ok, so I bought this new Asus Eee Pad TF101 about three months ago. I had running the original OS until yesterday when they kept sending me the message that I should update my firmware. So that is what I did. Not to mention that I had all kinds of aps and of course games like create your own zoo and stuff like that which might not seem all that much but anyways; so everything was going pretty good even though i wasn't quite stoked about the new update, until this noon when I tried to open my tablet from a standby mode. That is when all happened. It kept rebooting in a loop over and over a gain; so I went into recovery mode (volume button - ) and it started just like when i bought redoing all those steps.
my aps started downloading again but of course with no saved games and what not.
now what could i have done differently? is it because of the recovery mode that i lost all the current positions in the aps that i had??? for example even in a "french language pack" that i bought i didn't have any of my exercises saved, mistakes and so on...
and the other question is...can i get it back? somehow? or it is just lost?
P.S. i didn't mess with the tablet at all; i just let it be with all the factory settings given at the beginning.

It's pretty normal when you get a system update, that all of your apps and data could be lost. If you had root access, you can (and should) make a backup of everything before you run the update. A good app for this (if not the best) is the pro version of Titanium Backup, which can be found in the market. There's also myBackUpPro and a few others, but TiBu si the best IMO.
Without root access, you're pretty much just screwed. There's not alot you can do. You could have migrated all of your apps and data to an sd-card, but as far as I know, most backup utilities need root access to fully function. I could be wrong there, it would be worth a try. Look for myBackup or TitaniumBu in the market.

But yeah, maybe you want to wait for major software updates before upgrading firmware. Then at least it would be worthwhile.

I'm wondering if anyone else has experieneced these issues, i'm going to do a clean wipe which will likely sort it, but:
A few days ago I noticed when I try to open a game, the surface would think for a few seconds, then crash to the desktop (not the metro menu but stright to teh desktop). Now it seems to do it almost everytime I open any app. Also despite me having internet connection (confirmed by the wireless setting menu) neither internet explorer or desktop IE will open, and no app will acknowledge the internet connection.
These probelms are fixed by a restart but only for an hour or so.
I'm quite disappointed because the surface has been great for a good month but now i'm just getting more an more frustrated - it's meant to save time, not waste it!
Anyway, anyone else seen these issues?
Mine has not shown anything like that yet fortunately.
I understand your frustration when this marvelous piece of productivity and entertainment work starts to fail on you.

maybe you should send it for replacement...

no such issue with my Surface RT, enjoying every moment with it, just bought an xbox Kinetic and the smart glass works like a charm...
my son is playing all the games he can and he tend to leave them running in the background, even with that its not slow or sluggish...
Sounds like you have a recently installed app that has made your Surface unstable. Can you trace back when it started and look at your installed apps. I hvae experienced the crashing to start menu when trying to open a program (ie 10) , but I did a restart and that solved it, not to come back.

I would definitely try this. I had installed the Bento app and noticed some weirdness myself, exceptions, system rebooting outta blue. Uninstalled it and things were back to normal.

I did a quick format in the end, it seemed to take longer than I expected but all is back to normal.
Surely an odd bad app should affect anything, all apps are ran in their own sandbox aren't they? And I thought Microsoft vetted for apps like that. I might start installing my old apps to see what caused it...
I do like the fact that all the app data is stored and accessible, it made backing up game saves as simple as copy and paste.
So I am trying to see if I can figure out if I can take the game saves from one of the games I am playing on my phone and move them to my laptop and it seems like Helium will do the trick (I am NOT rooted). Anyway, I got it running fine on my GS3, but I can;t seem to get it to work on the tablet. It just gets stuck at the point where it is looking to be connected to my PC.
Is there something that I am missing?
I'm super confused by this? I haven't played for years but need to get back into it as me and a team are opening a gaming bar in Leeds, UK.
Basically, I open the app, it loads fine, and then within 5-15 seconds it gives me the attatced error screen every time without fail. Do any fellow players have the same issue right now?
I know a guy who bought his in China and he got the same error message but that is obviously because of server mismatch.
Just intrigued as to what's happening here. I've done all the usual (reinstalled, removed cache/storage) but still no luck. If anybody could be of assistance that would be fantastic. Many thanks guys and gals.

I ( old lady here) I managed to re "route" my HD8 to "android" . When I bought it I had mistakenly checked of the check box to be able to access my library. I realized this when I was beginning to read abut routing.. so I went in and Unregistered the unit. Then I routed and it seems to work fine except I still want to pul the mic out of it because I had and Alexa Video app pop up the other day and I shut it off but it makes me suspicious. BUT back to what I'm asking.. I know I can put my books on it via a cable but what APP can I use to read them? I know your all well beyond this point but I'm trying here! Thank you very much if you can help me. I worked on Dinosaur computers back in the day... and have tried to keep a bit abreast but know when I"m just hanging on !
