Moto G4 Plus XT1641 rear camera scratches (blurry photos) solution! - Moto G4 Plus Guides, News, & Discussion

A friend of mine came up with a clever solution to the micro scratches on the rear camera glass. Seems like this scratches come out of nowhere scince I always use my phone with a pretty sturdy case. I suspected image quality was getting worse over time and that those scratches where the cause. And so it was!
The product my friend found to be usefull its just a regular product for polishing stainless steel. Apply this to the glass with any piece of cloth you can find and after polishing it for at least 15 minutes you will notice that the scratches start to go away. Photos are much more clear now !
I made a full guide with pictures but i cant post external links because its a new account, sorry

toothpaste worked for me actually. See my post here with my experience. In the end I purchased a camera glass cover replacement on ebay.
Here is a how to video.

Nu Finish, Scratch Remover, or any liquid car wax or glass wax will do the same. Stainless steel cleaner will also. Don't use Brasso as it's too abrasive for glass.

Camera Lens Protector

Just picked up the edge two days ago and I love it so far. Got the Skinomi screen protector on the way but does anybody feel the need to cover the camera lens on the back? I know putting on a protector would affect image quality a bit but having it sit on the lens all the time is nerve wrecking.
Also, any idea where to get one? I searched the forums and google but got nothing.
I once owned the HTC One m8, so I know about needing a cover, it was prone to scratches. I just use the extra one I had from it.
I do not know about yours but my AT&T came with a sticker like protection attached. I hate it though. Do not know how I shall remove it.
Hey guys,
Let me first start off with the post before me. Before using your phone you should remove all plastic film from the phone. This includes the front film that covers the phones screen and the plastic square film that covers the camera glass on the back of your phone. I used my fingernails and slowly removed the plastic film on the camera lens from the back of the phone. I noticed after removing the film from the camera on the back, the picture and video quality remains the same, this is due to a cut out in the middle of the square plastic film on the camera on the back of the phone. In conclusion, it doesn't affect quality of any sort on my opinion, but in my personal opinion it looks better without it. Personally, I didn't notice the film on the camera lens until after a week or two of usage. It got steamy and hot in the ktichen and i was taking pictures of food and I noticed air bubbles on the lens... The end.
Lets get back on topic, you can skip the top portion, but that might be too late. Alright if your looking for a camera lens protector for your Edge. I recommend Rasta Banana protector for the Note Edge.
I apologize, since. I'm a new user I cannot post links in my posts yet. You can find it by going to Google and typing "Rasta Banana Note Edge", and you will see it.
If your looking for only a camera lens screen protector only then this is not for you. The package includes a full screen protector for the front of the Edge and its dry apply that covers the whole screen including the Edge screen. Also in the package is the camera lens screen protector too.
I ordered mines today and it's $18 for the package and $3 shipping, and it takes about 7-20 days for delivery for us US buyers.
I'll let you guys know how the screen protector works and the camera lens protector works when it arrives.
Thanks for reading.

[Q] Nexus 5 camera lens scratches?

Hii I just bought the Nexus 5. I know the camera lens protrudes a bit and its not made out of durable glass. I like the feel of the Nexus 5 and I don't want to use a cover. Can anyone tell me if the camera lens gets scratched?
Thanks in advance
I've had my device for over a month and I only purchased a case last week. I keep my phone in my pants pocket and upon visual inspection, the camera lens hasn't been scratched yet. I conclude that its pretty durable.

I would not take an chance. I have ghost armour on my lense. (Its the button on tje iphone that is round that they put on my camea)
Pictures is clean as ever and if it gets scratched(its not scratched in 10months now) I just replace the protecter.
Rather be safe than sorry
FYI, the lens is internal to the phone. In the back is simply glass and it is recessed. Had mine over a year, no scratches. I cannot say the same for the screen.
Had mine for quite a while now, not a single scratch on the glass itself, but its a bit rough on the bottom part of the ring around it because its where the phone lies when put on a flat surface. Not much of a deal at all. I don't use a case (used one for a week then took it off and never used it again), but if you do then same probably won't happen to you because of the elevation.

On the screen? I had a glass one. It was great but I broke it. I can't actually apply the plastic ones. I went through about £30 trying to apply but were not attractive.
I personally have had my phone since release and have never had a case on it, it has yet to be scratched. If it is, they're micro scratches that I'd have to use a magnifying glass and the right angle to see them. If you feel the need to, I've seen a few protectors (basically circular screen protectors for the glass of the camera). If that gets scratched, remove, replace.

Plastic ones are so bad once you've used a glass one. Will probably never use a plastic one again.

Tampered Glass

Hey,
Im looking for a tempered glass for the z5. Any good manufacturers to look out for?
Thanks
I bought this one. Fits well, has proper cut outs.

