APN settings not appearing! - HTC One A9

I have a carrier unlocked AT&T One A9 with the bootloader unlocked and use a T-Mobile SIM card. Calling and SMS work just fine, but I can't use my mobile data or MMS. I figured out that this is because my APN settings were not properly configured, so I decided to punch in the T-Mobile APN settings. (Just to point out, the screen where all the APN settings should show up just says "APN settings not available for this user") There's a little floating notification that says "APN settings saved" but the screen remains unchanged, without my APN settings. I thought of S-OFF -ing it and flashing another ROM would help, but I can't come up with the $25 for a Sunshine license.

Not sure if you still need the info, but the reason the APN settings don't seem to save even though it says "Saved" is bc of some bug.
The way to to get it save is to click on the BACK button instead of clicking to save. So after you input your APN settings, DO NOT click the SAVE APN settings. Just click on your in-screen back button. Your APN settings should then be saved.

I updated my a9 sprint by using RUU side load, but my sim card is locked and i can't receive neither a call nor use data could you help me unlock my simcard pleasee

[Q] Add APN After 4.4.3 Update

Hi everyone. M8 Verizon.
I'm on stock rooted on 4.4.3 S-Off. I noticed with this update they removed the ability to add APNs in addition to the Verizon one .
I travel to the middle east and usually swap SIM cards, selecting the corresponding APN, and it worked fine while on 4.4.2. On 4.4.3 I can edit the Verizon Apn to put the Vodafone apn for data to work, however the MMS part is blocked, and it won't let me enter anything.
Once I re-insert the Verizon APN I have to say Restore defaults for the Verizon APN to populate.
My question is, how can I get the feature back to add additional APNs? I use to be able to toggle through several.
* If you look at the attachment, where it says Reset to Default, there used to be a feature that Said "Add APN"
Thanks!

i found one way to make them work, one bad thing it's that if you restart the phone you will have to do it again, but at least it's working again.
select the apn from verizon, the only field we can modify it's the APN
then enter the info from your carrier, for example :
fast.t-mobile.com in the case of t-mobile
vzwinternet in the case of verizon
as we know that field changes with our carrier but they just were some apn's i found on internet.
then save the apn,it worked on my GSM carrier again with 4G LTE.
i hope you get data again, let me know.

US Cellular SM-G920R4 Galaxy S6 APN Data Connection Locked to 3G

I have a US Cellular G920R4, unlocked.
USC has co-opted the data connection. For example, I can add an APN for Verizon and select it, but it doesn't work.
If you set the APN setting to default and remove all APNs, it dispalys a message that states that "APN settings are disabled for the current user profile."
Data is 3G by default.
Also, they've locked the browser such that you can not remove or even change the default home page, which is the USC portal.
How to I eliminate their default setup and restore the APN settings?
I was having a problem with this also and I was able to add a working APN by disabling WiFi first. You'll still see the APN settings disabled error until you add the new APN. You'll then be able to select the radio button next to the APN you added after it has been saved. It worked for me just now so I hope that helps you.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I am glad the solution worked for you and, hipefully it will help others. The WiFi settings on my device were disabled. I can add an APN and select it as default, but it's ignored - even after I delete all APNs by returning to default settings and starting over.

Do you have the carriers APN settings ?
Yes I have the settings....I get these errors though....
"Sim not provisioned" but it works in my iPhone and under apn settings it says "Access point Name settings are not available for this user"
This may help.

Had the same problem. If you have root you can try the method above. Seeing that it can work. But if you have no root then it won't work. But I found out that I couldn't change Verizon's apn. But sticking a att Sim and you have the option to add or edit for the att Sim card. Why I don't know. I wonder what other apns will be locked.

Locked APN

Is there anyway to make the APN editable without rooting as I use a couple of banking apps that I can't do without ?
It was possible with my OnePlus 5 with Android 9.
What happens when you try to add an APN?
Give this thread from last year a look (another model, naturally, but, it may apply).

Can't edit the auto APN as it's greyed out.
Thank you, yes that helped, I can now create a new APN and save it but I can't select it or delete the automatic APN.

I slightly altered my T-Mobile APN for a 2nd APN (changed the APN Protocol & APN Roaming Protocol to IPv4/IPv6).
Ran a speed test & it works. Perhaps it's not enough of a change to the original APN, but, I was able to select it.
I did find that once it's saved, to select another APN, you have to tap directly on the corresponding dot for the selected APN to change. If you just tap on it w/o tapping the dot, it won't select & just stay on whatever you're currently using.

