SM-G955F ==> Root and T-mobile services question(s) - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Hello,
If you don't care about Samsung Pay too much are there really any downsides of rooting? Samsung Pay is not working for me anyway with T-mo in the US (w/o root currently), and Wifi Calling and VOLTE not working due the the different CSC.
I am thinking about rooting and I know that I can flash the T-Mo CSC to get WIFI calling and VOLTE working here- my question is what still does not work on T-Mo in the US that works on the 955U (The T-mo version)?
Thanks in advance!

seeing as how there is no root for USA models, you cant root...unless you have the exynos version.
---------- Post added at 04:03 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:59 AM ----------
now if you have a exynos version go for it! only reason to spend 870+ on it really lol. least for my use that is. there is no downfall and no drawbacks aside from knox tripping but who really cares aboyt that anyways? cetain roms trick the knox to 0. i refuse to buy any phone from the usa unless there is root or a jailbreak if your an ios fan..

Thanks, I rooted and I'm Not Looking Back

T-mobile Wi-fi calling and Samsung Pay on Samsung Galaxy S7 Unlocked International?

I have a Samsung Galaxy s7 Edge international version g935f from Europe, I want to not root it and be able to get tmobile wifi calling and samsung pay, I saw there were forums on changing the csc code or adding a few files into the device but none were clear on how to do it, so how can do it without putting the tmobile firmware on and junk and having to go through a lot of hassle thanks
I've been trying too figure this out since I got my phone. If you have any luck please let me know

I don't know about the Tmobile wifi calling, but I have a G930F, I use a fireware(CSC code: XSG) , installed the latest Samsung Pay and Samsung Pay Frame from Apkmirror.com. I have made a couple of purchase by Samsung Pay with my BOA debit card.
Has anyone found an answer since this thread was made?
Looking to upgrade from my S6 and I'd like to know if I can get WiFi calling on the international model.
Why not buy the unlocked SM-G930U where samsung pay, wifi calling and VoLTE all works instead of SM-G930F?

Apparently the only way to wifi call is flash the tmobile rom which allows samsung pay, however if u want samsung pay u just change the Csc but it's easier to just go ahead and flash it with the entire rom for another country, i used to use wifi calling on my old phone, however, I don't plan on doing anything with my new p now but I can say it's worth it to buy international version over the T-Mobile, if it's only wifi calling you are about then it's not worth it, samsung pay will be available to all international versions soon, you may be lucky and get a phone from a country that has it allowed (I know newegg sells the us unlocked international version for 699 and it allows samsung pay) so far it's in 5 countries. The international version is faster, almost no bloatware (samsung makes u choose to install most apps that used to make bloatware). U can use any app that has calling over wifi. Also samsung added a feature that substitutes for wifi calling called enhanced messaging that's basically I message for Android so u can text over wifi.

Check my latest reply get my answer, but in short the unlocked international (g935f and g 930f) is better

The unlocked international has a different processer (the Samsung built exynos chip which is basically made for it) and it outperforms the snapdragon counterpart in the us carrier versions. Also over a GB more of storage due to no carrier bloatware. No contract or ugly logos on the back, there are a few downsides to international unlocked but it overall is better and usually cheaper a bit

You didn't read my post .. did you? The unlocked US model is the G930U/G935U which is the non carrier version, it's not the useless carrier crap version with carrier logos and their bloat.
Only thing I agree was the exynos portion which is obviously better than the SD 820.

Oops I read it but didn't know that the u was different I thought it was a carrier, got it confused with the x which is Verizon. I'm pretty sure it has everything but the volte and wifi calling I think that's different for each carrier, I agree with u then buy either the u or f, it's just sometimes u find the f cheaper a bit like on Amazon the edge f is 655 but the u is for 700 at newegg (cheapest) or 800 at bestbuy

Samsung Pay issues

Ok had talked to samsung and I'm sure you all aware now about problems with samsung pay.
Straight to the point is that samsung pay is IMEI based app which will only work in country where it was issued. In other words it's region locked. So if we can somehow unlock the region then we might be able to use samsung pay on it.
This pissed me off so much. I bought the watch because it had samsung pay but didn't know about these region locked thing. Thought it's only for bank cards of country that support it, not about region locking
This suck big times

I have the same issue. I live the in the UK and I bought my Gear S3 Frontier in Dubai. When I opened Samsung Pay on the Gear S3 in the UK (released yesterday) I couldn't understand why it was only allowing cards from Arab Emirates banks. Anybody have any fixes for this?
---------- Post added at 04:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:09 PM ----------
Further update... it appears my previous statement is incorrect. Only certain UK banks have signed up to Samsung Pay at the moment. I have just tested a Nationwide (UK) Debit Card on my Samsung Gear S3 (purchased in Dubai) and it works. Apologies for misleading anyone.

Ah, you're lucky then as the UK IMEI's aren't getting the app.

