I'm trying to root my Samsung galaxy tab A sm t580 using this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...overy-official-twrp-gtaxlwifi-galaxy-t3437666
Everything has gone smoothly up to step 11. However, when I try to transfer the supersu zip from my PC to the tab, I get an error message: "Cannot copy item. The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected." I only get this error for supersu, other files will transfer normally. I'm very new to rooting, android, and windows so it's possible I'm making a very simple mistake but I can't figure it out. Any ideas?

If the device boots, why not just download SuperSU.zip on the tablet via mobile browser? It's a workaround if you can't solve this.
Have you made certain that PC has full USB permissions, have you made sure your device settings are correct for allowing PC to access the device?
If you already have TWRP installed, you can boot to TWRP and use adb to push the SuperSU.zip file to the folder of your choice on the tablet.

I'm not 100% sure, but assuming that since other files besides supersu are transferred normally that all the permissions and access are fine on the PC. I downloaded the supersu zip directly on the tab but I can't find it anywhere to install on twrp, does this method involve something else? I'm not really sure how to use adp, I opened the adp sideload on twrp and all I got was unable/failed to mount data and then my PC never recognized my tablet when plugged in.

Install ES File Explorer on the tablet, open it, click on internal storage, look in your download folder or if you used a certain browser or downloaded to download the file, it might be in a folder with the same name as the browser or downloaded that you used.
As for the permissions being right to move other files, it may depend on where you're trying to move it to on the device, are you trying to move SuperSU.zip to a different location than where you moved the other files?
The best place to put the SuperSU.zip file is in the root of your internal storage, in other words, on the internal sdcard but not in any of the folders, just by itself. Then it's easier to find in TWRP.
Sent from my SM-S903VL using Tapatalk
I downloaded ES file explorer, and the supersu zip shows on the internal storage by itself as well as in the download folder. When I boot into twrp, it says my internal storage is 0mb and there's nothing in there at all, every folder is empty.
Also, when I was transferring files from PC to the tab there were no folders available, I was just dragging and dropping onto the device itself.

The usual solution to this is:
Boot to system, set a lockscreen pin or password(do not use pattern, has to be PIN or password), make sure it's set to be required at startup(if it doesn't do it by default on your device), then boot to TWRP, enter PIN or password and that should allow you to see your files.

Did you have your device encrypted before you started this process? If so, you'll have to remove the encryption before TWRP will work. Removing encryption will probably wipe your data. You may have to reflash your stock firmware, you might even have to wipe all partitions before flashing.
Do some searching to see what is the safest way to remove encryption on your model number, doing it wrong could make things worse.

I definitely didn't encrypt manually, so only if it would come encrypted. How do I find that out? I bought the tablet specifically to root, so I've started completely from scratch.

That's strange. I'm not sure what the issue is then. Have you tried flashing a different version of TWRP for your model number? Sometimes the issue is in the recovery itself.

I just tried with all 3 versions of twrp available for my device, all 3 were no goes. The supersu zip is for sure saved on my tablet, but I have the same issue with all 3 versions of twrp; the internal storage shows as 0mb and the supersu zip is MIA. I tried transferring the zip over mtp outside of twrp and that worked, but while in twrp I still get the "device has stopped responding" error with all 3 versions.

Have you tried using the mount feature in TWRP to mount the partitions that you're accessing?

Wait, how are you trying to do this?
If the SuperSU.zip is on your internal storage then all should have to do is boot to TWRP, tap the "install" button, then find where SuperSU.zip is stored and flash it.
Is that not working?
I am familiar with the usual causes and fixes of this but I've never had this issue myself.
I'm thinking you might not be using the right recovery for your model or you aren't doing something right, something so simple I'm overlooking it.

Yes that's the problem, when I boot to twrp and tap install there's nothing in the internal storage. The guide I followed says to transfer supersu over mtp while in twrp, but that doesnt work; I keep getting the "device has stopped responding or has been disconnected" error. I downloaded the supersu zip directly on the tablet as well as transferred over mtp while not in twrp and both of those worked. My only guess is that the guide says to transfer supersu over mtp while in twrp for a specific reason that would solve this, but I can't get around that error message.

