Hey guys, something happened to my Moto G this morning and now it won't turn on. This has happened to me previously as well where the battery drained and charging it sorted the problem out.
But this time the battery was fully charged and now it won't turn on, neither does the screen light up when I connect it to the charger (with the 0% battery logo).
Something to note - I got an update from the play store for Motorola Boot Services. My phone restarted once and showed me the new boot animation (World Cup). Then it just went dead. Not sure if this has to do something with it.
I was running stock with an unlocked bootloader, root and twrp. XT1033 dual SIM.
Any suggestions will be appreciated. Any way to at least get the phone back to stock so I can take it back to Motorola.

The phone just won't turn on. Not even bootloader mode. Strangely the phone feels warm as if it is being used. I'm going to let it stay and hopefully it will completely drain out and then I'll try charging it.

Try again, with the device connected to the charger. This should perform a reset and a force boot, so it's just like removing the battery, If no luck, try to recover your bootloader by following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2623587
Press power and volume down keys for about 30-45 seconds and then release. This will turn of the device and then reboot to bootloader automatically. If this doesnt work, it should be a problem with the screen.
I've updated my boot services today and it didn't cause any trouble so far.
My advice is to leave it for few hours on the charger if it's really showing the charging picture and it shows 0% there.
Hello! First of all, sorry for my bad english
It all started when i unplugged my moto g from charger, the charger and the phone were way too hot. After that the phone won't boot up. Only the white led is turning on when the charger is plugged, if you press the power button or any combination of buttons nothing happens. So i went to the Motorola assistance, they wanted to charge me 360 R$ which is about 100$ dollars. They said my board burned . They also said they found some water damage but when i opened it everything was perfect. Nothing smelling like toasted or any sign of water damage.. So any ideas? I already tried holding power for 2 minutes, volume down and then power, put it on a stronger charger (1A from a Zenfone).
I'm not buying the burned board cause it turned on, for just a day after the assistance diagnostics ..
Again, just to be clear, the led isn't blinking like the battery died...
You could be one of those unlucky ones that bought a Moto G with a faulty motherboard that won't come back to life after their battery dies. Or maybe you didn't do the method correct?

I don't think so, the phone died before but always returned to life. I did a lot of methods, none worked. Power for 2 minutes, vol down then power, unplug the battery put the charger and then put the battery, i already leaved it on the charger for more than 12 hours and nothing. Only thinking working its that ****ing white light..
Was your phone unlocked? It's odd that a phone melt down just like that.

Nope, not even rooted, not even apps outside play store
What was your phone usage that day.
I think everyone's phone do get hot when 3g/4g data is enabled.
My phone gets too heated up after playing coc for like one hour (sometime on charge or battery)

Normal use, only listening to music and stuff. I was at home so it wasn't connected to 3g.. I put it on charger with 5~~10% of battery left and 2 hours later the charger and the phone were burning. I unplugged and that was it, only the led turning on with the charger on and nothing else.
Have you tried replacing old battery with new battery??

No it actually has notification led in the speaker section.
If you rooted Moto G you could download Moto X Led app from playstore and it works.

yes i know that there is LED in the speaker section, but that's not a notification led.. its an accu led
it only works when you are charging your phone.

The LED only works when you are connected to external power and on a custom ROM... on stock it can't work (if it does, the phone is broken), on custom ROMs it can be used as a charging indicator, it has only one color so it will just light when external power is connected. The only thing the LED is connected to is the charging circuit, although some ROMs can use that for notification while the power is connected, buy basically turning it on and off repeatedly, but most ROMs have given up trying to implement it since it is so inconsistent. It is not very useful at all.

Hardware defect in most cases, short on main board most likely.

Disconnect your USB cable, is it still lit? The LED is a charging indicator in some ROMs but the fact that it is on when powered off is odd. If the LED is lit and no USB cable is connected and the power is off, this sounds like an electrical issue inside the device but to be sure I would do a full factory image flash and test it.
We all know it has an LED, have for some time... but it is hard wired to the charging circuit so when activated it only shows charging status and nothing else. If yours is one all the time, it could indicate a problem with the hardware.

