Can I do this to view paid market in non-US country? I have an ADP and really need paid apps, I want to spend my money and Google doesn't want =))

Sorry, I really dont know if it will work outside of US. The only way is to try and let us know. As I am traveling to Europe on a regular basis I will try and report my finding at that time.

Okie, I will test now. But I think it will didn't work because my friend's using Tmobile G1 RC33 JF1.43. 2 days ago, he tried putting an US sim card to his phone and he still not be able to access to paid market. I think google check our IP.
Now, all people try putting your sim card out and put the Tmobile sim card include phone box (if yyou buy it from US) and check the market, If you can access the paid market, It's mean that Google check sim region.
Then if you want to see the "paid" apps into Market, you really need
to have a SIM card plugged into ADP. Without it I could not see any
paid apps (very weird isn't it? Probably a nice bug in Market). I
recommend to plug your SIM card then to go to Market sections
"Applications" and "Games" and then you can get rid of your SIM card
and you will be able to see the "paid" apps.

Read it !!!!!!!!!!! It means that Google ceck Sim card region.
so basically what you are doing is just updating to 1.1 holiday, right?
Im in spain using JF 1.43 ADP1 1.1h and I cant see any paid app, so probably google is checking for sim country code...
Hello [Ris], I am from Spain too and I am afraid we will have to wait until Movistar releases their G1, I hope this month.
BUt, will Google do a cross check of the model number + sim country code and leave us without paid apps?
I think it is a nonsense that we can't buy apps from other countries.

I don't think so. I think they check sim and IP only. Because at older FW (rc30) I can't find some software that release only for US user, but when I plug in my tmobile sim card, I can find and download them. Now I tried doing that, but it doesn't work. I think I will fake IP and test again.
I think faking IP address in wireless router will work. We only need fake to US IP and use a US sim to access Android paid Market.
Please help us to fake IP in a router, I'm look for how to do.

Not exactly. What I have noticed is that whenever you access Market with a SIM card plugged you can see paid apps and then you dont need it anymore if you are on the same Wifi network.
I could unplugged my SIM card, reboot and thru Wifi still see the paid apps. Then connecting to a new Wifi network, I could not see the paid apps anymore.
Hope that helps,
Fabrice
adp 1.1 holiday and paid apps
i can see paid apps. im using jf holiday adp, udgraded baseband, in US.
Paid apps yea, but what about protected apps. I think rooted phones cannot donwload protected apps. Protection is an option you check off when releasing your app in the market.
ADP can't reach to paid market. I look for the way to fake IP from the router. Can you help me?
I have a german G1 with ADP1.1/JFv1.43h and I do see paid apps if I insert an old, used up prepaid US SIM card from cingular. Even with a german IP address.
The market application ask several time for my google account password after I swap the cards, but it does work. Unclear if i can buy something, I'll try that (have to first set up a google checkout account).
But: Soem other apps have completely disappeared after I flashed to the ADP1 firmware. Are those the so called 'protected' ones? Can somebody explain what this protection is about?
Thanks, I'll post any app buying success.
Success! Just bought the app "Graph" for 2.99$.
You need a google checkout account (and a visa/mastercard/whatever credit card for that) plus a (any) US SIM card. Works with JFv1.43h ADP1.
The SIM card can be old and rusty, the one I'm using is so old that it does not allow me to access the GSM/3G network here in germany.
Interesting is that the terms of service I had to agree on were displayed in german. This could be because I have a "german google account".
So, try it if you have such a SIM card, otherwise: It won't take long until the paid market doors open here in europe, maybe a few weeks.

Thạnk you very much. I'm flash back to RC33 JF4.3 and will post my result now
The firmware I'm using is JFv1.43h, the modified ADP1 holiday build. So you wont have any difference with RC33 I guess.
It depends on the SIM card.

Hi,
I believe that the UK Orange Desire S features the UMA app for Orange Signal Boost. Can anyone confirm this? If so I am hoping that it can be ported to other HTC devices...
I wish it was, but Orange don't have the Desire S in their shop yet.
I have just got an upgrade on Orange to a Desire S through phones4u, once I have finished setting it up I'll check with a different sim, but it appears to be sim free.
No signal boost app, no root yet AKAIK, I also have a LG P500 from work on Orange which does have the app. Haven't successfully moved the app to a different phone yet though.
Would really really like UMA on the DS though.
Interestingly I had a call from Orange the other day doing a survey, how good is your signal, are you aware of UMA sort of questions. Told them the best thing they could do for me would be to release the signal boost app for all android phones.
Any news on this would be very welcome.
EDIT:: Just checked, it's sim free. Bonus.
MG
I have a DS on Orange (sent from orange on an upgrade last fri) I dont know what 'UMA App' is, but the DS does have 'Signal Boost' it uses the wireless network in your home from what I understand.

