Hello XDA!
I'm having some issues with the wi-fi, and bluetooth, connectivity on my GM-930F S7 (Non-edge) phone.
The wi-fi issue is that it occasionally disconnects, and when I try to re-connect, it either doesn't work (quickly goes through the motions, but doesn't connect), or lists the hotspot as "disabled". I had no issues with this on my backup Note, nor on my older S5.
The bluetooth issue is that if the phone doesn't seem to have a direct line-of-sight to the earphones then the audio almost immediately drops out and begins to stutter/drop seconds of audio, like somebody is bashing the mute-button.
I think both of these issues are related, potentially they share the same radio. I do have a HDSPA+ connection when I'm out and about, so that works, but I do think perhaps I've got a mismatched radio/setting somewhere which is screwing with those two.
I've already tried to return to stock, twice, using two separate ROMs flashed through Odin (BTU-G930FXXU1DPLT-20170117160813, & G930FXXU1DQE7_G930FEVR1DQD1_EVR) (I'm with EE), and I've also tried a myriad of other roms, (AOKP, AOSPExtended, ResurrectionRemix, SlimRom, Linage 14.1), however none of them seem to solve the issue.
My question is has anybody experienced an issue like this before? Are there any specific radios or things you'd recommend I flash, either via TWRP or Odin? Any more details I can provide?
Just so I'm clear, the wi-fi and bluetooth worked beautifully on my S5, so I have no reason to believe that hardware is at fault, it's very likely the phone.
I've also just tried it with a MM rom (G930FXXU1APAW_G930FOXA1APBA_BTU) and the same issue occurs.
Seems like faulty hardware. I am using superman ROM and no problems so far. I mean, i doubt you will fix it by changing ROM. You should bring it to the service.

Thanks for the reply! I don't think it's hardware, if it was then the wi-fi/bluetooth would either work, or not work. I mean if I keep the phone close to the earphones the bluetooth is fine, but if it's arms length away, or there isn't a line-of-sight, it drops, the wi-fi is similarly spotty, but not working/broken. I had a similar issue on my old S5, I ended up solving it but I can't remember how, it was years ago. However it certainly was a software issue. Either ROM, or Kernel, or Modem/CP, etc.
I see lots of comments from people about the issue occurring once they upgrade to Nougat, so I'm very sure it's software. Possibly an issue with the Kernel or Modem, or a combination of both.
Would it be possible (minus the EFS of course) to get an upload of your setup so I can try with your exact settings? I've tried the SuperMan ROM before, but I'll give it another go now.
Also (Although it isn't 100% solved), I've found trying out the ROM "[ROM] S8 FULL PORT FOR S7 & S7 EDGE by ambasadii [AQEB] [v3.1]" noticeably increases the range that the bluetooth works over. It still isn't a large range, but it more than doubles it. I've gone back to previous ROMs I've tried, speaker and phone in the same place, and it doesn't transmit that far, back to the S8 Port, and it does. I've no idea what could be causing this and it's really bothering me. I know the S8 has upgraded bluetooth software, but this speaker worked fine with my S5.

As do I
Ideally just a snapshot of your system, minus all the personal information and such - if your bluetooth works fine with your modem/rom/bootloader/etc and it doesn't on mine, then at least I can be reasonably sure it is a hardware issue, in which case I'll have to try to get it mended.
The reason I'm not 100% sure is the S8 ROM extended the BT range to what other S7 ROMs haven't, so I'm still not 100% sure.

Reading some posts over in the Galaxy Nexus forum, I see complaints of calls that start fine, but where voice of caller is lost at some point on LTE version. This is exactly the Droid Charge issue, caused most likely by the Via modem. After having EP4 on the Charge, I haven't had the problem anymore. Has anyone else?
Second, there is a thread about poor battery life, and the phone heating up in your pocket, and trying to track down the issue. This sounds like deja vu for Charge owners. There were all kinds of "hot in my pocket" battery issues on earlier firmware.
Therefore, I don't envy the Galaxy Nexus at all, and also realize some combo of firmware and radio/modem selection are very weak points at Samsung.