It looks white. Even mine just flashed up one day for 0.5 seconds. You can do it to. Just discharge your phone completely until it turn off automatically then goto a very dark room cause the light is to dim and then plug your phone. You will see it flashed up for one second
Does that mean a USB cable isn't required to make it glow
Since you can't touch the battery, I suggest you discharge it it completely . Keep it mines it can be dangerous though.
Hi
It glows even if i switch off the phone. I have asked Flipkart to replace my handset. But they were trying to say that i should take it up with the company. I was stern and asked them to replace it since it is just 15 days since i brought the phone. They have told me that they will send the engg. tomorrow. Will keep you guys posted.

Same issue !!!
Even I have the same issue since yesterday .. LED is always ON even after powering off the device. Any Idea how to resolve this issue ??
Did you get any solutions for this ?? I am also facing the same issue , I did a factory reset. But the problem still exists.

It's applicable also to Moto G 3rd gen.
If with
echo none >/sys/class/leds/charging/trigger
LED stays on, it must be an hardware failure.
I have the same problem! Since two days ago the front LED is always switched on!
Weird, it popped up just an hr ago in my moto g, gen 3 as well bought in India, via Flipkart and won't go away. It has a flickering (seemingly pseudo random) characteristic in periodicity as well as luminosity potentially indicating a short-circuit of led power-circuit behind front speaker(s) or worse, some fourier optical-transmission pattern. It flickers even when powered off and that says something about this LED behind front-speakers. A factory reset also did nothing to it.
Hey guys! I aslo facing the same problem.i tried every thing except Root. I have tried power off, battery 100% drain, factory reset but nothing can stop led. please suggest if any one have its solution
i have tried these apps, and one of the kernel for our device can turn it on without any app, but what i want is enable without any mod or app.

Hey man did you managed to solve this issue? My led started glowing a few hours ago, I have 3 months with the phone.
Hi all,
is the issue still solved? today my phone has started to show the same thing, even after it's powered off the led still glows mildly. it's been 5 months i'm using it. I've wiped data, cache, system parititions then flashed a stock LP rom but the issue still exists. From custom Kernel if the 'Battery Light' option is turned ON when the phone is being charged it glows brightly. It's really uncomfortable to see it's lit all the time. I wish I could have removed that LED light from there lol
Anyone please have a look
Hi!
I have the same problem with the white led. I contacted Motorola Support (in Canada) and I got to send my phone to a service center. I just got my phone back and they say it's not repairable because of a liquid damage to the main board. The thing, my phone never got wet!
I don't know if others who contacted Motorola got the same result...
I just had one start doing it too... if warranty won't replace it then I think I will damage the LED to try and disable it to hopefully rid of any extra battery drain.
EDIT: Well i'm not sure about this because i was thinking about drilling with a super small bit down to the LED to disable it, however i don't know how the earpiece speaker functions and whether it would damage it's function as well.
My notification led suddenly got turned on and and its not turning off. I didint apply any settings to turn it on. It keeps on, even when the phone is switched off. I tried clearing cache and dalvik cache, but no use. Please some one help me. Its been now around 12 hours.
Pls help
Unplug your charger... Should fix it.
Or if you're on a custom ROM disable it in the settings
Other wise install moto led app
Bro.. there is no charger connected. Even when the phone is switched off, the led is on. I tried the led app, nothing changes.

well than its a hardware defect. i heard it also turnes on when battery is to low to even power the display but idk,
Did the phone become wet recently? Sometime ago one person reported that after his phone was dropped in water, the led turned on and didn't turn back off. If even a factory reset dosen't turn it off now, sadly I guess you may have to send it to Moto.
Broadcasted from Zeta Reticuli
Same problem with LED on Moto G 2015
My daughters phone has this same problem, just turned on one day and has never turned off even when powered off. I would like to avoid rooting, but would if needed in order to use some of the apps available but require root. Have not factory reset yet. Maybe opening it up and disconnecting the battery. Any ideas. Thanks
Same thing happened to me about three months ago. I had the phone in my pocket while working in the yard. I guess I was sweating too much, phone was wet when I took out out. The LED was on and stayed that way for a while, although it did get dimmer over the next few weeks. Finally after about a month, the LED went out and hasn't turned back on since. Just give it time and see what happens.
Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
same thing happened to me, I was unaware of the fact that moto g3 has a led, it would be on even when the phone is switched off, but after days the led faded away on its own but not completely I until I rooted and tried different ROMs, now on stock ROM and the led is no more shining.
