2nd hand Z5 dud - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Just after some advice. I recently purchased a 2nd hand Z5. perfect condition etc.
I just realised tonight after trying to back up the phone via Sony Companion that the phone was boot unlocked????
I'm new to all this and was curious. Reading up about it and i realised that now my phone has certain features disabled due to DRM files missing.
Is there any way i can get it fixed? im soo pissed off about it. to add salt to the wound, the seller has now nicked back to his home country so I can't do anything.
Im running the latest firmware: 32.3.A.0.378

You could send it back to sony, but they would charge you though... Since you bought it from someone
and i think some roms out there re enable DRM features, i'm not sure though

Your warranty is void now, so you can not revert that.
Use stock FTF and patched kernel. Just like stock, you have to update your phone via Flashtool. You can not receive updates via OTA.
Read and follow these steps 1-22.

[Q] My Sons Z3 Dead?

Hi Guys,
Noob here but thought I'd ask on behalf of my Son.
He has a Z3 and he did have a PIN on it but he can't remember it and he never wrote it down or set up a Gmail account I think. I have no clue with this phone to be honest - I have an old Samsung S2!
I have tried to connect it too Sony Companion but as the screen is locked it comes up saying can't access memory or something check phone is not locked which it is ( screen lock PIN)
Contract with Virgin is up so was hoping to maybe with someone else.
I also tried Emma program but that say's Locked phone detected!!
Any help as to what to do?
Thank you.
Turn it off and flash a stock FTF using flashtool (Do not use Emma, that is only for unlocked bootloaders, use flashtool from flashtool.net)
You will lose all user data from it but it will restore the phone.
Hi Greg,
Many thanks for the reply.
I shall give that a go later, is it quite straightforward? He doesn't mind losing what's on the the phone he just wants access back.
Apologies but I don't have any experience flashing phones in all honesty.

If it is a stolen device and the IMEI is blocked then this will not work.
Yes you are right

Listen 'mate, I take great offence to you insinuating that the phone is stolen when in fact it is not... in fact I have found two phones in the past and have returned them to the owners so please do not make assumptions about people you don't know, we are not all crooks you know.
Ok rant over, as you can see that greatly annoyed me.
Greg, you are a star Pal, I managed to flash it all be it after a few goes and my Son is over the moon as he now can use it once again. :good:
Thanks once again.

Help on Xperia Z3 Right channel/Bottom speaker extremely low volume

Hi, can someone please help me
I rooted my phone like 2 weeks ago, the sounds were perfectly fine until I noticed that it became lower yesterday.
I don't know what happened. It was not dropped nor got wet. The volume suddenly became lower
I think it's the lower speaker.
It's fine when I use my earphones. I also tried to max all the volume thingy in settings.
Can someone help me to fix it?

UPDATED: I've been trying to figure out my phone's problem for the past weeks. I even started a thread about it [you can find it here].
I found out that the problem is the right channel or the bottom speaker.
I've been looking around and found out that some experienced the same.. No one said anything about solutions and what not.
Anyone here experiencing the same problem? If yes, did you do anything to be able to fix it?
I tried factory reset and flashing my phone. Nothing friggin happen.
I wanna know if I could resolve it on my own before I send it to the shop for service >.< (which is friggin far from me).

Hmm.. I can only advice few things.. But you should backup your stuff and have long process.
1. Factory reset as first measure.
2. Use PCC to repair your phone
3. Flash other firmware
If it is software it will sort our by this, if it is hardware, then mate you need to send it to Sony center.

Thanks for the answer, although if I do that, can I still re-root my phone again?
And additional question pls (really sorry), if I'm going to do a back up when my phone is rooted, will my apps work fine in original firmware?

Xperia E3 dual (D2212) not starting

My Experia E3 with 4.4.4 is stuck on boot logo (SONY) with black background. It was like that months ago when I tried rooting it. I had done a mistake of flashing a 4.4.2 image(boot.img) instead of a 4.4.4 one. As I remember had with some red led when started. Now the battery would be dead. I tried updating software with PC companion but it told that the phone contained some bad software which couldn't be modified. I am grateful to anyone who can help me. I have unlocked bootloader it's OK if data is lost, please help me get it working. I realized that I could ask XDA people for help and have done so.
When I took it to the SONY centre they said motherboard has to be replaced and it would cost Rs.6000
When I took it to the SONY centre they said motherboard has to be replaced and it would cost Rs.6000
I solved my problem by flashing stock firmware using XperiFirm icon in the same line as that of the THUNDER and BLU icons. It is the last icon with black background and XF in the front. Looked at the location I'm in and flashed it. Then tried rooting according to @vinay and @Raproid methods. I did root it.
4.4.4 - @vinay's
4.4.2 - @Raproid's
Any questions please feel free to contact me.:good:

