I just received the request to update.
Does anybody know what it is about? Did you try it yet?
I looked here and it is not there: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-30276
This is a 47Mb patch, did anybody see it before?
yeah, I got update last night.. its G930TUVS4BQE1 now. I am on ATT Carrier and using TMO rom currently cuz i hate ATT rom.... update size was 45ish MB. i was not pay attention on it.
Got the update, it mainly updates security patch level to the May 2017 edition. I have not seen or noticed any other change so far.
I have noticed a huge increase in battery life.
Same daily usage. Off the charger for 10 hours 21 minutes. exactly 2 hours SOT. 55% battery remaining.
Before the update, I would be down to 30% already!!!.
anybody else try this update how battery life for the rest of you
I think I'm doing better on battery life too. No hard numbers but just seems better.
Does anyone know where to get the firmware for this version? Somehow my phone became rooted and I'd like to reset it to stock. I have Odin but I'm having issues getting the blasted firmware. Thanks

I have read on various forums that the latest software update has been causing problematic battery drain on the M8 and more often the Verizon version. I briefly had one about a month ago but had to return it due to some contract issues. Now I am looking to get another as I really liked it. I did however notice that the battery did drain pretty fast when I had mine. It had the latest 4.4.2 software on it. If I root it, can I install an older ROM and have the great battery life return? Are there any tips on what was causing the issue? I see AT&T actually pulled the Kitkat update due to battery issues several months ago.
Thanks for the info,
Rob
No battery drain on my device. I'm on all stock Verizon and I did a factory reset after the 4.4.4 update. Battery life is excellent and I get through a 24 hr work shift with about 20 percent battery left, about 3 hrs SOT. I'm sure you can get an older ROM version by asking in the thread of the ROM you choose if it isn't available in the OP. Many fine folks here keep old copies. Good luck buddy!

Thanks I appreciate the reply.
The oldest ROM it originally came with is 4.4.2 so I don't know how much that would help your case. Maybe the newest 4.4.4 can help if you still have problems on 4.4.2 on your new phone (if it isn't 4.4.4 already)
I've had the phone since release date and never had a battery drain issue. The battery life was great at launch and has gotten a bit better with firmware releases.
Before I had the M8 I had a Gnex. On that Gnex android 4.4.4 would cause the phone to get very warm and increased battery drain. It doesn't surprise me that it does it on the M8 as well.
I didn't see any battery drain on 4.4.2, 4.4.3, or 4.4.4.
Pfft with all the ROMs out and kernels to help who needs battery drain.
HTC One M8
After the update, my battery life dropped by an honest 50%.
I dont use my phone much and used to get 6 days on a charge, now I only get 3.
I realize that's more than most and I should not complain, but still.
I also had to reset my phone due to problems with pictures in my previously recieved texts not opening.
The reset obviously did not help my battery problem.

6 days per charge? Haha what?

It's true, I'm older & only use a phone to make calls, & a few texts.
No social media stuff or anything like that, all Forum stuff is done on a tablet or computer.
Hey guys, is there an app that can tell me what is draining my battery so quickly? My phone is not lasting very long anymore.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809 download the latest
thank you
Use Gsam. Let it run for a day or two.
I can pretty much guarantee what the problem is. After the last system update, the Android OS and Kernel are using a TON of battery, as reported by gsam. Before the update, the screen was my biggest drain, and I could easily go 16 hours with heavy usage. Now I can sometimes barely go 5 hours. I've posted about it here, but haven't had any luck:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/htc-one-m8/467004-poor-battery-life-kernel-os-sucking-battery.html
I've heard there will be another system update shortly after the new year. I'm going to wait and see it that fixes it, if not, my phone is going to verizon for a replacement.

What will the replacement do? Will it not be on 4.4.4?
Also, I always use gsam, but the android kernel and os are usually about 10%+-.
Mine went from lasting 15-18 hours to less than 10. And that's with babying it after the update because I was monitoring battery life
Yep, mine is messed up also. I have to charge it 2 times a day now where before 1 would give me plenty.
Yes, I have experienced this as well.
Its not just a Verizon thing my friend. I have read many people from different carriers complaining about that. I am with tmobile and it is really bad. Soon as I find the thread that has the way to get back to kitkat (and the time) its goodbye lollipop. Smh.
Agreed, my battery life is now atrocious. Even after a factory reset and adding apps one by one. If I get 6 hours I'm lucky.
I did a battery pull and cleared the cache. It seems to have fixed it

