With the new update you get a new button on your nav bar. A small white dot - bottom left. Press it and you get immersive mode i.e. no more nav bar. However, i would rather use that button for something else.

I don't think I have that option

There has to be a way to hide the status bar. obviously in numerous diff launchers, there is the option to swipe up or down to hide/bring back your noti bar. the noti bar lies within the systemUI.apk (or so i can tell via switching themes). anyone know how to edit the xml that allows for hiding the noti bar? it looks sick when i adb push the systemui.apk and it dissappears. Help!
the statusbar has the home, back, menu keys built in; its probably a bad idea to hide it
I was thinking about this also. It would be nice for apps to go true fullscreen and overlap the status bar. Maybe its an app issue but Remote RDP Lite makes it awkard as when I set the resolution to 1280x800 the bottom part actually gets covered by the status bar.
I suppose I can set it to be like 1280x750 or something...

I'd like the option to hide it whenever.

this would likely require use of a hardware button, since I dont think android CAN support gestures that work over all apps, and I cant think of any other input method you could use
edit: wouldnt be a bad use of the power button since the battery is good enough without it needing to sleep and the lockscreen is sort of pointless because its not in your pocket. Maybe a popup menu on the power button like on phones?
I'd like the ability to move the status bar to the top. This would make it easier to access when I'm holding it with my left hand and resting it on my legs. Right now, if I move my left hand to hit back or home, I then need to grab my xoom with my right hand to keep it steady.
One option would be to use the up down volume keys to move the status bar up or down. Volume could be handled more easily from the notification tray, it isn't as necessary as on a phone to have an alway accessible volume button.
Hi,
Is there somewhere a MOD with which I can swapt the notifications and navigation buttons in the status/system bar? I want the "back", "home" and "recent" buttons on the right hand side...

I haven't seen one so far, but you might drop pjc21 a line -- he's been editing the stock theme for a while now and might know what to do with it.
Cant help you but for better search results it has something to do with systemIU.apk I believe.
Is there any way to disable nav bar on lock screen? Also, I'd like to get rid of menu button and have on screen menu buttons. Is there any workaround?
PS: I don't want to spam dev thread. That's why I'm asking here. .

That's pretty much how miui behaves, miui apps don't have a overflow button
so the navbar requires the hardcoded menu button

No, apps do contain overflow button. I tried to change the nav bar using Xposed. No luck.
I'm running Android P DP2. I can't get the rotate button to appear in the nav bar. I've tried it in GMail, Inbox, Chrome, and several other apps. I've tried it with auto-rotate enabled and disabled. Has anyone found a setting to enable the button in the nav bar?

As far as I know it only appears when auto rotate is disabled. Working fine here. It's a very small button maybe you're just not noticing it.

I've tapped all along the nav bar and nothing activates, so even if it was invisible for some reason, I should have hit it, but saw no activity or touch indication until I get to the back triangle or home button...

It only stays on the navbar for around 2 seconds then disappears. It is noticeable as it has a small animation. Don't know why it shouldn't show on yours. Have you tried rebooting the phone & trying again.

Several times.
I am also facing the same issue on my Pixel 2 XL, using the official Android 9.0 stable build.
Just curious, did you modify your nav bar in any way before updating to the developmental build? Because I did (swapped my Back and Recent buttons), and I am not sure if that was the cause.
Changing nav bar buttons order with Android Pie
With Android Pie a new contextual button appeared in the navigation bar. If you swap buttons without mentioning this new one it will disappear. In order to save it you should issue something like this:
adb shell 'settings put secure sysui_nav_bar "space[0.74],recent;home;back,contextual[0.48]"'
What in square brackets fine tunes the position of recent and back buttons (values above seem nice to me for Xiaomi A2 lite).
Reset to default would be by means of
adb shell 'settings put secure sysui_nav_bar ""'
So I've enabled immersive mode with ADB commands. I'm wondering if there's any ADB commands to make the nav bar stay on longer when I swipe up to reveal it? Sometimes the nav bar goes away to fast and I end up accidentally tapping on something I wasn't intending to.
Also, my keyboard does not appear with the back and home button at the bottom. There's a black bar where those nav buttons should be and I have to swipe up to reveal them. Is there away I can make the nav bar stay just only for the keyboard?
Thanks for any help!

Are you using the fluid navigation gestures app?
No, what app is that? Do I need to root my phone to use it?
Here's the app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fb.fluid
No root needed. Just read the instructions.
