cannot flash twrp to OxygenOS v2.1.4 - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm trying to get nethunter installed on this oneplus one I have come across.
Android ver 5.1.1
android sec patch level December 1, 2015
OxygenOs version 2.1.4
after " fastboot oem unlock" twice completes in 0.00 seconds then "fastboot reboot"
I then reboot again into fastboot and "fastboot flash recovery flash twrp-3.1.1-0-bacon.img" completes in .344 seconds (or something like that)
when I reboot from advanced reboot menu to recovery it still shows stock recovery.
when I reboot from "power-vol/down" still shows stock recovery.
do I need to restore device to factory original? (if possible) I installed nethunter 3.0 on nexus 7 tablet with multirom. was hoping to do the same with opo.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
I guess it thought it was going to be a strait forward, of
A. Flash twrp
B. backup image and flash cm13
C. flash su if not burned into rom and install busy box
D. install multirom manager
E. install nethunter zip from multirom-twrp
got stuck at step A. lol

Flash TWRP again and this time instead of rebooting, just disconnect your device and press power+vol(-).Are you sure you're using Multirom-TWRP?

How to install TWRP after Magisk?
I have a OnePlus 6 running Oxygen OS 9.0 and I managed to install Magisk by obtaining the stock boot image and using the magisk manager app to patch it to include magisk, then I flashed the patched boot.img using fastboot and ADB.
The reason I did it this way is that every time I tried to boot with twrp.img in order to flash twrp.zip, I would run into a screen saying Qualcomm CrashDump Mode and TWRP wouldn't boot.
Now I want to install TWRP and I was wondering if there is any way of doing it by using Magisk, so I wouldn't have to boot twrp.img.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Same problem here. Already tried to boot every version of TWRP without success.

If you have magisk manager with working root.... Then YES you can.... Just download Official TWRP app from GPlay... Open it give root permissions and follow the onscreen instructions.... Thats it...and yes use the zip not the img file

But there's no button to flash, I open the app, select flash recovery, select device, but theres no button to flash it.
See screenshot
do you have fastboot and adb installed on your computer? I assume so as you have oem unlocked to flash magisk, correct?
Copy the TWRP file that ends with .img to your desktop
if so, open a command prompt (windows key +R and type cmd press enter)
type "cd desktop" without quotes and press enter
type fastboot boot "twrp.img" (whatever the file name actually is)
Congrats, you are now in TWRP. But wait, there's more! if you reboot to system or other wise leave TWRP at this point you will revert back to stock. to flash recovery onto your device permanently, install the TWRP.ZIP (The ZIP is IMPORTANT) as it changes the boot on the OP6 to have the TWRP image (oh, by the way, there is no recovery partition on OP6 like previous devices [Thanks A/B partition!])
Now you can reboot to your hearts content. remember if you update OOS, you will lose the custom recovery, so flash the TWRP.zip after every update!

Yes I have fastboot and ADB on my computer (Linux btw), and as I mentioned it the first post, I already tried that, except that instead of booting into TWRP after "fastboot boot twrp.img" I got to a screen saying Qualcomm CrashDump mode (see attached image (the image might not be exactly the same as mine, I found that on the internet because I don't have my computer to reproduce it now)).
super odd. maybe your boot image is corrupt? still doesn't explain why fastboot boot isn't working though... Try bluSpark's TWRP image. it's a solid build and I am not having issues with it.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/development/kernel-t3800965/page17
or you can also try swapping to the other partition by typing 'fastboot --set-active=_a' (or fastboot --set-active=_b) and booting to that recovery.
if that doesn't work for ya, try and restore stock via fastboot is my only suggestion:

I wonder if this problem has been solved? After having Root without TWRP since last year, I decided to flash TWRP now because I miss having a Nandroid backup. But just like op, right after I type in "fastboot boot TWRP.img", I end up with that Qualcomm crash dump error, resulting in a fastboot boot loop every time I restart the phone. My only recourse is to use the MSM flash tool that reflashes everything and returns the phone into factory stock. In the process wiping out all my data. I don't think there's anything corrupted
EDIT: the problem wasn't the procedure; it was the damned bootable TWRP .img files. I downloaded different TWRP.img versions, and they all failed to flash into temporary TWRP, except for this one that I found here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1CJoBQ5ZuAExv27XLWwLMFYfHoLEu5YFJ You can use this bootable .img to flash any TWRP version compatible with your device
Does it work for Android 10?

Hello I'm having magisk root access and official TWRP app but can't use it for NAndroid backup, how can I use the app for backup and fishing custom ROM?

