Hi there,
I am a new user to an Android Device (Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000); before that I always had a Windows Mobile phone, and I must say now that I am very content with my new device and it's new software. Android works really smooth!
Also, I learned that there is a lot of software to be used on an Android Device, but then your device needs to be rooted first. Now, this is what I would very much like to know...
Is rooting my device a safe procedure?
After rooting my device, am I still able then (if so wished) to restore it back to it's factory settings?
Are there any risks involved?
What about my warranty?
Why should I, or should I NOT, start rooting my device?
What rooting procedure should you suggest to me?
In a way, I am very eager to start rooting my device, but on the other hand I find it a bit scary...
Could you please help me out here?
Hope to hear from you soon.
Thank you!
Robert,
Netherlands.
1. Safe if you know what you're doing.
2. Yes you can revert back to stock
3. You can soft/hard brick your phone if you aren't careful
4. Warranty will be void
4. You should root your phone since you can put custom roms on it, wifi hotspot, debloat your phone. Shouldn't root listed above.
5. follow the link below in order to root.

Thank you for your reply. It all "looks" very easy, although I have a few questions left...
Regarding:
1. "Safe if you know what you're doing." - Do you mean by that: just follow the steps?
3. "You can soft/hard brick your phone if you aren't careful." - What IS a "soft/hard brick" of your phone. In what way then, should I be careful?
Maybe it is NOT fair of me to ask you, also, it seems to me that you are very familiar with it, but would you recommend a novice like me (in this case) to root his new phone, less then a month old, considering the "risks", if there are any, in view of the possible advantages I might find with a rooted phone?
Robert,
Netherlands
Well I'm sure most of the case, people end up soft or hard bricking their phone because they havent read the directions over and over again and get a little too ambitious. Soft bricking is recoverable but when you flash an incorrect rom or kernel, basically keeps boot looping I think. But you can still get into fastboot or recovery. Hard brick is when your phone won't turn on after messing around with the bootloader or something. Sorry, I can't really explain the technical stuff myself as I'm still learning. I'm familiar with rooting and flashing roms on several phones but I don't know if I would say I'm "very familiar" with it. If you're going to be rooting phones often, then I would suggest you learn the steps involved but I mean if this is gonna be the only phone you root and you're not confident in yourself, then I would suggest either a) get it done by someone who knows what they are doing, b) buy one thats already rooted.
OK, thank you for your honest reply. I'll surely take this into consideration. For now, I think, I'll keep my phone the way it is right now - it's doing just fine...
Still, if anyone, with maybe more experience in rooting phones, would like to reply to this thread, I would not mind at all.
Thank you!
Robert,

hi everyone..
i m new to dis forum..
i own galaxy note with updated firmware(gingerbread 2.3.6ddlb2)..
i want to know how can i root it with super one click..
and what is the process to unroot it as well..
please reply...
read the following thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
I was looking for a definite answer as well, as to whether it is safe or not and if so which method, not looking to read several reams of posts that mean little to me. I have read that Samsung chips are defective and rooting the two offered methods on this site are dangerous. So no developments in the past 3-4 months? If so I would have expected a split thread for this from the other ones...either way. Have no time to read filler on forums from end users.
I've rooted phones before all without any issues and always find having to read through forums posts are fruitless endeavors, easier to just do it. But this phone is someone else's and I need to ensure I HAVE A LITTLE MORE RESPONSIBILITY HERE.
I only want to root their phone and nothing more, so they can take control of their security.

CAPTCHA codes suck!
What is with Capthca codes?
Just to let people know I have tried to root using one click method and it failed! No harm to phone but ineffective. The one posted at addictivetips. I never have had a one click method for for me to date, in all years at rooting phones. So anyone that can verify for me a method that does work, I will be grateful. A step by step guide, do not care how many steps or how much I have to type in! Just something that works without fail.
TY
Hates Captcha codes...use a different method.