If the basebands really are that similar (it would make sense), then we might actually be able to get some ICS work going.
Can anyone find out if they're actually the same, or if they're just different enough to be a problem?

I have the wifi drop issue that is driving me crazy.

i dont have wifi drops using trinity and rastakat rom. but i dont use wifi very often. maybe it isnt an issue with your kernel, but an issue with your router?

Did you have any wifi drop before you tried those roms?
I tried everything I could find everywhere and my conclusion (along with a lot of others) is that there is something somewhere with the kernel or rom.
Also I know it is not my router cause I have a total of about 6 devices connected to it.(not all at the same time)

no.
but as i said, i dont use wifi very often, actually its pretty rare. but when i did, didnt have any drops.
I use WiFi as much as possible, just because I work in an old cotton mill so the signal strength in big, Victorian stone buildings is not good. I'm probably on WiFi for 21 out of 24 hours of the day. I've never experienced any drops on Any ROM / Kernel combination that were not attributed to a problem with the local network, so I'm not really sure how advice can be given.
Just because only 1 device has problems connecting to a particular router, doesn't mean the problem isn't the router. People are often surprised on facebook when they say "one iphone cant connect to my wireless router" and my advice of rebooting the router worked. Sure, it may not be the solution to the problem here but it is not uncommon that a router issue only affects 1 out of many devices so don't rule it out.
I get what you're saying but like I said I tried everything and nothing worked. Since the n5 has WiFi ac I was thinking of changing my router and then we will see. In the mean time I'm trying some ROMs using multirom.

Since there is no "major bug" with WiFi drop outs, it's unlikely that any ROM or kernel will resolve the issues you're having. They seem to be localised. Maybe you'll find something and I wish you good luck, but I doubt it.
I would change the channel on the router before I did anything else. You can use WiFi analyzer to check what channel is best or if another router that's close on the same channel is screwing yours up

You are probably most likely correct in your assessment of the problem. But the more I think about it, it sure does seem like there have been a lot of wifi complaints recently. More precisely, complaints about wifi not staying connected. I don't know, maybe there is an issue that only a very small percentage of people experience.
Rebooting the router is always the first thing that one should try, as you suggested. Also, firmware updates could potentially solve issues with certain routers. But, I will acknowledge that it is possible there is a hardware/software issue with the N5. Remember that battery drain issue that I and a few other people were complaining about? I think I fixed it. Switching to SlimKat and using the stock SlimKat kernel, I had 9 days of uptime before rebooting for a nandroid. I could never even get 25% of that using the stock ROM without seeing 5-8% per hour idle drain (not wakelocks, but perhaps kernel deep sleep issues). There is a bug in that stock ROM/kernel, somewhere, that is causing that issue for a handful of devices that have certain chip revisions. They are all made in batches, right? Just like no two CPUs will overclock or undervolt the same, why can't two wifi chips be different?
I'm constantly reminded of the N7 2013 touch screen fiasco. If you are not aware, some a sizable percentage of the N7 units have multi-touch problems. The touch screen quite literally goes ballistic if you touch it with more than one finger at a time. Some other models register touches where the screen wasn't touched (ghost touches). My first one had the ghost touch issue, RMAd, new one has been fine. Then there's the units with grounding issues, where the screen only works properly on some surfaces and not others.
They are still selling affected units. They know the problem exists. They said they fixed it. And they did, for some. Google is trying to fix a hardware issue with software. They know the hardware is faulty, but sell the devices anyhow, and will deal with RMAs as they pop up, and ignore legitimate complaints. The rep I talked to on the phone (very nice, btw), wasn't going to give me an RMA. I had to press the issue to get a replacement.
I was one who subscribed to the theory that you shouldn't buy a brand new model device, because invariably, there will be bugs that will need to be worked out in the manufacturing process. This theory has zero merit. At least not with LG and Asus.
If after doing all the router stuff the problem isn't fixed, @nitramus, try using SlimKat with the SK kernel.
Thank you so much for that response and some acknowledgment. I started testing ROMs and already a good change. Compared to atom rom,/kernel I can now use a y otg cable and simultaneously charge the phone and use mass storage.

