I reckon if you're on stock NRD90M.G920VVRS4DQD1 your bootloader is locked.
isn't it possible to downgrade and upgrade Verizon roms for the G6 as long as we remain anove 5.1.1?
by the way, there are two Nougat roms available for the G6 over at samsung-updates, one ends in ...DQD1 and the otherone ends i ...DQE1.
There is a root from Vhai fire for the ...DQD1, not for the other one, but... because both roms are Verizon's and meant for the same device, flashing either one shouldn't brick the device, because both have Verizon's digital signature.

You could downgrade to the OK7 firmware and root that. The string attached is that you will need to run MrMike2182's rootatboot script every time you want to boot the phone.

I know it trips KNOX but i don't really care. i just dont want a brick.

S6 root only runs under android 5.1.1 also you need a vm to flash the kernel to the phone. Us cellular is root-friendly. Only at&t and verizon and sprint and T-Mobile lock their bootloaders.

Chainfire just runs an automated script which generates a CF-Auto-Root file for ANY model, whether the bootloader is locked or not.
So the answer is, he didn't unlock it, but simply generated a file regardless, and it's up to the user to figure out the their bootloader status.

Same as Verizon, it's locked down tightly.
Your best bet would be a Sprint version, which has an unlocked bootloader and can be unlocked for both GSM (ATT /TMO) and LTE (VZW) with the proper equipment (unlocking boxes). Or the Tmobile version also has an unlocked bootloader which can be unlocked using online unlocking services but it will only work with GSM cards (ATT/TMO, no VZW!). Both can be rooted via CF-Auto-Root and/or through custom recovery.

Okay, thank you for replying. This makes the decision to root a little harder since I want to keep getting updates and for that you'll need ClockWork (and the people who are pushing the update to XDA)(Clockwork does have the nandroid backup though, which I want to have when rooting), which doesn't run very stable last time I read (I rooted before, but then I sent my tab back (heat problems) and got a new one. I flashed a beta ROM xd).

Isn't it enough to have the original Kernel and ROM? Do you really need a locked bootloader to get OTA updates?

As this doesn't effect the Kernel, OTA updates might work if rooting works with this method.
I've not tried it. I've read some people are bricking their tablets with the universal, and since the A700 is basically a brick waiting to happen, I think I'll pass on it for a while.
I have a unlocked At&T HOX ...i think it is network unlocked...I did it by entering a code and the phone is working fine here in India with other networks..

I came to know that there is a update for HOX with 4.0.4 and i think 2.22...
My question is..as i unlocked it...If I update my mobile to this new version..does it get blocked\bricked....what are the safety measures to be taken..please explain...
I am scared to do as I don't have good enough knowledge...
Also, if the update is succesful am i supposed to unlock it again...if so, will the existing unlock code work??

You should unlock your bootloader first. It sounds like you are just sim unlocked. You also won't get an OTA if you are using a different carrier so you would need to run the RUU. I have never sim unlocked a phone before, but I would guess you might have to reenter your sim unlock code again.
I mainly took the 2.20 RUU for running on AT&T network, which I think was an improvement over 1.85. Since you are not on AT&T I would recommend unlocking your bootloader, and flashing a radio that's best suited for your carrier. If you take the 2.20 RUU you won't be able to flash radios anymore.

Are you currently rooted? I would unlock your bootloader and do SuperCID before doing any updates. That way you can always root your phone.

I wouldn't recommend 2.20. Once you run the 2.20 you have to flash the boot.img for any ROM manually (so you can't use restore a backup on the go without a computer) and you can't flash radios at all. Being that he is using this phone internationally, being able to flash radios may be pretty important.

what i said.
not being able to flash boot.img in recovery is the most annoying aspect of flashing the 2.20 ruu when you are already bootloader unlocked.

No I didn't root it...I got the phone and unlock code (Seller sent both to me)...once i got it just inserted other carrier sim and unlocked the phone...apart from this I didn't do anything...it is as it is...As another friend mentioned, I think I did SIM\Network Unlock...

I don't really know what to tell you. You should do some more research first. We told you already what you "should" do.
root, unlock bootloader, flash recovery, flash custom rom, if you have trouble with network try different radios. do not take an ota or ruu, i am sure you will regret it.

There really is no reason to ruu.... Just unlock your bootloader, superCID then just flash a custom rom

Once u get into this realm of playing with your phone their is always a chance of bricking it with a phone like this do hard research and get to know it before u start f'ing with it or ull be one if those people that sees android revolution and think oh wow I loved that Rom on my inspire! Ok. SO how do i know if it´s unlocked? Because i bought this s6 used....
The problem is the Verizon S6 family is currently unable to have modified bootloader files as no one has found a way to change them with or without tripping Knox, the security suite on our phones. Hell, everything updated past Firmware update OF1 isn't even rooted yet and no one is sure when or if we will even have one. Basically what I'm saying is, there is no way for you to get the international ROM onto your phone unless you just happened to either crack the system yourself or the person you got it from managed to find a way without telling the world about it.
Word of advice, you can have a phone that is rooted with a flashed ROM but still have a locked bootloader. In our case it was due to an exploit that was patched.

I just switched from my crappy HTC One X to my new Moto G3 and I'm in love!
I don't really want a custom ROM, but I'd like to undervolt this babe. But since a root requires unlocking the bootloader = voiding the manufacturers warranty, I don't really wanna do that..
I've bought it over Amazon and I live in the EU, so I technically still have the retailer's warranty and Amazon would replace it without a hassle, but yeah.. it's new and all.
But I know there are apps like towelroot, KingRoot and what not, do they work with the Moto G3? I'm on 5.1.1.

