RefurbishedV10 fingerprint/security issues after upgrading from lollipop to MM - AT&T LG V10

I've seen many threads about this issue originating because the apparent H900 model for some people turned out to be a different model somehow converted to look like this, and everyone had the exact same issues as me, namely
1. LG VPN has stopped working error
2. Fingerprint/security tab causes settings to crash
3. Attempting to uninstall apps causes instant soft reboot
Some folks mentioned fixing their phones by finding the actual model of their phone and flashing the correct firmware. But AFAIK, no flashing software allows flashing of a different model. And none of them was clear about the actual steps they did to fix it.
Since I'm on Marshmallow, I cannot root, and I cannot rollback to the firmware I had in my phone.
Can anyone please share how they fixed their phone or someone expert in the matter?
Warranty/Motherboard replacement are out of question for me.
Any help is appreciated.

Same here please somebody help.

Same, did you find a solution? :/

you can't get ota att outside USA becasue you need to be connected in ATT bridge or IDK but you can't the only way you can by KDZ or TOT FILES

Finally Found 1000% fix for all this type of issues. Security Menu to App Uninstall all-everything OK. Just need to flash an special modified firmware based on VS990 Hardware. The current Firmware version is Android 6.0.
NB: This is not for free and not for individual one. $150 will cost this type of firmware. So, this solution is for Service Personnel or Professional's only. Contact me for details on Skype or Gmail (rassel2k). Goodluck.

Too bad the price of the phone itself, 2nd hand (H900,H901,VS990,F600), is around $100 here.

Can't update from 5.0.1 to anything

Hi guys, 2 days ago I got this phone off-contract, and I can't update it. At start I filled it up with a bunch of software to check it out, and today I did a soft reset, as I read that it can't help if you can't get an android update and I wanted to get rid of all the stuff I installed.
Thing is, when I go to "check for updates", it says my device isn't registered. I tried 2 soft resets so far and no luck.
Any thoughts on "how to register"?
Thanks!
Register the IMEI by calling ATT (611). You should be able to do the same with its MVNOs too. You can only retrieve the OTA by using one of the two.
Also you can bypass the 24hr nonsense by calling customer service, then asking them to push it from their tech department.

Errr... I got it from a Cellphone shop here in Serbia, I'm not sure where they acquired it, or from which operator it is. How do I find out who I need to call/email or whatever?

My bad, I assumed you had the H950 (att logo on back). If you're using an international variant, which I believe is H959 the method is probably different.
Yeah, sorry I'm still not familiar with model number but it's an international version.
Any idea is welcome
EDIT: Seems it's a H955.

Nope, I never rooted the phone, never used low-level access on it. Just tried apps via Google play that don't require root. Even than the phone didn't want to update, and it still doesn't want to do it. I also installed LG PC Suite and tried to update the software via it, but it doesn't work either.

1. Unroot
2. You can use H950PR ROM or go official ATT route
3. There's a thread on PR / if you want ATT's 2 5.1.1 OTAs you'll need a gophone SIM ($2/day), ATT MVNO, or a friend's SIM
4. You can wait patiently for weeks or call 611 while using their network
5. Ask the rep to be transferred to tech support, then tell them you need an update pushed
6. They'll push it if they're knowledgeable, you'll get 11x
7. Repeat following day for 11z

Sure, no problem. If we don't get an answer and I still won't be able to get that update automaticly, is there a way to flash it with a newer version downloaded from xda?
You can flash the 5.1.1 kdz file.
Just to tell the end of the story, I returned my phone since it couldn't be updated to 5.1.1, I got a H-955A which didn't have any issues with that.

Updating unlocked s9+ (sm-g965u1)

Hi have the original US sprint version of the samsung s9+ which I had recently unlocked and unbranded from an unlocking service through team viewer. The model number is now SM-G965U1 and the baseband version is G965U1UEU3ARG7. I noticed on websites like sammobile that there are updates to this software for this phone model. When I click update software on the phone it states that I have the latest one. Is this normal or should it be able to update to later firmwares such as ARK5? I am using a t-mobile sim card in the phone currently. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OTA software updates are controlled by your carrier, in your case, it is T-Mobile.
If T-Mobile does not offer an update for SM-G965U1, you will not get a notification to update and it will not find any updates when you check for them.
But, if there are updates for that model number available to download from Sammobile, just download the firmware and flash it via Odin onto your device.
Note:
When the unlocking service unlocked your device, they might have only used a small part of the software from S-G965U1 and not the entire firmware because the entire firmware might not be compatible with the model that your device originally was.
For example, they may have only used the bootloader from SM-965U1 or only the system.img or only the modem.img or any combination but not the entire firmware, if this is the case, flashing the entire firmware might cause issues.
I would email the unlocking service and ask them if the entire SM-G965U1 firmware can be flashed or at least ask what files were used in the unlocking process and which parts of SM-G965U1 firmware are safe to use or not.