It doesn't matter how you get it transferred, just as long as it gets there. Do you have an extra card slot? If so, put it on the extsdcard and flash it in TWRP from there, or if you have a USB drive that can connect to the device you might be able to flash it in TWRP from the USB.

I've got my tf300t stuck in a boot loop when i turned it on today. (Ive looked around the forums for this issue already and been able to find little or no solutions that work for me)
I'm using cm10 and twrp. last night i shut the tablet off as usual and go to turn it on today and i cant get past the white asus logo and device unlocked screen.
I can access my twrp recovery menu, wiping dalvik returns a "E:Unable to mount '/data' (tw_mount)" cache wipes fine no errors.
I'm unable to flash another rom or restore from a back up as well.
Fastboot says its working but in cmd prompt it wont list the device. (computer recognizes it and it shows in device manager as android adb interface)
If there is any other information needed I will be more than happy to provide it.
any tips or help is greatly appreciated.
thanks in advanced.
I'm not yet very fammiliar yet with TF300, but from SGS 1 and ICS I remember one trick. If you have external microSD pluged, take it out or of you don't have it plug it in and then enter TWRP.
It probably won't work but you can try anyway.
Does TWRP have any file browser? I'm using CWM so I don't know much about TWRP.

Yeah it does have the file browser, upon initial booting i can browse an sd card ( i have a few of various sizes none seem to to be having any affect) and i can browse the internal storage as well. Booting both with and without the sd card in the device still leaves me in the boot loop.
So, can you copy new rom to sd card, then copy from sd to internal and install new rom? I think only option you have is to reinstall rom.

Be sure your sdk is up to date.
1. If you hold volume down plus power button to get to fastboot.
2. shift + control right click fastboot folder on computer then open command prompt.
3. type devices... and if it is not showing a device there something is not right.
4. you can try adb push to apply a flash if your device is not wanting to flash from sd card.

I've tried this as well. It was my first thought. Also it states in my original post that fastboot doesnt list my device, adb doesnt list it as well. Both are recent and up to date. However device manager does recognize it and windows makes the little notification sound. In safely remove devices it shows up as fastboot when i enable fastboot on the device.
I posted this in the stickied thread, but I'm kind of in a hurry to receive a fix. After fixing my bricked phone it won't enter recovery mode or download mode. It's also having connection issues with Odin, even though it says the device is connected.
I followed this guide to fix it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50128942
The original brick was caused by installing and using EZ Unlock 1.2 before checking all the facts. I didn't know about the bootloader on the 4.3 at the time. I'm just going to copy and paste what I already wrote in the other thread.
I'm having a few problems still. My phone is up and running and it's rooted using saferoot. Which is all good, but now I can't get into recovery mode or download mode. They both start up. When I enter recovery mode I get the blue text in the top left hand corner, but then the phone just starts up like normal. When I enter download mode the screen flashes the screen for a second before turning off and starting the phone normally.
Also, when I connect my phone to the computer everything works like it should, but when I enter Odin while it says it adds my device when I try to install the stock rom it never connects to the phone and installs it. It just hangs there waiting for the connection.
I have a question about restoring the bootloader and recovery image as well. I downloaded the debrick file and it shows up with the bin extension, but for some reason it wants to use VLC media player to open it. I wrote it to the 16 GB card and it shows up on the card as a folder called "image" with lots of files in it. Nevertheless it worked and my phone booted up.
Then I follow the directions, as best as I can with my inept knowledge of all this. I put the stock bootloader and recovery image on the card (not at the same time) and then put the code in using Terminal Emulator. Here's where I'm confused though.
The first time I moved the debrick folder and the recovery image manually to the phone storage and then entered the codes. Again, one at a time.
The second time I put the files on the external 16 GB card and left them there. Then I put in the codes and then I plugged the phone back into the computer and deleted the originals on the external card.
Either way the phone works. Mostly. I have a feeling I'm doing something wrong and that's why recovery and download mode won't work.
The instructions also say to keep the debrick.bin file on the external card. Do I keep the actual image folder on the card or the file as it was downloaded? Because even after I deleted the debricked image folder off the card it says there isn't any room on there for the file. I formatted the card at a point but when I put it back in the phone it was bricked again.
I hope someone can help me with this. I'd really appreciate it!

