Wireless headphones for the Desire.

I want a wireless headphone or earphone for the Desire, that I can use for music, radio, answering calls, when I'm at the Gym.
What are the best recommendations. Thanks.

Do you mind me asking what the battery drain on your Desire/phone is like whilst using Bluetooth and listening to music?

Thank you, I've been looking into Bluetooth headphones of all sorts and no one ever mentions what the battery life of the phone is like whilst using them.

That looks like a great headset and from Handtec its not that pricey. However the Motorola S9 is very expensive but also sweatproof. cant decide

why should u want it sweatproof? I've got in ear plugs so they don't suffer from sweat atleast that is my experience with in earp plugs.

i got the jabra street last week.. it comes with own headphones but they are rubbish.. thankfully you can use your own.. today will be my first day in the gym with it so will let you know how i get on

I might get the Motorola S9 because it looks good too.

About the gym, I work out alot to but still no problems with the in ear plugs but now back to the test that I would preform.
Ok now starting the test @ 11.14 and my phone is @ 98% and locked the phone so it's just using bluetooth and playing music I've got some widgets and auto updates that update every 3 hours so they won't have that much influense also 3g is turned off when I lock my phone so u know .
So for the overview(End will be added when I'm done with testing)

Of all the reviews i have seen people love them. There is even some Wrestler guy reviewing them on Youtube of how he loves them. I have mine on order and should receive them in a week or so.

I have a S9 and works very well in sweat situation, doesnt' fall, the quality is good enough for a gym/biking situation. However if you have small ear cavity (dont know the specific name for them) may be sore after some minutes but with time you the region get less sensitive.
One more thing, it's better to leave the phone in a almost static position, ie in a armband, on the treadmill because if you put in your pocket while running the constant moving makes the sound come and go. It's seems that occurs with most of bluetooth headsets.

That looks like a nice one I will look for that.
I currently have one surround headphones from Plantronics 777 and Im very happy with it. The mic is great quality too.

treadmills or cycling machines have a place to put your stuff like your phone, MP3 player etc, in front of you

Radio
You wont be able to listen to radio with any wireless headphone headset, because earphones cable works as an antenna for radio reception.

Not true the Sony Erricons MW-600 has a builtin FM radio

I have the backbeat 903's. I love them, sound quality is good, Mic is clear even with background noise. You can still hear what is going on around you, which saves getting run over when crossing roads. You have to store them carefully though. Mine are in for a warranty repair right now, left speaker stopped working but I used to just keep them in my pocket so probably my fault. Controls work and battery life is good. People do mock the look of them but who cares?

I hate bluetooth with a passion. I am a earbud/headset guy.
I noticed when I first got my Skyrocket that there was always a background hiss, like the sound you get out of speakers when it is not shielded good enough.
Any other owners try this? Use the stock headset or iphone earbuds then simply launch an App enough to get it to play a simple sound... do you here a slight hiss for a few seconds after the sound plays?
Also try calling someone using the headset and listen for background noise. I just got a replacement Skyrocket in and it is making the same noise. If I use the speakerphone or Bluetooth it is fine.
My last phone the I had was an Infuse. It is still in my possession and I retested. The hiss is there but it is so quiet I almost could not hear it.
Please let me know if you notice this, it is driving me crazy!

I posted about this shortly after release. Mine does it VERY noticeably, only in the car, only while charging. All 5 skyrockets have done it.

I can hear it regardless of what the phone is doing. Charging doesn't seem to make a difference as far as I can tell.
Thanks for the feedback in any case. I really... really like the phone other than that.

Its much worse when charging. Search YouTube for "skyrocket feedback'
Oddly enough I can't get it to do it under other scenarios

If you are within your 30 days buyers remorse or have insurance, get it switched out. I believe its a defective issue. I had that happen on my white SGS2SR and I returned it for a new one in box and it no longer has that issue.

I called ATT up and complained. They sent me another skyrocket that is brand new in the box. It also makes the same noise.
I am more curious to hear if anyone else can hear the noise as I have described it.

