F.A.Q
Q. What if my IMEI is bad or blacklisted?
A. There are a few times of blacklist... T-Mobile seems to block INTERNAL only if non payment. Others will block if non payment or lost/stolen.
This does not effect SIM unlock, I can do it regardless.... However, you WILL NOT GET NETWORK SIGNAL IF BLOCKED
Check here for T-mobile https://www.t-mobile.com/verifyIMEI.aspx and also here for all models http://imei24.com/blacklist_check/
If you are not sure ask first!
Q. Can you change/repair my IMEI?
A. HELL NO. This is not only against XDA Rules but it is illegal in most countries, including mine.
Q. Is this really free?
A. Yes, although I do hope for a donation for my time and effort
Q. When are you available?
A. See below.
Q. Can we get on with it all ready?
A. Yes!

OK, here goes. I am running COS 12.1, rooted, with an unlocked bootloader. I recently upgraded to Android Pay after using Google Wallet for NFC payments for years on my old GS4 and my OnePlus One.
At first, I was unable to add my payment card due to being rooted. Easily fixed, I unrooted using SuperSU to do a full unroot and was able to add my card and complete the app setup.
The showstopper is that whenever I try to use it at a merchant, I end up with a screen that says Confirm your password - you must unlock to use Android Pay. No matter how many times I enter my password it just keeps asking over and over. I disabled the quick unlock feature under lock screen settings just in case that was the issue, but it made no difference. An ongoing support case with Google just came back with the following:
"The specific error message that you saw means that your device can't support Android Pay's advanced security. It seems that the phone manufacturer has modified the operating system to the point where it is no longer compatible with our software. You may want to use Android Pay on a different device for the most secure payments."
So, has anyone running COS 12.1 had any luck with Android Pay? Thoughts, comments, suggestions are all welcome.

I first tried it with root enabled, then when that didn't work I did the full unroot. I will try with just disabling SU over the weekend and see what happens.

yeah with stock no need to full unroot. you can have bootloader unlocked root added and all that. Its just when you set it up make sure its stock root and not by using the supersu zip file. My findings was when I flashed Supersu it did not work but if I flashed stock rom then let TWRP inject root it worked. Of course I unchecked the option in supersu set up Android Pay then found one of those coke machines that take Android pay and tested it out.
Hi guys, I thought I just got a heck of a deal when I picked up a 64gb Note 5 for only $75 today off of the app LetGo (kinda like craigslist). The guy I bought it from was very nice and showed me that everything on the phone was in working order and let me use it myself to test it out. I gave him $75 and brought it home only to factory reset it and Google Account lock it in the process. I believe it is currently on 5.1.1, no idea what security update. I tried the FRP bypass that uses Realterm as well as the wifi disconnect method and neither worked. Realterm doesn't seem to be sending the commands to the device. It instead just displays the command I sent in green lettering and nothing else. I am really getting hopeless now. The guy I bought it from wont answer my texts or calls so i can't get his gmail account or anything. I doubt it is stolen or anything due to the fact he gave me the box with the charger, s pen tips, sim tool, and everything. And yes, I checked and the serial number on the box does match the one on the phone. I am about to attempt to use odin to update it to 6.0.1 and see if the Realterm method works then. Does anyone have any ideas? It is for Sprint if that matters. Is it possible to root or flash a custom rom or anything to get passed this? Any help will be so greatly appreciated. This day started out so exciting and now is truly disappointing.
Thanks guys.
Ok, I got it figured out! I had to use odin and downgrade to N920PVPU2AOI6. Then downgrade bootloader to SM-N920P_OK3_BOOTLOADER. Then was able to insert a flash drive with the Google Bypass USB OTG.apk app on it into my phone. It automatically opened My Files when inserted, then I installed to app and bypassed it. The only thing now is in Download mode it still says "FRP lock: On" Although it seems to be fully functional and currently has my google account on it.

