No it's not real! Chainfires website is having issues and it shouldn't be there and if you flash that you're going to brick the phone!

Thanks for the heads up. Sucks people got to be so shady.

It also says 'should have unlocked bootloader' which no one has been able to do yet. Having the bootloader unlocked is not really a 'should' it is a 'must' have for that model Verizon.

Apparently a lot of people aren't bothering to read about it first and asking over and over if it works.. I've got way to many emails or private messages about it.

[SOLVED] Locking bootloader

I'm selling my TF300T to a second hand shop, but I want to lock the bootloader as I think they will refuse the device with the "This device is unlocked" text.
THE DEVICE WORKS FINE. I'm not trying to trick anyone into purchasing a broken device. I know there are hundreds of post like this, but none of them actually tell you how to or if it's even possible to lock the bootloader.
Thanks,
Daniel

Actualy bootloader can be relocked. Refurbished devices are those, thats why is a major problem with unlocking

Actually, is there a good factory reset tutorial on xda? I haven't found one yet and I don't really trust other ones on the internet.
I would like to:
-unroot
-flash original firmware
-flash original bootloader

[Q] I want to get my hotspot enabled, so do I need to root to do this?

Hey all, just got my pixel. Wanna stay on stock, but maybe root? I want to get my hotspot enabled, so do I need to root to do this? I'm on sprint. Any guidance! Thank you!
If you don't or can't get hotspot enable you may have to root to get it. Plenty of info on how.
FYI
Since you are on Sprint I'm going to guess you bought directly from Google. To my knowledge you can disregard any convos about updates locking you down. That only seems to affect devices bought through Verizon.

Yes sprint and bought directly from play store.
Guess I'll start with this tool eH?
forum.xda-developers.com/pixel/development/tool-skipsoft-android--google-t3482761
Problem is, I already updated via OTA to latest version. Am I screwed?
Screwed?? If you mean BL locked, no. I have the Verizon branded variant but unlocked, rooted, and flashed SU. When I saw NMF26Q was available from Google I downloaded it, installed via flash-all from fastboot, then rerooted and flashed SU again no problem.

Please look at OP install instructions in this thread.
Please look at OP install instruction in TWRP thread.
I guess you aren't on Telus in Canada or your hotspot would work. When you give no information, too hard to help. But I read this forum so even though I don't have Sprint or Verizon as my provider, I know there are many threads about turning hotspot on for unlimited data plans. Guidance: read those threads too!
Then ask for specific guidance. I don't want to reread for 25 min to find and copy and paste to spoonfeed when you should read. Much nicer to fill in a few missing spots than hold your hand not having a clue of your technical knowledge and skills.
Happy holidays.
Specific guidance: update SDK tools before you start!

so I managed to unlock and run the fastboot command to push SuperSU to my new pixel. All seems good so far...but when I restart my device I get a "your device software cant be checked for corruption" message. What is that all about? Assuming from unlocking the bootloader. Is this permanent? or can I now relock bootloader since I'm rooted?

It just means your bootloader is unlocked and isn't anything to be worried about. As long as your bootloader is unlocked it will show.

Do not relock your bootloader unless you are fully 100% stock or you run the risk of bricking your phone

That makes sense. Ya havnt used a ROM or anything, do not plan on it. So for now I'm stock. So I can relock it though, get rid of that message but still maintain SuperSU/root right?
My only goal is to get hotspot working (sprint)

If you're rooted and have done the tether hack you're no longer stock. Don't lock the bootloader unless you are COMPLETELY stock.

If so, I have not done any tether hack yet....still reading since there are multiple ways to do it. (sprint variant/google play store)

No, having SuperSU means you are no longer stock. You need all stock images to lock bootloader.
If you need a locked bootloader for Android Pay or some other apps. Install one of the customer kernels, they hide it. You still need to remove SuperSU though. From what I've seen its a bit harder to hide that for now. So you can root, make change for hotspot and remove root.
Otherwise nothing hurts to have your bootloader unlocked. It gives you more options if anything ever goes wrong. You need unlocked bootloader to even load Google factory images.
PS. I'd recommend Franco kernel as it imporoves battery life.

No you don't have to root to have hotspot enabled, it's a build-in function. Simply set it up in “wireless & networks” and you are ready to go:laugh:

Depending on his plan, he may not have that option. Many do not, hence still need the tether hack.

I wouldn't take a two year old article as necessarily accurate for newer phones, nor trustworthy no matter what. Until someone reports success with it, I'll still tell anyone who asks "no". ?

How did u unlock your bootloader on that phone because when I do it it says waiting for device in the adb on the computer and I did everything else right I think any ideas
I unlocked mine by installing fastboot drivers for the XZ2. It kept hanging up on 'waiting for device's too. But worked after installing those drivers. I can't figure out how to flash twrp though. I get error 'no such partition'.
Damn! ...

That evil misleading boot screen message for this phone, for the longest time I felt reassured that should the time come that I'd want to sell my phone that I'd be able to "lock the bootloader". I never really looked into it because of that message... Until now, when I want to actually sell it!
Obviously this confirms otherwise. It's a shame I cant just relock it and sell it on

You people are foolish even more than me. I wanna abuse you but can't.
If your device shows Bootloader status unlocked allowed 'yes'
Then goto unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com
And select device modle and enter emi number and fu+k yourself and get an unlock code.
And use experifirm to flash any regions firmware even global too.

Please keep your temperament low, Mister.
And thank you for "misguiding" people. I unlocked bootloader, downloaded a ton of roms and none would flash. Each one of them results in errors. Downloaded any custom roms available, most go into bootloop while some wont install even.
Relocked bootloader and still wont install OTAs so I am stuck with stock MM with no possibility of getting Nougat because on SO-01H Nougat update is OTA only and there is no FTF available anywhere.
Thanks again. And please dont swear on public forums.

Thats OK.
I have no idea what jeffal jetwari is, but rest assured your advice was acted upon and it made me lose too many hours trying to fix it. No ftf's for other variants work, not even the global version, no custom roms work and there is really not much of a benefit having unlocked the bootloader. So please only advise on something you have experienced personally.
Regards

Yeah, that's the one I have (which turns out to be "Verizon's model"), yet I have consistently received the message stating that it is "not eligible for bootloader unlocking." Sadly, I specifically made sure that the phone was rootable before purchasing it, but that does not appear to be the case.
Is this (XT1955-6) the same model that you have?
