Lollipop - Apps not autostarting

Hi. I have Alcatel 5054D with Lollipop (5.1.1) on board. I noticed that many apps are not starting on boot or on events that are fired by the OS. For example, when my phone was not rooted I tried to install Truecaller, Truemessenger and Textra. They simply didn't work just after reboot or if I removed them from the recent apps list. What is worse SMS apps won't start on new incoming SMS, it just disappears without any reaction from Textra or Truemessenger. But everything works fine when I start these apps manually and keep them in the background.
Then I rooted my phone, installed Link2SD and noticed that it fails to start after a reboot too! I have to launch it manually for the paths to be rebinded.
I installed autostart manager and it showed that all the events (receivers) for these apps are enabled.
On the other hand standard SMS app, Whatsapp, Viber, GMail do autostart and work properly.
I have no task killers installed and cannot figure out the reason of the issue.

Try wiping your cashe partition and reboot, if that doesn't work BACKUP YOUR DATA and perform a factory reset and see if it solves it.

RESOLVED
It's not a bug, it's a feature: restricted apps. This can be found in Settings - Apps - (several swipes to right). Also, it seems that an app can be restricted only if it is stored in the internal memory.

Been forever since I've made a post to XDA, but I have a problem I'm not able to solve without taking an inconvenient plunge. I should mention that my phone was 100% fine yesterday evening, but since I was asleep last night it seems to have run out of battery, so this morning I charged it a bit, then I turned it on to a world of problems.
Ok, so let me run through a list of just a handful of the problems I'm having right now...
Totally stock (not rooted) Nexus 5 running Android 6.0.1 (Security: 1 March 2016)
1. Home and App switch soft keys don't work
2. Notifcations are not working at all
3. Notification shade wont pull down
4. Widgets cannot, and will not load
5. Cannot get into Developer options "Developer options are not available for this user"
Seems I'm not the only one to experience the strange bug, some folks over at Android Central were experiencing the exact same thing toward the end of last year.

Some people to have resolved this issue using "adb shell am start -n com.google.android.setupwizard/.SetupWizardTestActivity" but I cannot get into Developer options to turn on USB Debugging (unless I don't need to?)
What I've tried already...
1. Cleared all Google App data "CLEAR ALL DATA"
2. Tried to make another user, just flashes and goes back to "Opula" my main and broken user profile, never creates the other profile, same thing happens when I press on Guest too
3. Safe mode, but the problem persists there too
4. Virus scan, turned up a whole lot of nothing
I'm now at the point where I'm thinking I'm going to have to do a Factory data reset (the "inconvenient plunge"), even though I think I've backed everything up the "Touch to sync" option on my Account > Google doesn't do anything, neither does the "Sync now" from the drop down menu. So despite having explored my Google account on my desktop I cannot see if it has backed up my Apps and App data, but it seems to have backed up my contacts and such.
I'm going to get a third party app to back up as stuff as I possibly can as well, but even Helium is useless now since I cannot get into the Developer options so enable USB debugging.
Anyone got any experience with this issue or how to resolve it?

Hi all,
Just wanted to update this thread to say that I did a factory reset and the phone is now fixed, but I wouldn't to give a more comprehensive account of the problems I was experiencing with the phone until I did the factory reset.
List of problems
Home and app-switch soft keys not working (back key is working)
Google Now 'on tap' not appearing (cause of home key)
Cannot see notifications just says "No notifications" (but the light and sound work fine when a notification is received)
Cannot pull down notification shade to toggle controls
Widgets cannot be added and will not load
Cannot pull down the immersive mode overlay
Google Backup not working (after 8+ days)
All types of syncing not working
Phone's storage doesn't appear on PC when plugged in via USB
Cannot access developer options (due to active profile level)
Cannot create or switch users
The best advice I can give to mitigate such an unusual problem (that appeared totally out of the blue on a cold boot) is use Google Backup services, keep on top of syncing, and manage your data via your Google account! Or as an alternative, manage and maintain manual backups.