Rooting Galaxy Note GT-N7000 with KK7
Hello Guys,
I'm not knew to root. Did it twice but that was on Galaxy S3's. The Note is not as easy.
The 3rd Droid needs to be rooted, because the carrier has no upgrade from GB 2.3.6!
Also, this Note is SIM locked, can I root with it? I do not find an online site to unlock my Carrier. Tried them all.
I searched all over this site for days but do not find a CF-Root for this kernel, KK7
Hope you can point me in the correct direction.
Here is all the info from my phone:
PDA: N7000UBKK7
PHONE: N7000WEKK1
CSC: N7000UWEKK1
Thanks, you guys are doing a great job!
Guys, I have spent hours rooting and unlocking my S3. Reason it has taken so long is either I don't know what I'm doing or there are so many ways to do it, some may be outdated or something. I'll side with the first reason. But, I do have experience in rooting...kept my OG Droid rooted/overclocked/customized. Did the same with my Thunderbolt. Also rooted my S3 a few months ago after the VZW update that crapped out the radio. When they released the fix, I removed root and installed it. Got the urge for some new stuff and here I am...
Here is what I'm doing:
- Using CausalR795b. Seems quick and easy. Definitely provides root, but I'm not sure about unlocking the bootloader. What is the insecure aboot? Says it's ready to install it, but I can't find out what this is?
- Trying to install TWRP recovery. What is the easiest way to do this? The last time I did it with Goomanager, I got the Verizon Unauthorized Software message at boot.
- Trying to install the latest Hyperdrive ROM. Got it installed once and on reboot, got the VZW Unauthorized message again,
- Using ODIN 3.07 to flash a stock ROM after getting the error message.
Can anyone tell me a link with good directions, start to finish? Or, give me some advice? To me, at least, seems like VZW has made customizing the S3 unnecessarily complicated,
Thanks in advance.
Insecure aboot is the unlocked bootloader. Once you install that you will no longer get the VZW Unauthorized message.
First welcome to the community.
second, this is the wrong section.
third, you have to use D2VZW-CASUAL-R634b release to fully unlock bootloader

My bad...I did post in the wrong place. Wasn't even thinking about it. Had just spent so long in this subforum trying to find answers, must have lost my bearing.
I really appreciate your help! The older Causal did everything in one try with no hiccups whatsoever. Why isn't anything posted about this noted in the newer Causal thread? It might be in there somewhere and if I would have seen it, hours would have been saved.
Now rocking the newest Hyperdrive and probably going to try a few more ROM's. Thanks again!
I dont have the phone yet and was wondering if anyone has successfully completed a rooting of this phone. I am looking to buy it and wanted to know if it is root-able.
why do people like you title your posts to sound like it happened?
Seriously, so annoying.
Questions about rooting lg g stylo 2
Well I didnt intended for it to sound like it was already rooted. I wanted to know if anyone has successfully performed a rooting and wanted to know if the phone is work rooting.
So is that a 'no'? Cause I'd love to root this thing.
Yes its a no
Well ive been looking for a thread for it but they are all mostly the original stylo.
Hmm.... Maybe we can ask a moderator to make a lg stylo 2 forum. It won't do any good to look around on the stylo section and muddy already disgusting water with ANOTHER variation of this device. Either that or go looking for an exploit like kids look for Easter eggs.
Confirmed. I successfully rooted via king root on marshmallow

Careful, another user bricked their device messing around with king root. In the meantime hard reboot the phone and see if root is maintained. Report back on this please, I'd like to know what happens
I too have successfully rooted with king root under marshmallow. I lose it after reboot though.
Poop I hate when people post stuff like that.

I think I found instructions for unlocking the bootloader here. Would unlocking it keep me from activating it when the time comes (assuming I do not brick it of course )? I am using virgin mobile. I've been waiting for permanent root before make this my daily.

Haha, I forgot how much fun XDA can be, lol. Nothing like watching a bunch of Junior members post up like they own the place. Seriously, we obviously all have the same common goal, so why act like a bunch of trolls putting each other on blast? That's not gonna look attractive to mods who could recommend a new forum for our device or for devs that already hate this kind of behavior after they've made contributions. They can look right here and see they want nothing to do with a bunch of prepaid carrier newbies whining and *****ing amongst each other over development that hasn't even occurred yet. Now, back on topic, not once has kingroot even begun to work for me, LGMS550 metro pcs. What version of kingroot are you using and please post a link for it along with your variant. Just saying.....
The situation is like most of LG phones with Android 6.x.
Even with bootloader unlocked, some fastboot commands are disabled.
Under such case, a .tot method is the only way to install TWRP which also requires unlocked bootloader.

I haven't unlocked the bootloader on my 2 Plus yet, but if it's like the original Stylo, it's a cake walk. I just want it rooted with custom recovery so I can use layers themes and have a nandroid handy if a theme breaks it.

