What is the general process to follow when your device isn't listed? - General Questions and Answers

I've already posted about my phone on forum requests thread, but I don't think it could result in anything considering that its not a very popular model (Micromax Evok Power - Q4260).
Its a MediaTEK SoC device (MT6737) with 2GB RAM and Crotex-A53 processor. There are no reliable updates by the vendor (Micromax) and the phone is riddled with ad notifications in the default state. One of first thing I'd like to do is root the phone and get rid of the ads. Since its Android M, I came to know after long-pressing the ad notifications that its the system update app itself which is showing these ads, so any "update" it might provide is obviously going to be unreliable!
I'm not interested in a N update anytime soon, but just want to root the phone, so I can get rid of ads and do some advanced things that I want to do (like installing droidwall, busybox, xposed modules, etc.). So, what's the best approach that I could take in order to root this phone?

Have you tried king root for root ? Also try and find a device with similar hardware as it should be possible to port any custom recoveries or roms

Since it's an unlisted device the Android Q&A section might be worth asking about this, However it doesn't mean you'll get results either.

Any news about this?

Can you please explain the rooting process for this phone? I've been unable to even root yet.
However, for changing the UI, you don't need rooting. You can install any of the Launcher apps from play store such as Nova Launcher or the Google Now Launcher.

I used the magisk manager and a pre-patched boot.img file to root it ..
1) install adb tools and connect your micromax q4260
2)Then copy and paste this boot.img to adb folder(make sure you've installed drivers for your device and unlocked bootloader)
3) type the following commands in adb command window
"adb reboot bootloader"
"fastboot devices" (if your device is listed then you're good to go)
"fastboot flash boot boot.img" (make sure you've to put the boot.img file in the adb folder itself!)
"fastboot reboot"
4) Then make sure that you've installed magisk manager on your phone before all these processes.
5) After rebooting you will get your phone rooted..
NOTE:--I can't post outside links as i am new to xda....so i can't give you the download links..You can use XN Rootkit too to get a patched boot.img

I know this phone is fairly new and I was able to root it, but I'm wondering if there is any news on a cwm recovery being developed for it. Thanks for any info!
Is it a difficult task to make a CWM for a new phone?
i need help, i mixed up the system apk`s
can somebody help me out. i just need the app folder from root access. help me. i dont want to buy another device just for take a back up from it
can someone upload the apk`s or the folder. sorry for bad english. i hope somebody help me out! :crying:
I know you can build a cwm recovery image for this phone with mtk droid root & tools. The only catch is I think the boot loader is locked because if you try to dump or write with sp flash tool it talks about having a secure baseband and the need for a authentication file to be able to do anything with the flash with sp flash tool. Mtk droid root & tools does ask to prepare the device by writing to the boot.img I think, but it also states the recovery needs to be flashed with sp flash tool. I'm unsure if by writting to the boot.img file it unlocks the baseband or not but if it doesnt unlock the device you could end up with a brick.

A developer over at androidforums.com looked at it extensively and said it couldn't be done because the bootloader is locked. All we can do right now is root the phone.
No roms, but once root is acheived, you can install Xposed modules to get the feel of a custom rom. Gravitybox is awesome. I have:
* enabled the buttons to be illuminated when the screen is on (no more guessing where that blasted back key is)
* modified the statusbar
among a couple other minor changes. The only thing bothering me that I have been unsuccessful with as of yet is not being able to actually uninstall the factory bloatware even though root is acheived and TiBu runs fine. Other than that, this phone is damn good for what it is and what I need it for (my Nexus 7 is my workhorse and I just use this phone for **GASP**, phone stuff as well as an MP3/Podcast player thanks to it using microsd cards). It is sluggish and clunky, but it gets the job done and $50 for a brand new GSM phone off contract? Yes please. Not to mention that the Alcatel overlay is pretty unobtrusive when compared to Motoblur, Touchwiz or Sense.
(I only posted this long diatribe here because this thread is one of the top ones to show up when googling "root alcatel one touch evolve". Information for this phone is pretty scant but seems to be popular enough that some people will start looking for that info. If I need to delete this or make my own thread, I'll happily oblige).

I rooted my wife's Alcatel One Touch Evolve for this purpose, but TB cannot uninstall bloatware system apps. Did any one find a work around to this?

Were you able to make a backup of the phone before installing GravityBox?
To those wondering...The reason that TB can't remove the bloatware is it isn't in the /system/app folder.
Use some other app like Root Explorer or whatever you like and go to /system/custpack/app/unremoveable.
that's where they all are.

