OTG drive _not_ mounting - HTC U11 Questions & Answers

On my new, U11, w/BL still locked, & still unrooted, I connected an OnTheGo (OTG) cable & a thumdrive.
My file mgr of choice, Solid Explorer, *did* 'see' the dir structure & pix I had in my "Fotos" subdir off the root of thumbdrive; but “Google Photos" did NOT see it as a 'Mounted' drive. Why isn't the drive mounted? is it a OS thing, or an HTC thing, or a hardware/driver thing?
This further complicates the lack of the old Gallery app's folder/album based presentation style (fotogs mostly use 'Event' or 'Location' based organization in Lightroom… & BTW, any substitute Gallery-like apps out there? w/preferably on-microSD-Based storage, or on-device storage that uses folder/album based presentation style? Sugestions will be much appreciated). TIA oldwolf

Hey, I love QuickPic, use it since 2013. Minimalistic yet powerful.
My pendrive doesn't get mounted to the filesystem either as far as I can find (I'm unrooted as well). However, I can open pictures from Total Commander from the pendrive, although only one at the time - see attached screens for path in QuickPic. Google Photos opens it even from the "Downloads" native file explorer, one at the time as well, but I don't like the app.

Just updated software version to 1.13.651.6 & I discovered that the USB icon in the notification bar can be cloioked to show an Eject button, you have to wait on it to start working; but it does work! Solid Explorer also 'sees' a usb device.
So we have some progress fm HTC.
HTH, diff. 'flavors of the device' have diff update s/w versions. I have a U11 bought fm Sprint… so be aware when you see threads that talk abt single & double SIM card devices. I have a SIM card that is in the slot in the tray closest to the motherboard & the mioroSD goes into the top slot, but I'@ not sure bc I heard somewhere that another SIM card could be placed in the topmost tray slot. So if anyone knows please let me know- TIA, oldwolf

Our Sprint version only has one SIM card and micro-sdcard tray. The dual SIM card version has two options 2 SIM Cards or one SIM card and micro-sdcard. It is not that confusing. We pretty much all know there are different updates and software version, easiest to specify you device info when starting a thread, and I see you started a few threads already.

Thanks for the tip, I just started w/Sprint after 14yrs w/Verizon. Went to take advantage of better prices; but the "experts " in the Sprint 'Tech Experts' chat app have been found wanting in ways that have impacted my experience. I got this phone to switch & paid up front to have flexibility ea. month & not have to pay installments & I've been distracted - I am tech savvy w/computers & computer networks having taught for Novell's edu-channel & therefore I know about explaining tech support issues & it hasn't been fun. I'll try to keep to your correction.
In the Unlocking Bootloader thread there is a whole list of fone flavors &sthe corresponding updates. Guess I was confused. I had to go searching around the 'net & HTC's site to get the U11 User manual.
I'd've hoped HTC would've made it easier to find, or put the link in the Quick Start notes in the original box. Oh well. XDA folks are helpful…

HTCDEV will have all the instructions to unlock bootloader, TWRP thread will guide you to install the recovery and since you are on Sprint, save this thread for Firmware updates and if you like the ROM Here
I just tried connecting an USB Sandisk drive to test OTG. Using the native file manager, it sees the flash drive. I formatted it, I can transfer or copy files to and from it, however only from Internal Storage and not External. I have Solid Explorer as well. The only problem is both Root Explorer and Solid Explorer the flash drive doesn't show up. Where exactly do you see the flash drive in Solid Explorer? Not really an issue as in TWRP I can transfer and copy files from the Internal and External Storage to the flash drive no problem.

MultiSim - Dual-Sim-Card Manager

Hello everyone else who uses more than one sim card with your android phone. I've created something really useful for us!
MultiSim
Application is available in English, German, Chinese (thx Yujie) and French (thx Vincent).

Icons can be changed or hidden for easier distinguishing. Dual-sim-adapter users can switch their sim cards with the included Widget. HyperCard 3G, MagicSim 3G (in 007 Mode) and analog adapters are supported.
Download in Android Market if you're interessed and give me some feedback here!
Special Deal: I managed to negotiate a special deal for anyone interested in buying a HyperCard 3G: € 15 discount! Simply use the App to get your coupon code.
Download from Market (recommended for auto-update) or as an attachment from this post.

