Solved: Waze on the S8 and audio when BT connected - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

I did extensive searching on this and no help so I thought I would try here.
I had Waze on my old S6 and was able to configure waze to send turn by turn directions and alerts through the phone speaker even if the phone is BT connected to the car by configuring waze settings.
Now that I migrated to the S8, Waze will not put out any sound to the phone speaker or the car speakers whens BT connected. It is totally silent. If not BT connected, it will speak through the phone.
I tried the same procedure I used on the S6 to get the audio through the phone speaker.
Anyone have similiar problems and find a solution?

I haven't tried that yet, I usually let it talk through BT but I'll see if I can get it to work so we know if it's a common problem.
Edit: I checked the slider over to sound to speaker and it worked fine for me, sorry.

Settings > Sound and voice > play sound to speaker?

Thank you. Yes, Settings > Sound & Voice > Play sound to speaker has a green, checked button that is swiped to the right. App Volume is set to max. Also Sound it set to "Sound on"

I did some more experimentation.
First, I discovered that under Waze ==> Settings ==> Sound & Voice, you must turn off "Play sound to phone speaker". If you have this on, or green, Waze will NOT provide sound guidance through the phone speakers, BT connected or not. Odd I thought.
Second, with the "Play sound to phone speaker" tuned off, and the phone BT connected to the car, if I put the audio source on the car to BT, the navigation voice does indeed go to the car speakers.
I still have not figured out how to force waze to send the navigation sounds through the phone speakers while the phone is BT connected. I prefer it go through the phone speakers, as I would like to set the car to other audio sources instead of BT.

I'm having the same issue with Google Maps. My S6 was able to send the sounds through the speaker instead of Bluetooth but it seems to longer be possible on the S8... The setting used to be in Google Maps but it's no longer there.

Solution found!
I put in a ticket to Waze support and this absolutely cured it.
1. If you are using a voice (I was) that has including street names under the title, please tap Menu > and type [email protected] in the Search bar. This will clear your cache in Waze and should resolve the issue. To check if you're using this type of voice, tap Menu > Settings > Sound and check which voice you're using underneath Voice Directions.
2. Restart Waze
3. Turn on Settings > Sound and voice > play sound to speaker
Enjoy turn by turn navigation while the phone is BT connected to the car and is playing some other audio source.

GPS audio over BT

The phone is connected to my car via bluetooth. Whenever I use the Google navigation (it happens to work just fine) and receive a call, the GPS audio starts blasting through the car speakers (while I'm on a call). There is no way to route the nav audio to car speakers otherwise or shut it up while on a call and driving. This "implementation" is nothing if not completely idiotic..
Anyone know of a workaround?

Are you saying that the navigation audio continues while you are on a phone call? I guess a workaround would be to manually mute navigation audio when you get a call.
If my interpretation of your post is correct, that sounds like a bug more than an implementation. How terrible.

Yep! And it so happens that by default that horrible, metallic voice is much louder over the car speakers than the voice of your calling party.
I guess a workaround would be to manually mute navigation audio when you get a call.

I'm not sure that screwing around with the phone to adjust only the nav volume, while talking and driving may be a viable option for everyone (anyone?). Not safe.
This really is a bad oversight by Samsung's product team.
Do you play music while using google navigate over BT as well? Is that possible?

This could be a Google NAV bug - it is in Beta still. Also, Samsung can't test every 3rd party app.
One way to lay blame would be find other apps that can do BT Audio and see if they exhibit the same behavior.
Other Nav apps let you automatically mute Nav when in a call, but Google Nav does not. Also, Google Nav seems to have it's own volume control - when in nav - adjusting the volume says "Nav volume" - so maybe you can turn down the nav volume and turn up the BT and Call volume to balance things out - doing this before driving is certainly safer.
This could be a Google NAV bug - it is in Beta still. Also, Samsung can't test every 3rd party app.

Agreed. But Google Nav cannot be considered just another 3rd party app (neither can any other Google app on an Android phone). I think that at this point, with the way it now works, it would have been better to leave the nav audio over BT disabled. I can deal with it, you can deal with it, but there will surely be someone may crash their car while dealing with it.