It's fine and fits well. Not sure how a 0.9mm thick piece of transparent glass can look cheap or premium for that matter
I ordered CaseBase premium tempered glass from Amazon. However I haven't received it yet and can't use it until November.
I ordered a german brand (or at least its sold under the name "wunderglass" meaning wonder glass; made in china ofc).
The fit is ... not that great tbh. The cut outs are fine and in place, but it has too much space to the bezel of the z5. Is there a brand which produces such glass protectors with a minimal gap to the bezel?
I've tried a lot of different brands and I found none that can compete with StilGut in terms of cut, quality and durability. It's made by a German company as well [in China]. A little pricey, but well worth their cost.

Excellent! I was just earlier looking for a front + back solution. And 20 bucks for both with 2 year warranty? Pfft, that's cheap.
Spigen's glas.tr slim costs 25$ and it's just a front protector. And it's 0.4mm compared to this StilGut at 0.33mm.
I take it you've got some personal experience of these StilGut protectors?
Q: How's the, uhm, quality I guess, of the oleophobic coating on them? Longevity wise?
I've previously used UltimateShield on my One M7 and on my partner's LG G3. Our gripe with them is how shortlived the coating was.
Didn't take all that long (a little over two months I guess) for the coating to wear off inb4 smudges galore and made the glass NOT easy to clean. Of course any coating will not last indefinitely but still..
P.S. That typo in the thread title made me chuckle, guess it's time for bed...

I got the StilGut front/back kit same day as my phone (Saturday). The cut is perfect as usual. I completely forgot that the Z5 had frosted back glass and wasn't sure if the tempered glass would work but it did. Unfortunately you lose out on the grip of the new glass but until someone puts the phone through some use and report back on whether the frosted glass scratches easily or not, I am not taking chances.
anoke is the best one I have seen/used, fits perfect and has front and back. $8.88 prime

Well you could go and sand the back protector.
Sandpaper (the wet kind and with it use water to contain the glass dust, you don't wanna breath that)
A flat surface to put the sandpaper on (a mirror for example)
Tape to hold the sandpaper in place
Elbow grease
Have fun!
Start at a low grit 120 or 240 and work your way up to 600 or 1000 or even 2000 depending on the look you want.
You can get wet sandpaper in kits, that have a variety of different grit, online or from your local hardware store and so on.
I recommend Nillkin 9h+ pro.
Nillkin Amazing H+ always the best glass for all Zs!
Now available also for back, used it for previous Zs and no any single scratch, durable 9h !!!
Can I just buy a front screenprotector and leave the back?
It has a frosted glass back but wouldn't the camera would be damaged without a screen protector.
Also i can't find a brand that has front and back screen guards only front.
Sorry i am new to using smartphones.

Sorry, could not stop laughing imaging you in the train with this, so noone could read over your shoulder.
I saw some sold online, but can not post links here(sure you can find them easily) and I can not say anything about privacy screens because I do not like any screens to be applied to original one. So instead of tampered glass I also have chosen original flip case.

I bought this one and I can vouch for the quality. It has the proper cut-outs for the front camera, sensors, and speakers. I've got it wet a few times and it's definitely not going to peel off due to moisture. One of my gripes with the Z5 was that the edges make the edges a little sharp to grip, but now with this tempered glass on it feels like the glass is flush with the edges like the iPhone.

And how easy was it to fit?

Get a camera lens protector, before it's too late

The protruded camera lens design is always a disaster waiting to happen. Simple day to day activity can scratch/crack the lens. But looks like this is the design trend with most manufacturers these days.
I have purchased a protector for my lens, and it is working well so far.

So it does not fit.
So mine is cracked now. Anyone been able to find a replacement glass lens?
I totally agree with this. I'm very gentle with my devices. I keep them protected and in a pocket that never has anything else in it. My camera lens already has scratches on it. I've never had scratches on any of the device's I've ever owned. Whatever LeEco is using for glass is very soft and easily scratched.
With that said, I would very much like to order a protector, but I'm afraid of waiting another 30 days by shipping it from China to the US.
I've been unable to find any other camera protectors made for this device being sold within the US. Can anyone direct me to others they've found?
I ordered the one from Aliexpress in the OP. Works just fine. However, took about 2 months to actually get it.
Here is what I recommend.
1) Order a SUPER CHEAP screen protector
2) Create a template for the shape of the lens
3) Trace it onto the cheap screen protector
4) use an exacto knife to cut out the shape from the cheap screen protector.
It doesn't even really matter if it fits perfectly as long as the area in front of the lens is protected.

This is a good idea. But the protector better be a tempered glass rather than regular plastic screen protector. Plastic ones would get scratched and might affect picture quality.
On the other hand, you can probably cut out like 20 of these from a single screen protector and change it every week.

Absolutely agree. It could at least be a good solution while someone waits for their protector sent from China. My previous Pro 3 (before the screen shattered and I received a new one) ended up getting a nice scratch on the lens while I waited for my shipment from China. I was super careful, but still scratched it somehow...
Had the tempered glass from Alibaba for a couple months and it has been great. It is the first time I ever bought a screen protector for a phone camera before. No scratch on it so far and it is beveled well enough that I don't feel the rough edges bothering me. I will probably order another just in case since I generally find tempered glass without edge protection to crack relatively easily over time.

Accessories The best screen protector secured at last!

