There is something pushing on the screen from behind. Push hard on a laptop screen or anything LCD and it will do that. It's to do with how LCD works.
I know, but how come it happened out of nothing? Phone has not been opened...

Friend of mine who works in T-mobile told me the same thing. He said I should wait for it to stop working and bring it to service as I still have warranty.

Is your phone in warranty?
can you give us some basic information? such like rom & kernel version, wether you rooted and ade using cputuningtools or something like that.
if you are under stock rom(original samsung & all further updates over kies) and u have done nothing unnormally so far i would recommend use the warranty too; )

thanks guys
i have not rooted or changed the stock rom
i only factory reset it when the problem started

Here we go, this proves this has nothing to with CM9, this guy is on stock.
Many people are blaming CM9 for this and claiming it caused the problem.
It's a hardware defect.

Agree. :good:
I'll wait for a few weeks or till the phone is usable for the kernel 3.0. :fingers-crossed:
If not then no other option but create a Rs.5000 hole in my pocket. :crying:
Same case with me... Bought the i9003 March 2011.
I'm on DDKP3 and around the same time as the OP, my touchscreen started to act strange... responsive only when charger is plugged in. Tried factory reset, but problem came back after some hours!
If this is a product-wide issue, then I guess sammy should replace it for free, even if it's out of warranty... too busy to go to the nearest service cenrter, will check later.
Till then, please keep me updated how it goes for you.
---------- Post added at 02:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:24 PM ----------
Just wondering, if a reflash of DDKP3 via ODIN or any custom ROM would solve the issue... please suggest.
I guess the sensitivity settings (or something like that) has changed without you knowing. Don't know if it is the same as s2 but in s2, sensitivity of the phone not plugged in the charger and plugged in has different settings. So maybe the settings for it in your case (unplugged) has changed but not on the plugged in settings. It's all in the kernel btw.

Maybe asking a kernel dev if the values changed or what not. If i'm correct then it's a software problem, if not then maybe a hardware problem.

Same problem!!!
It happened last week when my phone surprisingly started showing this problem. After unlocking the phone the screen becomes unresponsive. In my case it is just 1-2 secs after unlocking the phone.
It lasted for a day, I tried flashing different ROMs. I was on XXKPE when it happened. And than suddenly my phone started working fine until yesterday when this thing again happened and the problem still persists (I am still on KPE). I dont know what to do.
I think it can be some software problem as the screen and touch keys do work for some time before becoming unresponsive and even the logcat shows no problems for the touch screen. I am going to try more ROMs now. Will keep you posted.
Possible solution !!!
Friends, I think I found a possible solution for this issue. Though it seems to work for me... I have to keep the phone under observation for some days until I can say it's the final solution.
A similar thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695149
The possible cause for the touch screen going unresponsive seems not to be a hardware/software glitch; but environmental issue! And it doesn't depend on the ROM your'e running.
I noticed that most people from India having this issue say that this problem started in June, when the rainy season starts and it gets humid and damp.
In fact my phone showed this issue when it had rained for the last 2 days and it was very damp and humid inside the house.
You can do the following:
1. Take out the back cover, memory card, SIM and battery.
2. Place the backside of the phone near a hot air source (on top of a running CRT TV/monitor, hairdryer, laptop fan vent) for sometime.
3. Reassemble and check if the problem has gone away.
Do not panic if the handset gets a bit hot in the process!
In my case, I left it on the top grille of a CRT TV for a day which ran for 8hrs.
Do let me know if this works for you...
Flashing the ROM does not solve the problem

I guess the climate is the only reason. I used his method to heat up my phone a little bit by charging it enough. Than it started working fine. No problems since then. Lets see.

Touch Screen non-responsive Problem
I had the same issue and when i dismantlement the thing, came across a small batter. could this be the reason? Cos while charging this battery is not used but when running with battery, this small dry typed batter can be in use.
Found Any Solution
Could any 1 find a solution for this matter?
If so pls. update. Mine is still there.
I can't get rid of it.
Hi Android GURUs,
Please your help needed. I'm new to Android (i've always used Iphone), I have brand new Nexus 5, bought in UK 8 days ago. Last few days I'm having this major problem with the screen. The problem occurs when I start using the phone for 15-20mins. It's absolutely impossible to use the phone screen .
The screen starts shaking everything in gets mixed up, flickers and impossible to use it. I tried to restart it and nothing happens.
When I leave it for 30 mins it behaves normal again but after 15-20mins using the same problem again.
I'm thinking whether I mad wrong decision moving to android, please prove me wrong and tell me android also as good as iPhone.
I'm new to this forum hence NOT allowed to link my youtube video where I could link it.
Please any1 send me email I'll reply with my youtube link.
many thanks
Sounds like you have a faulty device. Nothing to do with Android or the phone at all.. Just bad luck.. Can happen to anything that you get one that has a manufacturen problem.