Die-hard Windows Phone guy admits defeat

Hello All,
I have been a hard-core Windows Phone guy since the first Windows Mobile devices. I came to Windows Mobile when the Palm devices went away. I stayed loyal to Windows Phone as long as I could. The Lumia 950XL was not a bad device, but when mine started deteriorating recently, I tried the HP Elite X3 at a cost of over $1,000.
I’ll make this long story short. This device is junk. There are no apps left, and the ones that are left don’t work on this device. Windows Phone is dead, and I can’t wait on a “Surface Phone” which we may or may not ever see.
I have ruled out an apple device. I have never had an Android device, but have pretty much decided on an S8+. I’m U.S. AT&T, but I work in Africa and have a local sim card there. I need an unlocked, “real” dual-sim device. By “real”, I mean both sims must be fully functional (active) simultaneously. No switching back and forth.
So, my question is; does anyone know if Samsung will release an unlocked dual-sim S8+? If so, when? If not, can anyone recommend a high-quality, unlocked, dual-sim device?
Thank you!
Dave
PS: For Sale: Like new HP Elite X3 with two cases and all accessories. I think I also have a Sony Beta HiFi in the garage.
Isn't there an international dual-SIM, unlocked version of the S8+ available?
Just checked and found this:
https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-Factory-Unlocked-Smart/dp/B06XXR799Q
This is probably available in the Middle East and Indian markets.
Another alternative for you could be the OnePlus 3T at less than half the cost.
https://oneplus.net/ca_en/3t
Hope that helps.
April 28th samsung will release another version of the s8 I think it's unlocked but I know for sure is exynos... sorry I couldn't help out more
Thanks Rajeshr. I looked at the comments to the Amazon ad. It looks like this is not a dual-sim device, even though it states it is. I am looking at the 1+. Thanks.
Thanks also mlock420 (& a happy day-late 420). I will follow this closely. Must have an unlocked, real dual-sim. Will check the 28th. Thanks.

Yea, youll want that, youll also want to custom rom your phone too which will only be availble with the exynos varient. Its not enough to get an unlocked sim these days, for maximum compatibility between countries/networks you'll also need an unlocked bootloader, so dont get snapdragon usa model! Get international exynos!

I'm not debating the custom ROM part being better (although I hold slightly differing views from you on that point), but why would you state that you need a custom ROM for maximum compatibilities between countries/networks?

Sure, for maximum compatibility you need to be able to quickly flash the carriers csc with twrp, see xda S7 sub forum/superman rom for s7 for more info

Wouldn't an unlocked device have access to the requisite/correct CSC files for each individual region\carrier?

G955F or G955U?

the pre-order for unlocked G955U is avaliable and I'm struggling whether to get an international version of G955F or US unlocked version G955U.
I know the CPU difference and I guess it should not be noticeable in daily use, but is there any other differences that I should bear in mind? I care about the rootability and OS updates
This is pretty obvious choice if you care about root as long as you dont use verizon or sprint the choice is international for sure
Yep, Exynos unlocked Bootloader! Party on XDA!

955U is a waste of money
Easy choice if your on a GSM network

G955U is not worth it. The General consensus is that there will be no proper root or unlocked bootloader at best it will be buggy. Which carrier are you with?
Mean while the G955F is already has TWRP, Custom Roms and Root.
Thanks for the replies, I'm using AT&T, so the carrier is not a problem, and acctually I also prefer the international version.
There's a good pre-order deal for G955U and G955U also has the warranty, that's the reason why I'm thinking about G955U

B&H is a good choice for me, although I found some cheaper options from ebay, but I feel B&H is safer.
I only use Samsung pay occasionally, but that's just because the deal they provide, and acctually it's not widely acceptable in many stores.
As for red tint, I guess it should be fixed by the OS update?

I'm personally not ok with having to adjust screen and keeping it on adaptive mode to remove the tint, it should be good straight out the box but that's just me, my wife has an att one and her screen was fine right from the get go

I know this thread is old, but the U variant (snapdragon) handles game emulation a lot better than the Exynos models, if that is your sort of thing.

Exynos S8+ and ATT LG Sport Watch

Hey all,
Does anyone have this combo? I am opting for the International version of the S8+ but was wondering if things like numbersync would work with it for my LG Sport watch on ATT. It's the only deal breaker if it's a pain and won't work... and then I'd have to opt for ATT's version of the S8+. I use my LG sport heavily and rely on it when I have the phone on silent. Thanks in advanced!

Thank you! The pixel had this issue hence making it unusable to pair on ATT's network with the LG sport using numbersync (the irony, because they are both google.)

I'll add this though. I had a AT&T S8+ that I was playing with until my UK version arrived. AT&T's database didn't recognize the IMEI of my UK phone as LTE-capable. The fix was AT&T added my returned S8's IMEI to my UK phone in their system. It may or may not have anything to do with me accessing NumberSync.

KBC,
Did you get your international S8+ working with numbersync? I'm trying to get numbersync working on my international S8 and galaxy watch, and I fail to receive the "AT&T Features" text message to the watch that apparently enables / begins the numbersync process.
If you could let me know, it'd be a big help.
Thx

Ok -- this appears to be relevant:
TLDR, this 2018 post asserts that you need AT&T's HD voice in order for numbersync to work, which if I understand properly (I'm workiong on about 60% confidence here), disqualifies unlocked phones from working, at least my Exynos S8 (G950-F).

Ok-- maybe posting research afterwards is almost as good as searching first:
https://forums.att.com/conversation...f606fb202b?commentId=5defe5d4bad5f2f60657c90f
It appears fairly conclusive that you've gotta have an AT&T branded phone. (i.e. not an Exynos S8-- darn).
https://forums.att.com/conversation...f606fb202b?commentId=5defe5d4bad5f2f60657c90f
Let me know if anyone else wants to triple confirm or chime-in. I love my rooted Exynos S8 running Oreo, but this (numbersync) may be what gets me off it. Fortunately I bought a rooted snapdragon S8+ as backup (I probably couldn't handle rooting a US one myself).
