Sm-G955F and Samsung Pay in the US - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Has anyone got this working, if so how? I have the international version with a Panama CSC so I know that's a problem. Can we flash a different CSC and get this working? I am not rooted so I was just curious if this could be done...

Same question here

I flashed this rom and it is working https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s8/SM-G955F/EVR/
P.D. I live in the U.S. so im with t mobile.

For unbranded, I flashed a rom with XSA CSC (Australia) on my FD and it works too. Places tab is metric though.

BTU (UK) works with the UK version of Samsung Pay. It supports membership cards but doesn't support rewards and deals. It does support the latter but they are all for UK merchants. It also supports MST in the U.S. even though it doesn't in the UK.

Just a heads up. Gear S3 Samsung Pay will not work if your phone is rooted(Safety Net check, it didn't work for me after a recent update). There are reports of success with Magisk, but YMMV.

i can confirm it works with root. just download an old version of gear samsung pay (1.2 something i believe) and add the card. if you update the app it will still keep the cards.

More details here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3585698. You need to make sure that Samsung Pay doesn't update out of the box (which I failed to do). One person in the thread reported success after updating to recent versions though. Best of luck.

Yes Samsung Pay still works with Magisk but I would be interested to know if the gear S3 works with your phone when you get it.

Wait, if I remember right Samsung pay is downloaded through the gear app when you load it for the S3, so how do you get an old version of the APK for that?

Happy to report- following the instructions on this thread worked like a charm for the S3 classic that I received today for my rooted s8+ (SM-G955F). I have my cc setup and working. I have seen differing reports on this - can you update the Gear app on the phone or will that disable SPAY on the watch? At this point, i have not updated the app or SPAY for Gear, but that will be annoying long term. SO what is the verdict?
thanks,

Do you really need to root the phone in order to flash a stock rom from SamMobile?

The 2 apps works together so it's not really clear how updating one but not the other will work. Per my experience: updating the phone app beyond 1.2 got me the root check and updating the watch app without updating the phone app gives me an updating dialog in the phone app that I can't bypass. So at this point, I would recommend not updating either apps until a workaround is confirmed. There was one person reporting success in the thread but they are running it on Nexus 6.

Gear S3 Samsung Pay will work on any non-rooted stock rom (even if your phone is not in a supporting region CSC). It is separated from the phone Samsung Pay app. The region for the gear s3 has to do with the watch only and nothing to do with phone CSC. For example, I have an Australia firmware phone but my S3 has US region Samsung Pay because I bought the US version of the watch.

Trim support and low battery consuming location track? I don't really see any difference between GS4 TW and Note3 TW.
Hopefully we can get out of the MF3 rut with the new 4.3 update

How do those of us rooted on ATT MF3 stock 4.2.2 get the official ATT 4.3 update next month ? We can't flash ROM's like the rest of the world can Well we have Safestrap, but that's just a bandaid, and can't do 4.3 ROM's anyways. I am rooted on stock. How would I get the 4.3 update next month ?
I am hoping with the official ATT 4.3 update, maybe come with new firmware, it may allow us to get true recovery ? Or am I just dreaming ?

I'd say you were dreaming.
As far as getting the update goes, just remove safestrap and unroot. A search should help you find out how. Good luck.
Well will the official ATT 4.3 update, maybe help Safestrap, to finally allow 4.3 ROM's to work ?
Just blows that ATT is doing this crap. I updated my Wife and I phones, both got brand new S4's for $99 ea. plus credit by exchanging in our old HTC phones, so at the end of the day 2 brand new S4's on contract only cost us $50 out the door total.
Just blows they come with MF3 by default.

I hear ya. I got my S4 in September and of course it was pre-loaded with MF3. I'm contemplating giving it to my wife as an upgrade to her Skyrocket and get the Nexus 5. I probably should have waited for it looking back. I honestly didn't think the bootloader would be nearly impossible to unlock.

Is there any hope in the future of unlocking our phones ? Will a future firmware update have an exploit to be found, and allow Recovery ? Or are S4's with MF3 permanently locked down tight forever ?
Thing is I do like this S4 a lot. I am just rooted only on stock 4.2.2, to remove the bloat and crap apps, plus to install Greenify, Droidwall, AdAway, etc...phone is fast with great battery life now, and good size and looks great in my Neo Hybrid case.
Just wish we could freely ROM this phone with CWM Recovery, like the good old days of earlier Samsung phones.

As long as you didn't freeze the att update in the app manager you will receive the update no matter rooted or not. Your just dreaming for right now until the official release is out it'll take several months before someone finds and exploit.

From my experience with the MF3 update, if you have root and have modified your system it will fail a file check and won't update immediately.
For MF3 users with Safestrap and root, this will probably end up being just as locked as MF3 was if not more. If anyone really wants to take the OTA then Safestrap could be used to flash the neutered MF3 zip to restore system to original and keep data, and then run the update.
If by chance root is found for MJ6 and Safestrap is updated to be compatible, we'd then be stuck on TW 4.3 ROMS instead of TW 4.2.2. That's the only option to run any 4.3 until a kexec exploit is found for Safestrap, and I don't know how hard that is to do, much less to load an AOSP kernel over TW, and much much less to load any 4.3 kernel over a 4.2.2 one.
Right now the best bet for MF3 users is to stay on MF3 and wait for either a neutered update that would work in the stock slot, so we could move between MF3 and MJ6 and run either at our discretion (this requires root to be found, Safestrap to be updated, and hope that the current bootloader will take it just fine) or wait for kexec or something else to free us.
I know way off topic, but I hope when ATT releases the S5 early Spring next year, it doesn't ship with a MF3 style locked down system ?
When ATT first released the S4, this year, how easy and fast was root and recovery working ?
And how long has MF3 been out ?
I just got my S4 ten days ago, might as well try and check at Best Buy if they have the 'MDL' version still in stock ?