Skyrocket Hiss
I'm right there with you. Never noticed it until today because thinking back, I haven't used the headphones yet. I was trying to listen to Pandora and noticed a hiss and crackle. It's gotta be interference because i notice it picks up a little when the screen is on. But It happens whenever there's sound that has or is playing. I notice it during quiet parts of videos or songs and when you unlock the phone it hisses for a second (with the unlock sound) and then shuts down until you go to play anything with audio. I can't handle it. Is this on all skyrockets for certain? Software fix? I'm not paying as much as I did for this to be a problem. I know it sounds picky but it really does bother me during use.

I am not sure myself. I can tell you that I had 3 brand new skyrockets lined up and they all made the exact same noises. I ended up selling the one I did not returnes and got a open box Galaxy Nexus from Expansys. I has it's own issues (like the screen) but the audio jack has no problems.

if you have root try installing voodoo control it helps with audio playback

Man that's a bummer. I'm not sure I can give up LTE now that I've had a taste. I'm going in this weekend to the store and will test every phone they have to see if it's maybe a specific batch problem. I have a couple more weeks of my 30 day comfort zone. This phone is just perfect for me apart from that one flaw. Unfortunately I do try to use it for music so I'm having trouble getting over the fact. How do you like the nexus? I was holding out for that when my captivate fell apart.

The noise while charging is normally not a phone issue and will likely happen with a lot of devices. It's the grounding issue with the CAR chargers and the Headphone Aux in.
I been in Car audio for many many years and have competed in IASCA SQ comps. One of the biggest offenses is 'alternator whine'. Isolating any alternator whine from the sound system was always the factor of proper grounding and wiring. If you run your amp power cable, RCA signal cables and speaker cables to where they crossed the powers cable, you're bound to get the noise.
It all depends on the car, the wiring, the grounding etc etc.
My Galaxy s I has an EXCELLENT audio codec/dac and on it's own is a great player. But in my car as soon as I plug in power and use aux, it's unbearable.
Even though the Skyrocket suffers from poor audio on it's own, the whine while plugged into a car's 12v socket is not Skyrockets fault.
Pull your car into your drive way and use a 120v regular charger and then plug the aux into the car, turn on the car.... you won't hear the whine/noise.

All very good info....but out of our 6 android devices and two iPhones....the skyrockets are the only two that do it.

The issues I have had are not while charging, only when using headphones.

I realllly like the Nexus. ICS is great for the most part and it is nice to be able to flash roms that are straight from google.
Also the phone feels a bit more solid and a little heavier (GSM version) than the Skyrocket in a good way. I do have the grey screen issues at low light levels that other people complain about but at >40% brightness it is pretty much a non issue.

Mine does it too, but it doesn't particularly bother me. I think it might even be a software issue, as the hiss cuts out a few seconds after a sound plays.

Isn't that the strangest part!? I think I could get over the fuzz when music is playing, just gotta turn the volume up a bit. But the killer for me was when I tried using the headset during a phone call and it was a lot more noticeable then I dunno I'm just still so in love with everything else about the phone that I've been reluctant to take it back.
I have this hope where maybe we all got the same batch and they're all a bit defective. I'm waiting until as close to my 30 day mark as possible to ask for another one and then we'll see. If it's still a problem then I think I'll just make due and hope it is a software problem.

Okay so new solution! Wait for the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket HD and see if IT has an audio hiss lol. I mean seriously how many models are they gonna push out before it's over. I'd be so mad if i got the original GSII.

Terrible Bluetooth Range

I'm curious if anyone else is having this issue or can confirm this is happening on their phone.
I'm pairing my phone up to a bluetooth car stereo (4 different ones) and a couple bluetooth sound docks, and the result is the same no matter what.
If I walk more than a couple feed away the music cuts in and out. it completely disconnects at around 12 feet.
I have never seen bluetooth range this poor, even on my cheepo chinese bluetooth adapter a coulpe years ago.
I called HTC and their only options were telling me to factory reset my phone.

I believe it is by design as part of HTC's "aggressive" power management...I have tried to find a way to increase the Bluetooth power but have not been successful...I have to be no more than 2 feet or so for mine to work..I'm sure there is a way to increase bt power but I'm not sure how...I think I remember seeing this in another thread..