Hi,
Will this application work also with the DSTL1 (which has dual simultaneour sim cards)
if someone can get me one to test it on, I can get it to work
check here:
http://generalmobile.com/index.asp?action=Android_Phones/DSTL1_support
It is actually made in China and you can get one for about 200 EUR including delivery. Comes with donut and two sim cards working at once.
You can define which ones for data or voice at will
well, if i'd request money for the tool I'd probably get one for testing, but with free software, i don't think I can afford that
you are absolutely right, you could try asking the General Mobile guys for a free sample so you can do some coding? They are really sweet phones.
Also on the side I have looked for an app that acts as a dropbear (ssh server) gui
it simply needs checks if the dropbear process is running
and if it is running, kill it
ELSE run as root /system/bin/dropbee
(dropbee is a script I wrote that launches dropbear with all the appropriate
parameters)
I can give you the sh scripts and dropbear binaries if you want to put together an .apk?
do you guys have a DSTL1? I thought about it and don't see why someone would use my tool on that phone as it is a real dual sim phone where both sims can be used at the same time. Am I missing something?
Yes I have one.
Well, it would still be nice to know what 2 sim cards you have in at any given time...

Does it work on android 2.1 or 2.2 and what multisim adaptor should I buy for the Nexus One to work perfect.
BTW. Thanks for the APP.
any further news..looking to use on my desire?
Nice app, thanks. Works fine on Nexus One on 2.2.
Ok, i did decompile the version 1.1 to change the icon set (bad trick, just changing ressourses without taking care of the name), and i've also done a french translation of it.
So here is the string.xml and icon set I've used just in case you want to use it for next release
EDIT : For those interested, here is the rebuilt apk...
App for TWIN card by Vodafone
chineseleper, Can I use your program in a TWIN SIM by Vodafone?.
A TWIN SIM card is the original Vodafone card with 2 numbers inside it. The problem with the new ones is that It has only one password and therefore I can´t select the line with the password switching on and off the phone (like olders twin sim)
There is an app by vodafone called stk.apk but It is not available on android phones, like my Nexus One. I have tried to install it in system/app but I couldn´t.
Thanks in advance,

EDIT:Hey Guys, I'm finishing off the final version of StorageEther 2 that will go on the android market, I would appreciate if you guys could test it for me please, try all the storage devices, it should auto-detect the plug-in and removal of storage devices, but it may not because Asus may have used custom intent, if so, please get me logcats of those intents so I can add them. There is a widget especially for your transformer which should show all possible devices you an plug in, including the dock ones. If there are any problems, reply here and I'll try fix any reported problems before release. If you can get hold of anyone with an Iconia or a GT10.1, please get them to try it too.

Great app. The ui looks brilliant.
It seems to be looking at /Removable for the external storage which reports the 12gb of internal storage. It needs to be checking /Removable/MicroSD on the transformer.
Looking forward to an update!
Force closes everytime I click on external storage
@bwcorvus: Thanks.
@The-Kevster: I will upload an edit in a moment, are you availablesomewhere else so I can get you to test it for me before I release?
@tcjaym: Can you get me a logcat please, or atleast tell me which storage devices you have connected/inserted.
@all: Why can't I multiquote in FF4 on XDA? PITA.
Don't know what logcat is sorry but my external storage would be my my micro sd
seems to be fixed now as its showing /Removable /MicroSD

Hey,
thanks for this nice widget! I just downloaded and installed it, looks great.
Little problem here on my transformer with prime 1.7: MicroSD shows as not present (though it is of course)!
And something for future tweaking maybe: would be nice if one could choose which devices should be displayed. For me e.g. SD, USB 1 and 2 aren't of any manner for me, so it would be nice to disable them. Oh,and how do I edit the color?
edit: I'm newbie so I don't know yet how to create logcats, sorry..
I really like this widget, it's very stylish. Is it possible to hide an item rather than show "Not present"?
Are you planning to add a ram indicator?
I was excited about this widget, looks nice, but showing MicroSD not present here.

you'll have to let me know where your microsd mount point is if it's not detected at the standard place.
As for colours you select them on the widget configure screen.
In terms of the widget items, its possible i could make.a widget with just the key items.
just installed it and it looks nice , but it doesn't read my sd card , maybe it's because my transformer is encrypted ?!

That seems to be the same location as before, I have made no changes in that respect, same goes here, is it in the app, the widget, or both where it doesn't show? I'll get onto it after work tonight.

