Anyone here suffering from flickering on the screen edges? - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As the title says, it seems that my Xperia Z5 sometimes flickers on the top and the left side of the screen. It's super annoying but the problem is that it doesn't happen all the time.
Want to send the phone back for repair but I'm not sure if they will repair it since I can't consistently reproduce the problem.
So does anyone here have the same issue? If it's a software issue maybe I will just learn to live with it or get a new phone. Otherwise I will just send it in for repair and hope for the best.
Video to illustrate my point. (Not my video)

Not as obvious but you get the idea.

I think you must send to warranty. It may panel problem, or even worse motherboard problem.

Weird (Repeating) Hardware Problem

I am having a very weird, and oddly repeating hardware problem with my HTC TP.
My original one started having this problem about 3 months after I bought it. The problem had two aspects - the screen appears as if the LCD material in it has moved or changed format (see image below) - and the touch function of it became problematic, often identifying the press in the wrong location.
I gave it to the vendor during warranty, and after some issues with the lab was offered a new device (it was indeed brand new, battery date indicated that). The new device - after less than a month - started having the exact same problem! (I'm giving it for repair tomorrow)
Is anyone familiar with this problem? Is this just a streak of bad luck? or am I doing anything bad to my devices? As far as I know - I'm not doing anything bad to them - the 2nd one was so short with me it haven't even dropped once. And before that I had a imate KJAM for 2.5 years without such problems.
Ideas?
It looks like too much pressure was applied to the LCD screen.
it is odd though - especially as it occured in such a short time on my new device, and I have not done anything especially bad to it
it definitely has the "feel" of a pressed LCD, but this is during rest. btw - in both times it was just the center area, and both cases a very similar size problem.
the only type of pressure I can think of is when it is in my pocket, but comeon, I am quite positive HTC did not design a device that can not withstand being in a pocket.....
it's a random defect that some screens get
and also a sign of worse things to come I believe
had a friend who bought a new one and it already had
it when it got it he of cause sendt it back
so I just coincidently got two of them ?!
That's quite jinxy
anyway - got today back my first phone, repaired (screen replaced).
Let's hope this doesn't re-appear.
Ofer.
sorry a little off the mark

i dont know if anybody has had this or a similar problem but i finally got my phone where i want it. i am running 6.5 on my fuze the only issue i am having is the phone dosent give me any vocal notification when someone is calling me while i am on the phone. i have already made sure that call waiting is set to notify me in the phone services but still dosent beep. if someone calls me it does come through cause if i am looking i can see it just dont hear it. it even alerts me after the fact telling me i have a missed call. just not during

LCD Ghosting/Burn In when using Custom Roms

I recently had a problem with my 1st Touch Pro with image ghosting/ burn in and ive just had it replaced. Now the same problem is happening with the new device. The problem only seams to happen with custom roms being used on the device. If i re-flash my phone back to the default/stock rom i get no screen problems at all.
Any idea why this only happens on custom roms and not the default/stock rom??
edit: ive attached an example of what i mean in image ghosting/burn in. Just in case some people wasn't sure what i meant by it.
More info?
Heya! What was the last ROM you had this problem with? Version info would be extremely helpful as I have heard that specific builds have some graphics bugs.
I've had that same issue as well on 2 different fuze's. Using various builds of EnergyROMs... However, after reflashing to stock and using it awhile, I'd get the ghosting on that too.
Anyone have any ideas?
Ehh my 2nd Fuze is doing this so I'm getting a replacement, and I'll just do the HTC ROM upgrade and keep WM6.1. I'm tired of it, and the landscape view also distorts the start menu icons 90% of the time.
Having flashed back to a stock rom, doing a hard reset... Playing with it for awhile... The ghosting is evident on it as well... I've also had where the bottom section of the screen will flicker quickly...
Anyone else?
I think it's a hardware defect. My first phone did that, and then after a few weeks, I had to get a warranty replacement because the screen eventually went completely black after doing it intermittently).
I've had both ghosting effects & occasional rapid flickering since I first bought the Fuze back in November. It's intermittent but happens most when the device is hot (either from use or simply being in a hot location). So far it always clears up after a while. This happened on the stock rom and every custom rom I've used so far.
I'm fairly certain it's a hardware issue with the Fuze/TP because the ghost will tend to remain there for a while even after a soft reset.
Hopefully my good fortune continues and it doesn't end up breaking permanently some day.
it is definitely a hardware issue.
I just received a "repaired" phone back from HTC today only to turn it on and find the same problem. I had to call again today and complain...and the only thing they could do for me was ask me to send it in again....so pissed.
I literally got 5x FUZE replacements and each had this until this last one I've gotten...!

