FRP Bypass on Insignia Flex 10 + Possibly Others - Android General

I recently purchased off of eBay a Insignia Flex 10 tablet. It was dirt cheap, so I knew something had to be wrong; IE: not charging, stuck in DLmode, etc. Welps, it worked fine with the exception that it was locked down to a unknown google account, and the seller claimed ignorance... Anyhow, I've had to deal with FRP in the past, so undeterred I jumped right in and kicked its a$$... And this is how I did it:
At initial setup screen, hit power butt0n
Choose "settings" from Shutdown Menu
Choose Wifi and connect to a hotspot then go back to initial Settings menu
Choose "Sound & Notifications"
Choose "App Notifications"
Click the three box icon thing top right corner and select "Show System"
Scroll to very bottom and select\long press "You Tube"
Choose "App Settings"
Choose "About"
Choose "You Tube Terms of Service"
At this point, Chrome will open. You now can use whatever means (via chrome..) you have available to you
to get the file "TestDPC_3011.apk" (attached top this post) onto your tablet. I personally used HFS web\file server on my local network. When you first attempt to download the file, a couple of things will happen. It will want to update permissions
(agree\let it) then next it will ***** about blocking the install. Follow link to the security settings, and turn on
"Unknown Sources". Re-run the install of TestDPC, then choose "Open" upon installation completion. If you made it this far,
the rest will be totally self explanatory. Good work! You've just circumvented FRP.

this guide really did work! thank you so much!

+++ worked great on a lenovo 10 tablet TB-X103F 6.0.1 . But can I remove Test DPC app or remove it from device administrator? I've already opened developer options and turned on everything plus signed in to gmail. I can definitely live with it like this.

Unable to remove/uninstall an App/widget "Lock Screen Widget". How can I?

Apparently this app/windget is notorious for being unable to be removed. I'm rooted, is there a way to remove it aside from going through the Market (which doesn't work)?
Go into root explorer, mount as r/w find the apk file and try and delete
Sent from my netarchy_toast, froyo beast of a machine evo!
Hey
Try this out
Go to settings > Location & Security > device administrator
Remove the lock screen widget thing
Then uninstall it
(Titanium Backup helps)
So I have attempted this and I have had no luck.
As stated, I went to Settings, Location & Security, Select Device Administrators.
I arrived at the Device administrators page and the "Lock Screen Widget" box is checked. I click it, arrive at another menu, click deactivate, get a warning message to proceed, I click "OK." I then return to the same Device administrators page and the "Lock Screen Widget" box remains checked.
I do not know what to do. Any suggestions?
(My phone is not rooted and it is running 2.2.1) (edit: I know this is in the EVO 4G forum but I didn't want to start a new thread. I searched and this is what I found.)

Text Message Tone

I can't change the native text message incoming sound on my new A9
Dedinity not using a 3rd party app. Definitely have no other one on my phone. The only thing I have is Nova, which I am not using. Still on Sense.
Im in the app and goto notifications and then under "Incoming Sound" I select a different one, hit apply, then nothing happens.
Thanks
So Much
Try from the Themes app
So can't I. Believe it is a bug. Know anyway to report to HTC?
Another bug is that if you use set default in app management menu, you'll have no way to clear the default(allow app picker upon action), unless you install another can do browsing, messaging or calling.

I'm confused what app you are using? My default text messages app doesn't say "Incoming Sound" as a setting. It just says "Notification sound" and I can change it without issue.

Can you tell me after you pick the tone from the settings of the message app, will the text still be "Default ringtone(Dahlia)"?

Nope. It changes to what I select (note, I set my default to Lotus).
Sorry for not making it clear. I can chamge to whichever preloaded tone as well. Bit it seemed impossible to use any custom tone I pit in notification folder under my storage.
Go to your "Settings" -> "Apps" -> select "All Apps" on the top; scroll down and select "Messages". Select "Permissions" and allow "Storage" to be turned on as part of the Apps Permissions. Go back to your message settings, and select the "Notification sound" you'd like. After messing around for an hour I found that this worked for me; hopefully it'll work for you as well.

