Well putting specifics of what you're running would help.
What rom? Connecting via Wi-fi or through cell carrier internet?

I had the same error. Mine worked for a month and stopped after a new rom flash and hasn't worked since even after i went back to stock. You have to set up your Yahoo account manually with the default email app.

jumping from the X2 forum because I've got the same problem after a nand gone wrong and a factory reset and I found this in search.
This used to work fine, I'm not satisfied setting up the email manually because I also want the contact sync functionality that previously worked.

I've had the same issues.
Good luck on finding a fix.
I got the same problem, and so does my wife (who has not messed with her phone nearly as much as I)... So, I don't think it's a ROM issue. I think it's possibly the outdated Yahoo authenticator on our phones... The Yahoo Mail app from the Play Store works though..

It has nothing to do with which ROM you are on, as I am running stock 2.3.6 (rooted).
The Yahoo!Mail app does work. I had to delete it again because it eats my battery.
You're not alone. Before I rooted, I did a factory reset to quickly rid my phone of a bunch of junk apps and afterward during setup the native email client wouldn't allow my adding Yahoo! email... said same thing, "cannot add account please try again later".
Called Yahoo! tech support, Moto, etc. Nothing works. So, I'm using MailDroid from the Market. Not a bad app but I don't like how I can't change font sizes within the app like I could with the native android client.
C'es la vie, right?
well I can tell you guys that its not the conduit, because it was working native less than 1 week ago for me until a recent wipe/flash. It must just be the setup. I'm temped to SBF back a version or two someday when I have time.
I could do without the contact sync, but I liked how it showed the Y! icon notification for the yahoo acct and other notifications for other accounts.

I liked the fact you could change font sizes in compositions and replies, as well as email sigs. Resorted to MailDroid because I like black UI along with my rom/theming.
I heard that Yahoo! changed their security settings to not allow for a non SSL devices to connect to their servers, tried manual account setup and still nothing. I'm beginning to think AT&T, Motorubbish, and Yahoo! are all out to get us!

this works for me
•Incoming Server - imap.mail.yahoo.com
•Outgoing Server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com
•Incoming Port - 993 (requires SSL)
•Outgoing Port - 465 (requires SSL/TLS)
•Username: full email address (for example, [email protected], not just username)
•Password: the password you login to Yahoo! with.
although I'm not entirely satisfied with the workaround. I liked the special notifier icon with the full account sync that was JUST working for me until this recent flash.

This is for the generic 'Email' option in "Add Accounts", right? I'll try this out.
Wait, just looked in Settings/Add Account, and there's no red Email stamp like with 2.3.5/6 -perhaps because I'm on Lithium v1.2.1?

Yeah, no red stamp for me. But I've been on MailDroid for a month or so, and since my email is just for personal, not that big of a deal. Just mildly irritating to have something work fine one minute and not the next...

FYI I've been trying to set this up again occasionally for the last two months
today Yahoo account sync worked again!
on my presently stock rom'd DX2, but this leads me to believe that it was actually yahoo, because I know there were also Bionic users with the same problem.
I guess I'm glad I never got around to SBF'ing back multiple versions

I think Aqua Mail is the one to go for. I use it for my gmail and outlook accounts. You can even download Development builds on their forum. It has a pleasant interface and a lot of options.
i just use the gmail app , no complaints here. Guess it all depends on what you want in the app.

cheers guys ill go through them and c which is the one for me..
Cloudmagic (free and perfect for exchange accounts, but a little "dangerous" about privacy) or Aquamail (very good but free version is limited to 2 accounts and adds app infos in each outgoing mail sign and paid version is expensive for me, about 4 euros).
AquaMail but has no threaded messaging, some like that feature, I don't.
SolMail is good too.
Mailwise too.

Have you ever tried MailWise Beta? It allows you to bypass the exchange security lock if that is something you are interested in or if you company policy enforces that. I think it has a nice interface as well. I guess it all depends on user preference.

I am running an Xposed module that allows me to turn it off. I am also using Wanam Xposed that has the option in it as well.
Edit:
If that doesn't work for you, you could always try MailWise Beta. They have an option to turn that off as well with a code. Download the app, before setting up your account, open the app, hit the menu button, click on exchange bypass and follow the instructions.

Hi everyone,
I just got a brand new Nexus 5 a week or so ago coming from a very old Nexus S. Needless to say, the Nexus 5 was already on the latest 4.4.3 android. After some time using it, I noticed that my email notifications from the stock email app are delayed, sometimes by several minutes. It doesn't matter if I'm on mobile or WiFi, but it seems even worst on WiFi. My Nexus S was working flawlessly just a 2 weeks ago...
So my question is this : Is anyone using the stock email app with exchange servers (like hotmail) and getting instant push notifications? Did you have to modify any settings to get it to work?
Out of curiousity, I tried installing the old email and exchange app form my Nexus S and guess what, it is working fine. I get notifications within seconds with the exact same settings. So it seems to be a software problem with the new email app rather than a hardware issue on the phone. It kinda suck to get a brand new phone and having to rely on super old software (android 4.1.2) to get it to work...
I use the stock email app for Yahoo and my Work. I dont know if exchange is different. But I have only seen options to sync email in intervals. Like every 5/10/15/etc. minutes. I've never known it to sync right away on receiving an email like Gmail or something.
I use an app called cloud magic its great. Supports nearly all major email providers.

