Error 7 on TWRP while Installing Lineage OS on Redmi Note 3 Kenzo - General Questions and Answers

I have downloaded the latest official LineageOS build ( lineage-14.1-20170705-nightly-kenzo-signed.zip) for the Redmi Note 3 Kenzo. Then I tried to install this ROM from TWRP (3.0.2-2) on my Redmi Note 3 kenzo, and I got the following error message:
Code:
assert failed : xiaomi.verify_modem("MSM8976.LA.1.0.c3-30041-STD.PROD-1.77504.1.83742.1") == "1"
update process ended with error 7
I did some research on this and found out that a lot of others faced the same and one of the solutions for this is to install latest Dev Build of MIUI, which I did (MIUI 7.7.6 Global Beta) before flashing Lineage, but still failed.
From some other source, I got another solution stating that I should try by removing the assert check from the update-script in LineageOS package (zip) , but I am not sure if it will be harmless or not.
What should I do to successfully flash my device with the latest Lineage (or RessurectionRemix). I am stuck for last 2-3 days. It would be great if I am provided with some thorough procedures as I am kind of new to this whole "flashing custom rom" things.

Unable to install MIUI rom using TWRP on Xiomi Redmi 1s

I have been using the Armani rom for my redmi 1s for quite some time.Recently, I started facing a problem of process lagging which isn't getting fixed on installing all the updates so i decided to install MIUI again.
I went to downloads and downloaded the global MIUI rom 'V7.5.1.0.KHCMIDE'(MIUI7) and placed it on my USB Drive, connected it and flashed it using TWRP recovery. It shows me an error "error executing updater binary in zip" . I had faced the same problem when flashing an older version of a MIUI rom. I also tried checking the verify zip before flashing in twrp menu but still no success. I want to get back to MIUI. Kindly help me in overcoming this problem.
Thanks

Install Unofficial LineageOS rom on Honor 8

Hi I'm searching for someone who has installed the new unofficial release of LineageOS rom for Honor 8. The first time i tried to install it, I had different issues like an error (error code 7) on twrp. I want to know what are the risks of the installation and if I can return to stock EMUI whenever i want and when the phone gets bricked (no OS installed, only twrp and bootloop on honor logo). Thanks

Keep getting error 7 on ROMs installation

I just got my z5 from the service centre.
I use this guide to root my phone as soon as I got it.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/general/ftf-e66xx-patched-kernels-google-drive-t3630282
Then proceeded to install Resurrection remix and LineageOS.
First one gave me error 7 and the latter too.
I tried to delete the assert line in updater-script but the same problem persist.
You have to flash twrp 3.1.1 and everything will work without problem, so you are doing something wrong.
TWRP flash is already inside the guide. How would I say I get error 7 without installing TWRP?
That's kinda weird since I specifically deleted the line that checks for the device string for RR (only the AOSP / lineageOS based TWRP versions would match, so that check is kinda stupid),
in that case users need to know for sure that they have that specific device (e.g. NOT flashing Z5 compact to Z5) but the hassle is removed.
I believe I'm using the attached TWRP (it's 3.1.0 anyway),
and with that I could flash RR without problems
i will flash that TWRP again and try re-installing the ROM again
Still the same errorRIP

If you both read this thread thoroughly, you would both see that just a few posts up, a member solved this issue by updating their version of TWRP to a newer version. All you had to do was read before you posted.
Flash the newest version of TWRP for your device.

Thank you for that most helpful and enlightened answer. I would not be asking the question if I'd found the answer during an hour of searching. I have the most recent version of TWRP (3.2.3-0) freshly installed from the official website and I have this problem and I am unable to solve it regardless of how many times I reinstall the newest version, thanks.
Can anyone else provide some useful insight?
Device LeEco Pro 3 (zl1), Lineage-OS 16.0.
Thanks!

