Samsung Dex Not Working - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Hello, I just got my new samsung Dex, I plug it to the charge, mouse, keyboard and display but when I put the phone on, It doesn´t work, the phone start charging and a notification turns on saying that a new keyboard is plugged but no Image and no samsung dex pop up on the phone. I´ve tried multiples display and still no image! what can I do? thanks.

Sounds like a bad unit. What type of monitor are you using? Is it HDMI natively or are you using an adapter?

Tried multiple monitors
I tried in 4 different monitors, 3 native hdmi and 1 with an adapter. My phone just not recognize the dex.

Are you rooted, or using a custom ROM?
Sent from my SM-G955U using XDA-Developers Legacy app

No, Stock firmware

Did you disabled any package?

I have the same problem. I've been having intermediate problems with my phone though with a lot of other things camera not working, notifications not working even though everything on the device is fine. My replacement will be here tomorrow. I'm hoping it is just the phone not both units that would be unlucky. I will update you once I get the new device.

Make sure power saving is of in order to start Dex

Constant restarting of DEX
Hi All,
So I went and got myself a Samsung Dex to go with my S8.
To begin with I put on a new Rom which was not de-bloated so it would work making sure all the samsung apps are installed.
Once I did this (time consuming restoring apps etc) plugged it into the DEX it comes up the lovely boot screen on the monitor then instantly states ''UiI Has Stopped'' then restarts to show the login screen.
But then keeps restarting showing the login screen over and over until you remove the S8 which then goes back to normal on the phone. I have force stopped Samsung Dex app cleared cache - nothing , cleared cache on sytem ui - nothing
Wiped Dalvik cache etc in TWRP - nothing
Can anyone help or have any suggestions?
I really do not want to do a wipe of all apps that has been restored and start again
please advise, thanks in advance

Do you attach original charger, that comes with phone? I have Type-C charger from Lumia 950XL, but it doesn't work with Samsung DEX - only original Samsung charger should be attached to DEX.

Dex questions
I have bought 2 dex from amazon uk they are £86 instead of £130 if purchased from samsung
But do not come with chargers or cables just the dex and a userguide
Problem is both of them dont work
I have tried using 2 adaptive fast charger from my s8 plus and colleagues s8 as the user guide say they work
Tried s8 plus device and s8 phones that belong to colleagues and both dexs do nothing no power no lights no beeps can they really both be faulty???
Tried pixel type c cable different plugs seems nothing works
They s8 doesnt even charges when connected
My device has no dex apps installed or in the settings no options for hdmi
Am i doing anything wrong??
Pls help

I have exactly the same problem, Dex station bought from Amazon and when I connect the phone nothing happens, it doesn't charge the phone and no messages on screen, also the TV doesn't recognize any HDMI source.

All you need is moving Knoxdesktoplauncher.apk to priv-app, confirmed solution.
Good luck.

Same problem here.

Same problem here. Using Note 8. Ordered dex earlier this week. Recieved today and can't get dex to come up. Zero power to dex. Tried several C chargers including the one that came with it. Tried various HDMI cables. Sending this one back to Amazon Monday and purchasing another one from Best Buy.

I thought my Dex was faulty. It would not work no matter what i did. I tried everything. I finally took off my ultra slim case for shots and giggles and it worked perfectly. My case is thin as hell But it still kept decks from working. If Dex is not working for you try stripping your phone down to when you 1st got it and try it

Well, the solution for me seems to be just using a different HDMI cable between my monitor and DeX Station.
That is, because my problem seemed to be that I had to hold it in my hand in order to get it to connect. When I did, putting it down on the floor (because I'm running a temporary setup due to some home renovations) would cause DeX to close and drop me back into Nova Launcher on the internal display.
In fact, I am typing this post within the Samsung web browser in DeX. Pale Moon wouldn't run at all within it, and Firefox Focus would only run in what I call "phone mode" (fixed window size, but with options to switch between portrait and landscape orientations), those are without "DeX Labs" enabled. Argh, I wish Samsung allowed the "blue light filter" to be used within DeX instead of only on the internal display
Oh, and I'm actually using a Note8, but found this thread in a web search while troubleshooting my problem earlier on

i have done something similar, bought a new Samsung monitor and wireless keyboard and mouse from PCWorld, upgraded to S8 then bought a DEX for around £50 from Ebay, Samsung have said it has a genuine serial number but so could another million of them. But it works as it should for a period of time then monitor goes blank. Its charging, the fan works, it works on phone when i remove HDMI but I'm not convinced its genuine Samsung?????
---------- Post added at 02:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:17 PM ----------
I did the same as I got a message from the Ebay seller with that as a suggestion and as you say thought there is no way thats gonna make a difference, but unlike you I was right it did bugger all and it still does not work right.
Gutted it did not work
next option coming up???