Cannot get ROMs to boot after installing from TWRP

I have had success flashing two ROMS (Lineage OS with MicroG and HavocOS) so far, but at some point, I am now getting nowhere fast trying to reinstall either of these after several clean attempts. I keep ending up at a black screen with a blue light and no more TWRP and no more bootable OS.
Here's what I did...
Starting fresh... Used MSMDownloadTool V4 to install OOS (enchilada_22_O.09_180517) then updated with local update file (OnePlus6Oxygen_22_OTA_030_all_1904032206)
Then, enable developer options, OEM unlock, USB debugging, advanced reboot
Reboot to fastboot and execute "fastboot oem unlock" in Powershell with admin rights
Reboot to OOS, then check developer options again, all good
Reboot to fastboot, execute "fastboot boot twrp-3.2.3-x_blu_spark_v9.91_op6.img"
Reboot to TWRP, install Magisk-v19.2.zip, reboot to OS (to verify root)
Reboot to TWRP, install ROM zip, then install twrp-3.2.3-x_blu_spark_v9.91_op6.
Select Reboot to Recovery within TWRP
And then.... black screen with blue solid light. Can't load TWRP nor can I boot into OS.
I have also tried wiping during some of these attempts and that didn't help. At one point, I had a bricked phone with no bootloader/fastboot, but saved it with the MSM tool.
Can someone please tell me what am I doing wrong? I see some ROMs (such as Lineage0S 16 with MicroG) saying to install a stock OOS twice along with TWRP, then the LOS ROM+TWRP, but I could never get beyond the first attempt at installing stock ROM+TWRP. Same thing happens.
EDIT: Resolved below.
Do you have magisk installed after reboot twrp ?

What I did is this...
After your first step which is "Starting fresh... Used MSMDownloadTool V4 to install OOS (enchilada_22_O.09_180517) then updated with local update file (OnePlus6Oxygen_22_OTA_030_all_1904032206)", I install again the "OnePlus6Oxygen_22_OTA_030_all_1904032206" to follow the step that requires flashing OOS twice.
Then I followed the steps in https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/how-to/tutorial-decrypt-flash-rom-pie-oreo-roms-t3838643, this is to decrypt my device and to be able to flash any ROM infinite times without corrupting again my device.
I suggest you use a newer MSM tool to restore to stock. Then, do local upgrade twice to install the zip on the both slots. Then proceed to unlock the bootloader.
Anytime u flash twrp u need to flash magisk too (no need to reboot if you are using the same slot before flashing magisk) , I think on the last step u forget that
Just boot to twrp and flash magisk again
I wrote that before ? 2e post
Thanks for all the tips. Finally got it working. This is nothing like the Samsung phones I'm used to.....
Here is the process I followed and I finally have a working system with the Havoc Rom, MicroG, the blu_spark kernel and magisk:
MSMDownloadTool V4 to install OOS (enchilada_22_O.09_180517) then updated with local update file (OnePlus6Oxygen_22_OTA_030_all_1904032206)
Unlock booloader
Flash TWRP
Reboot to TWRP and flash oos 9.0.5 ota zip and flash TWRP
Reboot to TWRP
Flash oos 9.0.5 ota zip and TWRP again
Reboot to TWRP
Factory reset
Flash ROM
Reboot TWRP
Flash Magisk
Flash Kernel
Reboot to TWRP
Flash microg

[Guide] Installing Blu_spark TWRP | Magisk 20.1 On Stable Oxygen OS 10

Hi there just incase someone else who had problems [like me]
who is hesitant or looking for a guide on how to install Blu_Spark TWRP and Root the device.
The guide below will work 99.9% of the time. just follow the instructions carefully
Necessary Files:
Install OnePlus 6 Driver
Install Fastboot Drivers
TWRP Image
Magisk 20.1
twrp-3.3.1-x_blu_spark_v9.107_op6
Stock boot image thanks [URL="https://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=6994095" @Akhil701[/URL]
Step 1: [dont do this if you have installed ADB and Fastboot already]
Install Oneplus 6, ADB and Fastboot Drivers from the link above
* Reboot PC after installing
Step 2:
Put
Code:
Stock Boot Image [boot.img]
twrp-3.3.1-x_blu_spark_v9.107_op6.zip and
Magisk-v20.1.zip
on your internal storage
Also Put
Code:
twrp-3.3.1-11-enchilada-Q-mauronofrio.img
on your desktop
Step 3: Reboot device in fastboot/bootloader mode
Step 4: Connect Device to PC Via USB Cable
Step 5: On your desktop Press Shift Right Click then click the [Open Command Prompt Here]
Step 6: on the CMD Windows Type
Code:
fastboot devices
Press enter and see if your device shows up.
Step 7: type in the CMD Window
Code:
fastboot flash boot twrp-3.3.1-11-enchilada-Q-mauronofrio.img
press enter then after that on your phone screen use volume up or down button to reboot to recovery
Step 8:
Once you have the TWRP Screen
flash the stock boot image [boot.img] in boot partition [DO NOT Reboot!]
now go back and flash the Blu_Spark TWRP and then reboot to recovery
Step 9: Rooting
Flash Magisk 20.1.zip then reboot to system.
Thats it! no data will be wiped as long as your bootloader is already unlocked.
thanks to
@Funk Wizard for the initial instruction on how to install twrp and root
 @eng.stk for the Blu_Spark TWRP
@mauronofrio for the initial TWRP Image
 @Akhil701 for the stock boot.img