Motorcycle Bluetooth Headset Mic

Just recently bought a Bluetooth Headset for my Motorcycle Helmet, I'm on ICS right now, SCV7. The problem I'm finding is that no matter which voice commands app I use (Vlingo, utter, Skyvi, Voice Search) I can't seem to get it to use the headset's mic to listen to me!
But whenever I take a call the microphone works just fine. When I go into the headset's bluetooth settings it is connected as both phone and media. I've tried both by themselves but didn't get a change. Phone calls work and music plays, but voice commands just don't.
Anyone have similar issues? Any ideas?
Would this be a hardware issue with the headset? Hardware with the phone? Or Software?
On a side note: Noticed that music effects have been really buggy with the headset.. MusicFX and DSPManager go crazy, make it sound worse than without them, like the speaker is about to explode from all the static. (Tried all Loudness levels, switching songs, and tried all equalizer settings but I can't pin it down, sometimes it'll be exploding ear-screeching sounds but when I open DSPManager it's as if it finally clicks and makes the equalizer work again.. goes away next song)

[BUG] Bluetooth sound maxed out

I think this question has been talked about in another threads/forums.
but I can't find any thread that matches my problem.
To my problem:
When I listen to spotify(using bluetooth headset Sony SBH50) and receive a notification or use TTS, the bluetooth sound get maxed out.
I can't lower the sound until the notification//TTS sound is finished.
It started after last update of spotify
TS done:
Tested another headset (MW600) and I get the same problem, just it has it's own sound settings so I don't get deaf.
If I don't use BT headset I see that the sound get bumped up abit too but not maxed.
Inactivated tasker, same problem.
I have resettet the SBH50 headset and updated firmware.
Tested a mp3 file in xiialive and total commander(music player).
The music get a bit muted during the notification and then back to the same volume level. So sound is not maxed.
Tested Audible and it has a pause function on notification but no maxed out volume.
Solution / workaround
Solution: ? or to get Spotify fix the problem if it's a bug in the app.
Workaround: Was to change settings files to hard set the max BT volume to 50% of what is max today. If it can be done.
System:
Nexus 5
Android 4.4.2
Factory ROM
Rooted
Uses Tasker, don't have any sound alterations tasks.
Used xposed and GravityBox but exposed is deactivated.

Only good side, is that this forces me to listens to some books I have put on hold for a year.
Note: I have dyslexia so if there is anything you don't understand just ask...
Same problem. Extremely annoying. Imagine the situation, casually using bluetooth earphones while shopping, running, commuting & whatnot. And suddenly the music volume maxes out because a notification eg. for a hangout msg or sms goes off. Any ideas how to cure? Re-route bt audio?
Here's something to try:
with the BT headset connected, go to Settings -> Sound -> Volumes and change the notification volume there (again, WITH headset connected)
This should then set the notification volume for the BT headset without changing the media volume.
I use a BT headset all the time with A2DP (LG Tone+) and have never had this problem because I set the individual volume levels as force of habit the first time I connected to N5...

I have read that ppl have talked about a BT bug, but I have looked into it.

Ok Google Bluetooth Hands-free issues

So I got a new car (2016 "facelift" Kia Ceed 4 Tech)... and whilst OK Google Hotword detection over bluetooth sort of works, the
state of the dialler appears quite broken... and I was hoping if anyone could help.
Nexus 5 running Marshmallow paired to the car with Phone & Media Audio selected.. Google Voice Typing settings set to record audio through headset if available.
1) With screen on, say "Ok Google" wait for phone to respond with the first and then second beeps (I guess the second beep is to
signify the phone is then listening over bluetooth)
2) Say "Call xxxxxx mobile/home" etc.
3) Phone responds and starts dialling. Call is answered and the car Infotainment screen gives a prompt to change to "hands free mode", requiring a manual button press..
Not exactly "hands free behaviour".. Not compared to when I pair my wife's Galaxy Note 4, do exactly the same steps and everything goes through seamlessly with
the car automatically going to bluetooth handsfree without requiring me to press the button on the infotainment screen.
Now if you look at the dialler screen on the Nexus 5 whilst the call is going through, you can see the dropdown to manually choose between "Headset" "Speakerphone" "Bluetooth"
and the "Bluetooth" one is indeed selected but clearly the phone and car aren't handshaking to tell the car to automatically default to handsfree. At this point, you can re-select the bluetooth
option but it doesn't do anything, and the car is still waiting for manual confirmation.
More weirdness is, if you start a voice call with OK Google but actually press the phone button to action the call, then it all works fine...
Both Marshmallow and the car are new, so I'm not hopeful that anyone has an answer but given the Note 4 works perfectly, I'm keeping my fingers crossed..
Looks like a known problem since lollipop for nexus and some other phones.. not fixed in marshmallow either.. not sure what to do..LLC.. wait and see I guess

Bluetooth issue when "calls" option is on. Sound is horrible

I cannot seem to figure this out. When I pair my bluetooth either to speakers, car, samsung buds if the "call" option is on under bluetooth settings the volume of the song drops in half and the bass is completely gone. To me it sounds like it's sending anything I play through a call channel? If that's a thing. The second I turn off the call option the full volume comes and bass comes back. Turning off call is not a solution as my car and galaxy wear app says my bluetooth is not connected without the call option on (which means the controls of my buds don't work). Does anyone else have this problem or have a solution?