I'm assuming the reason the range is so bad is because the phone is running in low power mode, a feature of bluetooth 4.0.

Yeah, BT 4.0's main attraction is the low power usage. You can't have both great range (the old BT devices) and great battery life. Given a choice, I'd prefer great battery life.

Bluetooth 4.0 is multiple standards of bluetooth plus a low power version.
It should have better range than bluetooth 2.0, but with the added ability of a low range/low power mode.

The audio will cut in and out even if the phone is just in my pocket and I am using a bluetooth headset (Motorola Elite Sliver). If I cant find a way to fix this or it doesn't work with a different headset I am not gonna be able to keep this phone. I really like the device but the non-existent multitasking and the terrible bluetooth performance is pushing me away. When I work I use my bluetooth all day for either customer calls or just to listen to music/radio on down time and I can't deal with this for too much longer. I'd hate to go back to my iPhone but I may have to unfortunately..

I'm also out of my return policy on this phone now, and they have no other good phones.
Hopefully htc comes out with a fix for this soon.
I've called them 3 times now and havn't gotten a single good answer to why its so bad.
Also emailed them and still no response.

I have also noticed poor range. Much less range when streaming Bluetooth audio to my LG soundbar compared to my iPad and buddies iPhone.

hey guys, i just bought a One X and im having similar issues. there should be no excuses to have bluetooth cutting out like this on a new phone. My old Desire HD did it and i just thought it was because i had dropped it, but looks like its a HTC thing!

I have no problem at all anywhere in my car, I listen music and radio an average 40 mins a day (while comute). I have a bluelogic bt that came built-in the car.
I also haveno problems and no cutoffs on my stereo bt headphones and I often leave my phone on the table while I workout (true, under 10 feet away). If that matters, I'm on 2.20 stock.

i never used bluetooth with my ONE S before now. But I have moved it in to take over my business phone needs and replace my Sensation 4g. It is definately worse range. And if it it 10-15 ft away on the hood of my truck and i turn my headset away from the phone, the signal from my phone can't carry through my head. The sensation had no problems. The newer plantronics headsets are worse than the older ones as well. And putting the phone in my work belt on the opposite side from the earpiece is really bad. I don't know what to do. Might be time to fix my sensation and move back to an old headset.

Review: LG HBS 730 bluetooth headset

This is my review of the LG HBS 730 headset with the Nexus 4 Android 4.2.2
Overall, I would rate this device a 9/10 and suggest anyone with a Nexus 4 or Nexus 7 buy it if they're looking for a stereo headset.
My previous headset: Motorokr S9HD
Great headset, loved it, and sturdy. One problem... If you run long distances (and sweat a lot) it dies on you. When i run, I run anywhere between 5km to 13km, and the sweating from the 13km runs pretty much kill the S9 within 2 months. I know, I had it replaced 3 times
Pros:
- Good distance with Nexus 4. There have been times that I walk 10 feet away from my phone without a single issue with audio quality
- Very good battery life. Charges very quickly and takes a while to run out. I've used it for 8hrs and the device still only reports "medium"
- Buttons: All work as expected. I can raise and lower the volume, skip tracks, etc. without a problem. I've tried it on the default music app for the Nexus 4, doubletwist, and pandora. They all work perfectly
- Connection: Always connects. I simply turn on my N4 and my HBS730 and 10/10 it always connects
- Multitasking: While using the device, I also using various apps, like JeFit, GMAIL. whatsapp, etc. and it doesn't stutter.
Cons:
-When running fast, 12km/hr, the device bounces and I question if it'll come off. It hasn't, but I do question it.
- Magnets, they're weak. The ear pieces constantly come off. If you lay them down, they'll stay on, but put them in a backpack and they ear pieces will come off the magnets. Not a big deal.
Apt-X, I can confirm that the Nexus 4 does NOT include Apt-X.
Overall, if you're into cardio excersices or exercise long distances, you'll really appreciate this headset. I've also used this devices with my Nexus 7. I use it mostly for reading and listening to music. The nexus is never more than 3 feet away from the device. It always works perfectly.