Same thing to me, works for a few seconds and the screen goes black

That's pretty much the same with me. It's as if the phone has no Dex drivers or the Dex app itself. The one thing that does work from the dex station is the plugged in mouse. The cursor appears on my s8 screen. But no Dex desktop springs up whatsoever.
I've got Gear VR ..and my S8 booted into everything Samsung (& oculus) VR automatically without any fault. Just doesn't to the same for Dex!

you need to use original charger and CABLE! I tried all cable and charger all not working, then I use both ori charger and cable and it work like a charm!

Help - Remove TV out settings from TP

Hi Guys,
I have a very unique problem. Couple of days back while charging my phone near a lot of dew waters was found in my TP. It happened due to heater being on and the windows getting a lot condensed dew and hence water was found in my TP.
Even though i have used a hair dry to it an the phone seems to be working now, there seems a problem with the htc usb jack. Whenever i plug in the cable my phone works normally however once the cable is removed it goes into tv out mode and making my phone speaker to be not working. I have tried disabling the tv out settings in the registry however still whenever i remove the cable it shows me that tv out settings.
Could someone please inform me how to remove the tv out settings completely from the phone including control panel as i never it use it so that my phone can start working again. I dont have this problem when using the Eclair android however the battery life there is not good at the moment.
TIA.
self bump hope some one can help me.
HELP!!!
i have this problem as well. TV-out is taking over my phone. it rotates and and doesnt go back unless i reset. if anyone can help us out ill be happy to donate!!!
I also have this problem from a faulty USB cable. (grounded I think)
If someone can help to remove TV/Video Out it would be awesome.
Try this in your registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\TVOUT]
"Flags"=dword:4
To remove the icon you need to find out which mycpl entry it uses.
Go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\MyCpl] and look at each number till you find the one that points to tvoutsetting.exe (it is 15 on my phone). Once you find it, go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\xx] (where xx is the number) and set "Hide"=dword:1
Can anyone help me remove TV Out and Video Out completely? ):

[Q] MK808B won't start after plugging ubuntu pendrive

Hi,
First of all, great site you've got there, been checking it ever since I laid my hands on my first htc g1.
Secondly, and I hope I'm not double-posting about an issue already raised, as I've screened the threads quite thoroughly.
Here's the issue I have with my MK808B.
I've tried to start it with a USB ubuntu pendrive plugged into the USB OTG (I had saved some files I wanted to transfer, didn't realize it would mess things up).
Regular start up with this hdmi key is Google tv screen > android screen > home screen.
I get stuck at android screen, no matter how long I wait.
Out of nowhere, I tried to use another 2A power supply, as this had been advertised on other threads, no sucess... I also tried to start it with a paperclip pressing the reset button, didn't work...
Honestly, I don't know what to do exactly, I think it might have tried to boot ubuntu out of the usb stick...
I think I have no option left but to flash it (thus losing all that is installed already on it).
Is there any trick that could restore things the way they were? Any suggestion welcome.
Thanks for your time and help.
Solved by flashing
Hi,
Since no mgic trick happened to save the day, I was left with no choice but to flash it.
Used rockchip batch tools, crossed my finger so the stick wasn't a clone with the mediatek chip, flashed stock plus goodies rom, waited 10-15 minutes, and voila!
good as new, got rid of the chinese apps I couldn't even log on, but got a full wipe of my data.

PC not Recognizing S6

tl;dr - Computer does not even acknowledge the phone exists, factory reset doesn't work. The cyan colored recovery is recognized by the computer though.
So yesterday I went on a hike, and before you start assuming "Oh he dropped his phone in the water or dirt or something" no I didn't. The hike is more of a tourist attraction really, with a man made path that you really can't miss... more of a stroll in the forest than a hike. So as I reached the end of the trail, I put my phone into Ultra Power Saving Mode as I needed the battery. While I was texting, the phone started acting up. The charging sound kept on coming on kind of like when a charging connection is sh**. Then the screen went black. The weird thing was though, that the screen was "on". I could attempt to capture a screenshot, and it would say "Unable to capture screenshot" in a message box on the bottom, and the ringtones would still go off. The phone stayed like this for a while, when I got into my car I noticed it seemed like the phone was charging from the car port, but the charging light was still on when the charger was unplugged from the car (which shouldn't happen normally). After I stopped in town, the phone worked again, but I had to rechoose my keyboard, theme, and wallpaper. I thought all was fine. However when I got home I noticed I couldn't connect my phone to my laptop. It would say charging, but Windows doesn't acknowledge the phone and I can't choose MTP or PTP on my phone.. it just says charging. I am 99.9% sure it has to do with what happened on the hike because it was working fine before. I tried a factory reset/cache wipe and going back to stock ROM (from CleanROM). Still not recognized. I tried toggling USB debugging, pretty much everything the Internet has thrown at me... I'm past my 14-day return period so I hope this isn't a problem over the next two years?
Yes... different USB and computers don't work. Samsung drivers installed. Kies and SmartSwitch don't recognize the phone. Tried rebooting both phone and computer. Using original cable that came with phone. I've pretty much exhausted everything... If I didn't list it you can suggest to see if I didn't try that.
Cant access device from Windows

My S6 got broken yesterday, so it went completely black but seems to turn on since the blue led is showing off when I power it on.
