Can't use OTG-USB in TWRP on Grouper - General Questions and Answers

Hello, I've flashed a couple of ROMs on a Nexus 7 (2012 - Grouper), using TWRP and a USB memory.
Now, when I tried to flash a new ROM, the USB OTG is no longer recognized.
I've tried two different OTG cables and a couple of double ended USB sticks, but they are not recognized.
I've also tried ADB sideload, but that didn't work either.
I've had a similar problem on other devices, so I just put the ROM on an SD card. But the Grouper doesn't have a slot for an SD card.
The same thing happened last week, but the OTG came back after navigating around in TWRP. Now it seems to have permanently gone.
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks

I'm wondering whether this could be a hardware fault, possibly due to using a faulty USB adapter some time in the pas.
Is it possible that a faulty adapter could produce a hardware fault in the tablet?
In that case, is there any way of getting a new ROM onto the tablet memory and so give the tablet (my wife's) a new lease of life? TWRP is working, but that's all. Maybe jumper leads onto the USB connector. That could work if it's just the connetor, not a softare prob. I don't suppose anyone's tried that.

usb connection with pc suddenly dead

Hello suddenly my nexus s stopped connecting with data with the pc it only charges, tried with 3 diffrent computers with diffrent os , no menu popping on nexus and nothing connected on the computer(like i didnt connect anything), i removed the battery left it for some time installed stock rom still nothing. It was acting normally for a second and the other it stopped any help appreciated!
Are you sure you're using the cable that came with the phone? I have an LG Wink featurephone here that uses the same connector at the phone end -- its cable will charge my Nexus S (using the computer, obviously, but also when used with either the LG or Samsung charger) but no USB connection happens when I use it. Only the cable that came with my Nexus S provides a USB connection when I connect to the computer. I guess there are pinout differences between the two cables.
If you're sure you're using the right cable, I would guess that it's gone bad if it doesn't work on any computer. You can buy an (overpriced) replacement from Samsung or maybe a cheaper one on eBay or at a retail store. If the latter, be sure the seller lists it as compatible with the Nexus S.
it happened with the original cable ppfff i dont know...
same problem

Hi
I have the same problem
I have no idea what the problem could be.
We are not alone with this problem: code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=13553
Now installed stock rom as well but still the same problem.
If i starting the NS in the bootloader mode the phone is not recognized by the computer.
It would be great, if someone knows a solution!

I've been trying to get help with this for weeks. No one is even responding to my posts. I thought it was something OBSURDLY simple, such that people didn't even want to waste their time responding to me.
Seeing same problem, No connetion via USB
Posted problem in General,, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1104245

Curious do any of you have the Google Music Beta?? (maybe a over zealous rights thing?)

My phone charges just fine. And my USB connectivity was fine until I manually installed 2.3.4.
~I had usb connection problems after upgrade to 2.3.4 a bit different but I managed to get the USB back by formatting the SD card.

