I am pretty much a newbie to rooting, but I can say that i am now addicted. To anyone who is hesitant to pay the $25 in order to unlock the verizon m8 with sunshine, let me say that it is worth it!!
I have tried a few different roms and most have worked, but some haven't (thank God for my initial twrp backup on my pc).
My favorite rom so far is S-Team marshmallow rom.
Anyway, I bought titanium backup pro and thae first thing I did was convert es file explorer pro to a system app. I am using a 32gb micro sd as adoptable storage, and for some reason Es file explorer is slower than when the card was portable storage. I searched for es file explorer in Titanium, long pressed it and selected the convert to system app option. It was stuck on processing for about 10 minutes until I force stopped Titanium backup. When I tried to launch it afterwards, a message stated "null object" or something like that. When I reinstalled es with my backup apk, I was asked if I wanted to update a system app, I did and it now works much smoother than when it did before.
Has anyone else converted their favorite apps to sytem apps? By the way, I know how much the free version of es file explorer sucks, but the pro version is as good as it ever was.

Hi Folks,
I hope I'm not asking questions already covered, so apologies or redirects if I have. I just rooted my phone for the first time last night so I'm a little timid to take steps further without asking a few things.
1) I have both the Clockwork Recovery and Titanium Backup (free version), but TiBackup did its backup on the internal SD while CWR did it on the external SD. Is there a way to have TiBackup redirect the spot it saves its backups to?
2) People recommend Root Explorer to get rid of the bloatware that exists, but outside of paying for either that or TiBackup (that I don't terribly love), is there a free app that does the same thing, or preferably just does a freeze. I'm not concerned with paying for it, but since I'm new to this stuff, I'd rather not waste money on things that don't have longevity or more than just an experimental use if I don't have to.
Thanks for the help

i have paid Titanium backup, so i know on that you can change the location where the backup is used.
i bought root explorer and titanium back up in november 2010, and have used it on 3 different phones since. i too hate paying for software that i think may not work, but i have used these programs beyond their value, and was 200% satisfied with my purchase. dont hesistate, just buy them. once you root, these programs are priceless. i use root explorer for more than just root stuff, i dont use astro, or even the stock CM file explorer root explorer is just fine and even works without root (will work like astro).
there is an app called app admin that works to remove bloat. i find root explorer easier as it kinda identifys what certain programs are by icon, where app admin you need to know what it is before deleting. app admin tho you can check off multiple apps and delete them all at the same time, where root explorer is one by one, and you will need to do a battery pull after a removing certain apps such as wifi calling, so you may need more than one battery pull, where with app admin it should only make you do one battery pull.
so i say buy the 2 apps you mentioned, it cant hurt and as long as you are willing to stay with android, the value is priceless

You can change the backup location of TB in the preferences menu. Just look for "Backup folder location"

You could try using file expert, they now have a root setting in the settings menu, tho I have yet to get it to copy many files over at once without it crashing or stalling. Other then that, you could learn the ADB commands to do the same thing.
I use Super Manager. Its free. It'd look better without the weird color scheme but it works fine as a root explorer and lets you read/write to the system folder.

Cool. I tried redirecting to a new folder on the external SD and it asked whether or not I wanted to port things from the old directory to the new one, which I responded yes. But it didn't do it, and prompted to continue using the old one. Can I just delete the /TitaniumBackup folder that exists now, and have it make a fresh back up on the SD card?
Do I even need a TiBackup if i already have a CWR one on the SD card already? I'm still unsure if they back up the same data differently, or it's the same.
Thanks to everyone for the advice.

Titanium allows you to restore your apps across different ROM's and even different phones. CWM can only restore entire ROM's and is only really useful if a newly installed ROM or kernel cause a problem and you need to restore an old one through recovery. Titanium is an invaluable program and I recommended you purchase the paid version.