Well, I managed to create a new APN by temporarily using a different carrier sim but no dot so unable to select it

Do you have a carrier-locked version?
If so, I'm guessing that may be the issue, even though mine is a T-Mobile US carrier locked version. (still SIM Locked) & I can get a 2nd APN to select.
I don't have another carrier SIM Card to see if I'd have the same issue as you. Perhaps someone else will be able to help w/a 2nd SIM/APN.
No it's an unlocked OnePlus 8 bought from Amazon.
I believe though that carriers are requesting locked APNs or pushing them to the phone and is a problem since Android 10.
Another sim I tried from a different carrier is also locked.
Anyway your suggestions are appreciated.

Yeah, troubleshooting is difficult when neither the mfg or carrier(s) want to take ownership of the issue.
Since the phone is SIM Unlocked, I'd start with the carrier & see if they have to whitelist your device (by IMEI) or whatever means they require for BYOD. I'd grab the SIM Card serial number as well before you give 'em a call.

Question SOLVED: Edit Greyed out APN on Pixel 7 Pro? (No Root)

UPDATE: FOUND SOLUTION IN 3RD POST BELOW!
So im rooted on my Pixel 7 Pro.
Im experiencing daily occurances where my phone goes into NO SERVICE.
Toggling data on or off doesnt work.
Only restarting the phone works.
Which brings me to this..
I have Visible wireless which is Verizon based.
Problem is I cant edit APN what-so-ever.
Its greyed out. So fine tuning my APN is off the table.
However I do have root and I do have access to my build.prop file (even though FX explorer wont let me mount to write which is another problem).
Does anyone know how to work around this APN block or point me in another forums fix?
Im on Factory Unlocked Pixel 7 Pro Android 13.

Try this app, and enable apn editing. If it lets you after that you'll be able to. But it doesn't work on Verizon, you can add an apn but only edit the name of it.

Thank you TotallyAnxious but I got a working solution that doesnt involve adding modules to Magisk and appears to not require root. I do have Magisk and LSPosed running but this is working on my Visible (Verizon) service.
Ok so Im on a factory unlocked Google Pixel 7 Pro Android 13 (rooted but that doesnt matter and neither does being factory unlocked) with Visible Wireless (Verizon MVNO) and my APN is greyed out. Apparently Visibles carrier update I have for 2023 didnt patch adding apn, they just hid it.
I just downloaded "MIUI Hidden Settings Activity" app in play store by "NetVor - Android Solutions" and opened the "Access Point" shortcut which opens up the hidden by verizon option to add APN and save it! I have my 2nd APN selected right now in settings.
I basically copied everything my carrier APN has except I didnt select "NR" under bearer type which is the 5G connection. It wont let you add "dun" for APN type for tethering/hotspot so I added it in all CAPS as "DUN" and it worked! Tested hotspot and it works great.
Now my phone wont lose service trying to connect to this stupid 5G causing NO SERVICE on my sim.
For many this is how you add APN for troubleshooting.
Important to know: Using this other app called "Network Type Switcher" by "Cracky" in Play Store allows Testing menu which is *#*#4636#*#* on your dialer to "select prefered network type" to remove "NR" (5G) as folks previously have been doing to stick to LTE 4G, however, if your APN bearer allows 5G (NR) then it will try scanning for NR band and when it finds it and cant connect (because of your prefered network type on LTE 4G) it will cause a mismatch and youll lose service showing "NO SERVICE". The only way to fix it is rebooting.
Make sure your Select Prefered Network Type reflects whats in your APN bearer.
In fact as long as you just remove NR (5G) from apn bearer then it wont even scan for it even if your "select prefered network type" allows NR (5G). So no need to change it. Just remove it from your APN bearer and itll stay on 4G LTE.
Removing NR (5G) from apn bearer was my ultimate goal and adding a new apn but If your goal is to just add tethering/hotspot with "DUN" (such as "APN type: default, spul,DUN") then thats all you need to do.
No need to change "select network prefered type".
If you mess up adding a APN and want it deleted just go to settings, network, sims, apn, select the 3 dot menu, reset to default and itll go back to what your carrier set.
I dont think you need root to add APN with this app above. It never prompted for root access and didnt require it. No need to modify build.prop since they just hid the add apn setting.

It's an app, not a module. It actually can work without root as described in the readme.