Not sure about easy auto Root (not much need for it on my Sheild just yet). Kernel was built August 1st so they may have patched the CVE-2014-3153 futex vulnerability (Towelroot), but you could always unlock your bootloader and root manually.
On a side note the system feels a lot smoother and performing better, Robert Broglia's emulators for me seem to run better with little/no lag (looks like they may have fixed the cpufreq governor).
Yeah maybe i'm being a complete idiot or i'm just too nooby with Android, but mine doesnt seem to install? I'm rooted on the previously latest firmware, tried flashing the update but it reboots and says its available to update again... oh well, i dont think i really need it at the moment anyway. Probably only if i end up buying a Shield controller, which i might not anyway.

But if the SHIELD Tablet got an update on July 29, and TowelRoot still works, you think maybe there's a possibility the root method still works? I'm still waiting to see if anyone has tried it. I got a good list of reasons to not give up on root.

This. At least until the heat, less battery life, gyro and rogue wifi are explained.
I want to update since still on 4.22, but was waiting on the Broglia emus to be smooth again.
Now it seems one step forward and about five back.
Towelroot (v3) not working after updating to 82 (phone is not supported)

Stick to update 77 just to be on the safe side guys. Update 82 has bad bugs in it that still need sorting out.

Caveat: New owner here.
When I first fired up the tablet, I got the Android 4.4.2 system update message. Then about 80% along with that download, I got the message about this update. Since the tablet restarted when I upgraded to 4.4.2, the Shield Tablet notification hasn't displayed since.
I'm not sure whether the two are separate, or connected, or whether the system update happens first then the Shield update.
Coming from Nexus, I assume the 4.4.2 update is the primary update, then the "Shield Software Update" is the vendor-specific patch that Nvidia release outside the major system update.
Is my understanding correct?

You'd be better off opening up a question about that. This is for the SHIELD Portable (not the SHIELD Tablet, but unfortunately, they have not yet made a separate forum for the SHIELD Tablet, so we must mark our posts with [SHIELD Portable] or [SHIELD Tablet] depending on which you own.)
TOWELROOT still works after I updated the device tonight.. It says it is the latest firmware update as of 25-Aug-2014.
NOTE : Sorry, I still thought this is on a SHIELD TABLET forum.. I am using NVIDIA SHIELD TABLET
So I'm on Android 4.3 and I'm rooted with an unlocked boot loader. I keep seeing this update notification in the menu. This would break root but would it also erase everything or can it keep app data since it's an OTA? Thanks.
just fyi: got the device, updated it to the 82 ota, tried shield-root - worked like a charm on the first try

Root and unlocked bootloader update

Exploit is out, warning it will trip knox and you will lose samsung pay forever. My opinion, wait to see if this method can unlock the bootloader, if it can unlocked bootloader is better than samsung pay
Also the developer said tomorrow he is releasing more information on exploits tomorrow, and basically confirmed the bootloader can be unlocked using this method but it requires a certain kernel. So do not upgrade to the latest firmware just in case the kernel was updated!!!!!!

PD2 is the latest but don't worry. You can easily flash back with the older firmware here. Verizon hasn't incremented the bootloader as of yet so to be safe just block system update with Package Disabler Pro or the Debloat tool.

Root is coming, there already a zip b in the s7 edge Sprint section that grants everything needed for root. I've already pulled my keys for my s7 edge Verizon. Tomorrow is supposed to be the big day where the developer shows us how to unlock the bootloader using certain exploits

With the debloat tool, which package(s) would I have to block to stop update prompts?

Downloading the S7 Edge Android 7 Nougat Beta Right Now (HOW TO)

I am currently downloading the Nougat Beta Update for my S7 Edge and wanted to let others know how to do it.
1. I registered through the Samsung Beta programs a few days ago from the Samsung App Store
2. I did a manual check for updates through the About section in the settings.
Downloading update as we speak.

You need to go to the Samsung App Store ans search for Beta and register.
There is no link because it is done through the over the air section under about/manual update in your phone settings menu.

Registration is over now right? I tried before 3 days but it said sorry maximum number of registration reached. so I missed the train. but I did flashed it's leaked firmware via odin then and due to some problem I'm on stock MM and hopefully will stick to it unless Nougat gets Finally official.

Actually you got it via OTA and mine was leaked version so might be a little difference could be I there. And also I wouldn't be getting the next update via OTA cause it wasn't from samsung source. On the other hand somehow after flashing the Nougat my sim card got killed. I don't know how. then I replaced the sim & now I'm afraid to loose my knox warranty tripped. also faced some minor bugs- like a notification never closing from the status bar and some more. that's why I came back to MM. by the way I'm not from UK neither from BTU csc. I'm actually XSG csc. Bangladesh.
