Z3 Speakers, Battery Life & Updates - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone here can tell me please if the Z3 speakers are actually much clearer/better/louder than the newer Z3+ or Z5? (Most YouTube videos says so).
And is it true the Marshmallow (the very last/latest one) update deleted the Battery saving mode and instead replaced it with an "inferior" Doze mode which then in turn severely affected the overall battery life?

[Q] Is my battery bad?

Hi everyone,il get straight to the point.
I believe my battery is bad since I have some drain issues. I just got the phone a week ago (already used). The phone looks and works flawlessly, but the battery is so bad. I don't know if this is normal, before I had an Xperia Arc which displayed WAY better battery life. In standby (screen off) it drains like 1%~4 hours (which is ok). Now if I turn wifi on and surf the web for like 10-20 minutes about 10% is gone. With the brightness set to minimum, and best wi-fi perfomance turned off. Also it drains really strange, like from 69% it goes directly to 66% and so on. While watching videos (for example a 720p 20 min video) it drains ~10%,also with minimum brightness.
Tehnical details
-S-off,unlocked bootloader,rooted
-Running ARHD 7.2 with faux kernel - 1Ghz max cpu,-25 undervolt and no gpu oc.
-3.33.401 build
No sync,no 3g,gps,no facebook installed etc. Only mx player and music+videos on sd card.
The main drainer shows up as the screen.
So,is my battery bad,is this battery life normal for the sensation,or is it a rom/kernel/baseband problem?
Thanks in advance,cheers

Hi,
Battery age is important here, because the older it is,the worst it gets.
A new one may well sort out your problem.

Thank you for the reply, but that was not the intended answer I needed to get,let me refrase. So in your personal opinion, reading the data I posted,is this generally normal for this specific phone? (regardless of the battery age or whatsoever)

Hi,
There is no such thing as "Normal" when it comes to battery on the Sensation.
But it is generally accepted ,that when the battery gets old (1 year + ) it starts to deteriorate and behave in strange ways.
There is nothing wrong with your setup of the phone.
I merely suggest that a new battery will improve the general life of your phone.
Of course ,this greatly depends on how you use your phone, as well.
My older phone showed same symptoms. Battery went weak due to my habit of complete drain. I was bad at charging .
Ans. Is yes if battery is old like 1 or more year, it could posses same symptoms. But i will really advice you to try other ROMs like slimbean / any with less battery hunger. Hope it will help.
Regards n wishes

Is the Stamina Mode broken for the Z5?

When I first got my Z5 the first thing I did was enable the Stamina mode in order to prolong the battery power.
But since then I have been very disappointed with the heat emmission, lag in the games and the battery life.
When ever I used to play games likes Angry Birds Transformers the phone used to get very hot, lag and there was a major drain on the battery.
Last week I decided to disable Stamina mode to to check if it did improve my experiance with gaming. And I can tell you that the phone doesn't get hot (slightly warm), the game doesn't lag and the battery doesn't drain as fast before.
Also last night I charged my phone to 100% and disconnected it at approx 10:00pm. Today morning at 6:30am it had dropped to just 97% without the Stamina mode enabled.
I noticed that when I enable the Stamina mode the battery drains randomly.
One more observation is that sometimes the battery percentage gets stuck at 100% for a very long time with the Stamina mode on and then it starts dropping very quickly.
Anybody else experience the same?

Did you also enable Stamina Mode's "Extended usage" maybe? This restricts hardware performance by design. Not exactly sure what it does but if it restricts GPU performance (which it probably does) that would explain in-game lag.

No problem there. It's still on the cellular network all night. Battery drain will vary according to signal strength.

Same as all phones I've ever had...
I really can't notice any difference when using stamina mode. Also apps I've enabled "active in stamina mode I still get notification that the app is preventing stamina mode ? really fell the battery of my z3 is better. The z5, like u say, gets random battery drains.. I'm running Sonys concept software (Android 6) on my z3, and it outpreform z5 in almost everything. Hoping the z5 get better when marshmallow is released!

You can exclude apps from stamina but stamina won't work the way it is intended to work when u do that.