Pretty sure the stock Email app works via sync rather than push notifications i.e. syncs every 5/10/15/whatever minutes and notifies you of anything new, not instant notifications pushed directly to your device.

Thank you for your answer. Just to explain a little better : The stock email app supports 3 protocols for email. POP, IMAP and Exchange. The first 2 don't support Push, so your phone has to sync with the server at a determined period like 5/10/15 minutes.
The Exchange protocol, like Hotmail or Outlook, supports push notifications. So, when I set my hotmail and outlook accounts, I always do it through Exchange. It was working perfectly under android 4.1.2, but now for some reason it doesn't on 4.4.3. The notifications are pushed after a variable delay that can go up to 30 minutes or more.
I'm just wondering if anyone managed to get it working before I spend too much time trying to fix it.

Nobody can tell me if they have it working? I can't believe I'm the only one here with a hotmail address that is using the stock app?
I'm not asking for a fix, I just want to know if it is possible to make it work and what setup you're using if it is.

First off, thanks for taking the time to help!
I haven't tested the outlook app a lot as I can't stand it, but it seemed to push instantly. I'm sorry if I made you notice that your app were not syncing very fast... But at the same time I'm happy to see there is nothing wrong with my phone.
The stock app doesn't have auto fit so yeah you have to adjust the zoom, but I never had any real issue with that...
Anyway, if you find a way to have it sync faster let me know.
The email app was just updated and now is on the GP Store. Maybe they've fixed this, have you tried?

Yep I know. Push works just fine when the screen is on, but for some reason there seems to be a process that's preventing push notifications to be received instantly when screen is off to save power...
Push are also instantly received while charging, which is why I assume there is an option to save power somewhere...

You're not alone and your approach is the correct one.
I had this problem since the 4.4 upgrade and I've been using both Email.apk and Exchange.apk from the 4.3 AOSP source (it's obviously much easier to download a 4.3 omnirom (or cyanogenmod if you still trust them) and pull the files from there.
All upgrades are broken, 4.4.2, 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 all have hideous delays with Exchange email. They do bring some extra functionality that 4.3 doesn't have but getting real push email is more important for me.
This issue has been reported by quite a few people but others aren't experiencing it so it's unknown what's causing it. I haven't tried the Exchange.apk from 4.3 and Email.apk from 4.4.4 so that might as well work (so you get the functionality of the email client and stability of the 4.3 exchange.apk)
Go for the 4.3 apk files for Email.apk and Exchange.apk and it will be OK.

Thanks. I figured as much, but for now I'm using the 4.1.2 AOSP ones. There's probably not much of a difference with the 4.3 apps anyway.
What's weird is that it's working for some people, which leads me to believe that there is something I'm missing, an option maybe that's not obviously related to push, like using Bluetooth or whatever.
Or maybe people claiming it's working fine just don't notice the delay. It took me quite some time to notice it since it rarely makes a difference whether I get my mail instantly or 5 minutes late. What's more of a problem is when it gets through 20 or so minutes late.

I think so, yes.
I have exactly the same behaviour, sometimes the email arrives instantly, otherwise it's delayed for minutes, sometimes up to 20-30.
Another interesting thing I noticed, if I get an email on my computer and the phone doesn't beep, I waited for a few minutes and then, a few seconds after turning the screen on, the email would arrive.
Looks like the phone was in deep sleep and wasn't waking up when the email was being pushed. Great for battery life but bad if you want real-time push email.
Something definitely broke on 4.4 as previously everything worked fine. Thankfully we can still use 4.3 apks, otherwise there would be big trouble.
Just wondering if any of you are using the the Z3 with an MS Exchange account (not office365) and getting email and calendar events to sync accordingly?

Thanks. I think then it's an issue with my phone. Searching the interwebs doesn't really say much about the topic in terms of syncing errors. and, sony support seems to indicate they have "not had one issue with exchange and email/calendar syncing."

thanks for the suggestion. I actually came across your msdn post a while ago. BUT, unfortunately, outlook.com (365) is not my exchange provider, so it's a moot point.

yeah that actually did it! I spent the day going down the list of exchange and email clients and in the play store and when I got to mailwise, it actually synced up the calendar events.
I damn near fell of the chair
thanks again for the suggestion. I'm not at all sure what the difference is, in setting up an exchange activesync account from mailwise as opposed to say cloudmagic or the sony email app or k9, etc...
anyway it worked and I hope this thread comes in handy for any unlucky soul that faces this issue.
Just my story and suggestion:
We use the Mdaemon Server (v14) with active sync support. First synce with my Z3 went finde. But immediately after that everything got messed up.
So after a few times adding and removint the account I tried to use the original Android Exchange client - same story here. Started to work and the just stopped to sync.
As a finel solution and afer running trough tons of Google-searches I have found the holy grail for me - Nine.
The cool thing for me was that it has a 2 weeks test-period after which you need to activate it.
So I tested about 11 days without any error and decided to buy it. So far no regrets on my decision! What I totaly like is that it has a well working search and a chat-view mode for the messages.
Anyway -- just give it a try - 2 weeks free testing.
The key was 7,60€ or whatever - equals 9.99USD.

