I got a LG p500. This is my 1st android phone and I found that "rooting" is the way to go. I googled and I cant really find a good list benefits that rooting can give me. Over the risk involved, that's a lot.
Now let me ask this first, as a casual user, what other benefits can rooting give me? I heard that I need to root before I can install apps to SD but I got an app that can do that. So what else?
What scares me is that I found a lot of posts that says that they got their LG p500 bricked. But reading this forums, I found that there mis now a one click root but I dont see the name of my phone in the compatibility list. Can anyone help me?
I'm not asking for you too spoon feed me, I'm just asking for a right amount of guidance. Thanks in advance!!
Nothing wrong with being a newb... gotta start somewhere, right?
Honestly, if you can do all that you need/want right now without rooting then don't root. Really rooting it is if you want to get into mod'ing, hacking and deep tech-ness from your device. There are some apps out there that require root in order to run, but as you said, you're a casual user.
If you do want to get into mod/hack/tech-guru-ness/etc. more and can wait til there is a safer one-click solution for your device, wait. Don't want to brick and [possibly] void the warranty right?
Best of luck and welcome to the fold, my friend.

Actually, I just wanna do most of the stuff my phone will allow me, I dont like to be just 'scratching the surface' I wanna go deep and understand android.
with that said, I have used the z4 root, the 1 click root i got from this forums. it worked well. I have also spent a good few hours fixing my adb and i think i got it to work.
Now the problem is the 3 button boot. everytime i do it, my whole phone gets wiped, i figured i'm doing something wrong but what? how can i fix this? thanks in advance!
Hi,
I've tried the root procedure a few times now and something is going wrong but I don't know what....I'm not skilled enough to know what should be happening...I've rooted my phone...but that was easy compared to this...
Could someone do a short vid showing what it looks like when you do the rooting procedure for a TF?
Check whether you have the latest update (.13). I believe the current rooting procedure will not work once that was applied.
ah...I'm sure that's it....thanks.
plz delete
Well I AM running the .13 update....darn!
But it would be good to see a video anyway....I've never rooted like this and I'm a command line noob....
Hello fellow xoom owners... I've had my xoom for awhile now but was hesitant to root because of nagging wife and children who also use xoom. But I'm a "rooter" and I can't take it anymore ...lol. I'm not new to rooting except for xoom as I'm not experienced in adb and what not... so if anyone can help I would be greatly appreciative. I've looked at plenty of tutorials and only found a select few that are simple but losing data is a "requirement"... Anyways as stated earlier any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Idk how I got here...
You will lose data because when you fastboot unlock it wipes the xoom. What you can do is back up your internal data n your computer. After youre done rooting put everything back. Your apps will have to be redownloaded from the play store.

What version of Android are you on?
Currently I'm on 4.1.1 jr003h...
Idk how I got here...

Its for the galaxy nexus but should work for a Xoom. Basically with 4.0+ we can now do full backups without needing to be unlocked/rooted, you just need adb to be set up.
Thanks for the link. But I'm not really familiar with adb. Guess I am a noob lol

There's no reason to fear adb. It's very easy to set up and to use. After installation, you basically copy-paste the instructions. When I say it's easy, I mean it, last week I didn't have any idea of the existence of adb. An hour after I read about it, I managed to start using it. It's that easy!
I paste you the links I found useful (basically how to use it and how to install it).

I think I'm going to try to make a complete backup this weekend, just to see how much time it takes. But my device is already unlocked and rooted, so I suppose if you decide to try it, it would be on your risk.
Thanks for the links. As soon as I get home I'll read it and see where to go from there. If I'm brave enough to go through with it lol
idk how I got here...
Just word of advice, if you're rooting for the hell of rooting it and you don't need it, I did say (from personal opinion) forget it.
Ok on topic, adb is fairly safe I never heard of anyone bricking their device using adb commands unless they moved some system files (don't know if that's even possible with no root).
Ok, I'm not sure if it's that hardly anyone has this phone or what. But I cant find any good info on rooting this phone.
Poople say they've tried every possible method that doesnt work.
Does ANYONE know a way to root this phone? I dont see how different models of phones can effect the difficulty in rooting it, I mean Android is Android.
Someone plz help

I hope this work
Hello! I have Desire 601 and i would like to know how to root it because i need several programs which want root access. The root process was very easy on my old Galaxy Y. But i read that on HTCs i need to unlock bootloader, to flash recovery.img via PC and etc. I'm a bit of a rookie when it comes to that sort of things. So please if someone can explain how to root my phone step by step WITHOUT bricking it i will be very grateful. Thanks in advice!
Anyone? Perhaps you guys just don't like newbies like me. Anyway i will try my luck elsewhere. Thanks, i guess.