Good find. I've noticed that permissions are a lot more granular with Marshmallow than with Lollipop it seems
Thanks all. Especially CJ926
How did you even know this. I (novice) even switched back from the combined storage to separate storage. Apparently it had nothing to do with that. And I have a lot of my own tones and it also had nothing to do with that.
Really how did you know.
and Jolly, what in this case do you mean by granular?
(I do get 2 text messages to myself when I text myself (I know, a crazy way, but my preferred quick way to note myself. Not just here but in the interim while using the Zmax. Any clues CJ orJolly)
II am getting used to the phone. Like it. Not loving it yet. The hiccups in speed are np. For me it is the size. Hard to go from a bigger phone, Note 5 to this. Typing. I guess it just takes time. Afterall I was once using a phone this size. And iPhone users have for years.

Saved my day! Thanks a lot.
Love the phone. But it is gonna take getting used to from a Note to this size wise
For eric0668, sorry for the late reply as I was at work till very late last night. I guess I was just lucky to notice the option, after messing with A9 for an hour upon getting it. Marshmallow does contain lots of smaller details when it comes to 'App Permissions' (possibly what Jolly meant by 'granular'), which is very nice for customization purposes.
I'm not sure if you've already figured it out eric0668, but you'd have to do something similar like what I mentioned, if you'd like to customize incoming ringtone for individual contacts under your "Phonebook." Go to your "Settings" -> "Apps", then select the three vertical dots on your top right portion of the screen, and you should see a "Configure apps" option. Select it and then select the "App permissions" option. Scroll down to "Storage", select it and then scroll down to "People" and turn the option on. This way you wouldn't be stuck on the "default" ringtone for your individual contacts.
There's plenty of customization options under App permissions, so I hope this will also help you out.
I've noticed with the A9 if an app doesn't work properly then so far it's always been related to the permissions as stated above. After reading this thread I FINALLY got my notification tone for messaging to work. I've always used a particular tone from Zedge. Last night at a grocery store I used (tried to use) my store app to scan my shopper club card. It forced close as soon as I signed in! Later at night I read a thread somewhere online and went to Settings>Apps>Wegmans>Permissions and turned them on. BAM, the app works fine!
Other than this minor quirk, the only things I don't like about the phone are 1) It's so new I had a hell of a time finding a case. I settled for a $6 cheapo online with $15 next day shipping. 2) Without a case the phone is like holding a stick of butter! 3) I seriously miss the front dual speakers on all the "One" models. The only thing keeping me from returning this phone for an M9 is the fingerprint scanner! The M9 would be free for my upgrade, this A9 cost me $150 to upgrade. ?

Pixel Double-Tap-To-Wake (DT2W) NOW WORKING via my new found method.