I was on 2.3.3 when this happened, i tried to flash 2.3.4 then and again it didnt work but the strange thing is that when i was moving the mini usb the first times up and down it was shown for a moment as a broken usb device. Then this stopped and was not shown at all on the computer and finally the phone charged super slow when connected to electricity
Beginning to believe that it is a physical prob with USB connector on phone. It seems to start/stop charging when wiggling usb on phone but no mounting. Doe anyone know best way to resolve , T-mobile but bought from Best Buy? so to Best Buy? FOR SUPPORT /EXCHANGE? suggestions?
I've seen loose connections before. My suggestion ain't the cheapest but the plug, on the cable end, shouldn't wiggle. I went to a corporate sprint store, the ones that actually have working display phones, and got their usb to micro usb data cable. The thing with that cable is when you plug it in the phone side, it goes into the jack firmly. You can almost feel the little locking tabs click into place. There should be no play or wiggle with that cable as long as there's no damage or abuse with the jack on the phone. IMO, that's a good data cable. It's never given me problems before.
Also, sometimes the cable is only wired for charging. A true data cable will be wired correctly and be able to both charge and transfer data. Usually the cables that come with the phone are crap quality. I don't know if my suggestion will help but it won't hurt to have a good cable for data transfer and flashing. The last thing you want is a flaky connection from a cheap cable when you're flashing roms. Russian roulette with bricking a phone in a worse case situation.
Did you try reboot the computer and the phone? How about a different usb port? How about unplug any other usb device in case it's conflicting for some unknown reason? It sounds like so many people with windows 7 are having problems. Usually always happens with a new os that's released. Xp, for flashing devices and programming different hardware devices, has never given of a problem. I have a small partition with xp on it just for that purpose only.
off to Samsung for repair for me...
After time on phone with them and a factory reset belief is that the usb connector is defective. BTW Best Buy just hands off to Samsung 1-800 #
So Back to a barely functional G-1 for a while, glad I could find it!
So is Samsung or the carriers replacing or fixing units?
My USB data died shortly after 2.3.4 ota update.
Wifi FTP is fine for data transfer but I want USB debug to work...
Shame on google and Samsung, this bug has been around for months.
no shame on anyone...
I went through a factory reset with Samsung on phone that isolated the problem to what is apparently a loose usb connector, nothing to do with software... only hassle is sending it in for repair, as` mentioned problem needs to be dealt with Samsung customer service (not carrier or Best Buy), they were fine on phone...

(Solved ) USB not working

Here is my case, I am now on stock 4.1.1
When I connect my nexus to my PC, it only charges. I can neither mount USB storage nor attaching to debug mode. What even worse is that, I can't even run fastboot command in bootloader, so basically I can't flash a custom recovery.
As a result, I am now stuck on stock ROM.
Can anyone please give me an idea to get my USB driver work, or at least to flash a recovery?
EDIT: I have used fast charge before, so will it screwed up or disable the USB driver? Any way to restore it in my case?
EDIT: Solved. The two USB line charges only
Can anyone help me?
I have tried two USB lines with two PCs, so I do think there is a problem of my phone.

Hello barrielui,
would you describe more information how you solved that issue? What do you exactly mean by last line? It's working only for "charging" or for data transfer (mass_storage) too? You've found new type of USB cabel or what?
Unfortunately have the exactly same issue few days after upgrade to JLB 4.1.1 stock Rom. It works properly few days and than from some reason something happen, but don't know what&why and how to fix it.
Think maybe it's a hardware problem, but how it happened is mystery
I had issues with my usb for a while myself, it just kept getting worse until I would not get a charge at all. Your issue may be different than mine, but I had my nexus s the first week it came out. I had already planned to have my phone sent in for repair on my usb, so I figured I could tinker with it. It turns out that the little tab in my charge port was pushed down (away from the screen when holding in hand) just enough that it would barely make contact with my micro usb cables. I used a tac and slipped it in between and carefully pried up a little.
Caution, this may not be your problem, look at other options, or compare your usb port to another phone to determine if it is it. My tab was just barely gaped from the bottom.
Solution
Try cleaning the Nexus port pins with something pointy...deposits on pins inside cellphone port prevents the usb contact..clean it one by one with a pin and tell me if it worked

It was a hardware issue with USB connector on motherboard on my case, but strange is that it was occurred when flashing to newer system.