I've had this headset for a month now. I'm coming from the LG HBS-700. I've noticed that the audio doesn't sound too good if the volume is all the way up on the Nexus 4. It sounds much better if you control the volume from the headset. I never had this issue with the 700's. I think it's due to the lack of apt-X.

How was HBS-700 on Nexus 4 for you? I'm planning to purchase, but the reviews on HBS-730 aren't as positive as for HBS-700.

I had the HBS-700 for about a year, loved it, used it almost every day at work, anywhere from 1-6 hours per day. Used it for working out. I didn't baby it one bit, and it was still going strong when I lost it. This was when I had a Galaxy Nexus.
I suffered for about a month before I finally broke down and replaced with the HBS-730 in early January. I can report that I don't have many connectivity issues as reported on the Amazon reviews, so perhaps the Nexus 4 just works better than some phones. I can still get nearly 30 feet away before it starts to break up... usually. The odd thing is that the sound will occasionally break up while I'm out for a run or other times when the phone is less than a body length away. This did happen on occassion with the HBS-700 and Galaxy Nexus, but seems to be slightly more with the 730. Not apples to apples, but I can say that it isn't enough to bother me, and the distortion only lasts a second or so before going back to normal. I think iPhones have some serious issues with this set but so far my Nexus 4 is all good.
Last week, my boss found my old HBS-700 behind a filing cabinet. How it got there I have no idea. I tested it for a night before selling it to another coworker, and did find that the 730 has better sound quality (or I should say, a sound quality that I prefer). As someone else mentioned, the bass will sometimes distort at high volumes, but you can turn off the bass boost which is on by default. There are three EQ settings (Bass boost/ Normal/ Treble Boost). Default is Bass boost. To change, press both + and - volume buttons and you'll hear a beep to confirm (first beep = Normal, 2nd = Treble, 3rd brings you back to Bass Boost...) You have to do this each time you turn on the headset, but I find the default bass boost is fine for most songs and will only change the EQ if I am getting distortion. (edit: to clarify, only the 730 has the EQ feature, the 700 only has one setting but I did not have any bass distortion issues)
I've had both models yanked off my neck by just the thin earbud cord several times, hard enough to the point I was sure something would break. I've sweated all over them. I've taken them to the beach. The only issue I have ever had was losing one of the small plastic clips that let you adjust the amount of cord between the set and the earbud on my set of 700's, and those aren't really even needed. Oh yeah, and even after a year of good use, I don't think I ever managed to use a fully charged battery in a single day with my 700's. Like the OP said, the battery on these things is great.
I purchased the 700's for my sister and for her boyfriend last year for Christmas. They are converts now as well.
So yeah, I love both models, recommend them both, but after listening to both side by side, I would have to recommend the 730 for the higher sound quality. Buy from Amazon so you can return if you have issues with the connection, but I think you will likely be pleased either way.
OH YEAH!! HOW DID YOU FORGET TO MENTION THE VIBRATION?! The neckpiece vibrates on incoming calls, so even if you have the earbuds stored in the headset and phone on silent you get your notifications. So simple, but so useful.

Worked great until it broke! Lasted me a little over a year, but I really abused it! Went on many, many sweaty runs with it, and wore it to the gym 4-5 times a week. I also wore it to school everyday. Money well spent.

Woah! Thank you so much! I did not know that! I was wondering why bass would sound distorted sometimes. You just saved me from having to return my 730's!
It would be awesome though if you didn't need to set it again whenever you turn the headset on, but it's whatever I guess.

I have experienced the too high of a bass issue too. I also wonder if my audio files are also the culprit, meaning the quality should be better.... Who knows.