TB is only for apps+data, while Nandroid does a backup of the entire system.
Also with nandroids it creates .img files so you would not be able to get apps back and use on different roms like the previous poster. If you wish to start fresh, just delete current directory and point to the new one on the external SD card.
Hello again
Recently went back to stock rooted and decided to use es file explorer to back up my app data
When i ran manager and selected all apps and backup it looked like it just moved all my apps period to my sd card
Can someone explain to me how this backup process works, IVE TRIED google and forum search with no luck
thanks
I think it only backs up the apps but not the data.

why not go with titanium backup pro?
I was using titanium but hust decided to try something else
Will prob just go back
If i delete wat was put on the sd card will it now delete my apps or is it just a backup
Realky just wanted a way to save all my apps and settings for wen my phone crashes or i try another rom i dont have to download them all again and re set tgem up
I use titanium backup to restore my apps and apps data after flashing a new rom (i never use it to restore system data). On my old phone (tbolt) I would use the BATCH to restore all apps and apps data and it would do it all automatically. Now when i use it to do the same thing, I have to manually press Install then Done, Install then Done on every single app. Is there a way to make it do it again automatically so i'm not having to press install and done for every app?
Thanks
It only does that if you don't have the pro version. If you paid for pro, download it again thru the play store. If you never had it, you got lucky for a while and now you must pay.
Another method if you still have your T-bolt, or a backup of your storage card, is to look for a file in the root of the card named titanium license.txt. Move this file to the root of the internal storage on the S3, TI should check for file the next time you open the app and you will be all set.
I recently got hands on my OnePlus 3. I am migrating from RedMi Note 3G. Now the thing is, I have couple of apps (Whatsapp & Saavn) which have larger data (300MB and 700+MB) with them. Now I know Titanium Backup is a way to go but it is not backing up my apps saying insufficient storage available even though I have 1 GB+ available on phone and 10 GB+ on External SD(My backup location is on here).
So my question is, is there any better way for this to transfer directly?
I tried:
Easy Backup(app) - Only backs up apk.
CloneIt(app) - Only sends apk.
You can try Titanium Backup but I'll warn you, some apps and data don't restore correctly on another device.
You can also use ES file Explorer to backup the apk and then you go to your Android/data/ folder and you'll see a folder there that has the app data for that app, you can copy that folder to your extsdcard or PC then you install the apk on the other device then you copy the app data folder to the Android/data folder on the new device.
I tried Titanium Backup, it wont backup saying insufficient storage while I have more than enough on both(Phone & SD card).
I will try the other idea and let you know.
Yeah, the second option I posted, doing it manually. It backs up the same stuff Titanium would, Titanium just automates the process for you. You just need to know where to look so you can copy the app data folder for each app that you backup, then you need to know where to put back on the other device. Its a bit round-a-bout but it serves the sane purpose and will do the same job, you just have to do it yourself instead of it being convenient.
Doesn't Work. FIles get copied but app doesn't recognize them anyway.
Do an adb backup then, you can restore it with adb also.
A few days ago, I upgraded my Redmi Note 4X from the Android 7 based MIUI 11 to custom MIUI 12 firmware, based on Android 9. Since I wanted to keep all my apps, I first rooted my phone and did a backup with Super Backup & Restore. After installing the new ROM (which was already rooted with Magisk) and installing Super Backup again. For some reason, it deleted all the data from its backup folder on my MicroSD Card. Fortunately, I was able to recover just about everything using some data recovery software on my PC.
For some reason, if I restore the apps using Super Backup, they crash when I open them. This is happening to, after flashing the MIUI 11 firmware again. It also is happening on a different phone.
As an alternative, instead of using Super Backup, I've tried copying and pasting the app data for an app (that has already been installed again on my phone) that Super Backup backed up, to apps folder on my phone's internal storage, replacing the current data there, with the data from by backup. However, when I do that, although what ever file manager I use, says it has successfully pasted the data, the app data on the phone does usually not get overwritten. To give two examples. When I try and replace the database used by the Meizu Notes app, with the database from the backup it does not get replaced. I even tried to do the same with AROMA File Manager with TWRP and it made no difference. Not only does the Notes app not show the data from my backup, but if I open the database file in a file manager, it also does not show that data. I find this to be strange, as I get no errors when pasting the data from my MicroSD Card and choosing to overwrite the existing data.
The second example, is this. I tried to use my old Coc Coc Browser's bookmarks file. After doing so, Coc Coc, had no bookmarks. I then manually added a bookmark to Coc Coc, after which, I tried copying the bookmarks file again. Coc Coc now actually had my old bookmarks and not the one bookmark I just added, which is quite strange, as it the file copy hadn't worked the first time.
I am looking for some way to be able to actually restore the app data from my backup. I've already quite a few hours trying to find a solution, with no luck so far. But I figure, that there must be some way to do it. Based on past experiences, I really should have made backups with two different backup apps, as I know that sometimes restoring backups can be problematic. But due to limited free space on my MicroSD Card, I decided not to. I just wish that there was a decent native backup solution for Android, as I always want all of my app data restored when switching ROMs, or phones and not just the apps themselves.
