Galaxy S6 -> S8 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions & Answers

Hi all,
I am coming up on the end of my S6 lease. It seems I might as well upgrade given I'd have to pay $18/month, or $200 (not worth it) to buy it.
Has anyone else made the adjustment from an S6? Here are my specifics questions:
- I currently use Titanium Backup to transfer apps and data. Without root on the S8, how else is this possible? Or can TB do this without root to some degree?
- Is Magisk a solution to "root" the Sprint S8? I saw some other website posts about doing this, but wasn't sure if it applied or proven to work.
- Yep, I guess I'll need to get a bunch of USB-A to USB-C charging cables to use with my Anker batteries.
- I saw some companies now have curved tempered glass screen protectors. Any recommendations or thoughts here? I typically use BodyGaurdz or ZAGG.

Anyone?

as for protective glass use Whitestone!

Anyone else annoyed about the lack of included wireless charging?

I'd probably never use it, but to sell a $40 nickel and dime add on for something that would probably cost less than $2 in material costs on a $900 phone kind of rubs me the wrong way.
Ok. I'll move on.

I am with you... I actually considered not getting the edge and that was a big reason. I guess I'll just divert money away from holiday gifts so I can buy the additional kit. Smh
I am with you on this, Really have a hard time calling this a flagship phone with this kind of nickel and dime stuff!
On top of that they don't even make it available until who knows when.
I noticed the note 4 and the edge have similar back/batteries. I would if a note 4 qi receiver would work on the Edge?

I just went and bought a note 4 receiver. They don't cost much so why not try one. Will report the results when it gets here.

That's what I was wondering -
I saw this (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/351204499918?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649) and thought that if the internals are the same then it might also be used - at significantly less cost than the official version.
Can anyone take a photo of the Note Edge with the back cover removed for comparison?
If no one else does, I will get a picture this afternoon when mine comes in....
Disregard my earlier request - found pics online.
Appears the short answer is no.

Looks like the top row of connectors are vertically oriented on the Note4 but horizontal on the Note Edge.
The "L" shape for the connectors to the side of the battery are an "L" shape for the edge and reversed for the Note4 "_|"
Furthermore, the spacing from the battery looks a little different.
Depending on the actual charging receiver maybe one could bend it around to suit but it's not something I'd be keen to do personally.
As an aside, looking at the official wireless receiver/back - is the coil just under the metal plate or does it have a larger, hidden surface area? Some Qi hacks I've seen put the coil at the bottom of the phone - which makes it look like you need to carefully position your phone on the plate for the charge to kick in. (i.e. Hanging off the side of the plate so the charger / receiver are aligned)
Maybe there'll be a low cost alternative like the Note4 receiver (eBay link) in a few weeks. Until then, I guess I'm fine with charging via MicroUSB.
Give it a few more days. There will be one soon. LoL

Check this link out. Just ordered one and when it arrives I will update further. Just could not do without wireless after having it on my Note 3 for so long!

Ouch. $19 shipping? I sent packages out next day air for less than that.
I have never seen a phone include a wireless charger before. I doubt it will be something that phones will come with, unless you cant remove the battery back.
It would just up the cost of the device more and a ton of people dont even know you can charge wiresless with a kitl

Yea same thing.
You can add a wireless back to change it wireless.
I haven't seen any phones come with one unless you can't remove the battery.
$60 for this? No, I'll wait to be released in US on Samsung and use their 50% off on accessaries received after registering product

It isn't the same thing, but ok.
I'm not a big fan of the current wireless charging technologies. Anything that makes a device warm or hot from lost energy is not an ideal solution. I'll stay old-school and plug in.

Any new updates ?
hopefully the next galaxy series will include built in wireless charging and they will continue the concept in all future flagships. i think the nexus 6 came with it already built in didn't it? i don't understand why samsung can't put it on there instead of making you buy extra battery covers

Wireless charger recommendations?

I'm looking at this one, http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Compatible-Blackberry-SlimPWRcard-Qi-enabled/dp/B00DQDE1K8. I'd rather not pay $50 for the Samsung charger. Does anyone have experience with this one, or have any other recommendations?
I have this one, and really like it.

Personally, I'm not a fan of single coil chargers like this one. I've always ended up spending more time than I would like trying to line the device up correctly, which seems to defeat the point of convenience. Triple coil chargers are really the way to go, but they're going to run you quite a bit more. I just picked up a Qi-infinity Folding Wireless Dock and have been quite happy with it (that is, after I plugged it into a properly sized wall plug lol) so far, but that's definitely hitting that $50 price point.

I'm using this one and I'm quite happy. 3 Coil is the way to go.