Does it have loads of orange branding too? There must be a way of getting the apk out.
I've tried various Kineto.apk installs, even had a different rom on the LG, but it would always FC so I went back to the stock orange rom.
How would we go about getting the apk out? Astro, Ti backup?
EDIT: - Going to try the Orange Rom in this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1002506 Thread
Signal Boost is the UMA app. I have also tried a few Kineto install but with no luck, I believe it might actually rely on some things in the kernel which don't normally exist.
No luck with the Orange rom, 131 error. I wonder if Orange CS will be any use?

Did you download the ROM, extract the .apk then load it onto your device? What device did y ou try it on?
I've extracted the system.img and found MS-SAGA-KNT20-02-A0-GB.apk which installs the Signal Boost app, force closes though.
Looked at a few of the other packages there and some are interesting in that they won't install as an apk, must be running or permissions issues.
If I could get round the 131 error on installing the Orange rom I'd be happy.
MG
I am pretty sure it needs a compatible kernel too. If you look at the threads regarding loading the T-Mobile wifi app (also Kineto) onto the N1 you will see what I mean. Shame but I can't see anyone with the required skills picking this up to make it work on many devices.
Had a call from Orange CS yesterday, unable to install app or rom on unbranded phone.
Anyone know someone with an XTC clip in the south west - Cornwall / Devon?
Okay, I just had a little luck with the UMA application.
Not quite there yet though.
BASICALLY, I have come to understand that the application extracted from various Roms FC cuz they are missing other files they depend on from the ROM.
I was using Orange Signal Boost apk from the Orange Desire S rom (am attaching it) on my HTC Legend.
Then I came across stories of someone in US who had extracted an apk from so Tmobile Rom for wifi calling and made it to work on a Nexus 1. I downloaded that files (also attached). This file was a modded version of original apk and had all the dependant files. (and consequently was 3mb vs 600kb of Orange signal boost)
So what I tried was
1. Install tmobile wifi app
2. Install Orange signal boost on TOP of it. It will ask you that this progam will replace another older program on your phone. Clcik okay.
3. What this does is leave old installed files needed from tmobile app and this time LO AND BEHOLD, signal boost app launches without FC
Here comes the problem though, it doesnt work, cuz somewhere hardcoded in the files that the tmobile app installs is the network info and naturally, our sims being orange are recognized as invalid sim.
Me and a LOT of other people would REALLY appreciate it if someone with any knowhow can look at this and figure it out for us
The main difference is that the large apk contains lib/armeabi/libkineto.so
Can you get the libkineto.so from the Desire S?

Its not just a question of extracting the .apk which is easy enough, there are lots of other dependencies which are a nightmare to reverse engineer.

Hmm, While its great to see people have started to try and extract the UMA signal boost application, it does look like (atm at least) any users that wish to keep the UMA signal boost functionality will have to keep with the original stock orange ROM.
On the subject of dependencies how likely is it that there are closed/proprietary libraries are being used? The reason I ask is given the nature of the android platform and the number of open source notices in the pre-installed UMA application, it may be possible to work out the library dependencies from the open source notices. If anyone is interested in taking this further I can take screenshots of these open source notices (unless you can think of an easy way to extract the text).
I also noticed I seem to be running a slightly newer version on the UMA applicaion. I seem to be running MS-HTCSM-KNT20-02-A0-GB-12 on my stock orange rom.
what exactly does this app? is is some kind of a software implemented pico BTS for 3G? like the ones vodafone offers to plug in at home with bad reception, where it uses your internet connection to provide better signal at home?

Got it
Sent from my HTC Desire S
I take it no one knows any more about this?
The stock orange rom is driving me mad, I think I'm have to live without the UMA signal boost application on another rom.
Maybe it needs a certificate?
Hi all. If you look at how UMA is set up on unlocked Blackberry's they have to enter UNC & SEGW server address' and choose a certificate to use. The addresses may or may not be hard coded in to the signal boost apk, I would guess they're not but maybe the certificate isn't. I read somewhere that the certificates are stored in system/etc/security/cacerts.bks if that helps?