Thank you for your help!
I tried your suggestion twice but it wouldn't work. It still gets stuck at SetupConnection.
You have multiple issues going on here.
First thing you should do is make sure your drivers are up to date and you're using a good cable and USB port on your computer. That may fix your issue with it not being recognized, all of those can cause problems.
To clarify your issue with the hardbrick restore method, it's working like it should. It's being recognized as a vlc media file because vlc is set to detect .bin files and this has nothing to do with the function of the file. The debrick image is an actual image that is written by win32, and it's designed to make the phone work around the initial bootloader problem and boot from that source. Since the boot image is now on your external SD card, as soon as you take it out your phone can't boot anymore. This is why it's a much larger file structure than just the .bin file. This may be the issue with your phone. Now on to your other issue.
In that guide there is a section to rewrite the image to your internal card with terminal emulator underneath the initial post. If you do that you wouldn't need the external SD card, and it may fix your connection issue with Odin.

I did move both files to the internal card and removed them from the external SD card already. I think it worked since the phone starts up, it just won't let me into either mode. Could I have caused all this when I moved them?

Oy. I don't know what to do. Is there another way to get into download or recovery mode beside the three button method?
Last night I used Titanium Backup to wipe user and system apps and cleared the cache, but it didn't help. I guess I'm going to try a factory reset through the settings menu. Hopefully that will do something?

Hello
I have a big problem. I wiped my phone(HTC One m7), because since some updates, there was big noise problem during phone calls.
Now I have the problem, that I'm unable to access the internal storage for putting on the zip file containing a new version of Cyanogen mod.
I would be glad, if someone could help me. I see the (storage) device on the "computer" but it looks like a hidden file. If I try to access it by a command prompt, it says "The device is not ready".

Thats just what i like to know TWRP is still fine? You could flash a actual recovery which supports OTG to get a romfile to your recovery.
Easier was to mount the storage to windows. Does your phone handle the storage as "MTP" or "Mass storage" ? Have you been able to mount sdcard to your computer using TWRP when a working android version was installed? Or did you need boot up android to enter the phone's storage?
Edit:
forgot "g®eets"
Edit II:
You could also extract the needed partition "system" as system.img from a OTG update and flash it using fastboot. Running a RUU should work , too
Edit III:
You said nothing about you ereased the internal SD, so where are the pervious installation files and your backups gone?

TRPW seems to be ok.
If I press "mount USB-OTG", it says "unable to mount...".
Before I pulled the new zip files from the PC to the phone was in the "booted android" mode. I never tried opening the storage from my computer, when I was in TWRP, so I'm not sure, if it is a driver problem or something other. But I backuped most things this morning from my computer, so technically the driver shouldn't be broken in my understanding.

If I click "Fastboot" in the Bootloader, I just have 3 options: reboot, reboot bootloader, power down
But I don't know, if this is, what you want to know. I cannot install something using fastboot I think?

My fingers are already burning from typing for hours to fix phones lol. If you tick "fastboot" and connect your phone to the computer it will show up "fastboot usb"
Then you can flash .img files using the windows commandline by typing "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
If you never did before or just be not sure about
May be install "Teamviewer" As i will only need some minutes to do.
If you do PLS DO NOT post the id+pass here in the topic BUT send me a pm. Yes people already posted the acces codes here in public chat lol.
To explain how you (or me) can solve actual problems according to your phone:
Flash TWRP 2.7+ revovery to the phone by using fastboot command
Within TWRP you have a "ADB Sideload" feature
Means once the new recovery is installed a Rom.zip can be "pushed" to your sd-card by using ADB command
Then you'll have a flashable rom on your sdcard automatically gets flashed
Just tried all steps on mine own phone. Worked without any issues. Even restored my backup again
Actually, I know it's there - it's just I can't seem to get at it when the phone is normally booted.
I used the OTA method to update to 5.0, then used chainfire to root, and put TWRP 2.8.1.0 back on for recovery - seems successful, but now I can't see internal storage.
When I launch camera, it complains there's no SD card.
When I look at storage in the settings, it says 12GB total, 3GB free - I know most of that is where my videos and such are.
Finally, when I run recovery (TWRP), I can use its file manager and see all the stuff that I can't see when using a normal file manager like root explorer.
What could have happened?