Guys, READ THIS 100% BEFORE MESSING WITH YOUR DEVICE. YOU MUST BE ROOTED TO DO THIS, AND YOU MUST HAVE ELEMENTALX KERNEL INSTALLED. If you do not know what you are doing, what root is, what a kernel is, or how to begin, it's likely best you stop now...with that said... I figured out a way to enable double tap to wake on the pixel that actually works as I have already done it. Visit the following link: (ignore the fact that the thread is about the Note 3. This is an android apk file that works on 7.1, and on the Pixel just fine.) I am using it on my 5" Pixel as I type this even, however, Although I do not think it would have any trouble on the 5.5" Pixel XL, do not hold me to it working on that device, as I have not tested it. USE THIS INFO AT YOUR OWN RISK. I did not create, contribute to, or assist in any part of creating this app, and take no credit for it. The app downloads with a file name of "app-release.apk" (odd I know) but it is in fact the "Kernel Adiutor MOD" app. Once the kernel is installed, and you have RE-RUN THE ROOT METHOD, (which is the boot-to-root.img you should have already done when you rooted your Pixel), then download the app, install it, got to the menu icon at the top left, go to "Misc Controls" toggle the "Apply on Boot" to "On", and the "Toggle SE Linux" to "Off" which changes the status to "Permissive", then reboot, and return to the app where you need to go to the menu, tap "Wake Controls", and toggle the "Apply on Boot" to "On", and "DoubleTap2Wake" to "Halfscreen". It works anywhere on the screen. I tested it multiple times (the double tap that is), but for some reason "Fullscreen" setting will not stick. After doing this, reboot again, and BOOM ! You have double tap to wake !
PLEASE NOTE, AFTER A REBOOT, THE SET ON BOOT NEEDS YOU TO UNLOCK YOUR PHONE AT LEAST ONCE, AND TAKES SOMETHING LIKE 2 MINUTES OR A LITTLE LESS TO APPLY THE SETTING, AND FOR DOUBLE TAP TO BEGIN WORKING, BUT WILL REMAIN WORKING SEAMLESSLY FOR THE DURATION OF THE DEVICE BEING POWERED ON (FROM WHAT I'VE SEEN SO FAR) JUST AN FYI. BEST I CAN GIVE YA GUYS, I SIMPLY FIGURED OUT PART OF THE CONFIGURATION TO MAKE IT WORK. IN THE SETTINGS YOU CAN TURN OFF THE NOTIFICATION IT CREATES AFTER APPLYING THE SETTING IF YOU WANT.

How do you turn off Google Assistant?

With Google Now there was an option to turn it off. I haven't been able to find that option for Google Assistant.
Edit: To be clear, I selected "No Thanks" in the Assistant settings screen. However, if I say "OK, Google" it still takes me to the settings screen, indicating it's still listening.

Don't feel bad VM--I'm in the same boat with you. I have zero interest in/desire for Google Assistant. This may sound weird, hut speaking interrupts my thought process. When I type, I can continue to think. So, more. often than not, I'd much rather type than speak.
So, when I finally got around to the installing it for the second time, (The first time was a big fail because I wanted NO part of it.) I got yo a point where it wanted to link to my other devices. (I think. It's been a while, but I think that's what it wanted to do. For some reason, I keep thinking that it wanted to turn on Google Assistant on all of my devices. ) That got a big fat "No thanks". (I knew I should have registered that device with a new account!) "No thanks" was a legitimate option, at that point. I thought the installation would proceed on that device--the one where it was being installed. Instead, the installation process terminated.
Apparently, my installation isn't completed either, so I cannot turn it off. To make matters worse, it's occupying a ton of space on a device that has little to spare.
There are at least a couple ways to get to the Google settings, and the following is one way.
Settings > Google > Search
My notes suggest Settings in that area previously went to the first screen posted, without first setting up Assistant, but the v8.0 version from November 2017 kept going to Assistant setup on my phone. After installing the v8.1 update from December 2017, it's again possible to turn off Assistant, without first setting it up.
Settings > Google > Search > Settings (only first time went to Assistant setup) > Pixel > Google Assistant - Off
The second screen posted is located here.
Settings > Google > Search > Voice > "OK Google" detection
Assistant needs a bunch of settings to run, so if the items in the following are turned off or paused Assistant can't be used. My phone seemed to use a bit less battery in standby with Assistant turned off and these items disabled, but it's rather minimal, maybe around 3% less battery per day on Android v7.
Settings > Google > Search > Accounts & privacy > Google activity controls
Changing the following will alter what happens when holding the home button. I have mine set to call android.intent.action.VOICE_ASSIST using Tasker.
Settings > Apps & notifications > Default apps > Assist & voice input > Assist app

Just in case you don't know, when you invoke Google Assistant you can hit the little keyboard icon (rectangle with six dots) on the left and then type into it instead of speaking. Just FYI in case the speaking thing is the only reason you don't want to use it.