were they replaced through HTC or ATT?
I am on my third Fuze.
First day when I upgraded to Fuze the screen started doing this. So I took it back to AT&T for replacement. On the drive back home screen on second device started doing exact same thing. Took it back and got yet another replacement. This one works, but I have seen it happen once or twice in the 3 or 4 months I've had it.
AT&T also told me when I got this phone that it was the last exchange I could make for the 90-day exchange. If I had another problem I'd have to send this back to the company. WTF is that all about? You're going to inconvenience me because you keep giving me bad eggs? At least this one works right.
Is anyone with a Touch Pro having the same issues? Or is it all just us AT&T customers?
I have an O2 Xda Touch Pro. The only symptom I have that remotely resembles the ones listed here is the flickering at the bottom. But, in my case at least, the flickering is caused by a particular shade of gray displayed in Opera...and that's the only time it happens. So, again for me, it seems to be a software issue.
Drew
Flickering is another side affect that mine occasionally has... just in the bottom 1/5th or so of the screen... Most easily seen when in landscape mode in messaging.
those are all hardware issues too, its just only being displayed because that certain shade of grey is whats making it visibly noticeable.
Well, we'll see if replacement number 4 has the same issues soon...
They actually offered me a BlackBerry Bold/9000 as a replacement phone like it is even in the same universe.
Hardware differences?
Anyone with a buggy Fuze want to post the part number / sku number etc...? Maybe we are looking at a bad batch or a bad but unannounced hardware version?
I had this too on energyrom, I allways passed it off as a touch flow 3d opengl issue which would draw to the screen.
But thinking about it, it does occour when the device is hot, and the screen flickers also.
But It allways goes away after a soft reset for me.
Vodaphone UK TP
I have this problem too :/
Well, I just got my replacement, and it is doing it as well. I'll post some screen shots of it later on today.
Anyone want to tell me what numbers we want/need?

[Q] Random Freezing. HELP! Advice Needed

Hello All,
I am new to this forum. I bought my sensation about two weeks ago. When I was getting into my car one day, the phone slipped out of my shorts and fell, with the screen hitting the concrete. The screen and everything was intact, the phone was only lightly scratched.
Recently, however, my sensation has occasionally been freezing. Its strange because it does not occur in an app. It only occurs when I am scrolling through the homepages or going through the full list of apps. It usually begins working again by itself after about a minute or so. I have done a factory reset, and this problem has reoccurred, just once. The issue only occurs maybe once every few days and isnt that big of a problem. I just have a few questions.
Is this problem most likely software related? Im not sure if it only started happening after I dropped the phone, but it seems to me like this is software related?
Is there anything I can do to fix it? Will the OTA update (if tmobile does it) fix the problem?
Finally, what I am most worried about: is there any possibility (or is it likely) that my phone's condition might worsen later on down the road???
I would like to hear any advice you guys have. Is there anything other than a reset that might be able to fix the problem?

I believe it's the software (sense 3.0) Try changing your home screen. I don't get issues like this since I've changed my homescreen. Try Launcherpro or Go Launcher
do you think that dropping my phone has anything to do with it? Also, do you think it might get worse over time?
Thanks
I dont think it has to do with ur phone dropping...
The random freezes/ force closes/ re-boots seem to be a problem.. wait for the s-off and then some solid custom roms Should fix it all..

I use to think that that's a problem with phones.. but I don't think it actually does has anything to do with the phone acting up, unless it was dropped in a pool.. but otherwise, it's just the software.. sense 3.0 seems really buggy on mines.

[Q] Screen flickering/shifting/cycling up

For 6 months, my Nexus 5 have been the best thing that happened to my life. But after the 4.4.3 update around Jun13, this display issue appears. Display keeps shifting upward in a continuous manner. For example, the keyboard is now in the middle, and the top part is below, it keeps flickering and moving. So I thought it may be a software bug since it coincided with the update (and no, I did not drop it). I tried all (factory reset, turn auto settings off, Developer options settings) to no avail. I contacted Google support and after a few emails, they told me to contact Japan support team. I don't know anyone from Japan. (Actually I do, but when he called them, the Google person couldn't speak English and my friend can't speak sufficient Japanese). (Note: A friend of another friend bought this phone from Google Store Japan)
So I thought, wth, let's open the back, maybe there're loose connections, like the battery or something. But now the adhesive is tampered with, a small dent in the case (due to the very strong adhesive) and the back does not pop completely back. One corner is a bit loose, so there's no fooling them that I have opened it.
I updated to 4.4.4 and new issue, the display is gone, just backlight. I managed to fix this eventually. Now I'm back to 4.4.2, and the display is still shifting. During bootup, Google logo is stable, but the next animation is shifting. Bootloader is stable, but sometimes it moves up a grid after I press a button. So I assume that the display moves when the system processes something.
So my conclusion now is that this is probably hardware/GPU issue. Or is it? My warranty is as good as void already since I can't communicate with Japanese, and since I opened the back, it really is void already. I have 2 immediate plans of attack: 1) flash a custom rom, if software issue; 2) buy a triwing screwdriver to check the back, if loose hardware.
Any thoughts?
You have answered your questions already m8.. If I were you, I would find someone who can speak Japanese and tell them to contact Google support and act as a interpreter.. I'm sure you will find someone in your workplace.
Since you've opened up the back and damaged the device to a point where it doesn't pop back, the warranty is gone most probably. But I would still contact Google first and then go-ahead with tampering the hardware.