Do you have the others connected? They will only show up when connected. As for the microSD, I'll have to take a look tonight when I get home from work, but if the mount point hasn't changed (and the SD isn't empty) it should show up.
Note: it probably won't display your microSD if it's empty.
How many of you who's microSD doens't work have encrypted your TFs?
There is nothing connected to my transformer except the external microSD which isn't empty. The pad isn't encrypted as far as I know and as long prime v1.7 didn't do that for me
Really great looking widget... thanks

Neverending series of problems

I am almost getting to the point of blowing this entire thing off out of pure RAGE. WARNING: LONG POST AHEAD!
Now where to start...
My LG Optimus V via Virgin Mobile has been having every problem in the book lately. I have retrieved a new one from Virgin itself, so that should take care of the problems with calling and whatnot.
However, there are a few pretty major problems with the old one. Okay, QUITE a few.
Here is a list of my old phone's problems:
SD card slot will not read anything
Phone will not connect to computer via USB
Phone's Bluetooth is not recognized by computer ("Unable to get Bluetooth FTP Remote Folder content. Please check that your device is turned on and working properly.")
Phone will at times say my memory is almost full when at other times it says there are 8 more megabytes left
Phone's keypad will disappear in-call and will not return, making it impossible to check voicemail or dial extensions
I have installed the drivers direct from LG. I have tried booting in recovery. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling those drivers. I have tried booting/rebooting with all kinds of random patterns to the point that my headache has amplified. I have tried to hack the connection settings with an SQLite app. I don't even see an option for USB connections except debug mode. I have tried Bluetooth through Total Commander. Absolutely nothing I find is working to get me anywhere.
For the record: My computer is an ASUS laptop with an i7 processor and Windows 7. I have tried this same USB cord with my previous phone (a Samsung Captivate that also has issues) and it works fine. Also, my phone charges through the USB port, but it isn't recognized by my computer.
Given this entire list of problems, there are a few things that are suddenly becoming impossible to do since the backup routes are blocked off. Firstly, I want to transfer my data to my new phone so it's like nothing happened. Now, this is more a "want" than "need" but it certainly would be nice. Therefore, I need to get my USB setup working. I have Googled extensively for answers... and haven't found any that work. Which is ridiculous because I feel like I'm in an extreme minority... because the answers are working for others.
Eventually, I unpack ADB and...

}
Great. Just bleeping great.
Second, I need to unroot my phone before sending it to Virgin. I don't want to get in trouble with them. So once I have my data backed up, I need to work on reverting the phone to stock - a factory reset and an unroot. That is impossible without being able to connect to my PC. Like... I have these saved but can't start the operation:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27670666&postcount=8
http://androidforums.com/optimus-v-...uide-100-stock-lg-optimus-v-all-versions.html
See, I have found plenty of answers for each individual problem, but everything tends to overlap. I have completely confused myself. I am getting a headache from all of this new terminology to me and all of these different answers...
The first step should be trying to figure out why the phone isn't connecting to the computer. That may resolve a slew of other issues and allow me to run ADB. But I'm fully prepared for that not to get me anywhere.
What can I do? Where should I begin? Is there anything that's even possible with this mess? Anything to go on would be greatly appreciated! And feel free to ask me any questions you have about it - I will do my best to answer
you mentioned that your phone is rooted, and I suppose that you have recovery, so try this, connect phone to pc trough usb, boot into recovery, go to mounts and mount usb and see if your phone is recognized by pc(try LGMDP and if it does, update it, but you must have ADB enabled in phone settings development) and pop up the window with sd card content

Booting into recovery and doing that got me this:
E: Unable to write to ums lunfile (No such file or directory)
I couldn't mount "system" either. Well... maybe I did, but it didn't do anything?

System memory taking too much storage - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 -