Hi guys,
i write because i don't know what to do.
I have two strange problems on my Nexus 5, the first (less important) is that when i put the phone in landscape it starts to lag, but after a few seconds it works fine...this problem is less important because a reboot ever fix the problem...but what can be the cause?
The second problem that is bad and it is that i have issues with my mobile data...when i tried to use internet it is really slow and it doesn't work fine...in first place i thought to some network problems but people with Nexus 5 and also other phones told me that they haven't any problem with the same carrier.
Then i clean flash a new rom (Carbon Rom) and i noticed that the problem was gone..however after some strange reboot in calls i decided to revert to stock rom (again with clean flash) and the problem with network is here again! Is a baseband (modem) issue? Maybe the Carbon Rom uses a different baseband?
I tried also to disable Xposed (that i use on stock rom and that there isn't in Carbon) but the problem is still here!
Of course i installed the same apps on Carbon and on Stock then i was in the same conditions. I used franco kernel (both on stock and Carbon) and changing kernel is the unique thing that i didn't make but i think it's useless!
What are your advices? Thanks in advance!

Well thanks for answer! It's nice to see that i'm not the only one! However (at least in my case) is really strange...because i have friends with the same configuration (Nexus 5 and same carrier) and all work fine! But it's also strange that if i try another rom and i leave in the same condition of the stock the custom rom work while the stock not!
When i will come home tonight i will try to flash another modem...maybe is this the problem!

Changing your modem will have an effect on your reception, not necessarily your speeds. That's usually determined by your carrier - you might want to make sure you're using the correct APN they specify. You can get them on their website. Also it could be the sim card you're using, whether or not it's LTE-compatible, or it could be the area you're in that's causing your speed troubles trouble.
As you can see, there's really no one way to fi things like this... you sort of have to troubleshoot it yourself, unfortunately.
Regarding Carbon rom, it won't change your modem - that's something you'll have to manually flash.

First of all thanks for answer! Well is not necessarily slow.. It's like a connection drop.. And like you can see is not a problem in my area with my carrier but something that only I have.. There is the lte in my area but I haven't a plan with lte connection then I set my phone in a way that he didn't search for lte! I will try the modem and if it won't work I will switch on a custom rom.. The strange thing is also that with carbon I haven't any trouble but with stock yes..

I just got an used S6. It's a 920w8 on Telus with Android 6.0.1. Bluetooth music works fine, but when I try to make a BT call the sound is very garbled with multiple BT devices. Knox is tripped on it. I tried a factory reset. What else can I try?
Did you try the BT device on another phone?
Maybe the problem isnt the device...

I tried two BT headsets and the car. They all work with other phones.
I just reflashed the original rom and still the same. Could this be a telus rom issue?
I got the BT to work temporarily by flashing nougat. It worked for a few hours than it was back to ineligible crackling. Wiping/restore did not fix it. I reflashed MM(same issue), then I flashed nougat again and it worked for a few hours. Not it's back to crackling during phone calls. Music works well all the time. This is nuts...
In golden griffin I get no voice whats so ever, even on the headset.

Maybe I should flash the W8 modem file on it's own? What would be the best W8 modem rom to flash?

One thing you haven't tried is using a custom kernel, bt performance and reliability isn't really a modem issue. For mm noxxious kernel is best and can be found in original development
Same thing with other kernel.
I reflashed XtreStoLite and it did not work at all the second time. It's really hard to figure out a pattern and what triggers the issue. If music did not work I would just write if off a hardware issue.