OK, I got an idea, dunno how good it is but I can't test it since I'm not an Orange and don't have a Sense ROM installed.
You've said that it's not working cause application looks for Tmobile as network info (at least is what I've understood). What you can try is to install from market MarketEnabler application and "fake" T-Mobile network. It fools Android Market enough to gain access to it as if you're on T-Mobile, even if you're living on the other side of the globe and on different network. It should trick this application as well. Give it a try and tell me if it's working
Hi everyone;
I am having trouble and had no choice but to ask for advice as i cant seem to find the solution!
I bought an HD7 off ebay UK. The phone was originally on O2 but the seller unlocked and unbranded it and sent it to me without testing its features!
Now it wont make phone calls, wont send texts, wont load IE! When i click on Phone tile, it goes back to main screen!
I dont know the original ROM details but the seller updated it to NODO update:
v7.0.7390.0 with Radio Radio_5.52.09.16_22.33a.50.10U
I am on 3 network! It does go online using SurfCube browser. It does send a text to a number but it wont allow me to read the ones i recieve!
He says it was working fine with him. But not working on 3 network! I also tried the Virgin sim card he left in it and it wasnt working with it either!
Could anyone help me update it to a proper firmware that would work with 3 network? I dont mind having 3UK branded rom... as long as it works, i am fine but i prefer non branded... with copy paste function if possible...
Please help...
Thanks...
I'd have a look in the device forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=783
If you don't get a fix for it then you could always dispute the transaction through PayPal...
I did look through the developer page but because i am new to this i am not sure if i can just use any rom to change the firmware! And it is rather complicated!
The question is, since i have v7.0.7390.0 with Radio Radio_5.52.09.16_22.33a.50.10U
can i replace it with any rom or does it have to be compatible with the current rom?
Thanks...
there was a rom posted on wmpoweruser.com
I have seen all of these before. This is what happen when someone select the wrong language in the ChevronWP7 Updater (for example English International instead of English United States).
The only way to fix this is with a ROM flash.
Hello! I just got an unlocked at&t surround phone for christmas. I use simple mobile from t-mobile. The phone makes calls and sends texts but will not connect with the 3g internet or send MMS. I have already been through older posts here looking for an answer. everyone talks about an app in the marketplace called connection setup. I have seached the htc market place and the general marketplace and i cannot find it. Is there any other way? or am i possibly not looking in the right place?
Any help you can give me is welcome! if i cant fix the phone i will have to sell it and i dont want to I love it!

You won't be able to connect to 3G on that phone running T-Mobile. They use different 3g bands and it is hard coded into the hardware. As for mms you need to make sure your apn is correct
So it will only work with AT&T?

Custom ROM for HTC Mondrian (Surround)
I have tried using the custom ROMs by DFT and Ansar, but the Intrinsic ROM seems to be the best. It has 7.10.7740.16 version and Internet Sharing. TouchExplorer and Registry Editor work on it. I have only two issues - TouchExperience is throwing an unhandled exception error and i am not able to update to 7.10.8107.79 through Zune.
An update - i didn't want to continue using a ROM which doesn't allow updates, so i tried Ansar's RUU_Surround_Cingular_US_4.03.502.01_Radio_5.69.09.05a_22.50.50.21U_NT_Mango_7720 again.
Again, Zune did not show the 7740 and 8107 updates, but i was able to install them using WP7+Update+Cab+Sender.
So i finally have what i was looking for - an unlocked phone which can be upgraded to tha latest os version.
Almost ideal, except for one key ingredient missing - Internet Connection Sharing. I've tried DiagProvXMLv0.91_IS and it has resulted in the internet sharing option showing under Settings. However, i get an error msg 'Internet sharing isn't enabled yet' when i try to turn on the feature.
Hoping that Ansar will read this post and provide a solution soon!
Hello,
I am looking for the Novatel 5792 1.5 firmware update.. Novatel was bought (or just changed their name)? and forwarding to a new site.. Their site is just f*cked up.. The URL forwards are not even going to valid URLs, nevermind that when one corrects the URL, the page still doesn't load.
The firmware update provides two important things to me, a third is less important though.
Enables LTE bands 2 and 5, and is supposed to flash the root password in the 'status area' during the update. Also supposed to flash the SIM unlock code, but I was desperate and activated my DC-Unlocker dongle specifically to unlock it, argh, but whatever..
Does anybody have a working download for the generic 1.4 or 1.5 USB-installed firmware update for the Novatel 5792?
The AT&T version should work as well, but I can't find the downloads anywhere.. Every guide suggests the support section of novatelwireless.com which simply doesn't exist any more.
Thank you
Bump.. Would really appreciate a link to the file on their site.. The links to actual files still seem to be working, but the listings are not working.
Thought the bump rule as a week.. Apparently it is only a day. Better than getting it backwards eh
bump.. me too