Same problem here. I used to get close to 20 hours. Now I get 10-13 if I'm lucky. I have 2 batteries that I use now just to get a full 24 hours from the phone. I did a factory reset and cleared the cache and nothing changed. Maybe it will be fixed in the 5.1 update whenever that comes.
bumpy
N915G here, rooted my phone, tweaked, tried diff ROM but still the worst bat life i had since my S3,Note2,Note3. Now downgraded to kitkat so far so good been using it just for 12hrs but i definitely can feel improvement specially in standby mode. I never thought of downgrading to Kitkat but now im loving it!

any updated resolution on this? my battery life is strange, not only do i lose power quickly, but once i'm under 40%, the phone randomly will shut itself off as if it reached 0%. i pull the battery and the SIM card, replace after 30 seconds, and then i get back to 19%. i ordered a new battery from Samsung directly (if you have any tips on cheaper batteries that still have NFC, please share) so i am going to see if that is the issue, but if not, then i will just switch back to my Note 4. i hate the lack of development for this phone, it seemed to be skipped over completely and then a straight shot to the S6/Note5.
Has anyone been able to remedy battery drain after March and June OTA updates? Any method to revert back to earlier firmware, I tried and got slapped with "binary 10 > 8 error." Has anyone had success with FDR? Safemode has no effect so far.
Admittedly I was a sleep at the wheel with this issue I allowed OTA update to G90UUESACSF1. After update, my battery life is about half. Can watch it drop while browsing. Been up for about an hour now and down 13% from a full charge under minor use. To boot, all of the progs listed "battery use" don't account for 30% of total use so far. Ahhh, good ole planned obsolescence.
Thanks in advance.

The only thing I could think of is re seating the battery.
But you would have to take apart the phone to do that

I repair these S7's daily, and it's not necessarily the firmware update but the age of the battery causing the quicker drain. Since they are about 4 years old now, the chemicals inside the cells has started to deteriorate, therefore the only solution is to replace it with a good quality battery (not a cheap $5 Ebay bootleg ones, but a $20 original!)
February has arrived and we are still waiting.
When can we expect to receive the Android 12 OneUI 4 update ?

Well... I really enjoy the protect battery feature because i can charge my phone overnight without worrying about damaging the battery. Also , i experienced a bit better battery life .. even if im starting my day with 85%. The extra 4gb vram makes a difference for me as the phone feels snappier. For the rest , no issues at all!
A bit too early for me to review it but it seems just prettier in respect to design, i have 6gb ram and noticed a little more ram usage ( around 500 mb more ) and in the following days i will be able to notice battery usage thanks to "Ampere" app too. A shame that "protect battery" feature can only set limit to 85 instead of giving users choice
So these are some little things i noticed so far.
- battery lowest drain dropped to 50mA from ~70mA, still not perfect but an improvement.
-ui colors are not set automatically and there is no option to do it but to change it manually, this is an android12 related feature and hope it will improve in the future.
-clock widget changes theme without considering your theme setting, bad for aesthetics.
-Not a good text color management on homescreen, using light or dark wallpapers can still lead to notification bar text being unreadable.
-when you open an app and its logo appears for fractions of second background is white even when in dark mode.

Long overdue. But that's the one thing I really miss without root (battery limiter).
I wish they gave us more options than just 85%. Running a few tests, this can use roughly 35-40% of one cycle if left plugged in all day. That's compared to pre-protect feature where leaving the phone plugged in 3-4 hours (and therefore charging 100% for a few hours) would hit about 90% of one cycle.
However, if you could limit the charge to 55-60% (because I'm usually not away from a charging source for more than a few hours), then the charge cycle would be even further limited to only 10-15% per day. In other words, maybe more than 2X extended battery life as the current 85% option will yield.
Not sure what's up with mine. Not only do I not have the Android 12 update, mine is still on July 1 2021 patch. Phone says it's up to date. I have contacted Samsung 3 times and been told every time that my inqiriy is elevated but they never get back to me! Any suggestions?

That's really strange since months have passed and i got a security patch udpate after android 12. There should be a way to manually install the firmware if i recall correcty, have you tried?

No I haven't tried to sideload an update. It's my wife's phone so I don't want to mess with it cuz if I brick it I'd be sleeping alone. But I shouldn't have to sideload anyway, it should be receiving updates and it's not and Samsung has been less than helpful.
The other reason is that I no longer have a pc, only a chromebook, and running adb from a chromebook is a pain.