im not sure about that also. im just hesitant to skip that step. it might break something. thats why i added that step on this guide
Thnx, this was a very easy walkthrough.
Only thing I want to say is that not everyone knows how to flash the 'boot.img' through TWRP. Maybe you can explain that in more detail.
no patched boot.img you need
1. connect your OP6 to PC
2. flash TWRP (from mauronofrio) by fastboot from PC
3. reboot from fastboot to recovery
4. in TWRP flash stock img OOS, don´t reboot
5. in TWRP flash TWRP (blu_spark 9.107)
6- reboot to TWRP to another slot
7. in TWRP flash Magisk 20.1
8. reboot to system
I have noticed this too, probably they have changed somehow the system, even fastboot boot doesn't work anymore....
I had to install magisk via boot.img patching
Functionally on OOS 10.0.1 OP6 ?
So I was unable to flash the new OTA through twrp running on my rooted OP6.
As such, I opted to install the new OTA through the "local install" option.
That worked great. Settings area all the same. Bootloader still unlocked (I double checked).
Drivers are all installed on my Windows 10 PC.
However, no matter what I attempt to flash from command prompt I always get:
FAILED (remote: unkown command)
Does anyone know of a solution yet?
I have been reinstalling drivers and rebooting my PC with no luck thus far.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Update:
Whelp now that it is upgraded to Android 10 (and was wiped of all data when I locked and then unlocked the bootloader again) it will not allow me to downgrade back to Andriod 9 through the local upgrade option and since I can not get fastboot to accept any commands I am stuck now in Andriod 10 without the ability to change anything at the moment.

i knew it while reading but thanks to the screenshot you provided you saved me from sounding "user error" once again and piss of so many who prefer to blame things and others LOL
in short, wrong command, it's fastboot flash boot <image name>
BTW and since i'm already at it, if anyone has a Mac runniing 10.15 "Catalina" and fastboot is working from terminal, i'd like to learn how he/she's done it
just came to my mind to ask here since i have to use windows 10 under parallels desktop to fastboot flash my android stuff at the moment and of course that's just an "Emergency" choice for me, everyone using both platforms will understand

Does 10.0.1 still have the ability to do screen-off gestures for music? I like 10 but on my wife's 7t, either she didn't turn them on, our it didn't have them so I'm curious if there same thing is happening with this? I also noticed on her 7t, constant data problems when's switching from WiFi to data. Sometimes data won't come back and only a reboot solves. I know it's a bug on OOS 10 on 7t but wondering if it's a device specific bug or an Android 10 bug? Anyone having op6 issues with data not coming back when switching from WiFi?

Hi guys, sorry to resurrect this thread. I did everything in the correct order using 10.0.3.0 and after step 8 (reboot after flashing blu_spark) my phone gets stuck on blu_spark splash screen without any option to boot into twrp. I am in exactly the same position here.
Followed all the steps and am now stuck on the blu_spark boot screen for the past 15 minutes

Failed root, stuck on unlocked bootloader warning message.