On previous versions of Android there were exploits that allowed rooting the phone without unlocking the bootloader, which means you could keep your warranty and I just asked if it works on the current Moto G3 with Lollipop 5.1, why do you have to be such a smartass? It's a normal question, why can't I have a normal answer?
I used to root in one click in just one method on my previous phone xperia sp but i dont know this phone have any toll which will work or not?

Being a smartass is kind of my thing.
You're afraid to unlock your device's bootloader because you'll lose the warranty, but you're perfectly fine with risking the security of your device by rooting it, right? Seems odd to me, but whatever.
Generally speaking, both KingRoot and TowelRoot are used on devices where using those two methods are the only way to root those devices.
Unlocking the bootloader will have no ill effect on your device other than voiding the warranty, and, if you're worried about voiding your warranty, you shouldn't be trying to modify your device.
In the words of the always optimistic Ms. Frizzle: "Take chances, make mistakes, and get messy!"

Who said I'm afraid of unlocking the bootloader? Who said I never unlocked the bootloader of other phones before?
I just don't wanna lose my warranty in the first two or three months, in case my phone breaks unexpectedly, I also don't plan on using custom roms, I just want the root features so I can undervolt like I said and IF I could root it permanently without unlocking the bootloader, why not?
I'm not worried, it would just be convenient to have root without losing the warranty, that's it.
As far as I know you may be able to do it search kingroot in Google then download the apk and install it then open in and follow the instructions

Then leave the device stock ...
If you want the best of both worlds (root & warranty), then go buy a Nexus. Motorola drew a line in the sand as to what they will support, while still empowering owners with the option to unlock the bootloader.

Not really. While I've unlocked my previous phones, my new g3 I'm leaving locked for the first year, while the warranty lasts. But this site still has a few helpful stuff.

Towelroot is exploiting a bug in the Linux Kernel in order to root a device. This bug was already fixed in June 2014.
On all Kernels with a later build date Towelroot will most likely not work.
For sure it will not work on the Moto G3 with a kernel build date more than one year after this bug was fixed.

It's probably been answered already but those exploits are security flaws with the SE Linux system and so with each release of android these have been patched, by 5.1 these security holes have been fixed and now by locking the bootloader
It's like just locking down and modifications to the system partition so unfortunately you can't root without unlocking, unless you have android versions lower down

What version of TWRP did you use coz I know there were some bugs on the moto range with TWRP 2.X.
I would completely wipe device using stock recovery, including dalvic/cache/data everything just to be on the safe side, then download the TWRP zip to your computer and flash it on using ADB.
Boot up normally and move the superSU zip from the link to your phones internal storage. Then reboot to TWRP, select install and pick the zip file.

Perhaps you can offer wisdom on this? I rooted my Moto G 3rd Gen once, wrecked something and had to go back to factory, then try to reroot again. Problem. No matter what I do in setting the device back to factory, the bootloader stays unlocked and reads the system software as "modified" which then seems to bork installing SuperSU. I install SuperSU via twrp and it goes fine, no errors, but when I reboot the system is lost in a loop of the "bootloader unlocked" screen.
So I cannot RE-lock the bootloader (ala setting the phone back to true factory) and after I flash SuperSU the phone refuses to successfully bootup.
Any aid? Ideas?
I had failed to backup my phone the first time with twrp and so to set to factory I downloaded the stock retail xml.zip for my phone and reflashed the entire thing via fastboot. Reinstall twrp, and try to root and the endless boot loop begins.
So I came to this thread to look into the possibility rooting my phone via another means that MIGHT work.
hello i got a s7 from straight talk . and it model is SM-G930VL
what does that follow under .. i was thinking verizon but verizon doesnt have the L in it . Also would i be able to root using that method that in the forum . also Which roms would i be able to use when i root it?

It should be under the Verizon model. Usually tracfone does not lock the bootloaders on their variant. On another thread a guy flashed the verizon firmware to this model with no bricks and issue. but doing that WILL lock the bootloader. I hope he responds to my post. want to know to what extent it was flashed and if knox got tripped.

would you be able to show me the right direction to where he got the method to root his.? also if you learn anything else from him . can you let me know. so this mean I have an unlock bootloader? doesn't that mean I can root easier?

I should be able to get one of these mids august hopefully and will use it as a test device to see what bricks it and what hack can be done. In the past tracfone has release the SM-S975L(Tracfone Unlocked bootloader) which equals to an SGH-I337 (AT&T Locked bootloader), they released the S5 & S6 which equal to the SM-G900V and SM-G920V, both have Unlocked bootloaders. So i dnt think the S7 is any different and equals to the SM-G930V. Any root method that works for the SM-G930V should work on the SM-G930VL. But again this is just my say based on past experiences, i wont know until i get the phone and try all this. For what I know so far he was able to flash the complete verizon firmware which i think will flash a locked bootloader and no going back after it.

So i was able to flash the full latest verizon firmware and fully ended up converting the phone to an SM-G930V. SO provided that you flash the firmware on which root was achieved for the SM-G930V, then there is really no stopping you from rooting this phone. As expected due to flashing the verizon firmware the phone has a locked bootloader now but root was achieved regardless.
Proceed at your own risk.
I have the Sm-g930vl (tracfone) and would like to confirm the bootloader is unlocked. I can boot into both recovery and download mode but cannot connect with fastboot to get device info. Is there another way to check?

Bootloader is locked and cannot be unlocked. Samsung devices do no use fastboot.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if I can edit the build.prop with adb without rooting? I've never messed with Samsung. Seems a different beast.

No way you can modify build.prop without root. What are you trying to accomplish?

I was hoping to enable hotspot. I've read where people have flashed the 930u firmware and can enable it but I'm already on Nougat even on tracfone firmware.

I see, the only way I see this working for you is by third apps or flash a firmware that supports it.