Thanks for clarifying!
You're welcome! Remove bloatware away!
personally i used ES File Explorer. Worked fine for me.
Obviously, be careful what you remove and such.
Can someone point me to the rooting instructions for this?

Mordy,
I used Cydia Impactor http://www.cydiaimpactor.com/ and once it said "done" i installed SuperSU and rebooted my phone. That was it.
Edit:
So I've had this phone roughly 2 weeks now. Rooted it on day one. Removed a LOT of crap. Replaced some apps (IE Chrome, stock messaging app, etc)
I have to say this is a decent little phone. Not bad for $40.

hey so i was wondering if there was any other way to remove the bloatware ? if not what do i do once im in this folder where the system apps are can i just do a delete the apk files ? and will that uninstall all the data for that app? thanks alot

[Completed] [q] alps sm-g900h mtk6589 laggy phone

Hi all,
Can I replace the ROM of my phone to earlier versions?
The manufactures have done a mod of JB 4.2 to 4.4 KitKat but the ROM have a lot of bugs, sad , my question is, can I flash a 4.2.x stable ROM from for example a S4 clone ROM? Plus, my download mode is fake because everything is chinese.
And also, with the attachments and using CPU-Z.

Hi.
Unfortunately I was unable to find any support or info about your device on xda. If you have the stock firmware or a nandroid backup, you could restore the old ROM.
You can also try a factory reset and set up your phone again to see if that sorts things out.
Another possibility is to root your device, install Titanium Backup app and freeze/uninstall bloatware to reduce burden on phone resources. This might (or might not) reduce your lag. Please proceed with caution and only if you know what you're doing as injudicious use of this feature can cause system instability.
Short of that, I'm afraid your only option is to contact the manufacturer and request for a downgrade.

LG Power (lcc2) recovery

Are there any custom recoveries for this device? It seems to be identical to the LG Leon minus the 4G connection.
Would this device run an LG Leon rom or recovery?
I wouldn't hold my breath for it since it's a device so unknown even GSMArena and PhoneArena don't have it in their databases. I guess you could backup your /system partition using ADB so if you break something, you can always restore it because as far as I know, LG's phones have ADB enabled in their stock recovery. Keep in mind that you'd need root for this, you could probably root it with tools listed here.
Devices may seem very similar when you just look at the specs but they can be different in terms of hardware used inside, hardware such as the radio, accelerometer, the keys - all of those can be connected differently to the chipset making the ROM cross-flashing a lot more difficult. One example of this is the LG Optimus L7 II and Huawei Y300, both have the same specs but ROM's don't work on one another.
I've already rooted with kingroot and swapped it all over to SuperSU...I wonder how hard it would be to build a rom for it myself... But that still leaves me with no custom recovery.
I suppose I'll back it up and mess around with it
[edit] this phone doesn't like adb too much... Won't show up at all on linux nor windows... Tried multiple sets of drivers... This phone seems like it was made strictly for basic use
How did you get rid of Kingroot and SuperSU installed? I cant seem to get rid of kingroot at all.
As far as ADB, this phone has to be in PTP.

How to make root on Acer Iconia One (B1-770)?

Hi, couple weeks ago I bought Acer Iconia One 7 B1-770-K476 NT.LBTAA.001. Seems that it is a new model and I can't find any info or faq how to make root on it. I tried different tools (framaroot, kingroot and others) but no success.
Also strange thing in setting (Apps), no option (button) to move app to SD card. Install some apps and tablet is full.
Will be glad for your help.
At first want to root it. Then need recovery to be able to use custom firmwares.
Thanks!
I used king root to root my tablet, but we gonna need a custom recovery to install xposed and be able to move apps to the sd
I also used kingroot to get root. The PC version, not the apk. To move apps to SDcard im using the paid version of Link2sd, the free one doesnt let you move the whole apps. I havent found any custom roms or recovery though.
carlosomar222, or unleashurfreak, can any of you elaborate?
I was unable to use KingRoot (PC version) because it never detected my tablet.
Where did you get the drivers?
You can find drivers on the acer support web site, but you can just try using the apk instead, its easier, by the way I managed to install xposed framework using flashfire that way you can run a module to use the SD card as internal storage , now we just need a custom recovery, i also replaced king root with super su using a script I found on a website, I can get the link if anyone is interested

The KingRoot APK did not work.
It was unable to find a solution for my device.
Could it possibly be because I have the latest update installed?
That's why I want to try the PC version instead.
Unfortunately, the drivers fail to install on my PC.
Are you also using B1-770?
Has anyone else successfully rooted this device?
And if you have, could you please share the steps you took to do so?
Really appreciated!
I also have a B1-770 with the latest update. The PC version of King Root failed.