your storage got put into a different file system. its in /sdcard/0/ now instead of /sdcard/. theres a terminal emulator script you can run(search the general section, thread started by SuperSU) or you can move all your files up one level manually.

1)if you've made a backup that can be restored in twrp ,do it.
2)download a Custom ROM and flash It through twrp .only data ,cache and dalvik need to be cleared .you won't lose stuffs in internal storage including photos ,music.
3) if you cant find any custom roms then connect your phone to pc then,in twrp ->mount ->enable mtp.now you can access your storage, backup your files on PC ,then flash stock ROM and later restore .
Hope this helped.

Download that and a gapps for android 6 and also a supersu.zip. enable mtp like earlier and put them on your phone storage .now do a normal wipe in twrp wiping only data ,cache and dalvik(which is a normal factory reset)
And then install the ROM followed by gapps and supersu.
If you didnt wiped your internal storage you won't lose your files.
After booting up in file manager delete the folder called "0"(make sure none of your files that are personal are in there first) and your phone storage should be normal.

When i try to put files to my phone from pc it says"the device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected"
Factory reset doesn't work, it fails every time with a lot of red messages saying "failed to mount '/data' (invalid argument)" and "unable to mount storage"

Looks like flashing that twrp messed up your default storage.
Just so you know you're the 8th person I ran into who had trouble with flashify. Looks like the only way is flashing stock ROM .but don't do it yet we'll look together for a less destructive option.
Can you try to flashing through Odin to see if it works.

There is nothing for me to do except to cry and be mad hahahahahah :crying: :crying:
Do you think there is a solution or should i just accept the fate?
I would just bite the bullet, enter download mode and Odin the stock firmware. Get it over with and start fresh.

You can either flash your stock ROM and be done with it or try and wait for a solution but since your device won't boot and you can't even copy your ROM files to phone I don't think there is much you can do(I did try some searching). Normally when this happens there a new folder called "0" (that behaves as a storage)from where you can transfer your rom file to flash but you say you can't do that here. And since after flashing twrp your phone didn't boot your system and directly booted recovery one would think your whole memory partition including system and internal storage got effed up.
So what you're trying to save may already be gone.you should be mad at your self for putting your trust in an app that has resulted in bricks for many users and flash the stock ROM IMO.
Sorry.
You should always make a backup when doing something that has anything to do with root /customization etc..

Are you sure you don't have your music and images backed up somewhere in the cloud or to your PC? Maybe backed up with Samsung Kies?

Are you 100% familiar with what you can attempt to do with TWRP and your device connected to your PC? When you select "MOUNT" in TWRP what boxes are checked?

Yeah, I have only small bits backed up.
The problem i have with twrp is that it needs to format my device for it to work, the same as the last time i did it. I used my other phone as a security measure but my brother managed to format that one 20 minutes before I screwed this one up, and he did that without my knowledge. So the situation is pretty bad here
Thanks
When you have TWRP open on your device and you are connected to your PC, does your PC recognize the device? If so, what does the device manager say it recognizes the device as? Also, do you have a USB-OTG? If so, you can try to mount OTG in TWRP, select OTG as your storage and perform a backup to your USB-OTG. If it works it.can save your butt.

It recognizes it as portable device, samsung galaxy s7 edge, as it should i think. I can't find a storage device right now to connect it to my phone
See if you can round up a USB-OTG device. That may be the obly thing that saves you for any type of backup. Hope it works
