Since there is a temptation to use open wifi sources with our phones, I was wondering if there is a firewall program that can protect the phone from the network it is connected to?
Also, does there exist a good call recorder program? Particularly one that you can set to record automatically based on caller id. I.e. if a call comes in (or is made) from a particular phone number as soon as the call is connected the recording starts.
Short answer no & no.
Unfortunately call recording in general sucks. I've only heard of apps that work with speaker phone. I'm told it's an os level design decision.

Yeah, could you imagine the problems if phone companies allowed anyone to record voice conversations.
I was about to argue with you and then I realized what you did. Nice.
I installed Skype onto my rooted Galaxy SIII running 4.1.2 and ParanoidAndroid 2.56, my call quality is excellent through my cell line however trying to use Skype for video calls on my device leaves nothing but static on the other end. Even when I stay totally silent, the receiving line will not hear a peep but once I raise my voice, the white noise comes out to wreak havoc and does not stop until I mute the microphone in-call. Un-muting will only bring back the white noise. I can hear my caller just fine, but he cannot hear me. I have tried calling and receiving both ways through Wi-Fi, LTE and 3G connections to no avail.
I have also reset the dalvik cache and fixed permissions, in addition to disabling noise cancellation through the Call Settings on my phone. I'm running the kernel which came with my ROM, which I honestly cannot remember what it is. Would flashing another kernel help with a problem like this or would it only solve issues through my cell number's telephony? I have excellent call quality through my cell phone, but Skype itself leaves nothing but static even when I am not speaking. I would try to clean both my microphone holes on the bottom and the top if the static were to be on my cell telephony but it seems like it is only limited to Skype itself. I may try and back up my ROM through CWM recovery and wipe the system.
Anyone else experience an issue such as this and could give advice?
I use the Skype version found here:

I was having the same problem until I enabled Use MODE_IN_CALL found in the Sound Section of Advanced Settings. Hope this helps!

Does it get worse when you lock/unlock your screen or there is activity in your phone? Also, can you still hear it when not making a call or not playing a sound?
i hear it ONLY when i make a call, activity on screen or phone don't do anything
try turning off VoLTE and and see if it makes a difference.
VOLTE should be in call settings? i don't have it, maybe in my country i have only internet LTE, not VOLTE, anyway i can't find this in english language and my national..
i can say also that when i remove nano sim from phone and try to make a call, in this 3 seconds after call go down i hear this sound too.
if i can switch off volte like quick settings -> icon LTE and disable it isn't work
i try to change network mode and on all (WCDMA,GSM,LTE) its the same - nth works.

Some device's DAC generates a low white noise to prevent discomfort, I dont know if thats the case since I didn't receive my device yet. Try making a call with skype or gTalk, Facebook or listen a voice message in whatsapp via the earpiece (just cover the proximity sensor to send audio to earpiece).
I might be having a similar problem. My speakers are fine while playing music/videos, but during calls every time a noise is made (but not during silence!) there's a fuzzy sound in the background. Almost as if the process of generating sound causes it.
Mazbot i don't must try on other app, i can just go settings->about phone->diagnostic->->test device->ear speaker and i hear this to, i check in service menu by *#*#7378423#*#* -> still the same
( btw in service menu we can check our waterproof -> go pressure sensor, put it on desk, when phone is waterproof numbers will growing when u press phone by hand , if not number will be the same)
msxghost i ask my friend about that, and he told me that he have the same effect.. but i did'nt check by my own
i don't send phone to service, they probably broken it more or DHL do it, heh but only in my country probably
nice in poland where i live this phone cost 1 good salary and things like this, i trust sony again after my xperia s, where wasn't be systems update.. never sony again
Hello,
Recently I noticed that when I put a call on speaker, I can hear just fine, but the person on the other end can't hear me at all, and in some cases report a loud, windy noise. I don't understand what's causing this, as the normal phone works fine, the microphone records my voice clearly when using a voice recorder, and the video camera records sounds flawlessly.
Could this be an issue with the network? Or does the speakerphone use a separate microphone? Maybe the phone's hardware/software?

I have the same issue with a brand new Z3 from Tmobile as well. Guess what, so does my wife who ordered one on the same day!
The issue we have is that if you switch the phone to speakerphone, there's this crazy background noise that makes hearing someone completely impossible. I read on a different forum that the fix is to go to SETTINGS/CALL SETTINGS/ and turn off the Microphone Noise Canceler. While that does drop the noise out completely, the lack of a noise canceler means the other person can now hear themselves talking when on the phone with you.
I also tried another setting someone recommended which is called CLEAR+, but that sadly didn't have any effect at all.
Anyone else figured this out?
I know this post is old but I seem to have the same problem (minus the noise you guys describe). During an in ear call, the conversation is crystal clear both ways, it is when i place the call on speaker that the other end cannot hear me.
Searching for a solution, I came up with two (some say the OK GOOGLE works perfect, while for others it has no impact).
I have tried the OK Google 'fix' unfortunately, this did not work on my handset. Google app > Settings > Voice > OK Google Detection (switch off)
What seemed to "help" (didn't really fix the problem though) is going into Google Music app > Equalizer > Mic sensitivity > High
While the person on the other end can now hear me, it seems my voice is not too crisp and clear. Not sure what else to do in order to get the mic to work properly over speaker.
Device:
Pixel 4a (no 5G)
Android 11
My issue is:
If I talk to someone (call) it transfer just the "voice" the noise between is cutted out, so its like muted between spoken words.
Its not an good thing!
The issue is that it is just awful to call someone actually its not possible to talk, the beginning of each sentence is "broken" and its like half word then mute, so i have to ask again... and so on.
I tested diffrent things:
Call over LTE
Call over WiFi
Call with Heatset (wired)
Call with Bluetooth Headset
Call without headset
Its always the same nonsense, so I assume its some Android problem, setting maybe.
Can someone help please?
Thanks
