OTG Unmount Notification - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After updating to Nougat, after connecting an otg pen drive, there was a convenient option in the notification window where u could unmount the drive.
I think I swiped that notification & now I don't get any notification after connecting my otg pen drive. My device is connected & works like normal, but I don't get any notification. It's not convenient as I need to go to Storage in Settings to unmount my device now. I no longer have this:

I couldn't find a picture of the Samsung notification
Any solution?

After a lot of testing and deleting app data, the solution (that worked for me) is very simple. I simply inserted a different [brand of?] USB flash drive. The notification showed for the new flash drive, and when I connected the previous flash drive, the notification shows again. Hope it helps.

Try a different USB port on your pc. If it's a desktop, try using one of the USB ports on the back. You just may not be getting enough juice for a good connection.
Also, make sure you are using your Motorola cable. I tried once with another cable and it didn't work.
i have been using the xoom micro usb cable.
nothing works. on my windows 7 32-bit laptop or on my windows 7 64-bit desktop
i have downloaded the motorola driver installer; i think the drivers have installed properly.
usb debugging off or on. after reboots of both the xoom and the pc/desktop.
tested tiamat 1.1 and the new rom: MANTA RAY to no avail.
my xoom has always been recognized as a portable media player. but it worked properly before.
then it just did not work anymore. this is why i am so bugged with this.
now, it is still recognized as a portable media player. but the files and folders are no longer displayed. as you can see from the images
of course, i can work around it. like sync via media player or bluetooth or just remove my sd and use the laptop's card reader. but still, i want to know what's wrong.

I have this exact same problem. I updated to the latest Tiamat ROM, which fixed it. However, the next day it started doing the exact same thing all over again.
EDIT: It looks like even Fastboot and ADB don't work, so this is a pretty HUGE problem for me, at least :/
I've narrowed my particular problem down somewhat. Whenever I restore from Titanium is when it breaks. I'm going to do a very selective restore of only what I need and go from there.
EDIT: Success! All I had to do was bypass restoring all of the system settings and it works fine now.

No wonder...It's kind of a rule not to try to restore system apps/data when you are changing roms. Titanium Backup is good to restore MISSING apps and apps data after you have flashed a new rom. Anyway, that has worked well for me.
However, I don't know if that helps with the OP's issues...

[Q] Cant access transformer files on PC

Hi All,
I am struggling to access my transformer files using my PC.
I have used the SDK tools and can get the device ID, so i know that bit works
USB Debugging is on
USB cable is new
I am using ICS Nightlies v24, the latest Gapps and TestyMeh v1.0 kernal
i can access the files in androids file explorer
my issue is odd, i connect my transformer to my pc and i hear the connection tone, it then shows up in my windows explorer (see picture 1). I click on it and it opens (Picture 2). then when i click on any of the files it goes to a blank window, and at the bottom it says "0 files" (Picture 3). if i try to drop a file it says it is going to root of storage and nothing happens (picture 4)
any idea why i cant see them?

I have same issue (but not that severe). I nailed it down to the .nomedia flags. Recently, the TF is connected to the PC as a media-device, so I think that .nomedia flag will play its role.
If you have the flag in the root --> whole drive is hidden.
If you have the flag in the root of a folder --> whole folder may appears empty. I just remove the flags to see the contents. But then the multimedia apps make pick up all the junks and add them to their library.
Currently I switch to a wireless connection (using some apps like Samba) to get around.

Samba seems to allow me to access the internal and external SD card, but it isn't the .nomedia issue. I guess this will work for now, but i would still like to get it sorted..........
thanks anyway, anyone else got an ideas?

For some reason my Note 5 doesnt seem to want to connect to my Windows 10 PC as USB storage. Did they nix this too or is it still possible?

Should still be possible. What does it say in the top status bar when you have it plugged in? Does it show connected as installer?

Try turning USB debugging on in the developer options. Restart phone then plug up

this is what it shows before anything tries to install properly.

Looks like it was the micro usb cable I was using. It wasnt the one that came with the phone and was a bit older. Guess that did the trick, thanks!
You should clean the dishes when you're finished eating off them. It's easier that way, rather than letting the food become hard and crusty, which is more of a pain to remove later on.

MTP Drivers problems with Windows 10 after last Windows Update

Hi, all.
After the last big windows update, my Galaxy S7 MTP connection stopped to work. It was working like a charm before. Now the driver is not recognized by Windows and there's no way in hell to transfer a file via cable from my PC.
Here are some shots:

There's no KIES anymore, tried Smart Switch from Samsung, didn't work because my Windows 10 is version N, without Media Pack.
Strangely I can't find over the internet any mention to this problem.
Anyone there to give me a hand on this?
Tried updating the driver?
http://developer.samsung.com/galaxy/others/android-usb-driver-for-windows
Uninstall that unrecognised one if it lets you first
It's possible it's not the phone driver causing the problem too, chipset/USB?
Also try this program "Ghostbuster"
https://ghostbuster.codeplex.com/
1. Disconnect phone
2. Right click an entry of each section and choose "Add Class"
3. Once all sections are highlighted, hit "Remove ghosts" at the bottom right
It might restart the program again as Administrator without removing them first time around, if so just hit remove ghosts again
Reboot the machine and connect the phone

Thanks for your reply.
I've tried this driver before, it didn't work. It's also quite outdated (2015).
Ghostbuster was a nice touch, I didn't know this one. It has not fixed the problem, but it's another tool to try in the future problems that I face. I will try to find a different computer to connect to.
In the meanwhile, I'm relying on Resilio/Airdroid sort of solutions, but Wifi is a lot slower for files over 4GB, which are usually my kind of transfer.

No USB Mass Storage (MSC) mode in Android 10??

connecting phone to pc via PTP/MTP or "file transfer" suck because you can't browse full photos without downloading them to local drive first for example.
USB Mass Storage mode doesn't have this deficiency, is there easy way to get it back?
device?
Cubot king kong mini 2
it also happens on other android devices!
You can't bring back

Modern Android devices use different USB connection protocols, for example MTP what acts a lot like USB mass storage. This because the Android file system had to be accessible from Windows device, it had to be formatted with the FAT file system. Not only does Microsoft have patents it exerts on FAT, FAT is also an older, slower file system without a modern permission system.
An MTP device shows up in Windows Explorer so you can browse and transfer files.
For wireless file transfers, a good choice is AirDroid. It allows you to connect to your Android device over Wi-Fi with just a web browser, moving files back and forth without the necessity of a cable. It will likely be a bit slower, but it can be a life-saver if you’re out and about and didn’t bring the appropriate USB cable. For transferring files from Android to your PC, Portal is also a quick and easy solution.
thanks, I've actually found some ad-free apps on https://playsearch.kaki87.net/

I suggest using x-plore and using the same network to transfer/view files. Have been using it's wifi share function since 2014 or something.