Don't try to root b1-770 models, is brick your device.
I have tried many PC/APK rootkit, nothing work. For finish, I have returned the tablet on the store to get new one, OS have crashed (many errors with build-in apps, wifi problems, startup of device very long).
In my tests, I have found the reason of impossibility to root this tablet;
- Bootloader is locked
- No pre-root
- Android 5 have more security about rootkit
- Rootkit is only made for Android 4.x and lower
- Acer have added few security and reject all modifications on system files (with and without the Android protection)

For now, no. Many reason make it hard to root. is not impossible, but no right solution for this tablet.
Keep in mind...
- Android 4.x and lower have few security breach and can be rooted with many way; B1-770 is under Android 5.0.1
- Other Android device are pre-root (User on device is not root but if you connect by ADB, you have the root); B1-770 is not pre-root, SU is protected (trying modifing this files, and others make a crash when trying to update OS)
- Unlock bootloader, or unlocked bootloader can make easy root with right kit; B1-770 have a locked bootloader, Acer not offer any way to unlock it.
Is possible to root, but need a skill with Android OS, can compile your own Android OS version, insert root, and upload/replace it on the tablet. But you need to know what you made. You can also extract bootloader, modifing it, etc.... but need a high skill in Android security.
DON'T TRY FASTBOOT; Under ADB, you can reboot the device on Fastboot mode. But Windows not have the drivers for handle this mode. You need to Reset/reboot tablet for returning in Android OS (the hole between power and volume button).
I have searched many roots, because whant to move installed APP on my SD Card (with symlink), Android have removed this feature since 4.4.x (some devices have always this feature, is added by the developper). Rooting this tablet is totally unsafe; don't known if you loose some options of tablet (ex; my cell phone, if is rooted, camera stop working, with my other tablet, the wifi have some problems to keep connection long time).
My suggestion; wait a root and few comments about this before root. You must keep a unrooted tablet running good between a bricked tablet can't run anything.

Buying New, Plan To Root, Any Advice Before I jump in?

I will be buying a new LG v10 still on Android 5.1 (lollipop)
I plan to root it to the latest version I can that xposed works on.
What im trying to find out is what info SHOULD I KNOW before hand? I like this place cause its where all the info is at but info runs into each other, one thread I read says root is not possible and next says it is. From what I read root is possible as long as you dont have the September 17 patch update or whatever is that correct?
Will I be able to disable updating the phone to the newest android flavor? I would have to wake up one day and my phone no longer has root.
Im new so just asking some question before I go ahead and make teh LG v10 purchase.
I was going to ask the same question. You did better research than I for sure. Got my phone and installed the update without thinking...might have to get another one and return this :/. I mainly wanted root for unlimited hotspot though, and the netshare app does a good job so don't necessarily need it per se. Suppose the other features make it worth it.
Been reading the threads like yourself and not sure how you'd get rooted from lollipop. It does appear, however, that it's a fairly simple process of:
1) going to dev options and enabling usb debugging and oem unlock
2) sticking in a SD card with the ROM you want to flash and supersu on it.
3) installing the twerp app
4) installing the v10 driver on your pc
5) connecting v10 to pc with volume down button pressed when off to enter vootloader
6) using fastboot commands (via command prompt) to unlock bootloader
7) using command prompt again to launch twerp
8) using twerp to install supersuu and custom Rom (like nougat for instance? It's much better than marshmellow IMHO...or at least I like a lot better haha.)
Then I assume you can install all the root only apps you need. (Maybe test root with root checker first). Like greenify, remove adds on apps, install mobile hotspot capabilities, that app which hacks apps using the play store to get everything for free..., Magisk, live boot (really cool), etc.
Anything I'm missing or have backwards?
What is required to get the hotspot functionality anyhow? My phone has it but it's disabled on the carrier level. Would I have to install an app? Or just change settings? Guess this is the next research topic
Don't buy it, never buy an LG phone if you don't want to regret. I bought one v10 and I regret it. It got bootloop as hell and LG doesn't care about their customers. So I suggest you to not buy an LG phone anymore. They suck. You will regret it if you buy an LG phone. Good luck