It is incredible, i have exactly the same problem and i did the same as tsuwariwarirap did. So if it is the same issue could be a kind of software problem? Or maybe all the nexus5 hardware will have issues with 4.4.3 or 4.4.4 ?

It's a hardware issue. A software update can't cause the flex cable or the display to go bad like that. If you have flashed back to fully stock and still have these issues, your only option is to replace the damaged parts.
Hi, do you mean this kind of issue
How did you solve this?!

Camera Auto Focus problem / bug GALAXY S6

Hi Guys,
Just got my phone replaced because the screen was sometimes unresponsive when layed flat on a surface.
Now I got a problem with the rear facing camera. When I open the camera app the auto focus doesn't always work. As result I get very blurry photo's
I made a short video to show you guys the problem:
Can you guys tell me if this could be a hardware or software problem. I performed a hard reset and reboot but the problem still occurs from time to time.
Ps. I didnt drop my phone and I removed the plastic of the camera lens and led flash, so that cant be the problem.
Since the problem cant be solved with a hard reset, I guess it's a hardware problem. So I contacted my carrier and I will get a new phone. Hopefully this time a phone without problems/bugs.
I will keep you guys updated.
I have that problem too, shaking the phone unlock the focus. It seems to be hardware problem, using the manual focus in pro mode change nothing, only way to fix it for me is wait like 30 to 60s or shake the phone.
I try to get a replacement but obviously, it works perfectly the two times they check :silly:
I had the same problem in the store like you. When I wanted to show the problem to a shop assistant, the camera worked perfectly :silly:
But (thankfully) they believed me and one of these days I will get a replacement because they didnt had any in stock to give me right away.
Maybe you can show them the video on YouTube and tell them that there are more people with the same problem?
I think I will keep it like this for now, and I will ask for a replacement just before the warranty end, so I will have a new phone ^^ I'm used to it now, if it bug, I just shake it and all is fine.
Yeah that would be great. Only I'm afraid that here in the Netherlands the phone will be send to get repaired instead of getting replaced. Only in the first two months i can get it replaced, at least that is what the T-mobile shop assistant said to me.
One of my friend has the same issue. She figured out that she "just" needs to hit the phone on its front top left corner (not hard) and it suddenly works.
yeah thnx, that works most of the time. Still I would bring it back to get it repaired or get a replacement. Yesterday for example, I wanted to take a picture of a fast bike passing through but I ended up with a blurry picture. That shouldnt had happened and I dont want it to happen again.
Still thanks for the tip.
i have the same problem.. the camera take too long to focus or does not focus at all, i need to shake the phone.. i called tmobile and they will give me a replacement.
root the phone then add this to build.prop to fix it
ro.ril.sensor.sleep.control=0

Where do I add that line in the build prop?
I have almost the same problem. Only facing this issue on third party camera apps like Snapchat or Facebook messenger, besides that it works fine. No problems on stock (yet).
Similar Issue
I went hiking one day back at the end of May, and inadvertently left my S6 in the car, which of course, got very hot during the day. After getting back to my car almost 9 hours later, my phone was almost too hot to even touch. I promptly removed the slim case that was on it, and held it up to the A/C (not ice cold, was trying to avoid condensation).
Ever since then, when going into 3rd party apps (most notably Snapchat, and sometimes even the stock camera app) the auto-focus motor seems to get stuck.
The easiest fix for me so far seems to be shaking my phone up and down rapidly 1-2 times. Upon doing this, I can hear a faint *click* and the focus works as normal.
This is very obnoxious as I've missed many shots due to having to do this (and sometimes it doesn't always work). Hard reset has done nothing, so I'm assuming maybe something in the camera got damaged due to excessive heat.
***Edit: After talking to my insurance provider (Squaretrade), they told me that this was still under manufacturer warranty, and to go through my carrier. After taking the phone to Verizon, it was discovered that the water-damage indicator had the slightest bit of red/pink on it, deeming it "water damaged". I later checked this myself at home and there definitely was some red on the strip.
Contacted Squaretrade again, informing them of the new situation, and they advised they would send a refund for the phone (since it was from eBay).
Hopefully the new phone will not have this issue!
Hi guys ..
I was suffering from the same problem .
The problem is the focus of the camera in galaxy s6 just like the Video, .
The solution is:
delete this line : ro.ril.sensor.sleep.control = 0
from ( build.prop )
you can find it in : system/build.prop
Using this program with root access : (Root Browser)
*i can not insert the link because i am a new user here .
after you click on build.prop chose (RB Text Editor)
note : (i am arabic man so my english is not good )
Anyone managed to fix this issue with the method above?
Yup..This is still common.. How does one fix without root?
Solution not working for me I did non fount the line ro.ril.sensor.sleep.control = 0 in my build.prop.. i tried to add the line but nothing changed problem still remains
I had the same camera issue. I took my phone to Samsung and they replaced the camera module.
Now it works perfectly.
Saludos ?
I can't go to Samsung, i have knox counter altered..no warranty for me

So what? I have that to, went to an official Samsung Store and they (tried) to fix it
Having the problem myself btw, but if i aim the sensor to the ground en go back up its fixed, not so big problem. Only when selling the phone i want it fixed so its worth more...