After many months of scouring the internet and more money spent than I'd like to admit, I have finally found what I would consider a better screen protector than even the OEM installed one from Samsung. I have tried close to 10 different protectors for my Z-Flip 3 and they all were relatively disappointing when comparing to Samsung's OEM film. They ranged from horrible to acceptable but still not ideal. Most Amazon sellers (even the top rated films) fail where you'd expect it to fail, the hinge, and it seemed all but impossible to achieve the results the phone comes with new. That is, until I got my hands on whitestone's new premium DOME SILK(UTG) film. This guy is actually superior to the OEM film and outclasses it in every way. The feel is fantastic, the clarity is perfect and the most important part is the hinge adhesion, which is every part as good as the OEM one. With the installation jig that is included with the dome film, I got a perfect install on my first try without a single bubble or blemish even across the hinge. So long as you watched the install video which you have to scan a QR code on the box to access, the install is extremely smooth. It's nerve-racking at first but extremely doable. When adhering the hinge area, I highly recommend you go as slow as possible with the squeegee to ensure no bubbles in the area that dips. Anyway I won't make this any longer, I just wanted to let everyone else know that if you want and OEM+ screen protector for your z flip 3 you should absolutely buy the Whitestone dome silk film the first time instead of wasting money on films that bubble up after one or two folds or that feel like hot garbage.
I'll second these products. Recently purchased as the OEM screen protector started to develop cracks at the hinge (lemme tell you how freaked out I was until I realized it was the protector and not the actual screen). Install was easy and the jig is clever and effective, just MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND THE INSTALLATION DIRECTIONS.
No issues with the product so far and perfect adhesion.

I live in the northeast, 2 hours from Canada so yes, it's been between 5°- 25° consistently. I will say that I am conscious about the cold and generally try not to flip the phone open if I've been outside for a while because of the horror stories I've heard about displays cracking when opening in extreme cold.

Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to get a picture of it installed because my only other phone is a galaxy S9+ with a cracked camera lens. I tried taking a pic with my surface pro 4 but it's so grainy it's impossible to make out. I can tell you that visually, it's identical to the oem. Size and finish are the same, it's when you touch it that you realize how much better it is than the oem. Just picture the stock screen protector but slightly slightly shinier.
So here's an update, yesterday I got a new case, one of the full protection cases that have a hinge shield built in and after using the case yesterday and waking up this morning, I found that the entire portion of the screen protector that conforms to the hinge lifted from the screen. Now, I'm not sure what the culprit was, comma if it was somehow the new case that caused this or if it was just a screen protector itself But I have another backup backup screen protector that I am going to put on after work today work today and use it with my old case to verify if the case caused this problem or not. I personally don't see how it's possible that the case caused it to lift but I can't deny The significance of it lifting within 24 hours of putting a new case on. To me, it looks like the protector almost shrank a little and contracted which caused it to lift in the area with the most pressure which would be the hinge because of the curves but I will verify this and I will update this post with the results.
It's been 4 days since installing the replacement film I had and it's already holding up much better than the first. The first lasted only 48hrs before the whole hinge lifted up. I installed this one a little different. First, when using the squeegee to adhere the film, I used much more pressure and slid it much slower (especially around the hinge area). Next, when it was finished being installed, I opted to not close the display for a full 24hrs to allow the adhesive to set and the film to "lock" to the shape of the display. Call it a curing time if you will. I also used my variable temperature heat gun set to its lowest temperature (350°f) and warmed the film mostly around the hinge while using my thumb to apply pressure back and forth. The purpose of the heat was to mock heat cycling the film and further set it to the display. All of these steps combined resulted in a perfect application again but now 4 days later in the same 15-30°f ambient temp I have no lifting at all and no signs of any adhesion issues. This will be my last post on this topic unless it fails in an unreasonable amount of time as there's nothing else I can do to install it and better and at that point I would deem it a bad product. For now I stand by it being the best aftermarket film for this phone.
I've just bought it and it should arrive on 3rd of march. I was wondering if it comes with a glass already installed and, since I am in love with Tough Armour cover of Spigen, glass screen protectors ( even of the little screen ) would be compatible with spigens cover.

Arrived. Everything is ok but the film on the screen. The feeling is tremendous yet they tell you not to remove it. Wtf?
Is fitting a glass over it a possible solution?
I just tried the Whitestone Premium,,, what a waste of time. Got it on with no bubbles. Let it sit for 5 minutes just to make sure. Went over it again. Still lifted at the crease as soon as I flipped it closed. Reseated 2 more times, immediately lifts as soon as I close it. Anybody got any other protectors that will actually stay on the crease???

Hi,
Did you apply it correctly?
I had the same problem and then i noticed that i accidently applied the screen protectors protector
It is very easy to make that mistake. You have to read the instruction very carefully and really look that you are applying the correct part. I learned it the hard way. Bought a new one and got it applied correctly.
Now, it will not lift off, it's stuck to the screen very firmly for over 4 months now with no problem.

On the film there is 3 layers of plastic, two have to be removed. the real protector is like sandwiched in between 2 protective films.
Just a heads up.