This thread is now completely dedicated to the aspect of Carrier Switching on the Snapdragon model of the Galaxy S8/S8+, the current root progress can be seen here:
Current ROOT Progress for G950U/G955U Snapdragon
Please Note that if your device is network locked this WILL NOT unlock it for use on other carriers, however it will allow the switching of carriers and carrier specific features on network unlocked devices just by changing sim cards, the device will reboot and your done. As for those with a network locked device this thread still applies to you, if you are interested in a bloat free experience(that is faster and smoother than stock touchwiz), on your Galaxy S8/S8+
Let's Begin!
Download the firmware for the unlocked S8/S8+ here:
G950U1UE1AQDC_XAA
Download the Prince Cosmy version of Odin here:
Odin_3.12.3_Modified
Enable developer options on your device:
Settings----->About Phone----->Click Build Number 7 times
Enable USB Debugging:
Settings----->Developer Options-----USB Debugging
Put your device into download mode: Volume Down + Bixby + Power
(accept the warning and connect your device to your computer)
Take the G950U1.zip you downloaded in step 1 and extract it, then place the BL,AP,CP,and CSC files into their corresponding places within Odin and press start
Once finished the device will boot back up and you will be free to disconnect it from your computer
You now have the unlocked, bloat free, firmware on your S8/S8+

My build number is SM-G950A and my firmware is G950USQU1AQD9. I am quite familiar with the concept and process of rooting but I have never had an opportunity to actually get into it. I was wondering if my device is compatible with this firmware. If so I am fine with testing so long as there is a reliable way to restore my phone if something were to happen.

I went ahead and did the favors of doing some testing, in terms of restoral anyhow. From my experience, you do not have access to the usual desktop, and you have very few apps by default(none actually, just settings). I was able to revert to the original stock firmware via odin without a hitch. I did not try installing TWRP on this firmware however, but I can confirm the existence of OEM Unlock, which, by itself, claims to unlock the bootloader.

I just got done chatting with Nokia support (both chat and email) about getting the required unlock.key file that you need to unlock the bootloader for the Nokia 8, which they said they would unlock. First, a little background. The process Nokia wants you to go through to get the file is to download an apk of theirs which will analyze your phone a bit and then generate a code which you put into a form on their website to get the file emailed to you. Rather clunky but alright. I do so, but then I get an error when the apk runs. "Error messages: Device not support." Very well. I then talk to support. Chat had no idea how to fix it. Email fared just as well. I will copypaste the entire exchange. (Save for the original email I sent as I forgot to save it. Sorry about that.)

Thank you for getting in touch with Nokia Mobile Care. It's important for us to have you as our customer.
I can see that you are trying to unlock your phone's bootloader, you have already downloaded the app and you are receiving the message saying that "device not supported".
HMD Global allows the bootloader on certain Nokia phones to be unlocked, allowing for customizations. This feature is intended for developers only.
Once the device is being unlocked, it is no longer covered by the manufacturer's limited warranty provided by HMD Global.
If you have religiously followed the steps my colleague provided to you on the previous e-mail and after it you have received the message "Device not Supported" this mean that your device is not supported to have the bootloader unlocked.
If you are facing some issue with your phone, you can send it to a repair center, out specialists has the information on how to handle it. Note that Nokia only provides the possibilities to unlock bootloader to developers.
We hope that the above information is useful.

^ This is not correct at all. At least for the Nokia 8. https://twitter.com/sarvikas/status/1045298106818949120
I have followed the prior instructions rigorously, but since the apk does not work, I must ask you for the needed "unlock.key" file. I am very well aware of the consequences of unlocking the bootloader.

Thank you for getting back to us. I'm sorry to hear that the previous solutions didn't make any difference.
I can see that you are not happy about the previous answer you have had. I understand that can be frustrating sometimes.
As explained before the allowing will depend on many factors, as market, for example. If you have the app running well, if you have tried all the steps to have your bootloader unlocked and still receiving the message "device not supported" there is no other reason than that the app itself is saying the device you are trying to unlock is not supported.
Did you tried to uninstall and reinstall the app? did you tried to restart the process?
Note that here we are a customer care for technical issues customer may face with their device, we do not produce the rules or the policy we just follow then. There is no other advise to you at this moment.

So basically, to sum up, if you're thinking of unlocking the bootloader at all for any reason, steer WAY CLEAR of this phone. My phone may for whatever reason have fallen through the cracks perhaps, but a lot more people than me are reporting this issue. On top of that, I've checked my phone's IMEI to be sure it wasn't stolen or fake and it was perfectly fine and legit. Honestly, I hate that I have to post this message because the Nokia 8 actually has some features I like that aren't really on other phones, but because of this software travesty, I can't recommend it at all.
Nokia, if you're out there, this is a disgrace in both software and support. Please fix this.
Hi
I have the Nokia 8 TA-1012 but I have not tried to unlock the BL. I am currently on Pie so see no reason for doing so as I am happy with the OS.
As most people do not buy a phone to modify the OS I see no problem not recommending this phone for normal use.