If this is directed at my post, I was just giving my 2 cents hoping it may be helpful in some way. If this is useless information then I will just keep lurking and waiting. To answer your question I used KR version 4.9.5 my carrier is virgin mobile ls775zv3 marshmallow 6.0.1
Bootloader
Unlocked 2 Plus bootloader using same method as original G Stylo. Kingroot does not work yet, but over 400 people have sent them a request for the 2 Plus, so hopefully soon. MetroPCS 6.0.1.
I tried Kingroot, and not a chance thus far. I'm on Metro with the MS550, I've heard some with the Boost variant having partial success, but KingRoot isn't very successful right now. Unlocking the boot loader on Metro one is easy, just fast boot unlock bootloader I think was the command lol
Yes many commands in fast boot seem to be missing, most notably boot. I have been experimenting with making a twrp or was going to try and find one that might work. I would have tested more if I could boot rather than risking it by flashing it.
On a side note, these phones, i assume, are as hard to break as the G Stylo. I.E. download mode can fix all. However I can't seem to get ahold of a kdz for the stock os. Anyone have any thoughts on that?
Was wondering how progress might be going on this phone
I'm considering jumping to the S7. Is there a reliable, working root yet?

overheating, lag, extreme batter drain, but these can be fixed by setting the cpu governor to on-demand or interactive. those were the only issues I personally experienced, but was easily fixed.
occasionally I will have bad lag, but after a reboot all is well. speaking of boots....boot time is horrendous.
Well, the lag is what I'm trying to get rid of, which is what I'm currently getting with my LG G5. So, I guess switching to the S7 won't make much difference.
Sent from my LG-H830 using Tapatalk
Sounds fixable. I think I'll go stock for a day or so then root it.
I have read that if you freeze the bloat, that helps with battery and lag issues as well.
So, from what I've read, it has to do with the modified boot.img. I really just want to restore all my stuff from titanium backup
Maybe rooting isn't even worth it right now. Unless I root, restore, then flash stock boot.img, if possible.

Not really worth it... there are some workarounds. But, you will never get rid of the lag. Stay on stock until there is either a new root method or unlocked bootloader.
EDIT: Echoe Rom is out for the SMG930T and SMG935T !!!!!! No lag at all
Thats what I plan on doing for now

No. The eng boot will cause a little lag and more battery drain than compared to stock.

You'll brick your s7
Looks guys, if you knew anything about locked bootloaders, or rooting at all, its not as simple as an odin flash then a root.bat execution and your done. It might root for a while as did mine, then security will catch up with the phone. C'mon so many people are going to have bricked phones because of these fake postings.
I tried it for fun, knew it would brick the t-mobile S7, and it did. I just wanted to be 100% positive before I wrote this. Don't root your U.S. S7, it is impossible and will lead to nothing but problems and stuck boot because of google/samsung security. They went as far as blocking the google account registered with the S7 on google at the time. So think before you just odin then root.bat, your opening more than just a door, trust me.
On top of that, non of the so called odin flashable recovery firmwares are real. They just lead to advertising websites that collect cookie data and make you click links you don't want to click. Be advised.
Of course advertising and spam companies are going to take advantage of people like the android rooting community, who know they are taking a risk rooting in the first place, so you cannot complain when you get malware from these sites, because technically your doing something your not supposed to. Don't just go clicking random downloads because they sound legit. 90% are not.

If I am wrong about the recovery file, or a flashable image file that actually roots the phone (custom recovery TWRP, cwm anything) please prove me wrong. Root is not root without the recovery. Don't try to root any android phone without an available custom recovery and legit recovery files at hand.
The S7 has a locked bootloader for a reason, attempting root without a custom recovery available to work with is plain stupid.

The US models are able to be rooted. You are not well informed if you believe otherwise. I highly doubt you "bricked" your phone, probably just a boot loop or stuck at a screen. it can be fixed.
The engineering boot is how we are able to obtain root. There are a ton of details on how it works, so I am not going to go into details.
please don't post misinformation, it only confuses the ones trying to learn.

You are right... there are working root methods... that works flawlessly with a few tweaks... In regards to the bricking, The firmware I've had the most issues with is PG1 but it is a simple fix, just disable or block security updates with titanium backup ... or alternatively you can install Echoe Rom which debloats, deodex's and deknox's. I've had zero issues with this rom. No bricks no boot loops and no lag. I hope this helps

It may not be the prettiest root, but it is a working root none-the-less. Other than the eng boot lag issues (which can be mitigated mostly through things like Govtuner, etc.), all apps that require root permissions work fine as intended. Bootloops can be avoided by disabling security policy services. Other than the random reboot every now and again, I'm running strong since the day root came out.

Wow talk about uninformed. I've been running a rooted Galaxy S7 for just about a month now. I had rooted even earlier then that but I didn't know about the security policy updating. Yeah, security caught up but it didn't brick the phone. Just reflash the stock files and everything is fine. Now that I've been able to freeze the security update policy I haven't had a problem.
:bad: I was wrong. It works. You just have to know what your doing. And have recovery files at hand because you will probably face a time when you accidently lock up your t-mobile s7 on boot.

LOL wtf is this guy talking about!?!?!?! It is possible to get root witha locked bootloader... some devices have received root from modified ENG kernels but have not received an unlocked bootloader ... I mean it's not bad at all, at least we don't have to worry about tripping the Knox counter ;P