I am running android 6.0.1 official version from samsung for my tab s2 t710 with august security patch. Now th problem is related to the new permission system in android m.for eg i installed an app and now it wants permission to storage or other stuff i press on allow but then it tells me about screen overlay detected ok I guess?!? Open settings allow permission and THEN IT just doesnt allow me to do anything related permission giving.i have to go to the safe mode to do things but then for some stupid reson my homescreen gets messed as all user apps are removed but then when reboot again to normal mode its still the same messed homescreen!!!!!!in other android devices i found that it automatically rearranged all the stuff back to original place but here !?!?!??!!

You won't see your user apps in safe mode because safe mode only loads your system apps, the stuff that is supposed to be there and works like it supposed to, that's why it is called safe mode(it loads only system apps to avoid loading something you added that is causing issues).
When it gives you the overlay error, are you going to system settings>apps to find the option to disable overlay? I don't see it in your screenshots. After disabling overlay you should be able to change the storage permission.

That's the problem here. Basically after i open settings to allow the app for the permission it says screen overlay detected. Then it takes me directly to settings, application manager, and then to app that can draw over other apps. Unfortunately, that's what I can get through because the apps list the on off is blacked out no matter what I do. What do i do then please help very annoying.!!??!

S8+ Intense Lag/Glitches after May Update (last update)

Hi there,
The S8+ (Exynos) was the smoothest phone I've ever had. It ran perfectly, with no lag/stutter whatsoever, it was butter smooth. That until the last update...(The May update with Bluetooth and SD card stability ; Android May security patch).
Now, the phone lags/stutters/drops frames in everything - it affects the UI animations, the scrolling in almost every app (even in settings), any game (even the least demanding game), browsing, the phone also has keyboard input lag. It also scores very low scores in benchmark apps (about half of what it should score). The phone also heats up for no reason, especially during charging (it was never heating up before the update).
What I've tried (with no effect):
- Disabling all features from Settings, down to the smallest details. Disabling all bloatware apps from settings (Samsung apps, Word, etc.).
- Cleaning Cache/RAM/Junk files with Device Maintenance, Clean Master and SD Maid (and uninstalling those apps afterwards)
- Manually cleaning cache from all apps (all 300+ of them, including system apps)
- Manually force stopping all apps (all 300+ of them)
- Uninstalling all User-installed apps
- Wipe Cache from Recovery Mode
- Manually stopping all running Services from Developer options
- Setting no backround services option in Developer options
- Disabling all safe-to-disable apps (including system ones) using BK disabler
- Several Restarts
- Complete factory reset (from Recovery Mode) and instaliing all apps from scratch. Then, doing all the things above.

PS: Animations are not only lagging/stuttering, but they are also glitching in some way (hard to describe, but little artifacts appear when minimizing/maximizing apps).
The screen also developed slight burn in (visible on gray image) in the notification and navigation bar area, although I use it with less than 50% brightness and with AOD disabled
Nothing worked. The phone has very brief moments when the animation lag dissapears, but then it starts back. The phone is now working worse than it did with the Battery Saving Option activated before the update.
I am aware that probably most of you don't have this issue. If you know anything that could help, please tell me.
-Should I take it to warranty ? ( I'm afraid that they will open it up and it will loose its water resistance)
- Any way of rolling back the update?

No, I don't have ROOT or Custom ROM. Just Stock.

Do you have any accessibility service enabled?

No, everything is disabled.

There are certain ways to check your dropped frames. A quick Google gave me this: http://www.phonearena.com/news/How-...evice-has-dropped-frame-issues-or-not_id70744

Go to www.sammobile.com or www.updato.com and download previous software and flash back to that. You can downgrade as long as the bootloader number is the same which it is. BL number is always 5th from the last number, its currently 1.

or try reinstalling the latest from here once again! May have been a dodgy installation process.

Seems like you need a factory reset.