Apparently the 3.2.3-0 downloaded from the official website is NOT the most recent version. I downloaded the sources from the repo and built a version of TWRP for LeEco zl1 on my laptop. That version also identifies as 3.2.3-0, but it apparently is a bit more, because when I push it to my phone and install it, the error is GONE.
This is not the first time that building my own version of TWRP locally has fixed a problem.
Even with Newest version of TWRP i STiLL GET THE SAME ERROR

If you'll pardon the humor...
If you consider the universal balance theory, probably to counterbalance the number of dumbasses on XDA.
On a serious note, you may be having the same issue but yours has a different cause.

The following helped me out:
If you're upgrading from Oreo to Pie, the stock ROM (at least on OnePlus) has a file called "compatibility.zip" inside the zip of the stock ROM
If you have a mac or linux: Just do
Code:
zip -d [path to your stock ROM] "compatibility.zip"
for example
Code:
zip -d OnePlus5Oxygen_23_OTA_053_all_xx "compatibility.zip"
(don't forget the quotes)
If you have Windows, simply use MiExplorer to delete the file from the archive. Don't try unpacking/repacking the zip with native windows/mac.
Once you're done, boot into recovery, flash or sideload the stock ROM and the error should be resolved.

unable to install twrp over 3.1.1.1 on mi4c (trying to go from android 7.1 to 8 or 9)

Hey everyone,
i usually don't post questions but i've been on pretty much every forum the web has to offer and am still stuck so i'll try my luck here.
i'm currently running lineage 7.1 on my mi4c, i've used another phone for a while but now that my mi4c has a new battery i wanted to start using it again, is also decided this would be the time to update it to android oreo or pie, this however seems to be impossible.
i can only use twrp up to 3.1.1.1, all higher (and unofficial versions) will not boot via fastboot 'dtb not found' or when flashed via older twrp will freeze on boot screen.
whenever i try to install a new rom it tells me 'error code 7', when i remove the 'assert' lines in the update it gives me 'error code 6'
my device is unlocked, i have checked this in fastboot.
do i have to install miui again before installing another rom? do i have to go back to the standard recovery? i'm currently running out of ideas and hope you guys might be able to help me. maybe i'm overlooking something simple.
kind regards,
Monstreys
Hi! I don't know if this is a coincidence or not, but I was about to start a similar thread.
I try to do exactly what you are doing. I want to install LineageOS 16, unofficial ROM.
For this you need a newer TWRP, like 3.2.3.0, but it doesn't work 'dtb not found' like you said. I found out that this doesn't work because you need to have nougat bootloader. Most probably you have lollipop bootloader like I have, and thats why newer versions of TWRP are not working. I think the only way to update your bootloader to a nougat one is to flash the latest MIUI ROM. But, unfortunately, when you do that the bootloader gets locked, and I can't unlock it via MiUnlock due to Error:20091 when I try to link the phone to the Mi account. In MiUnlock it gives me the "this account cannot unlock the phone" or something like that.
Now I removed the "assert" lines from my rom and flashed it without the error 7 or 6. Some error still apears, but it also apears when I flash LineageOS 14.1, and that version is working even with those 2 errors I can't remember during flash.
After I flashed LineageOS, I flashed gapps and then superSU, and now my mi4c is stuck on mi logo for about 20 minutes, and I think it will remain that way.
So, there are 2 things we need to solve. We need to find a way to install latest MIUI without relocking the bootloader because I can't unlock it via MiUnlock, or to find out why after I flashed LineageOS 16 it gets stuck on MI logo.
I think I found the solution. Do exactly what this guy is doing here and it might work.

My MI4C has been successfully flushed into lineage-17.1-20200220-UNOFFICIAL-libra.zip. It has been updated on TWRP 3.1.1 and keeps reporting error 7, and then abandoned TWRP3.1.1 and flashed into OrangeFox-R10.0-1-Stable-libra.zip After brushing libra-aqua_firmware_7.2.9.zip on this REC, you can flash lineage-17.1. I do n’t think it will be impossible to refresh because of partition problems. If you only need to upgrade lineage-17.1, you can refer to this method.:good::good:(Translation is not easy to use)

There is a 3.2.x around. If you don't want to bother go in the zip, /META-INF/com/google/android/ and delete the first lines (the ones starting with "assert") from updater-script, save and flash again.
