Much smoother games with auto brighness off - Honor 6X Questions & Answers

I've noticed the games are much much smoother when you disable auto brighness.
Do you also notice that difference ?
Tested with Asphalt 8 and FZ9.

I don't, try another game and see if you get the same result

Dont have it maybe try some other games?

So did you test?!

I think its a bug with the game not with your device because i didn't notice that on any game with my honor 6x

Probably, because I don't face this issue either

Maybe it has something to do with the GPU-CPU teamwork. With auto brightness on, the CPU will work a little more to provide you the correct brightness.

I've noticed it clearly only when the phone is changing the brightness a lot due to autobrightness. So the CPU calculation of that could be slowing.

The 6X is powerful enough to not lag in that certain operation. So I think this will be fixed in the next updates.

Try clash royal like games

Any of you have it too?!

confirmed.....tested with assassins identity....if auto brightness is off...camera launch times also decrease... because if auto brightness is on..when we launch camera...it automatically maximizes brightness with extra load on cpu

Auto brightness question

I am just never happy with auto brightness, I've tried YAAB and Lux, didn't love either of those either. (Not sure I ever figured out lux though)
What I really want is a configuration such that I see max and min levels and it just fills in the rest. Does anyone know of something with that feature set?

Lux is pretty easy to configure. You just need to "teach" it your preferences. Set the mode to "Dynamic" and whenever you measure brightness, set the level to your liking and press the round "link" button that's between the lux and brightness values. That will link those value together.
You just need to do that a few more times and the app will start doing its magic without you having to do anything after a while.

Screen brightness "jumpings" ?

Guys, i noticed that screen brightnes is always changing, it`s getting a little bit darker and then changing again to a more light, this is really annoying, auto-brightness is off, brightness level is on max, what is this, anybody knows ? And how can i fix that ? I`m on 5.0 with root.

By autobrightness, you mean Adaptive brightness? or is there a 2nd setting I'm not aware of?
...and is it in a particular app? Some browsers etc have their own built in autobrightness
No, autobrightness is off, i set brightness manually on maximum, but the brightness is always changing a little bit, i don`t know, maybe bacuase of the device temperature or something ? It become more darker and then more lighter, just a little bit but i can see this, and it`s all the time.

In lollilop it's not autobrightness , it's Adaptive brightness... and you have to turn it off after the update

Yep. And changing the slider manually only seems to change the minimum brightness that adaptive brightness will go to, unless you turn it off

Adaptive brightness gone crazy after upgrading to oreo?

Not sure its only me or the Adaptive brightness option is way too "sensitive" after upgrading to oreo... Its like brightness gets "moving" every tick my phone moves Could it be a bug? Or configurable somewhere in services settings? Pretty annoying

Yes, it's annoying, unfortunately there isn't a setting to configure. Maybe some dev could light us and port this settings from nougat to oreo
also experiencing the same issue, it keep adjusting very quickly
the auto adopt brightness is so sensitive after upgrading to OREO.
Same issue. I have to turn off auto and set brighness manually

same to me, on Nougat/MM, the changes between light levels happen quite smoothly, but on oreo they all feel choppy and disruptive.

minimum brightness too bright?

Hey guys,
Is it just me or the minimum brightness level on OP6 its too bright for the eyes?
I use night mode ofcourse, but still... I would prefer to reduce the brightness a little more. I'm rooted, do I have any good options?
I use auto brightness, but also find it a little bit too bright. I don't have root access, so I just use a screen filter app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nu.lower.brightness) to reduce it to 60%. It also helps for the battery life
I have the opposite problem, I find the minimum brightness far too dark. There should be a setting to raise / lower minimum brightness to suit individual needs.
Use this app to set screen brightness below minimum: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.haxor&hl=en_US
Even if u use third party app the notification bar is still bright... Is there any way by command prompt

Are you all too bright people rocking 5.1.6? Cause the adaptive brightness is too dim on this phone with 5.1.5, and there doesn't appear to be an update.
Was 5.1.6 pulled because of bugs?

Has anyone figure method(s) to Force 120Hz display yet ?

Has anyone figure method(s) to Force 120Hz display yet ? The dynamic refresh rate in both auto and 120Hz mode is now, the only thing on this phone bothers me so much.
EU rom (under display and brightness) has the option to choose : "Auto Select"; "120Hz" or "60Hz" in Screen Refresh Rate

That's true, however, OP points out the fact that even at "120 Hz" setting the phone does some sort of battery saving stuff like optimizing the refresh rate based on applications used, battery level etc.
Which is not a bad thing, don't get me wrong - saving battery when the app (or user) don't benefit from 120 Hz setting is a pretty useful stuff. But then it should not be called "120 Hz" mode but rather "Light Adaptive mode" or something.
Btw Oneplus 8 Pro has even more aggressive approach to this, it literally switches to 60 Hz when you don't touch the screen, back to 120 Hz for two seconds when you touch the screen and then reverts to 60 Hz.
This is the reason why Oneplus 8 Pro is so good in all 120 Hz battery drain tests because, basically... it almost never runs it. This should not be called 120 Hz even though I fully appreciate the battery saving mechanism.
You can check here whether Oppo Find X2 Pro stays at 120 Hz (fps) or switches to 60 Hz right after you touch it like Oneplus: https://www.testufo.com

Thanks for clarifying my point. In addition, OnePlus's high refresh rate displays can be forced to run at the constant value via ADB method but I have no clue for an OPPO's. I don't understand that why OPPO provides both 120Hz and auto refresh rate options but perform exactly the same.

Try it on browser like Microsoft Edge or Chrome Dev. Those browsers are limited at 60Hz while I can force run my OnePlus 8's at 90Hz all time via ADB.

I try something via adb
adb shell settings list secure
And I found this
coloros_screen_refresh_rate=3
3 = 120hz
2=60hz
0=Auto
But I cant put any number because android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS not granted
Maybe, just maybe, if you can put it to another number ( like 1 or 4 ), you can force 120hz on Oppo Find X2/X2Pro

ps. 1 is fake 90Hz mode and I have no idea with 4 and beyond.
ps.2 you have to disable permission monitoring in dev options first in order to set those settings.

Sad that a 120hz phone only runs 120hz in a few apps, my Moto edge is 90hz in almost every app as I can see, Razer phone was 120hz in every app or you could force an app to run 120hz if it wasn't already, sad
If you want 120Hz in more apps you have to enable O1 Ultra Vision on 120Hz. 1080p only though.
That will make apps like IG smoother and YT in 120Hz.

hope to run 120hz every app
Most apps are not optimized for running at 120hz yet, it's down to individual apps, when you set it to auto only the user interface and oppos apps run at 120 but all other apps run at 60, basically some apps do some apps don't , not oppos fault

The ultra vision only adds frames on to the video that your playing that's all, doesn't smooth out the actual app

That is not true. YT is normally only 60Hz to save battery for example. With O1 it has to be on 120Hz as the actual video is also interpolated to 120Hz. Try it out for your self.