Update: After a second factory reset, I have disabled all the apps in the ,,Bloatware" Section of BK Disabler (50+ non-user-installed apps) and the animation glitches/artifacts + overheating dissapeared. The scroll lag also seems mostly gone. Basically the problems dissapeared completely (so happy).
I'm currently waiting to see if the situation remains the same. I believe that the problems were caused by some sort of interaction between one of the apps and the new security patch.
Advice: DON'T disable any System apps (from BK Disabler). I've noticed that even by disabling one(any) of them, the phone overheats and a lot of errors occur in the background (checked the system recovery logs), because a lot of apps rely on each other.

Lol samcex...you are a great reader )...he already tried this)) Anyway I can't confirm this(my animation are disabled from dev option), but.... a small feeling that the phone is a more laggy is on my mind too...Something has changed.

Hey friend , do u have a list of apps that u disabled ? Im having this problem too its crazy i love this phone but lags when i press home buttoj from facebook to go to home page ? Have to wait 1.5 secs to go to settings , which in that case it should just go immediately in my opinion , i press the power button to wake up the screen and a big lag while the screen is oppening , idk i tried reset and everything nothing helps..maybe u can give me a list of apps i should disable please

so does anyone else experience this "press power button to unlock phone but only red light comes on for the iris scanner and screen remains black"? even after a few clicks until eventually screen goes on?(fingerprint doesn't even bring screen on)

I am have problem with my s21+ g996u1..after frimware update i noticed that there is some app that trying to open randomly in background but then it close immediately..that happens every few minutes
There is a way to downgrade frimware?
There is a way to Recognize that app that trying

You can't degrade easily if at all from the factory installed version. Android 11 is a nightmare.
Start like this...
Clear system cache.
Fixed?
Try in safe mode, if this resolves it, it's likely a 3rd party app you loaded.
If it still is doing it in safe mode, it's a factory loaded or system app.
Go to Device Care>Memory, clear the apps.
Back out of it then open it again.
Expand the list and see if you can spot the app doing it as it loads. Disable that suspect app(s) to confirm if it's the culprit. A package disabler app is very nice to have when doing this.
With some persistence you will find it.

The easy way...
Go to a Samsung Experience center at Best Buy and have a Samsung tech run a diagnostic on it.
They can likely spot it.

On Battery and device care, click on bar graph in top.
Check the app issue, maybe will show your bad app.

Maybe but many apks are lumped together in Android Services. It's likely one of them or a Google app.
Problem apps don't always show under their name... that happens sometimes with the Google system apps.

Same here, S21+. After August update I've had the same issue as you, plus youtube fullscreen exiting every ~5 mins, Google Maps minimizing to window every ~5 mins, massive (2s+) freezes in games. None of this existed prior to this update. Someone messed up big time.
I installed the October update yesterday - to no avail, the issue persists.

If you mean power saving, then no, that's not the case. System cache clear didn't help either but I've just cleared the phone (factory reset), restored data with Smart Switch and looks like this helped. Gonna test it a bit more to confirm the solution.

Good. I avoid doing all firmware updates if my OS is running fast, stable and fulfilling its mission. Security is not an issue as best I can tell unless you do something stupid*.
Updates can do a lot of damage... if you like your OS, let it be.
*always backup critical data redundantly to at least 2 hhds that are physically and electronically isolated from each other and the PC.
You can use a OTG flashstick for quick "dirty" backups, but have the bulk of the backup on data hdds.
I use my SD card as a data drive on my N10+'s, then backup that card. That's why I demand a SD card slot; dual drive setups are the only way to go. The OS, apps, and the temporary download folder are the only things on the internal memory.
In crashes the data drive is usually spared. I can do a full manual restore from that data drive minus a few lost settings.

On my S21 Ultra (SM-G998B/DS) I have the same issue with "background activity" creating screen hick/refresh and switch from landscape full screen video to portrait mode.
Started after November security FW update end October.
Checked all possible settings and removing all 3rd party apps, hick-ups do persist...