While I didn't unlock through official methods, it might be good to figure out what models of Nokia 8 are affected. Maybe a specific model is affected?

It is not related to models, but instead to the build ID's the phones run. (Nokia software is completely generic) Back when Nokia announced the unlock process and the october security patch dropped, phones on october patch started to
report the same issue the OP has encountered. One or two weeks later (after some public outrage ) the app started working again, likely because Nokia added the build ID of the october patch to their
database of allowed versions.
The only solution that doesn't rely on Nokia might be to tear apart their apk and use a rooted phone or an emulator to fake the properties it reads, so the app thinks it runs on a security patch that is supported.
But this approach requires people to send their IMEI to random people on the internet so there are additional risks.

I have heard someone else mention this as well. How did you unofficially unlock the bootloader?

Perhaps downgrading and then trying the unlock app again might work?: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-8/how-to/how-downgraded-pie-to-oreo-t3888178

To downgrade without an unlocked bootloader, you need a full OTA image that is configured accordingly, directly from Nokia. You boot into stock recovery and sideload that image, and in theory you should get an Oreo system.
However: The only full OTA downgrade I have done so far was using the revert-OTA from the Pie Beta Labs build. That gives you Oreo with November / December update and AFAIK those builds are not enabled.
The only other full OTA I know of happened it May, and it might be possible to sideload that one to get a system that you can then update and unlock on September / October patch.
But I never used this zip file so I don't know if stock recovery would accept and flash it if you sideload it.
If anyone here wants to try it out: You can download the file from my nokia cloud folder (https://bit.ly/nokia-nb1 - OTA Updates/NB1-488B-00WW-B01-update.zip).
I would be curious about the results. (Only oreo users should try this.. When you downgrade a Pie install it corrupts your userdata)
(I am intentionally not posting a detailed guide. If you can sideload this, you also know about the risks of messing with your phones software )

I'm your man. With nothing left to lose. o_o Will report back with the results ASAP.
I'm back and with bad news. The update process via the recovery menu seemed to run into an error where it complained about the timestamp on the update zip being too old, but for whatever reason, it proceeded anyway. OK, wiped the data (what data?) and did a factory reset, now it's booting up. I check the system information to be sure and it is 8.1.0. Installed the apk. Ran it. AND THEN...
Device not support.
I'm gonna try this with the zip mentioned in frankoid's post and do another update again, but honestly, it looks like Nokia just wants to be an asshole at this point.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SUCCESS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This update zip is what you need: https://android.googleapis.com/pack.../f9cb380bd9c2bf1b6ddebcab9dcf389843eb2d39.zip
It may be different for the TA-1012, but according to that earlier post, it does not seem to be the case. Nevertheless, just to be safe, here's the zip for the TA-1012: https://android.googleapis.com/pack.../139c94fd08f52fbd3b852ab4ef5c6515fffb784e.zip (I don't have a TA-1012 so I wasn't able to test this particular zip.)
So basically, to make sure there's no problems, make sure in the Developer's options on the phone that OEM unlocking is enabled, then put your SD card into the phone. Plug the phone into your computer. Copy the update zip that you need somewhere onto the SD card. Disconnect the USB cable. Shut down the phone. Then, while holding down the Volume Up button, reconnect the USB cable. You should see a sad android with "No command" displayed. Now release the Volume Up button. Then hold down the power button and then JUST PRESS once on the Volume Up button. You should be at a recovery menu. Using the volume keys, scroll down to the 'Apply update on SD card' option and select it. Select the zip that you copied over to the SD card earlier and then let it install for a while. It will probably pop up with a 'timestamp too old' error, but just ignore this. The update will install anyway. Then once it's done, do a factory reset on the phone and then shut down. MAKE SURE THERE'S NO SIM CARD IN THE PHONE.
Now that's out of the way, just click through the first-time setup screens but DO NOT ENABLE WI-FI or any kind of internet connection. We don't want the phone to update itself back to Android 9. Now plug the phone in again. Copy the bootloaderunlocker apk from Nokia's website onto the phone. Install it. Put in the email address you want the unlock key emailed to. Then voila! You'll get the verification code. Put it into the form on Nokia's website and you'll be emailed an unlock.key file. From there, the site will tell you how to proceed.