Pros:
- Good distance with Nexus 4. There have been times that I walk 10 feet away from my phone without a single issue with audio quality
- Very good battery life. Charges very quickly and takes a while to run out. I've used it for 8hrs and the device still only reports "medium"
- Buttons: All work as expected. I can raise and lower the volume, skip tracks, etc. without a problem. I've tried it on the default music app for the Nexus 4, doubletwist, and pandora. They all work perfectly
- Connection: Always connects. I simply turn on my N4 and my HBS730 and 10/10 it always connects
- Multitasking: While using the device, I also using various apps, like JeFit, GMAIL. whatsapp, etc. and it doesn't stutter.
Cons:
-When running fast, 12km/hr, the device bounces and I question if it'll come off. It hasn't, but I do question it.
- Magnets, they're weak. The ear pieces constantly come off. If you lay them down, they'll stay on, but put them in a backpack and they ear pieces will come off the magnets. Not a big deal.
Apt-X, I can confirm that the Nexus 4 does NOT include Apt-X.
Overall, if you're into cardio excersices or exercise long distances, you'll really appreciate this headset. I've also used this devices with my Nexus 7. I use it mostly for reading and listening to music. The nexus is never more than 3 feet away from the device. It always works perfectly.

Thanks to all of the positive reviews in this thread, I finally purchased the HBS 730 model from Amazon (the white version), and I love everything about. It works flowlessly with Nexus 4, though I still haven't been able to connect it to my Windows 8 laptop, but that's a Dell/Windows driver issue.
And I was impressed that most notifications actually come as a voice through the headphones, not as LED lights or something like that. E.g. when you turn on the headphone, a pleasant lady voice will say the battery volume and whether it's connected or waiting to be paired.
The voice during phone calls is clear for both sides (at least haven't had any complaints expresses) and the overall experience is much better than with my wired headphones that came with Nexus S.
The range is working much better for me - I was concerned about various issues expressed on Amazon about connection getting lost when turning the head or moving 4 feet away. For me, I can walk away to around 15-20 feet with 2 walls in between and the connection is still on.
Works great in the gym where you don't have to fiddle with wires. I still take it off sometimes when I do bench presses, so the headset doesn't fall off or when doing something like shoulder presses where the bar may touch the headset.
BTW, there's an app on the Play Store which reads out the text messages and the sender's name through the headphones - kind of cool if you mainly receive texts in English (though some other languages are supported too). It's called BT Reader.

I like it a lot, just want to know if I can disable the play button on the headset. I rarely use my phone for music, and I often hit the button that starts my music. would love to be able to turn that feature off.

I've had the HBS-700 for 1-1/2 years and used it at the gym and for running. One of the best headsets I've ever owned let alone seen out there. I'm going to keep mine until it breaks but I'll tell you that I will always go for this type of headset in the future. I hardly use the bass boost (like someone said hold down vol+&- at the same time to turn on).
I've never had problems accidentally hitting the play music button but I'm pretty sure you cannot disable it, at least on mine. The one thing I wish I could disable is the light that blinks constantly. Not sure if you can on the 730. If I need to check battery status, I simply hold down the vol down button for a couple seconds and you get a steady light: blue for full battery, purple for medium, and red for low. Just read the online manual or the one that came with your headset to find all the tips and features.

Got mine today, and modded it slightly to get better sound and noise isolation.
Using my old E4C, fitted it with a socket (like those being used by the current Shure SE series). The original earbuds have been cut off, replaced by a Shure plug. I also tried fitting my SE535 on it, which is a bit of an overkill, but it works nonetheless.
The stock cable/wire from the HBS-730 is a bit on the flimsy side, but does the job for the time being. Will probably give it a more durable cable at a later date.

Anyone have Bluetooth distortion issues??

Hey everyone,
Found out my company is ditching Sprint for Verizon which means I have to part with my beloved Nexus 5.
Anyway, from what I've been reading on here it seems like the M8 is really the only Verizon phone that can be rooted. I've had a few HTC phones over the years, including the M7, but they never seem to get along with my car's stereo. The phone part works fine but when I stream music via Bluetooth there is always a great deal of distortion in the high end. Especially on cymbal crashes. This makes it pretty much unlistenable. I'm curious if anyone has experienced anything like with with the M8? I've Googled it a few times and found threads about the One X and One M7 having this problem but have yet to see anything about the M8.

