I love my MX Player Pro and also use it for my 3 year old son so he can watch movies and tv shows. The only thing I would like to change is the ability to change how the thumbnail for the video is created. Right now it seems that it is a screenshot at a certain time interval.
The problem is that TV series from one show will all have the same thumbnail which is somewhere from the intro. That way my son can't distinguish between the different episodes.
Is it possible to change the way MX Player creates the thumbnails see for instance take a screen halfway through the video?

+1 for this request. Almost all of my kid's thumbnails are of the Disney castle intro
I've switched from MX player pro to VLC beta for the time being. The thumbnails there seem to be generated further into the video.
MX Player custom thumbnails resolution and type
Hi,
I tried some formats for thumbnails (principally for fastest thumbnail generation when MX loading thumbnails preview) - PNG and JPG files, all was ok, but some thumbnails was not accepted by MX Player or thumbnails was generated slowly, then I have simple question - what is recomended resolution and file type for thumbnail? I tested FILE.jpg/png (for video FILE.mkv etc.) with custom resolution (1280x720, 960x540, 640x360), but I dont know what resolution for custom thumbnails is recomended.
Thank you so much for answer, target device has display with resolution 1920x1080p.

Hi,
MX Player automatically generates the thumbnails based on the display resolution. If you are facing any issues with the thumbnail generation or loading, please provide us with more information so that we can assist you further.
MX Player custom thumbnails resolution and type
Thank you, can I generate my own thumbnails, respectively for target device which is TV (landscape 1920x1080p) is recomended what resolution for thumbnails and format (jpg or png or bmp etc.? - what is more recomended)? Thanks, I bought MX PRO and using in TV free version (because TV system have some restrictions).
I prefering own thumbnails, because generating by MX is slow one by one, I dont know, why MX does not using multicore thumbnails creating, but for me is this system slow and unsatisfactory, even if device have more cores - ignored by MX for thumbnails as I wrote. Thanks for help.

Is there any application for resizing videos that I capture with my camera ?
(on the device itself, without copying the file to my PC)
none existing?
I don't want to believe that there is no application to rescale videos. I need it for attaching videos to emails/mms.
Is there really no application ?

i m looking for similar app as well.
my video format is mp4.
thanks
Search for Vidcon on play store. It's the best so far. It can resize your video to mms size in .3gp format. The paid version has ability to manually pick your output video size and format.

Hi there,
I would like to have movies played on my HD2, but somehow I just don't get it right.
I've searched the internet as well as this forum for the right video converter that would show my movies on my HD2 (together with the subtitles as they are in the original movie) in full screen. I'm stuck...
Could anyone please help me out here? When I check a link, that is mentioned in the forum, I get a thousand others. To me, it's all very confusing... To which format should I convert a movie to have it shown on my HD2 in full screen? What player should I use on my HD2? Would it be possible to (de)activate the subtitles in that player? For instance, I've converted the movie "SALT" to my HD2, but the movie is NOT in full screen, and it's subtitles are gone...
I'm way open to suggestions.
Thanking you in advance!!
Robert
The best player... pretty much the ONLY movie player worth bothering with on windows mobile... is coreplayer. The cab I use is attached.
Coreplayer can fullscreen, but you may need to play with aspect ratio settings to make it take up the entire screen (as the movie will often fill the width of the screen, but won't fill the height... doing so would make everyone look tall and thin, or you'd have to crop the left and right sides of the movie).
Here's a thread with the info on subtitles.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-345995.html
I guess there's a subtitle plugin for coreplayer that you must download separately, but it doesn't take popular subtitle formats. So you must convert the subtitle to a format that coreplayer likes (on your PC) first. The movie itself may or may not need to be converted depending on the format. Core plays most things without the need for conversion, but some types (not all) of mp4 or mkv won't play without conversion. Also you'll need to convert if the movie is true high-def. A 720p or 1080p isn't going to play smoothly on the phone, but something like 720 x 304 will play fine.
Hi,
I have some sub/idx subtitle files created for 720p videos and when I load them on 1080p video, they are too big, so I edited .idx file
from
Code:
# Original frame size
size: 1280x720
# Origin, relative to the upper-left corner, can be overloaded by aligment
org: 0, 0
to
Code:
# Original frame size
size: [COLOR="Red"]1920x1080[/COLOR]
# Origin, relative to the upper-left corner, can be overloaded by aligment
org: [COLOR="red"]640, 360[/COLOR]
The results are.. like this.
So font size got smaller and looks really good on 1080p, but mx players doesn't seem to read the position part. It still displays on the left of the screen even though I edited it.
On my pc, I checked that the video player I use (potplayer) shows the subtitles on the correct position(bottom-center) with the edited idx file.
Could you please look into this issue?
Thanks in advance.

