under that, the option becomes available to mount / and /system as r/w
By default, at least on my htc phone, writing to the system partition is disabled by the kernel, and system is mounted read only.
By installing a different kernel, /system write protection can be removed, but then system is still mounted read only

Few people still uses mobile with low internal memory . most of the popular file managers like root explorer has this feature.

i would use this app all the time if you could integrate landscape mode for tablets since i have a nexus 7

Downloading torrents!

Great and Fast file explorer
Pros:
1. clear intuitive display
2. root files explored
3. memory display
4. MOVE TO DESKTOP
5. multiple copy/paste...
6. search under directory
Would be still more great if it can
1. search added in front page next to download/documents/ in the top right corner near the three dots...
2. search to include both internal and external storages;cloud. Search result to be categorized under sub headings... nearest possible to be listed following that under subcategories as suggestions.
3. ability to set permission to pushed apps inside system/app
4. allow cut/paste/delete apps in system/app or system/priv-app folder
5. themes/customization
6. cloud storage integration.
8. thumbnail preview
7. widget in desktop..
8. lock app with gesture/pattern/pin
still to be suggested...
THANK you for an excellent stable and quick file explorer

* Thumbnails - support jpg/png/mp3/mp4/3gp thumbnails

* Image Viewer - support both local and remote folder, we will support gestures and multi-touch in the future
* Search SD card
* Help your player to play medias which stores on SMB share (need your player to support HTTP streaming), just like some users on the app comments said that WE are the ONLY ONE file manager that could directly open some type of videos over SMB network
* File Picker - Let FE to help you anywhere you want
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Why choose FE? Here are the answers:
1. No ADs and it's FREE
2. Gives you almost everything you need to manage your phone's resources
3. Smaller size than competitors (Astro and ES are all bigger than 1MB, but FE is only 920KB)
4. Acceptable performance
5. Free technical support via email
6. Clear User Interface, most operations can be done only in touch
7. The ONLY ONE file manager that support both PC 2 phone & phone 2 PC wifi file transfer and directly play some videos and music via SMB
Our Final Goal:
We want to make File Expert to be the best file manager/wireless file sharing app on Android platform
Sorry for FC. 3-4 users reported the same issue. But we cannot duplicate this issue on our test phone. Maybe it depends on your software configuration?
Starting here some bug feedback
Or well at first: File Expert is just Great!
In the newest update were progressbars for copy and more, they are not working.
I see the bar but its the whole time full as if the copy is already done.
Hope for new updates
I found this in one of the 'best new apps' websites. I am loving it. The network features really grab me. I can easily - EASILY - log on to our company network and browse files from anonymous or login-required sources. And it links trivially to my home network, allowing me to push/pull from any public drive on any of the computers at home.
I also really like the look and feel. It is my preferred file explorer of choice.
Thanks for a great product.
Great File Manager...keep up the good work.
It is really good. Only if it could gain root acces... it could be an excelent replacement for Root Explorer.
Just discovered it today, great work
Had high hopes for this app... FTP worked for me but HTTP didn't, was disappointed no root access or facility to mount etc... uninstalled... will be keeping an eye on it though
Would be great if you put sshd in there too....
it looks better than ES and astro but nothing is like ROOT EXPLORER! its so fast, small, usefull and handy. plus, it can access all the system file and folders so easily and quickly without any problem. i'd recommend root explorer for all...
Great app, successfully replaced Root Explorer for me. If only you can add an option to rearrange the toolbar icons, would be great.
I have remote smb folder containing about 700 images and it seems impossible to view last modifyed images first. Image viewer sorts images regardless of files sort order.
Very nice work!
Very good app! Uninstalled ES File Explorer. Keep up the good work.
I think this is not a best file manager for Android. Even not from top 100.
Does this program work if run from an SD version of Android?
ROOT EXPLORER is the best of all
gallery excluder
all credits go to knox420 {http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=2608226 }
Inspired by this post on the blog I decided to ease up the exclusion of directories from the gallery/media database. Gallery Excluder does the job for me.
Here's why:
Many apps create folders on the sd-card and drop their stuff there. Often, they place images as well. Now that Android checks the sd-card for new media from time to time, these folders will be added to the media database and displayed in the stock Gallery app.
Here's how:
Gallery Excluder lists all direct subfolders of '/sdcard' respectively '/mnt/sdcard' and displays them in a list. If an item/folder gets checked there is a '.nomedia' placed in that folder. If the folder gets unchecked the '.nomedia' is removed.
Since it can take a while to have the gallery update you can force a manual update via options menu.
So please let me know if such a tool can be helpful for anyone except myself.
UPDATED VERSION:
I got a new version that supports subfolders (available at the 1st post)
Navigation:
- long press an item to dive into the subfolder
- back takes you up one level
Downside: there is no feedback when you selected a subfolder for its parent. E.g. when you excluded /mnt/sdcard/folder/subfolder/ you can't recognize it when viewing folder /mnt/sdcard/ (folder won't be selected).
Pre-Market release: Please check.
Updated:
- Select all/none
- Hint for 1st time users
Hi,
thank you for recommending FE! We think it's time to change, Astro and ES are good app but we think we can provide more useful and powerful alternative.
Amazing app, I switched a couple weeks ago. I put in feature requests on your forum, mainly for a refresh button for the toolbar.
Some other things that would be nice:
more archive support (7z for example)
And the 'download any file from the browser's feature astro has.
I use FE primarily, but because it lacks 7z support and the browser download feature I am forced to keep two other file managers handy.
Anyway this app is still superior to all other file managers, keep up the good work!
This is a really cool app. One request:
Option to show Toolbar only when at least one item is checked, or by pressing Menu while at least one item is checked.
Also, for some reason it takes a while (around 1 full second) for the Operation menu to show after I click on the button. Should it take this long?
I'm totally trying it!!!! As soon as I get home
[Free][App][2.3+] UNCOPT Holo File Browser w/ su, dual views
UNCOPT File Browser is the nicest and most innovative Holo styled file browser for Android with root capabilities.
It provides all the features needed to browse and organize your pictures, files, documents and videos. It gives you access to the internal storage, sd card, external usb storage devices, internal filesystem and more (with plugins) .
Unlike other available file browsers on the market, UNCOPT File Browser also offers unique features:
Resizable split view: a simple swipe will split the screen in two and give the user two independent browsable panels that can be resized at will. File managing becomes even easier and more efficient.
Efficient archive browsing (zip, tar): unlike other apps, the archive content is never extracted in a temporary folder (or even in memory). The specific parts that need to be accessed (to display or send them) are streamed on access.
Nested archives: unlike other apps, nested archive content can be listed and accessed. To the user there is no difference between a folder, an archive and a nested archive in terms of browsing. Archives can be nested in multiple levels.
Keyboard navigation: the keyboard navigation is fully functional.
Simple action bar navigation with interactive path.
Automatic sync with MediaStore (Gallery) and the MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) connection.
Complies completely with the Android Holo Style, even on Gingerbread.
On top of that you get all the usual features such as:
Browsing.
Copy/paste using official mechanism for compatibility with other apps.
Sort by file size, file name and modification date.
Create, delete, rename, send, bookmark files and folders.
Search.
Create zip files.
Shows thumbnails for APKs and images in gridview mode.
Multi file selection.
Local Network SMB protocol (windows shares), free plugin required.
Registers as a file picker so that other applications (such as gmail) can access the files too.
UNCOPT File Browser also provides tools for rooted devices:
Browse system files like any other (including system and user apps).
Change file permissions.
Automatically remount read-only filesystems as read-write.
suid/guid/sticky special permissions
Available on Google Play. Search for UNCOPT File Browser.
Tried it, looks really awesome, but won't test more, as one of the critical features I need (and probably many others) is Cloud support (Dropbox, Gdrive, etc.)
But it really has the best UI I saw in a file manager, very smooth, looks awesome even on my Optimus One's small screen
Edit: Like a post below me, I also hope you keep getting it better, it truly has HUGE potential (holo Solid Explorer)
It is on XDA Portal, so...
looks good,nice work
really an awesome looking app,great features too.
But there are some things i really miss right now or i would like to be changed maybe
-possbility to execute an apk(right now it just opens the content)
-drag and drop for files between the 2 tabs would be awesome
-maybe a possibilty to customize the view,like disable the file size part(because on a phone,even with 4,7" it takes up a lot of screen.
-sometimes it is a bit hard to hit the triangle for the menu of the file to show up
Edit
Just noticed I can hit the whole date/size space to open the file menu, nice
hope this amazing file explorer keeps updating,it really has a huge amount of potential :good:
Bought the full version just to support the developer. Keep it up, i love it!
Looks really good! Keep up the awesome work