Honestly not sure what else you can try at this point, when you BT call does the issue happen wherever you are located? Like does it happen just at home or is it wherever you are?
Try using arter kernel and report back what happens. Make sure you choose the exynos 7420 section on his website.
http://arter97.com/exynos7420_kernel.htm
That is s6 edge chipset, he also enabled his kernels to work for our T/W8 devices.
Used to use xstrestolite and arter for an amazing combo.
I've got an issue where sometimes SMS fail to come through when my device is asleep. I can generally fix this by sending myself an SMS, then the pending messages come through. Sometimes when I try to send that SMS to myself it fails to send initially, giving me the error about it not sending, and then the pending ones come in.
This also happens with phone calls as well, sending them right to voicemail. My location does not influence this - it happens on any signal strength.
It seems to happen on any ROM and I've made sure to update the modem whenever it was an option. If there is any info I can provide please let me know.
Anyone have any thoughts on what I could do going forward? I know I'm definitely missing calls and texts because of this - I just cant seem to fix it.
Wish I could help. My flat S7 g930f on T-mobile does the same thing. I've tried using Google messenger, network reset, different apn, factory reset.... Nothing keeps, eventually problem come back. My old s5 on lineage never has these issues. Maybe time to install custom rom on S7?

Yeah I'm on t-mobile as well, weird.
I've tried Lineage, Superman, LightRom, DotOS - all of them seem to do the same thing. My only guess is there is a fundamental issue with all of these or the issue lies in having updated the modem. Just wild guesses though, I have no idea how to fix it
Yeah that is strange, now thinking back this wasnt happening before the latest update (not oreo, I still don't see that one for some reason). Maybe oreo will change modem and fix issues?
This problem bothers me so much been using my s5 intermittently but maybe should just get oneplus 6. I just don't like huge phones.

The phone is 100% stock on N, I even did factory reset. It has become unreliable. I'm now using my old s5 on lineage.
I'd try lineage on the s7 but sounds like this might be a baseband or modem issue which means issue might still be present.

No solution here, posted on reddit as well and I can't seem to find anyone who knows how to fix it nor where to look.
I can definitely make this happen every day so if any logs can be gathered from anywhere I'm more than able to do that. I feel like you're on the right path with thinking that it's the baseband/modem - this wasn't always an issue and I've been putting ROMs on it since day one.

Yeah it's very strange and frustrating! If stock Oreo ever lands maybe it will be fixed but not holding my breath. I'm on the verge of just replacing phone with OP6 or something else. Yeah I think it has something to do with 7.0. I flashed the 8.0 Lightrom and it seems to be fixed. All SMS and phone calls are coming through, no calls are being sent right to voicemail.
The rom itself isn't super stable and most of the 8.0 roms seem to have an issue with GPS so I'll have to wait for a more stable solution but I'll take a little instability over messages failing.
Thanks. I've been using my old s5 exclusively but will hunt for a good 8.0. You said lineage 14.1 still has issue?

I tried it with Lineage for 7.0 but not the 8.0 version. Some Oreo roms are having issue with GPS (Lineage included) so I stayed away from those.
I actually just swapped to another rom to see if it's more stable. Currently on ALEXNDR's 8.0 rom - it's super stable so far and pretty barebones in terms of a ROM but I'd rather build what I need into it through Magisk & Xposed anyways.
Looks like the ALEXNDR rom is doing it as well - going to head back to the previous one.
Alright so I've tried a few other 8.0 ROMs and they're all doing, except for Lightrom.
I have no idea what makes Lightrom so special but it's working for now.
Thanks, have a link for lightrom?

I think it might have something to do with the developer being in Germany. In most of the ROMs I've tried before the CSC that was always given/recommended was BTU (UK). I took a peak in the ROM files to figure out if the CSC was different - the listed CSC "G930FDBT2ERE8" which SamMobile lists as the German CSC (DBT) . T-Mobile is huge in Germany (Deutsche Telekom) so maybe other ROMs might work just as well if I use the German CSC - pure speculation though.

Baseband version is G930FXXU2DRAG
Seems to be the most stable for me. It still happens here and there (usually with long SMS failing to send) but other than that it works.

Thanks!
Arrrrrrghhhh unfortunately not working. I'm still getting failed messages and receiving texts very delayed. Not sure what else to try. I had bought a brand new OnePlus X sealed in box as back up now I guess I have to use it. Who knows how many other messages not coming through. I even tired countless stock software from Sam mobile but same outcome. Wish I had never updated to 8.0