I've owned every xperia from z to z5. I've run stock, and custom roms, locked and unlocked bootloaders.. This is the first time is keep getting notification from stamina app that some other app I've put on "active in stamina" is preventing stamina from working. Don't see why I should be bothered with notification over and over again, when I've decided to make some apps "active"
my old Z (C6603) gave me that notification on every single firmware ever released, unless i dont exclude apps from stamina.
i dont use stamina anymore as i need constant bluetooth connection for handsfree calling and bluetooth tether internet for tomtom traffic and cams and i get same battery life as when stamina turned on.
only nice feature of stamina for me was the less notifications when idle lol

Very poor battery life

Hi,
I just changed my Xperia Z3 to Z5. The battery life is very poor compared to (1 year used) Z3 which is very strange. Pictures attached. Is it normal or should I make a complaint to the seller/producer? 20% down while using 25 minutes of screen. Stamina doesn't solve the problem. Settings similar to the Z3 ones.
Android system using lot of battery, not sure what services are you using.
Did you restore your data from z3? Do you have an old sd card full of media?
I am using wifi, bluetooth, data transfer, localization and NFC (all turned on all the time - on Z3 that didn't cause any battery problems). I don't have sd card in Z5, all apps synced while I logged in to Google account (in spite of apps setttings). This is e6633 version - dual sim with one sim card in., updated firmware to .152 (newest for this model).
This is normal. The battery life on this phone seriously sucks in comparison to previous Xperias. The power-hungry SD810 along with the smaller battery (2900mAh compared to the Z3's 3100mAh or Z2's 3200mAh), and of course, bugs in the firmware such as bluedroid_timer wakelocks are give me no hope for the great battery life Xperias are supposed to have.
Try downloading Wakelock Detector or BetterBatteryStats and see if there are any obvious wakelocks. If you use any BLE devices (smartwatch, fitness tracker, etc.), you may see the bluedroid_timer wakelock that appears to be a common problem for people, including myself.
Friend of mine also has Z5 but not dual sim version and his battery lasts for at least 2 days (moderate use, without stamina).

Bluetooth draining battery

My battery is draining fast - when I check the battery consumption, Bluetooth is at 97%
I have a Sony Smartband 2 and it's always connected, however this issue has only started recently
My Z5 is a E6603
Android 7.1.1
Build 32.4.A.0.160
I just made the account to say that it's also happening on my Z5 Premium. Always connected to my Mi Band 2. To make it better, it only started some 2 weeks ago, first month on 7.1.1 was pretty decent.
Now, I've never reached 97% Bluetooth, but 90% is normal. It reports using over 13000 mAh (out of a 3.430 mAh battery, just wow). And even though the Settings is obviously wrong, over those two weeks my average battery usage (w/ screen on) did raise by 10%/h (to ~35%/h).
Anyone managed to fix it without turning Bluetooth off? If not, back to Marshmallow, I guess...
Well, I've tried many "solutions" with no success. Have you tested your device in safe mode? In my case, battery usage shows only bluetooth even in safe mode (some crazy amounth of mAh). That would normaly mean that samo of core apps have somehow gone wrong, but flashing a few firmware versions didn't help... I realy don't have any ideas what to do.
Have someone found any solution that would like to share with us?
I've found it! Google Play Services screwed things for me, so I downgraded it and everything is back to normal. Last version that works for me is 11.5.22. Here is the link: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-play-services/google-play-services-11-5-22-release/

Question Adaptive Battery Off

So I have been using my Pixel 7 Pro without the adaptive Battery and I sware it seems like I have much better battery life and thermal performance.
I gave adaptive Battery a try for at least over a month twice and now in a week or two without.
I really thought adaptive Battery would extend battery life but it seems letting the processor have free reign within Android performs better and gives better battery life.
I will keep trying just to see when we get the March update if we ever do and see if they improved anything.
I would like to know other people's thoughts and experiences with adaptive Battery?
So far I have been using this phone and just got a s23u on a promotion and although the s23u is faster it is not as dramatic as I thought since I turned adaptive Battery off.
Adaptive battery never worked. I have two stock N10+'s, Snaps, one running on Pie the other Q.
One of the first things I learned was that Android global power management is junk when compared to hand optimized device.
All Samsung's should be optimized using settings and a Package Disabler or adb edits. Find the power hogs, the useless resource parasites (like feedback) and deal with each on a case by case basis. After you have it optimized, do not upgrade or update (including apps) unless you want to break things.