I don't stream to my car often, but on the handful of times I have, I didn't notice any sound issues. This was using Pandora and Google Music, on a Ford (2008 model).

Just got my jaybird x's today and guess what. Filled with static. I could not be more annoyed with this particular phone right now. Three defects in one model I mean come on. Speaker crackle. Screen is creased and looks like you're pressing down on a TV and now Bluetooth has static

I can't say for certain, but I imagine bluetooth audio issues would most likely be due to whatever is actually playing the music, not the phone. Bluetooth audio, in general, is terrible - unless you're using something like the HTC Stereoclip which does not use that same audio codec that just about everything else does. You could have lossless flac files on your phone, and 9/10 times it's gonna sound like crap over bluetooth, no matter what the music is being sent from.

I stream daily over Bluetooth and it sounds amazing. Vzw.

Just plugged mine into my aftermarket JVC GPS stereo on a my truck which gets only occasional use these days. Have to say I was somewhat blown away when I pushed some Comfortably Numb into the 5 speakers (Inc sub) and cranked up the volume. Most impressive...
The wife gets terrific sound from her N7 to some small bluetooth speakers we got last year and has no issues unless she's using TuneIn at which point it goes from OK to awful.
I say this to simply point out that the invariable rule of YMMV seems to hold sway here but I don't think the M8 has any generic systematic failure with bluetooth audio.

This is true. But I'm talking hiss/distortion like a speaker is blown. I'm just streaming Spotify to my cars stereo and not expecting flawless audio but the issues I have with the M7 were unlistenable.

From what I understand, it has something to do with HTC setting the bitpool value too low. Which, in itself, might not be a big deal but it might just be a issue with that value combined with my car's stereo. I just don't want to lose root when I move to Verizon.

Maybe the stereo in your car just sucks? Streaming Pandora over BT in my car usually sounds great. I mean granted it's not as good as using headphones, but it sounds pretty damn good.
Also, I streamed some more over this last weekend, and while the quality was still good, it did disconnect once for no apparent reason. And once it happened, I remembered that it happened a few weeks ago as well. Same thing, I was just driving along both times, and my BT just seemed to shut off. I turned BT back on, reconnected Sync (it's damned annoying how Sync never automatically reconnects), and it worked again for the rest of the weekend.

I saw that an OTA for the M8 pushed out today (I think) that was supposed to fix some Bluetooth issues. I won't if the disconnects were addressed.
I'm M8 should be here on Monday. I really hope it works out OK. I don't want to send it back for an iPhone. :crying:

If the phone volume is at max it will distort. When I turn the volume to max while streaming Bluetooth to my car stereo it sounds crackling and distorted. Turning volume down 2 clicks to about 85% on the phone fixes it

It's not a volume thing. I've tried turning it down when I had the M7 and it sounded the same.

Again, sorry, but it may just be your stereo. When Bluetooth streaming to my car I always have my phones media volume maxed and I control the listening volume via the car volume, and it sounds fine.

Do you have an aftermarket stereo? I've had 4 different head units on my car, all high end Sony and clarion and all had same thing with max volume all my previous 3 phones ( rezound, s4, and m8). Just curious if it's just aftermarket decks that have this issue which I really don't consider an issue. I prefer to have the volume lower on the source and let my deck and equalizer provide the output anyway.

No, it's a factory Ford stereo. If you know someone with a factory BT compatible stereo, maybe try pairing your phone to their car and see if streams with or without distortion?
I mean, it's possible your particular phone itself could be bad. I just don't think it's all M8's since I don't have a problem, and because I imagine we would have seen a lot more complaints.

For six months I have been playing music in my car with a one (M7) via Bluetooth, with very annoying vibrations that eventually damaged my car stereo. I just found out that if I launch the media app via the "HTC car" app, the volume is much louder and I don't have those vibrations anymore. By default the HTC car app in the M7 only includes the default "Music" app, but other media apps may be added.
Hope this may help for the M8 too.
By these vibrations detroyed my car stereo, and I had to change it. I am pretty annoyed that HTC doesn't mention this anywhere, and leaves it to the user to find out.