Wow, and only $10. It's a shame they didn't update it for the newer iPhones. My daughter as a newer iPhone, and it would be perfect if we both could use this. I'm going to order one anyway.
I made this thread about the Samsung charger, but there are other recommendations in it.
Also it should be kept in mind that you should be able to get 50% off the Samsung charger by registering your S6, so it'd actually be $25.

Where did you get your discount? I already registered and I haven't seen anything. Thanks!
I just registered my device when it asked during setup and they e-mailed me the code. Unfortunately it's only 30% off now apparently -_-
I got my Galaxy S6 on the 9th April and I purchased the standard Samsung S Charging Pad from the store too... It works great with a case on... I had a few issues with the charger as it approached 100% it kept disconnecting and reconnecting but nonetheless it's great! It takes 170 minutes to fully charge.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Case Wireless Charging Battery Cover (OEM or After market)

Hey all,
Starting a new thread on this, since the other one is several months old.
Does anyone know of where the S5 Wireless cover can be found where it isn't over priced (i.e. $100)? I'm looking to get the feature, as my charge port is acting funny w/ a lose connection to charging cables.
If not the OEM Samsung version, does anyone know of a decent After Market version that still keeps the waterproof capability. I've seen one on Amazon that doesn't have the waterproof gasket, but no luck anywhere else.
TIA.

How about:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA7142E95226
And, by the way, the S5 is NOT waterproof, it is water resistant, big difference...
I don't think that one is for the S5. The contacts for the battery don't match the battery pattern. Thanks for looking though.
Understood not waterproof. Just a lack of brain power to write resistant last night..
ME TOO!!!
I've been searching myself for years now, can't figure out why the hell they still cost so much, I'm still not sure I wanna pay $30 + shipping for one directly from Samsung/usa (but they aren't cheaper anywhere else!)
But anyhow... I haven't tried this myself but you could have a look getting at a Qi standard wireless receiver. I don't go on Amazon much, but there's a lot of them on Ebay.
Installed the following last week on my S5, couldn't be happier.
BestFire® Ultra-thin QI Wireless Charging Charger Receiver For Samsung (S5)

* NOTE... Images aren't for the S5. Unit shipped actually has 3 contact pins, which we need.
Fits well and seals with stock battery door. Slight center bump, but hardly noticeable especially with a protective case on. Using mine with a Samsung wireless charger.

How is the performance of the wireless charging battery cover? Did it work?

Wallet Case + Wireless Charging

Hey everyone. Has anybody found a wallet case that also allows wireless charging? I know there are strict limitations on what the wireless charge signal can go through and how far it travels, but as I elected to get the wireless charges for my accessory, I'm wondering if anybody has had success in the past?

No wallet cases to fit, and wireless charging don't work on 3 year old devices, including the Note 8.0.
Turns out the Samsung LCD Wallet case with a card in the front, along with a drivers license and a $20 behind the phone will still wirelessly charge on the Samsung Wireless Charger Convertible.

Not with our devices it will. Don't post if it does not pertain to our devices, else somebody will expect it to work or break something.

Yes, it does work with our devices. I've got my Note 8 sitting in the official LED Wallet case on the wireless charger, with a drivers license and a $20 between the phone and the wireless charger, and it's fast charging. No need to be such a naysayer. Do you have the same case and wireless charger, and are not able to wirelessly charge?
Ah, I see why you said what you did, this XDA forum is for the Note 8 tablet. So confusing on Samsung's part. I gotta switch to the correct Note 8 forum. Looks like everyone else is flooding the tablet forum with posts for the phone too.
I have this clear view thing with stand incorporated.
It works fine with the wireless charger.
But, because of the fact that you mostly put the cover backwards, no fingerprint is possible.
The finger printscanner is really badly located, coming from a Note 5.
60 euro down the drain. For now all my banking apps use pincode.
I think I will buy a bumper when available.

Spigen wallet case works with 3 non embossed cards (drivers license, ID, and non embossed non NFC credit card), paper, and a bill inside case. <very awkward design but still what I use for the convenience.
"insert URL here" cause XDA is dumb AF
the generic leather 2 pocket on back works with DL, CC, PAPER, BILL << awkward when setting on charger because of the overlap of cards, definitely makes a sweet spot.

Galaxy Buds Charging Case

So maybe not the best place to ask this but giving it a shot. Lost the charging case to my Galaxy buds that came with the pre-order, obviously can't charge them anymore. I called Samsung to which they said the case was available to purchase separately, but when they transferred me over to the sales dpt they said it wasn't. Dug around on the internet and one reddit forum listed a website that has it for sale by they're oos with no eta, so was wondering if anyone else had any luck with finding a replacement case. I use these for my motorcycle for navigation and such.