Hi everyone,
I have tried to get root priviledges following a guide from Droidwin.com to flash Magisk throught TWRP. At the very last step, after flashing Magisk 19.3 throught TWRP when I tried to reboot my phone, it gets stuck on the "unlocked bootloader warning message", which is supposed to disappear after a few seconds and move on to the boot animation.
It seems like I can go to the stock recovery, which shows fastboot and wipe actions. At this point, I can acces the fastboot screen, but the device is not listed using the ADB command "adb devices", nothing is find.
I'm wondering, what can I try to restore the phone ? I thank you in advance for any suggestions.
Here are some additionnal informations:
---Device---
Oneplus nord running OxygenOS 10.5.5, european version.
---What I've done to get in this situation---
Unlock bootloader using ADB
Launch an TWRP image file using ADB
"Try" to root using Magisk 19.3 zip throught TWRP
Power off from recovery (using TWRP touch interface), but the guide tells to click reboot at this step ...
Get stuck on the warning message, not having any boot animation.
Try to boot in Fastboot.
Turn the Nord Off and start it with plus minus and Power.
Boot TWRP with "Fastboot boot "TWRP File name.img" and flash magisk 20.4
Thank you @denndenn.
I'm able to launch TWRP using the ADB command "fastboot boot [twrpfile].img". But when TWRP starts, it asks me for my decryption password, I type it, brief lines of code says "unable to read system/apex" before showing the home page of TWRP. Someone knows what this means, and if that can be the cause ?
I've then tried to reflash Magisk 19.3, which lead to the same result. I couldn't figure out how load Magisk 20.4 to my internal storage in order to flash it trought recovery ... Do you know how to flash a file which is not on my phone ?

Plug your phone to your PC while in TWRP, then you can use adb to push files to your phone, for example with adb push magisk.zip /sdcard. Then, flash Magisk in TWRP.
How about flashing stock boot to see if your OPN boots to system again and then simply load Magisk zip to your internal storage and then flash via TWRP?
Thank you a lot for your suggestions !
Here is the solution in my case :
Because fastboot was working, I was able to flash stock oxygen rom, and get every working, but it needs to erase all your data.
You can find a guide on the XDA topic "[ROM][STOCK][FASTBOOT][OPN] Stock Fastboot ROMs for OnePlus Nord". The rom list have the lastest roms version (09/2020), and the process is super automated.
Have a good week-end XDA !

I was following the guide posted on these forum but, when i tried to boot from fastboot to twrp it just display endless the twrp logo. I tried to boot with an older twrp or blu spark but nothing, they all make QUALCOMM crashdump, just the latest never go past the twrp logo. Tried to search for someone with a similar problem but i couldnt find anything about my same problem. Thanks in advance.

Which android version are you? 9 10 11?
1. Unlock Bootloader (if is already unlocked, skip this step)
2. download platform tools and unpack
3. copy twrp img and installer zip to platform tools folder location
4. open cmd
5. reboot phone to bootloader
6. write in cmd fastboot erase userdata
7. then write fastboot boot twrp-file-image-name.img
8. twrp is booted, go to advanced and choos option Flash current twrp
9. if is done, then reboot to recovery
10. go to wipe option, choose format data and type yes
11. now you can flash rom using rom flashing instructions
12. remember, after done rom flashing, FLASH twrp installer
@Noob9496 hey dude thanks, i found Someone who had my same problem and I resolved too with fastboot erase userdata so I could had finally boot into twrp cause that was my main problem.
@croperas yeah that was the problem too, cause when I had finally my sweet rom, syberia os (the only android 12 available atm for op6) I tried to go back to the recovery but can't, tried reinstall everything but I couldn't so after some research couldn't find anything, but anyone who had problems with recovery almost always had problems with incompatible versions (like twrp for android 10 but had android 11) so I then realized it isn't still available a custom recovery for android 12 for op6. So after erasing everything its all fine. Thanks a lot guys really appreciated.

I have the same problem after flashing OO 11.1.2.2. I made a mistake flashing the wrong patched image to get rooted again but doing this I lost the access to twrp and now there is no recovery anymore. If I try to boot into any older version of twrp I receive a crashdump, if I try to boot to twrp 3.6.0 it gets stuck to logo. If I use the command "fastboot erase userdata" do I lose something?

Is there another way to restore twrp?
I don't use twrp anymore. Attached is Magisk patched boot for OP6 11.1.2.2 I patched from the latest payload.
fastboot flash boot_a magisk_patched-23000_OP6_11.1.2.2.img
fastboot flash boot_b magisk_patched-23000_OP6_11.1.2.2.img

Install the twrp installer directly from magisk
What I did was trying to install Lineage OS 18.1 (the latest nightly from Jan 11 2022) with Lineage OS Recovery. Following the official wiki I always got stuck in the lineage os boot animation. Never got past that. Tried to fastboot boot twrp.img but TWRP stuck on logo. I think I never tried to boot twrp with the userdata erased. I think I will try it.
Anyone trying to install the twrp, check out SHRP recovery for OP6/t. Boot the img and flash the zip from that thread. tested works with both OP6 and OP6t in OOS 11.1.2.2.