Can you share the original & edited subs?
Generally, MX Player automatically scales when there is a resolution change.

When the 720p subtitle is loaded on 1080p, I think it should be scaled down, when full screen, to be shown as the same size as the one on 720p. However, the font size gets bigger on 1080p. And this isn't just mx player though. I think that's how all the video player works with the .sub file. And not reading the position part in .idx file is not only mx player but also vlc and kodi as a matter of fact. On PC, I tested only Potplayer and it worked well with the edited .idx file.
Hope MX player does as well.
Attached .sub files in both zip files are the same and I edited just .idx file in "1080p.zip".
Thanks.

Hi,
Basically, vobsub is a bitmap based subtitle format. So, the trick you have used is not supported by the most of the vobsub renderers. We have checked some other players as well. The behaviour is same. If your intention is just to reduce the size, MX Player already has an option for you. Open menu > Subtitle > settings & Reduce the scale. It will scale down the subtitle sizes of bitmap based subtitles.

Thank you so much!
I didn't notice there's a scale option in the settings. I always used the size option for .srt files so when it made no difference with .sub file, I tried to edit the .idx file.
The scale option works perfectly. Thanks again!
Hi everyone! I'm having a problem when I try to zoom in any video to fill the screen and eliminate the black bars on movies for example. I'm only getting a stretched video, not being able to get a proper uniform zoom, except when I select the software decoder. The problem is that some 4K videos can't be played smoothly on SW mode and also I lose the audio passthrough. I know this was once mentioned possibly as a hardware limitation, am I right?? I'm using the app on a TV with Android TV 6. The reported hardware SoC is a MediaTek MT5891 (Mali T-860 GPU). Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!
C'mon guys, at least tell me there's nothing you can do about it!

Yes, It looks like a hardware feature of the TV Boxes. MX Just uses android APIs. It doesn't work properly once any one of the sides reaches the screen limit & starts stretching when you zoom more. In our internal tests, Mi Box used to have similar issues. But, there are no such issues after Oreo update Zoom works properly on all three decoders.

Thanks man! I've got a pending update from Android TV 6 to 7 so, maybe it'll work with it.
Hi everyone.
This may be a solution.
I get to realise that this thread has a long history and there is no proper answer.
I too had the same problem while using MX player in Android tv. But some video are able to crop view. After many thoughts I get to realise that there are two kind of popular encoding in mkv format.
Videos encoded in H.264 have no problem. But if it is H.265 commonly known as HEVC it will no crop or zoom in.
I currently use H.264 video for maximum use of my tv screen.
Please Google these encoding method for better understanding. There are some interesting comparison between two.
Happy watching

Hi,
I just bought a Philips 32PFS6402 Android TV (version QM164E.).16.102.24).
Unfortunately the default video player, didn't have the possibility to adjust the subtitles, so I had to look for alternatives. Your MX player was highly recommended and the features I was looking for seems to be in place (remember where you stopped a video stored on USB and continue from that point on the next time. And adjust the timing of the subtitles while playing the video.)
so far so good. But unfortunately, not all video's are shown correctly. For some video's I only see a black screen. There is audio and ther are subtitles, but the screen stays black.
The codec info for the specific file:
MPEG-4 Video (XVID)
1920*800
Strange thing is, I can play the same movie using the default player.
Any suggestions?
thanks in advance,
Matthijs

First of all, thanks for your reaction. How do I collect a bug report? I didn't see any options for that.
For you info. I tried Kodi today as well and experienced the same problems. No video image, while there is sound and there are subtitles. I find it to be very strange, since the same movie does play in the default player (no idea which one that is).
Today the movie I tested yesterday on MX Player, resulted in some kind of freeze. no response what so ever.
thanks,
Matthijs

Based on the information you have shared, it seems that your device's hardware-accelerated decoders are buggy or broken. Request you to tap on the HW button on the playback screen and check other decoders. It may work for you.