[Q] Can't use OTG on Tab 7.7

Hi all, I have had a Tab 7.7 for 12 months and have been using an OTG adaptor to copy jpegs from my camera's SD card to the external SD card in my Tab. All of a sudden the whole process has stopped working. My Tab 7.7 has ICS 4.0.4. and is NOT rooted. Previously when I plug in the OTG adaptor the File Manager appears showing the folders on the SD card in the adaptor. When I plug it in now I get the message "USB mas storage removed safely" and that's it. I was thinking I might re-flash the rom but since I can't even get Odin to load on my windows 8 PC (it flashes on the pc monitor then goes off) I really can't be bothered. I went to the trouble of running Odin on a windows 7 PC at least it loaded on 7 but wouldn't acknowledge the Tab being connected. I thought I might have a driver problem, but has anyone on this site tried downloading a driver for samsung tab 7.7, it's a bloody nightmare. You get all sorts of crap from checking what drivers are missing or outdated on your PC then having to by a copy for $29.95. I'm really over it. When I rooted my Mororola xoom 12 months ago and flashed ICS I had no problems at all, there wasn't a link like we have now that sends you to a site that takes 5 hours to download a tar file or you could buy a subscription and do it in 9 mins. Can anyone please offer any assistance with my problem before I toss it in the bin. Many thanks
Yeah maybe try a few different things connected to see what exactley is the problem.do you have any other usb things you could connect?

Thanks, I tried a laser mouse and the led under the mouse dosent light so I suspect the 5volt rail has gone somewhere. I'll pull the back off and check connector. I will post outcome.
Have you tried a different sd card?

Yes sure have, 3 to be exact. I've changed my mind about looking for 5 volts on the usb connector. I'm just not going to bother trying to connect a SD card through the USB port. Life is too short to stuff around

Reboots with SD card

Hello
Since CM 11 I'm experiencing reboots when plug the phone to the PC or USB Charger (Charger with USB standar cable). If I don't quit the cable the reboot falls into a loop.
With CM 10.2 everything was fine.
I was reading the problem with some other Motorola phones is related with SD Card and Software. And yes, it's. Razr HD is also affected along Droid Pro and Droix X.
But, this is because CM 11 has the bug or it's Motorola fault? I was reading people having all king of roms is experiencing the problem. Or, both are faulting?
Removing the SD Card before boot or unmounting and mount later fixes the reboot problem. But tis fix is annoyance.
Besides. The recommended fix of format SD did not work.
Someone else is experiencing the same problem?
Note #1: SD CArd it's fine. Tested with 2, 4 and 8 GB. Al makes th hone reboots.
Note #2: There several threads here on XDA but can't find something helpful over there
Note #3: Charger is fine. I'm sharing the with Milestone 2 and XT316 phones and no reboots at all.

I'm not aware of any problem. I have a 16gb card and have never experienced any issues. At one time or another I've been plugged into either my PC or USB charger but I can't say I've had any reboots. I don't recall anyone else posting on this thread about it either.
Does it reboot as soon as you plug in, or does something else have to be done too?
Sent from my XT926

Hi,
Yes. Reboot anytime you plug the usb cable having the cable connected to PC or charger.
However.
I was testing another USB charger that is exactly the same model of the one I was using and no reboots at all.
I have tested two more USB cables without any reboot.
So maybe, defective cable? it's Motorola brand
And no matter if cable is having some problem...
Why the phone does no reboot when SD card is not mounted?
Why is the only phone of three sharing the cable that is experiencing reboots?
Weird
Dear moderator. Could you please move this posts to RAZR HD Q&A, Seems the problem is not reacted with CM

USB OTG in my LG V20 not being recognized when plugged into charge port.

I just loaded up my LG V20 with the AOKP android 7.1, I plugged in my USB OTG ( SD micro card installed in this) and it will not even power on at all. I rebooted into TWRP, and it works just fine there, I can read, mount and unmount, no troubles. Booted to system, but no power at all to the adapter plugged into the USB-c / charging port. I loaded a second custom ROM, Desolaton, and it behaved in the same manner as AOKP. I then restored the original V20 OS in TWRP from a backup, , and it sees the drive just fine, so it must have something to do with this phone and how it behaves with custom ROM's. My reader is a couple of years old, but doubt that is an issue since is does work on the original OS that the phone shipped with, and it also worked with my LG G3. Is there a setting I might be overlooking In Settings to enable this to work? Any ideas as to if it might be a hardware of software issue? Thanks.