Hi there,
First of all, sorry because English is not my mother tongue. I will try to explain my problem here as well as I can but I say sorry in advance for any error that I could make when writing this post here.
Few days ago I bought a Samsung Galaxy Note 9. I have barely used it but after few days I realised that nearly 50Gb (49.3 Gb) are already taken by "System/user data" according to what it is specified in the "Device care" storage options of the phone.
As I said, I have had no time to use the device yet apart from receiving a pair of calls with it and trying to install the F-Droid application. The day when I installed F-Droid I downloaded from there the Termux terminal to check if I could be able to check the F-Droid apk agaisnt the signature to verify the download.
One of the days I began to receive notifications to upload the system. I received many of these and I proceeded to allow all of them. There was a moment when I had the impression that the notifications were too many and when I began to read them carefully I noticed that some of them were similar to the previous ones. Notifications continued but I stopped to allow them. By then the display of the device has changed. I think this was due to the change from Android Oreo to Pie.
Some time after I realised about the problem that I mention here. I have not saved any content to the phone yet (no photos, no videos, even I have not set my email there yet).
I tried to reset the mobile to its factory settings. I had no worries of doing that because as I said I had nothing yet important on my phone. After trying that a pair of times the problem of the system storage was still there.
I have tried to use CCleaner and LTE CLeaner to solve this issue without any success. I have tried to dial *#9900# on the phone and then select from menu - "delete dumpstate/logcat" as proposed in Androidforums. I was able to perform this latter mentioned procedure but nothing changed (I have read that for some people is not possible to do this latter because their carriers do not allow them to use this option - *#9900#-)
The other solution that I read and that I have not tried yet is to root the phone and manually trying to find and delete the files which may be taking the storage, however I am hesitant to do so because I have no experience at all and it is a brand new and expensive phone as you know. I feel bad thinking about trying to root and solve this problem by myself and voiding completely my guarantee of the device.
I am still in the period of 15 days in which I can return the phone according the law for protecting customers of my country, however I am afraid that if I go back to the store from where I bought the device and ask there for a change to a new Note 9 they might tell me that everything is just my fault for having installed some apps from outside the Google and Samsung official apps stores.
Do you think I am already out of guarantee for just installing F-Droid and Termux?
Could you give me some advice about how to deal with this issue? Would be possible to avoid the rooting procedure to solve this problem?
Thank you very much for your help.
Any help so far?
Ok the system user data is where apps store their stuff. If you didn't root then you don't even have access to it. So I'm betting that most of it is normal storage stuff. Even my 64 gb uses 22gb of stuff that I can't touch but that is normal.

Well considering that without root you have no access to that partition. I am almost sure that it is normal for the apps you have installed. The only way to find out for sure is to factory reset and look at the storage amount is by default. The more apps you install the more that partition will fill up. ITs not unknown. IT is app data. You must be new to android.

Like I said. That is a partition you have zero control over without root. Mine is stiing at 22gb out of 64.
Even if you did clear it out. You wouldn't be able to use that storage for anything as it is not a user access able storage area
Another pic:
The first time when I passed CCleaner in the storage analysis section of that app it pointed out just something more than 2 GB of system data ... however as I said before the effective taken storage showed by Device care was still nearly 50GB.
Also there is discrepancy with the "Files" app from Google. This latter just point point out to 14.46 GB used out of 512 GB.

50gb out of 512 sounds about right for a samsung device. I wouldnt trust CCleaner. Also without root no app will be able to even read anything on the system partition properly.
The system is broken up into like 20 different partitions.
To be honest I wouldnt worry about it and here is why. Even if you cleared it out and made it empty you still would not be able to use that space as it is for app data only. Which samsung encludes alot of.
Ok, thank you very much for you help Solitarios.lupus

Wipe device if a specific unlock code is entered?

So, my country have absolutely lost their minds after 6 years of hard-right power. Privacy is dead.
I am looking for a way to set up an android device such that if a specific unlock pin is entered, it will immediately wipe internal storage + SD card.
I have tried tools like Cerberus App etc, which is great once someone has your device and is gone - you can do a lot of things remotely or via SMS but I am looking for a solution that will work in person with the goons standing over you.
If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears.

There was a time I wanted to visit Australia.
That time is gone... they've went nuts and freedom is history now.
I would encrypt to internal memory and SD card.
A better idea might be to stash the data in the cloud. Swallow the SD card... getting the hell out of there seems like the best plan.

You are right, and it just gets worse every day. We're like the petri dish for NWO/WEF BS - they try everything here first to see how the people will react.
I'm not opposed to just leaving my phone behind and buying a temporary device to use whilst overseas. To be honest this seems like the best solution, but I would dearly love to provide the unlock code for my device and watch their faces as it does a HCF and they can no longer creep on my photos and conversations.

Lol, leave just the Mr. Hands vid on the phone.
Hopefully it will give them a new direction and be their downfall

That is the sort of thing they are looking for - that video would be illegal in Aus. You'd be charged.

I am looking for a way to set up an android device such that if a specific unlock pin is entered, it will immediately wipe internal storage + SD card.
If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears.