Hey buddy, the same problem occured to me few days ago on the same device, what I did is in the link given below and it worked I am out of it now
https://www.google.co.in/amp/techbe...-xperia-bootloop-issue-bootloader-unlock/amp/
But make sure you didn't need to create a FTF file(one of the major step in the process)yourself, most probably you will get it on the internet already

I wanted to root my xzp but ..

Hello, I have an xzp with 2 years of work, it is running out of update, it is being abandoned by Sony, so I decided to give it another chance to install a rom with interesting functions. But I know Sony well and that I have the rooted Z5, when you unlock the bootloader there is no going back, all the Sony properties are lost, and they are good properties, I do not want to risk. Is there a way to backup TA before all? The Z5 did allow root before unlocking bl, in my case I lost it because something strange happened.
I am interested in a high refresh rate, I don't know if it will work in LOS 16 or higher, if someone has tried it and it has worked well ...
Two things that I liked about the xzp is its screen and the sound, a ROM like the exisTenz pie(Modified based on firmware) has the quality of the screen or sounds as is the stock?
Regards and thanks in advance

Personal opinion, go with eXistenZ. The other full custom roms have issues. I'm not a gamer and I rarely watch video on my phone but the screen looks great to me. I'm not an audiofile, but I have no complaints as to sound, plus if you root and use Magisk there are sound mods you can install. You will loose some camera functionality but for me not a game changer. I take snapshots with my phone; I take real photographs with my camera. After all I bought it as a phone, not a camera.

You're right, I take snapshots too, with my rooted Z5 it's impossible to focus scenes because the missing DRM key, with that it works correctly (no problem to focus on objects), it's ok. Someways to backup the TA?
There's a thread all about backing up DRM keys. Seems like a whole lot hassle for nothing to me, but search for it and you'll find it.

Try jsut reflashing the stock firmware, thats the best I can say to a possible fix, you can't downgrade due to downgrade protections that I believe are found within the gpt file unless thats changed

Unfortunately no, what you could do before doing the reflash is just doing a backup, you can use the backup option the phone/Google provides in settings if you want, personally that's what I do but I don't use twrp either so I'm not sure if you have twrp and if twrp affects that. I will say though I also have the Motorola edge 2021 and when I unlocked the bootloader while it was still on Android 11 my widevine got dropped down to L3 but then I did the ota to Android 12 since I didn't use magisk at that time yet and I'm not sure what I did or anything like that but my widevine went back to L1 and it's stayed that way since and I got 2021 in may, could be a similar thing happening with you just with the 2020 model. I can also say since I still own the Moto edge 2020 and got it on day of release I never had an issue with my widevine being dropped to L3 as shown in my screenshot it's on L1 using dev check, and I did just download DRM info to double-check that on the Moto edge 2020 and it is still showing L1 so I can't say if doing a reflash of the Android 11 firmware will work but it might. I've had to reflash The 2020 edge hella including using a blank flash to get it out of hard brick and it still hasn't dropped to L3 once

Thing is I've never unlocked the bootloader on this phone nor rooted it. Only thing I did is have it perform multiple OTAs one after the other when I decided to upgrade to Android 11. Maybe something got corrupted during that?
Anyway, thanks for the help. I may just leave it as is since I'm worried I'll screw up reflashing it lol.

Oh if your bootloader is locked and everything and you just been doing the OTAs that's 100% just some random BS lmao that's actually a situation if you know the phone still in warranty you can probably call Motorola about that and get a replacement fr lol, and I'll be the one to say/ask it since other people will probably see this and be like yo what the hek, how is it you're a senior member but you're worried you'll screw up reflashing it lol jsut use the moto flash utility provided here (not being a butt I swear, text makes me sound bad lmao) really unless you're trying to watch Hulu and Netflix exclusively on your phone widevine honestly is not that important to deal with either I don't think Spotify is affected by it so your music quality "should" be the same still at least but again idk for sure since I haven't had widevine issues with mine, jsut the 2021 model, but that fixed itself otaing to 12 lol