Im liking the whole Holo look and how it works to browse files, but I can't install simple apks? It just views it as if it was a zip files. i can easily install apks on other file browsers except this one? Maybe it's just me but thought i'd share the problem im having.
finally found a simple yet powerful root file management app. Would be cool if there is an option to show the folder properties of the folder i.e. the amount of data inside the folder.
Love the App! Got the paid version.
As along with the rest, installing an APK is a mandatory must!
Am sure this will be in an updated version
Looks good so far. But currently not usable for me. Some things are missing, like cloud. And if you press on pictures they don't open, you have to go through the context menu. Thats kinda annoying. And it laggs on Galaxy s3 (CM 10.1) while scrolling. But the idea is good, im looking forward to future versions of it. Thanks.
You'll find there are other places to get apk's other than the Play Store. XDA for example. Other than tossing them in /system/app which is rather counter-productive, the only option is to install via FM.
I think he misunderstood... ES has a feature to install apps without the package installer... it just installs in the background
Thank you all for your feedback.
We're working hard to add all the features you requested.
As for the apks, you can install them by clicking on the thumb (bottom right corner of the row/cell). It will bring up the dropdown menu. Click open and it should do the trick.
A lot of people are complaining about it (not only to install apks but also to open a file), we'll try to make it more obvious.
We start a continued vote to features you want in a weekly cycle, to vote the features we should add to our dev plan for next week.
- Send folder to home screen - suggested by @Walter.White, @FiniteDGk
- Set music as ringtone - suggested by @Horcza
- Image Browser - make self images browser - suggested by @dummie999, @FiniteDGk
Due to scheduled dev plan, we have to postponed the following two features to next vote.
- Support Dropbox - suggested by @Walter.White
- Support manage to archive files - suggested by @FiniteDGk, @dummie999, @balilu, @abhishek 9650
Rules for vote:
1. The vote starts from Friday to next Thursday;
2. Top 3 voted features will add to our dev plan for next week;
3. Selected features will be released on next Thursday.
Top 3 features in our week#1 vote have been added into dev plan of next week (20140523~20140529):
- Downloads - new directory for downloaded files
- Root Access - for rooted devices only
- Hide - set selected folders/files not listed
And you will get them in next release, possible on next Thursday.
As suggested by you, I am re-posting my views here. @uuOuu, if possible, please add an option to sort the music by date added or last modified. Currently, music is listed alphabetically. Most users would like to hear the latest songs first . Also the settings menu is accessible only from the home screem, rather it should be accessible from anywhere within the app. Thank you.
Hi @digesh9870, the dev list has fixed according to the latest vote, discussed with dev team, they will support this feature in their free time. If you have any other requirement, we will add to the vote list, your vote will fast the progress.
@balilu
the feature "Move file to target folder" is in poll.
In our dev plan, this is the same as you mentioned "Cut & paste", but I wonder if you have more ideas to file operations on mobile, kindly please share more experience while you dealing with files.
Many thanks.
Hi All, you can also leave your idea/suggestions here, to build our own file manager together.
We shall collect all your suggestions, and schedule in our dev/poll list.
i would request you to add feature's which are:
1.preview of audio file while selecting audio files for sending via whatever
will add more in a few minutes gotta go somewhere...
@uuOuu
Feature request: editing permissions. Allows you set r/w permission for owner/group/everyone.
Another feature request: Instead of displaying share folders not available, you could perhaps just remove the option.
Yet another feature request: allow removing /system apps (root only of course), but add a warning: you are removing a system app etc. etc.
Here are my requests to make it awesome,
Symlink the application from Preload to System app for Samsung device (Or say create a link for the file) option.
Backup the apk and its data.
Backup the application automatically when installed/updates on user choice, also an option to keep the max versions.
Open and edit ability for zip files even to create zip files.
Hey some features to add:
- permissions changer for root, if possible also multi file premission changer. I couldnt find this in any root explorer.
- root - mount rw
- cloud for dropbox, gdrive etc.,
- if we have app manager why not to give us app backup with this?
- rar unpacking if not present, I dont know
- playlists creator? I remember it was in old astro file browser and was working great with Sony Walkman which dont have playlists creator from folders
- maybe it is posiible to add custom path for bluetooth? Would be awesome
- and stilll thinking what more.
Anyway it is first file manager where users are choosing features mostly