Strange, every time I do so I get the following:
Email App - Address lines cutting off in replies
Hello dear,
There is a problem i noticed with the Z3 email client after setting up my office email on Exchange.
for example, i am getting an email from someone with multiple people in "CC" and "To".
If i do a "reply all" or "reply only to the sender", in my reply, all the other addresses other than the sender's name gets cut off from the email to which i am replying.. This is a very disappointing thing for me since it seriously deforms the email chain and make us lose track of who all where there in the earlier email. This is especially bad when using for corporate official emails.
Before switching to Sony, (due to Battery life), i was using Samsung Galaxy and Samsung email app never had this issue. Whether you reply or forward, the previous emails were intact with all addresses and details.
Any idea on how to solve this?
regards....
So, after installing the CM12S update yesterday, I noticed that the email app built is now "powered by boxer"
When I tried setting my hotmail adress it redirected me to a hotmail page with permissions requested by the app (as opposed to just working as usual). I skimmed through the privacy policy (source) and found the following tidbits:
"When you log into your email account in Boxer, you are granting Boxer permission to securely access your information contained in or associated with those accounts. You are also providing your email address by logging into the application.
Where possible, Boxer uses OAuth, which is an open standard authorization protocol that allows third parties to access user data without the need to know a user’s password. This helps to keep your information as secure as possible. We never know or store your password on our servers."
I am not sure if this is an overreaction on my part, but the bit about "allows third parties to access user data without the need to know a user’s password" didn't sound like something I'd want.
So I went ahead and grabbed the email.apk and exchange2.apk (I needed the exchange component too) from my previous backup of the CM nightly 20150411, then reverted to CM12s and installed those apks (worked flawlessly, thanks to Nyan_ from the oneplus forums for the suggestion).
Am I overreacting? Also, if anyone is interested, I can try providing the apks.
it is how many apps sneakingly gain acces. Not much is know about thirdparty apps and their security. But if you want to be safe, just use official apps and be weary about allowing acces and such.
I dont think Cyanogenmod would supply rogue and bad apps though, so you can probably trust it. So its probably fine

Boxer is talking in the first person perspective from the Email provider's standpoint. So OAUTH allows a client application to access user data. That's just telling you a definition of what OAUTH is. It doesn't mean Boxer itself is allowing 3rd parties to access your data.

FYI, Boxer is based on the AOSP 4.4 source code with newer patches from 5.0/5.1 incorporated so things like OAUTH were back ported from 5.0. That code is for the most part as it was in AOSP with minor changes to support Hotmail OAUTH which stock Email didn't support. Your oauth token isn't being shared with 3rd parties and only Boxer's application id can even access the data along with that OAUTH token. Your emails and contacts and calendar data and everything else on your device is safe.

Wow, thanks for responding. Now that you pointed this out, I see what you mean.
The new boxer email app is superb. It's so functional, I no longer need k9 mail....

If I just could bypass the Exchange Security on it I would drop MailWise like a rock.

Boxer doesn't support exchange or push email for @hotmail.com and @outlook.com. I would rather revert to the previous app. Can you post the email.apk and exchange2.apk's?

What do you mean Boxer doesnt support Exchange? I though it did. Can you clarify. While I still havent received the CM12 update yet, I am really looking forward to using Boxer. however, if it doesnt support Exchange (work email) then I cant use it.

Maybe for work email it'll be fine. I know for outlook.com and hotmail.com it does not work with exchange.

Do you have any issues with your email not being PUSH and instead have a sync cycle? It seems as if the email is not being pushed but it actually syncs every 15mins or so.

I just tested sending an email to my hotmail, and I got it right away.
You installed both the exchange2 apk and the email apk?. I created the account straight in the settings of the email app, and chose corporate at it's type. Push notification was then the default choice. Prior to installing the exchange apk, I did not see the option for push notification.

What are your hotmail.com exchange settings? Maybe I can use that. When I added the account, I didn't get the option to choose exchange. The next step was to choose "PUSH" and which categorizes to sync.
If I choose "MANUAL SETUP", I then get the option to choose Exchange but I don't know the Exchange settings.

So far following your directions has the email on PUSH working without a problem. Now I have to fix the Calendar. It doesn't sync correctly for some reason. When I make appointments or changes through the Outlook desktop client or website, they aren't pushed to my phone.