You may have a faulty device, this flickering is not software related but is caused by faulty hardware imo. Exchange i asap as its soon going to die on you.

Very clearly a graphics card glitch. Bad memory by the looks of it. Very similar to the issues seen on the tegra3. Get it returned!
Not even anything to do with the screen; this is the graphics unit. When the GPU is damaged you usually get artifact and strange line emitting from the middle of the screen, the issue you have usually occurs when the memory on the GPU is damaged. Faulty screen redraws etc.
Regardless, not a screen issue but a graphics card/memory issue. Needs replacement, no software by the looks of it.

Either way you will need to replace the device. So send it back where ever you got it from so you can get it exchanged.
I also highly doubt its an Android 4.4 bug... Because of 2 things:
Your the only one with the problem, if it really was an Android 4.4 bug you would see more people with this problem.
Screen flickering most of the time is either a hardware defect or a driver problem.

My Nexus 5 screen is now starting shift up and down. I bought it in Nov 2013 so it is now out of warrantee so cant just return it. Is there a fix for this?
Check out my nexus 5 screen shake. It's my RMA unit. And my warranty is over. Looks like I have to buy another phone then. This is hugely disappointing.

I have been using my Nexus 5 from 2013 too. I just got this issue and I tried to fix it my self by taking the mobile apart. somehow i got a boot loop and I flashed all system again. definitely hardware issue because this happens in my recovery too.

Did you ever find a solution?
I got the following issue which has been confirmed by Samsung Service desk to be occur more often:
After power down (switching of) and start-up the screen stays blind//black. Phone seems to work (LED and sound notifications). Attaching to PC with USB phone is recognized as normal. Hard reset via power and volume down bottom (and home button) seems to work but still screen stays blind. Phone is now on its way for repair. Will keep updated once I got news.
Anyone else here has same problem? Cures? Root-cause?
no one?
I had the problem 4 months ago.
The screen went black a few times but always goes up after 10 minutes of pressing vol down + power button. But after a lot of time doing that, it finally went absolutely black like yours, and yes the phone was working cause I could hear my ringtone, see the led blinking and it vibrated sometimes.
Then they repaired it free of charge even if my knox was 0x1. I don't know if the issue is root related or not. I was rooted and on SuperMan Rom.
Hi thanks, for the reply. Mine is 100% original and being repaired currently. Not sure yet what the cause is but will share it once I got the feedback.
Cheers,
Steven

Not personally, but have read another one member at least, here having the same problem
Update 6-12: I'll get my phone returned this week. Apperently a faulty motherboard was the cause of this error. Samsung and it's official repair center where negatively in the news this week on a Dutch consumer program. Reason is not having enough OLED replacement screens so consumers are "forced" to buy a new one. [in Dutch: http://kassa.vara.nl/nieuws/reactie...eprocedure-van-beeldschermen-van-smartphones].
This is what my son's One Plus 7pro screen looked like one morning. No physical damage just unreadable display. I hooked up a HDMI cable to a monitor and it displays fine so it's not software. Touches are responsive and I have called customer support with no solution. I did a factory reset and it still had the issue so definitely not software related. Didn't use the phone for about three days and now it's working fine. Am I going to have this issue again? Anyone heard of this problem with a purple and greenish display?
Probably something wrong with the LCD or LCD cable
Looks like screen burn-in to me.

In that case it's probably a faulty ribbon cable or something similar, can't see much more from what info we have
(Also, do ask if he had left the display on for a long time, maybe overnight, on high brightness. If so, it's a burnt screen.)

Heya, I have the exact same issue with my One Plus 7t Pro. The screen looks exactly like that and is perfectly responsive (except the fingerprint reader can't recognise my finger) but unusable due to the discolouration. Did you ever discover what the issue was? Did you send it off for repair?

One Plus customer service said they would repair but I couldn't get a ticket created because I bought it through Sprint. Weird loop of going back and forth through both companies. I did a factory reset and the issue didn't fix but twice it fixed itself. The first didn't last too long before the problem came back. The second time it just fixed itself and has been working fine since. My son was sleeping with it at not listening to music and I think it was a heat issue. After factory resetting it and turning it off, I let it sit there for about a day then when I powered it back on, everything was fine. Has been working great ever since. I make sure he doesn't have it on his bed at night anymore. My guess is it's heat or too much pressure on the screen. No way of figuring it out. Not sure if that info will help you or not. I would contact one plus support.

Heya,
Thanks for getting back to me quickly. I also purchased through a third party, so I have contacted them regarding repairs. Did your son mention anything regarding water damage or was this not a concern? I'm feeling a little more confident that it is repairable, cause it looks pretty scary!
I thought about water damage he did have it in the bathroom while taking a hot shower.