Hey thank you for your response. I just spoke with them and they said that the full software was used and that I would get OTA updates? Even if I do flash the firmware, am I able to jump to the latest firmware or do I have to flash all of the firmware in order to get to the latest one?

I don't think you understand how things work when it comes to updates on android devices. It isn't like a Windows PC where any and all new updates are offered/pushed via Windows Update to every device that has Windows installed.
OTA updates are controlled and offered by your carrier, you will only get the update if your carrier CHOOSES to offer the update to devices on their network.
Just because your device manufacturer has released an update, does not necessarily mean that your specific mobile carrier will offer it to their customers, some devices never receive updates from the carrier for "this" or "that" device whereas other carriers would offer the update to those devices.
It's all a matter of who your carrier is, not what device you have.
For example, Samsung could release an update for S9+, then "this" carrier could choose to offer the update to the S9+ devices on their network and they would be able to update via OTA update through system settings.
Or
Samsung could release an update for S9+ but "that" carrier could refuse to offer the OTA update to devices on their network. In this case, the device can still be updated by manually downloading the update via the internet and then manually flashing the update via Odin, instead of via OTA update through system settings.
To put this in perspective in comparison to a Windows PC vs android, if Windows Updates were handled the same way that android updates are handled.......
The way android updates are offered by your carrier, for Windows PC, the equivalent of this would be Microsoft offering Windows Updates but then the updates only being available based on who your internet service provider is. In this theoretical example, your internet service provider may or may not allow the update to be installed on your system. If your service provider doesn't allow the Windows Update to be installed through their network, you would have to manually download the update and install it yourself instead of using the Windows Update Service to install the update automatically.
Does this help you understand how the update system is handled when it comes to android updates?

Running RETUS on a MetroPCS Ocean device

Last night as part of rooting, I was getting issues with the MetroPCS Ocean firmware with the update failing message. I took a look at the RETUS firmwares and saw the latest so I took a chance and was able to flash the Retail version with no problems, booted up and 'worked out of the box' so to speak. It is also lighter on the features since it doesn't include the MetroPCS apps. I am not going to try rooting with this one, but it seems to be quite stable and an a little faster if that makes any sense.
Your mileage may vary!
You assume any risk by attempting the same thing on your device, but I figured it would be something someone would be interested in knowing.
I'm running MetroPCS software on a Amazon device
I'm running Cricket software on a MetroPCS device &
I'm running Amazon software on a MetroPCS device
Cons on both I've come across so far.
Cricket software on a MetroPCS device I get Boot screen says Bad key in top left corner before loading the device.
Amazon software on a MetroPCS device I get a Boot screen says untrusted device before loading the device.
Pros is they both work great.

Since you did that when you have the time, try to go back a lower build or your OG Build and check if you still have data and sim accses. I ask because (I have a RETUS) and since I flashed the latest one available "PPO29.114-108 May 1 Security Update" can't go back to OG Build it came with without losing data and sim detection. Something was updated in that build that even if you flash back it broke that. I even flashed the modem to check but no still no data or SIM detected at all. Only all fine in the most recent build.

Flashing a Carrier or Retail ROM won't ever unlock a Carrier Lock device. If it were that simple don't you think we will ever have this issue. Hell the term network lock won't even exist in a perfect world.

And yes there are several Motorola Devices that are firmware interchangeable. Been doing it since the first Moto X times. Only benefit from this procedure no bloatware and faster updates that's it. Oh and better performance since it doesn't include crappware

PSA. If you flsh Cricket, Metro etc Roth the RETUS Latest firmware you won't be able to go back to you LG firmware. That firmware updates the Bootloader and that preventa going back to a lower workifn version. You can doing what I posted earlier by while flashing back to OG Firmware skip flashing modem and fsg bins and don't execute the modem erase commands.