Great to hear that you got it working! My zip likely not worked because it just throws you back half a year (where official unlock didn't even exist) - you would have to update until you find a security patch that works.
But if November patch worked for you thats great! Since the May OTA worked for you that also means that people could choose to use the unofficial (paid) unlock method so Nokia doesn't know about whether they are locked or unlocked (warranty reasons).
Those OTA zips are model-agnostic btw. Whether they say TA-1004 or TA-1012 doesn't matter, they are the same. Only google makes that distinction on their servers, the software doesn't.

Did you touch the option in the past at all? If you did, it will be greyed out. As long as it's switched on though, it's fine. (I heard it will "ungrey" itself after a week, but there you go.)
No, did not do anything and it is off and greyed. I don't think it will magically ungrey itself. I did however download that unlock.apk and sent out email and pin, now waiting if a reply will come with the unlock code and procedure. Its been a few hours and no reply, so perhaps that's not working either.

I'm assuming you have a brand new TA-1004? And yeah, you should have gotten back a code long ago.
Try some of these options. https://www.theandroidsoul.com/how-to-fix-oem-unlock-greyed-out-or-oem-unlock-disabled-problem/
It could be though that it's just been flat out disabled due to region or whatever. If the solutions in the above link don't work, try downgrading back anyway and then using the apk as explained in an earlier post of mine.
It seems to be a case of "flat out disabled". I did a factory reset already and this setting won't change. I actually bought 2 of those phones and on both is the same.
How do I see or find out what region they are for?
And for the booloader, seems I have to go the old fashion way now...

The Samsung Galaxy A71 model SM-A716U by AT&T which has a normally unlockable bootloader has thanks to afaneh92 been unlocked. And he has made a TWRP version for it. Mine is now rooted with TWRP installed.
The version of TWRP was just built today by afaneh92 and it may still need a few tweaks per afaneh92 to be fully ready for prime time but so far it seems to be working fine. He was also very helpful in installing TWRP and getting root done on this model.
I'm not sure of all the details regarding how this locked bootloader is unlocked but it is a pay service that involves using your phones DID number which is then used to make a customized file for your specific phone and is flashed with Odin. Using afaneh92 for this it had a waiting time of only a couple minutes to get the file.
See this thread for afaneh92's info to get your bootloader unlocked on this model if you want root and TWRP:
Samsung Galaxy Bootloader Unlocks for normally unlockable Bootloaders
If there is interest I'll detail the steps to get all this done. I didn't have all the details when I started so I got help from afaneh92 via Telegram for the process. You will need to have Telegram either on your PC or phone to communicate with afaneh92 and to get the needed info and file built for your phone.
When you decide to unlock your bootloader these directions will help you be prepared and will avoid tying up afaneh92 too much as I know he barely gets any time to sleep with all that he does Since I'll assume you are not unlocking your bootloader for fun of an unlock the directions below will help you get Root and TWRP installed. TWRP is the easiest way to install Magisk and get root.
First you will want to do a complete backup of your phone. I suggest Samsung Smart Switch or MyBackup Pro or both
Then you need to get your phones DID number. You can see it on the download screen. Easy way to get into download is to turn off your phone, then hold volume up and volume down and the plug in USB cable to your computer (charger may also work). Then when you see the aqua color screen hit volume up to go into download mode. There are a couple other methods listed on the page afaneh92 has in the link above.
Save the DID number and it will be good to take a picture of the Download screen also as afaneh92 may request that.
Make sure you have the patched version of Odin from here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachments/odin3-v3-14-1_3b_patched-zip.5158507/
Also get multidisabler.zip and vbmeta_disabled.tar if you don't have it.
Multidisabler.zip can be found here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/pie-10-11-system-as-root-
multidisabler-disables-encryption-vaultkeeper-auto-flash-of-stock-recovery-proca-wsm-cass-etc.3919714/
Also get the Magisk.zip file from here: https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases/download/v21.4/Magisk-v21.4.zip
Then get on Telegram to contact afaneh92 from his link for his channel in the link above. Once you make payment he will get the .tar file for your phone. It can be just a couple minutes or a day or so I believe depending on his source being available. Mine only took a couple minutes. Once you have the fix file
for the bootloader unlock you will use the patch Odin to flash it to the AP section. Upon reboot the phone will take a little while to start up as it's like a factory reset and your data is wiped.
After you have gone through the phone setup wizard you will want to reset Odin, go into Download mode again and flash vbmeta_disabled.tar to the USER_DATA section in Odin. And if afaneh92 has TWRP available you can flash it into the AP section at the same time. Before pressing start in Odin be ready to quickly press volume up and power button once the phone reboots and the screen goes black. The release when you see the Logo. The you will be in TWRP.
Use adb to push multidisabler.zip onto your phone. Since data is encrypted at this point there is no use in
copying it there ahead of time. Just use "adb push multidisabler.zip /" which will copy it to root of phone storage where you can see it with TWRP. After flashing it do not wipe cache / Dalvik.
Then in TWRP choose Format data and type yes to confirm. Then reboot TWRP into recovery (TWRP)
In TWRP flash multidisabler.zip Then format data and answer Yes.
Then the best way to install Magisk is to flash it now from TWRP with "Install".
Reboot and check whether Magisk Manager is installed. If for some reason it isn’t installed automatically,
manually install Magisk Manager and with Wifi on allow it to do any updates.
Here is one other way to get your DID number (also shown in afaneh92's message thread above):
adb shell getprop ro.boot.em.did
or by Android terminal: getprop ro.boot.em.did
After talking to afaneh92 I believe he will be ready to release TWRP for the Galaxy A71 in a day or two. I am not sure yet if it will cover all the Snapdragon A71's or which exact models as I haven't asked about that but the one I tested today seems to work very well on the A716U.
This thread is where you can now get TWRP : [RECOVERY][UNOFFICIAL] TWRP for Galaxy A71 5G (Snapdragon)
Confirmed legitimate. Currently running his custom TWRP as well. He reaponded quickly too. It is worth the money to me.
So nobody's addressed the million-dollar question. What does Afeneh92 charge for this service?
Also, do we need to be on a specific version for this to work? I haven't updated my phone since I bought it because I've been waiting for a root method to be developed. Would he be able to root if I update to the latest software? Will I be able to update it after he roots it?
edit: nevermind the first question, it looks like the current price is $65 for the A71 5G.