Ok I bricked my phone via magisk update, I was on MetroPCS variant of Ocean firmware. Now I manually flashed RETUS PPO 29.114-108; It seems to be running fine other than saying my device is not certified....is there a custom recovery that will work for Ocean RETUS using twrp? Should I try to re root using magisk systemless-ly copying boot.img? Thanks for info and any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I'd like to know as well, I got 2 of these Moto G Power 7's from Metro PCS and would love a stock ROM without all the metro bloat. Not sure on Metro's unlocking policy if they will unlock it and what bands this all has if it has CDMA or is it GSM only?

You probably won't find one cheaper. $10 ones are ones that give you a code to unlock. Unlocking a MetroPCS/TMO G7Power with the Server unlock app requires a person to remotely connect to your phone and edit your NV files. Currently they are changing the imei to a different model phone that they can generate the unlock codes for. Since they are using a different model phone imei, activating on Sprint Network could be an issue since Sprint is picky as to what phones they put on their network.
If I flash "retail" firmware on a TMO Sim locked Moto G7 power will it ask me for an unlock code that I don't have? Bought it on eBay and TMO says its eligible to unlock but refuses because I'm not the original owner. Bootloader is unlocked.
EDIT: Figured out my issue. Was my fault. Flashed the RETAILUS firmware on my MetroPCS model.
Thanks OP!
Also to add to this, the Metro model is NOT supposed to be compitable with Verizon due to lack of CDMA.... Well Magically the phone now supports CDMA so it has a CDMA radio in it!

G955U is using G9550 model version

Hi respected members, I'm new here and I need your valuable assistance .
I bought S8+ and when I checked the model version in software it is showing SM-G9550 which is Chinese version not Hong Kong, but on the back of phone G955U is mentioned. For more confirmation I compared the IMEI and serial number which are mentioned on the back of phone and also showing in software information in about phone. IMEI and SN are same in about phone and on back side of phone. I also checked the carrier in downloading mode (after pressing Volume down + Bixby + Power Buttons) and carrier is VZW which is Verizon if I'm not wrong.
I'm foreigner in China and current Chinese version is creating problem in phone that no any update (current is 7.0) for my S8+ software and the latest security patch is 2017, some APPs like Facebook and Whatsapp don't show any notification etc.
I already used Hong Kong firmware in my GalaxyS7 Edge which works perfect and also have Google APPs, but Chinese version don't have Google APPs, and there is no any play store library. To solve this problem, I tried to install Hong Kong based firmware (9.0) but Odin shows error that can't create partition, after reading about this problem it seems that firmware is not compatible with current hardware.
So I want to ask these questions!
1: How I can install Hong Kong firmware in current situation or if I install G955U then will it work in China? and from where I can get unlocked firmware because I'm unable to find unlocked firmware. Reference (https://firmwarex.net/samsung-s8-sm-g955u-9-0-official-firmware/), from this link which will work in my phone?
2: If I used PIT file to install Hong Kong version then is there any security problem or my phone will work well?
3: I'm unable to find PIT file for my current problem. I also need PIT file if first option will not work.
Sorry for too long explanation.
Need your kind suggestions. Thanking you in anticipation.
My problem is seems to be same as https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/help/g955u-using-g9550-firmware-t3766862
Problem solved
I have solved my problem. As mentioned in my question G955U model is using G9550 because processor is same but RAM and storage is different.
I downloaded G955U1 from SamFirm and installed it. Working fine now.
I used this phone in China and Pakistan. The main problem in G9550 I was facing, it was 4G signals strength that were very weak in China and 3G was not working but in Pakistan 3G was working fine but no 4G signal on same phone. May be that was due to different bands. But now after installing G955U1 the LTE signal strength is very strong even better than iPhone X.
Still I'm searching about it that how anyone installed G9550 in G955U as I also tried latest G9550 on same phone but I was failed.

These guys will cross match the csc files to include carrier features for other country's. You can't out right install the 9550 firmware but can add bits of the csc to it. I've seen a bunch of "mutt" frankensteined devices. But don't like to get involved because stuff can go wrong real quick

Agree with you. I want to add bit more that G955U is 4GB RAM and 64GB Storage but G9550 is 6GB and 128GB. Obliviously firmware check the right configuration. As per my knowledge that we need to provide right BL (Boot loader) file. I mean BL file from G955U but other files from G9550. May be I'm wrong because I didn't try for it.
My problem is seems to be same as https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/help/g955u-using-g9550-firmware-t3766862

i have a similar problem too. i have a sm-g995u, i know because it is written on the back of the phone and also in the software info menu. however when i get into the AP and CSC values it says my phone is sm-9550. im currently suffering from poor network and i've currently lost signal. i mean my phone has been displaying "no service" for the past 2 days. I'm currently considering flashing another firmware but scared not to brick my device since i am a newbie with all this stuff.
my device is originally a g995u, if i flash a g995u1 firmware would it work?
what g995u1 firmware did you flash? i need help asap, ive been offline for a while because of "no signal" problem.

Yes you can install G995U1 in your phone. In my case I was also facing poor network issue, no phone call history and no live location for maps but after installing the G955U1, everything is working fine.

thanks man. i was able to flash the G995u1 firmware. However, my problem still remains, i still have no access to network. i cant seem to toggle or change network mode. its stuck on LTE/3G/2G, i suspect when i was on the road the connection to the lte was lost and failed to switch to the 3G. i see alot of people have similar issues.
i sincerely hope it is not a hardware issue like a roasted network chip...
sorry i cant use wechat because i have formated my phone. Kindly recommend any possible solutions please.

These guys will cross match the csc files to include carrier features for other country's. You can't out right install the 9550 firmware but can add bits of the csc to it. I've seen a bunch of "mutt" frankensteined devices. But don't like to get involved because stuff can go wrong real quick

It seems that there is problem with your network chip but yeah you should make sure that your phone hardware is based on G955U. G955U (USA version) and G9550 (Chinese or HongKong version) have same processor. As I already told you that my phone hardware was G955U (Verizon version) but G9550 firmware was installed because I bought it from China. I was facing many problems like slow speed, no live tracking of location using any navigation app, no call history and poor network coverage. After checking the phone I came to know that originally phone is G955U, you should also double check your phone version especially in downloading mode. After all I installed G955U1 (unlocked version) then everything works well. If your problem is same then G955U1 should work well. I installed Android 9 version.
Furthermore if you will try to install other versions like F (Global version) then obviously you will face other problems too.

Question Change SM-F711U1 Region to Japan

Hi all,
All pay features and such are locked to local firmware and I'm wondering if I can just flash the Japanese variant firmware onto my SM-F711U1 using Frija. I'd rather not have bloatware but I want to be able to use G Pay. I can't without the Osaifu-Keitai app and that will not install on my variant.
If there is anyone that knows how to installOsaifu-Keitai on an international phone, that would solve all my problems.
It has been a very long time since I flashed anything and I'm a little rusty/lost. I couldn't even find the bloody search bar for this forum section! Forgive my ignorance.
You could side load the apk
https://m.apkpure.com/%E3%81%8A%E3%82%B5%E3%82%A4%E3%83%95%E3%82%B1%E3%83%BC%E3%82%BF%E3%82%A4-%E3%82%A2%E3%83%97%E3%83%AA/com.felicanetworks.mfm.main/versions
Thanks, but I tried sideloading it and the application just failed to open, saying that it is incompatible with the device.
For anyone else that ever looks to solve this in the future, it seems that there is a hardware limitation and a specific chip for Japan's implementation of NFC for payments. Either the chip is disabled or missing from other variants. It could be just a software check that stops the app from running, but I cannot find the Japanese firmware to flash at the moment, and not sure I want to brick my phone if the actual hardware is different. I might try once the firmware becomes available.
If it helps (not really) but US devices dont support non US firmwares, even if they share the same hw, so you wouldnt be able to flash JP firmware anyway
Do however note you can use samfirm patched to download the JP firmware

The answer lies within the differences in HW between US and non-US versions of the same phone model, namely, US version is "missing" MST technology. More on this topic here:
https://www.samsung.com/global/galaxy/what-is/mst/
Therefore, you cannot simply flash US version phone with non-US firmware, as Odin (Frija only used to download firmware) will not allow you, even patched version. It will simply fail during the installation phase and in the worst case scenario you will get a $1000 paperweight (read brick).