Hey man is yours from ATT ? I got my mom one and wanted to useon Cricket AIO . ATT owns Cricket and uses same network so does Safelink . Well cricket sim works for 5 mins no problem the says the imei is uncompatible. Safelink sim works fine . Are there some gsi for this phone ? That may help it or modules to spoof lol .
Hey was wondering if anyone has or can make a backup of modemst1 and modemst2 for A 71 5g snapdragon ? I had an issue registering on network and found a guide using fastbootcommands to erase those and that would fix it. However now it won't recognize any sim card and I've downgraded and did Ota to 3.0 again after formatting data in twrp. I ve tried twrp backup and that didn't fix it .

Hi,
You mentioned the A71 A716U and in the OP mention "AT&T". Is that what the A716U is? The AT&T model?
I ask because I just bought two of them, but they're Unlocked and someone else is using it with my Carrier (MetroPCS, now called Metro by T-Mobile) and so it didn't mention which Carrier the model normally ties to.
If so, I still use this same BootLoader Unlocker that he creates, right? I definitely want to Root both phones.
I didn't see the steps for Rooting here (I think you mentioned listing the steps), but I'll keep looking.
Thank You,
hi Zeus i believe the A716U is the north american A71 5G and diffrent cell carriers can be flashed for the firmware part, the carrier lock is i think controlled by you but you've got to ask your cell provider to unlock it carrier wise if you owe nothing for the device and it it isnt blacklisted or stolen the imei, also the devices are usually? branded one particular carrier, to find that out go into download mode and it should have a csc cell provider code at the top. =) hope this helps?
Hi,
I went to the link where the "multidisabler.zip" file is and got that, but when I looked for the "vbmeta_disabled.tar" file, I don't see it on that page. Where can I get that one, please?
I ask, because I've never heard of that one before and so I don't know if it's specific for this phone and so was worried about just grabbing any file from wherever (on XDA) with that name.
Thanks!

Oh, maybe I wasn't clear (my fault). I don't mean the Cell Carrier. I bought that part Unlocked. I'm talking about Unlocking the BootLoader.
Thank you for taking the time to respond! I appreciate it!