Step by Step Guide for Spoofing Location on Pokemon Go for S7 and S7 Edge (ROOT)

Edit: I have given my S7 Edge to a family member, because they needed a phone. So I will not be able to experiment with this any longer. If you are not able to reverse these steps, I advise reinstalling firmware.
WARNING - This will trip Knox and erase the contents of your device. Please back up any important files. And don't blame me for any bricking or boot loops. That risk comes with the territory.
Please leave comments against spoofing out. This is a guide. Not a debate.
Note that there are shorter/easier methods, but i believe that these steps will further ensure that you will be able to spoof your location without the risk of a soft ban. Provided that you follow the rules to changing location.
I wanted to type up this quick guide, because I found it a little difficult to get some rooted devices to not only spoof a location, but to do so without constantly teleporting between locations. I have tested this on my own G935F, and it works flawlessly with the March Security patch. I will not guarantee this method for any other devices. Not even other Galaxy phones as I tried this same method with my Note 4, and it still teleports. It should work on the S7 series (Exynos and Chinese Qualcomm only) just fine, though. I played for 2 hours with no teleporting. US models do not seem to have Twrp, so this method will most likely not work for them. Sorry.
Please forgive the lack of photos as this is my 1st guide.
Requirements:
-A rootable S7 or S7 Edge running stock Android Nougat (I do not know if this works with Marshmallow)
-The latest Odin (Found HERE)
-External storage. For some reason TWRP doesn't want to read the internal storage. I used a flash drive with an OTG cable.
- The latest Twrp (Found HERE)
-The latest Magisk & Magisk Manager (Found HERE)
- Either DM-Verity & Forced Encryption Disabler (Found HERE) or Samsung Anti-Root Removal Tool (Found HERE). Both are supposed to work. I ran into an issue and ended up flashing both while trying to narrow down the issues, and it worked for me.
-GPS Joystick Fake GPS Location (Found HERE)
-Package Disabler Pro (Samsung) (Found HERE for $1.49) You can try a free route. Just make sure that it plays nice with Samsung devices.
I recommend a fresh firmware install before attempting, but to each their own. You can find firmware on sammobile or here on XDA.
Part 1 - Flashing Firmware
1. Go into your phone's settings, and enable Developer options. To do this, scroll to the bottom of settings, choose "about device", then "software info". search for "build number", and press it multiple times until your phone says that you are a developer.
2. Go back to the main settings menu, and at the very bottom there should now be "Developer Options". Press it, and enable "OEM unlock", and "USB debugging".
3. Go back to the main settings page, and press "Cloud and accounts". Then press accounts. If there is a Google account signed in, remove it. Do this by pressing "Google", and select your gmail account. Then press the menu button (the 3 dots in the top right corner), and press "Remove Account".
4. Press and hold down the power button, home button, and the volume down button. Do this until the phone shuts off, and and displays a greenish bluish screen that says "Warning". Press the volume up button to continue.
5. Go to your computer and extract the files for Odin into their own folder. Do the same for your stock firmware, and Magisk. Do not do this for Twrp, as the file is ready to go.
6. Open Odin and plug in your device. Under "ID:COM", one of the boxes should be lit up, and displaying "COM" followed by a number. If it is not, you do not have the proper drivers installed, and should do so. I obtain my drivers via Samsung Kies, but there are standalone drivers available. Look HERE for more info on drivers.
7. Once your device is showing up in Odin, you can install the firmware. There are 2 ways of doing this (Only 1 of these will apply to you);
-If you extracted 1 file from the firmware zip file that you downloaded, Click on "AP*", and select that file. In my experience, these files almost always end with the word "HOME".
-If you extracted 4 or 5 files from the firmware zip file, then click "BL" and select the file that begins with "BL". Do the same for "AP*","CP", and "CSC". Ignore the file that says "HOME".
*Allow your computer time to load the AP file. This can take quite some time. The program will act like it is crashing. It isn't.
8. Click on the options tab, and uncheck "auto-reboot". We're going to get all of this flashing done as quick as possible. Once you have done that, click "Start".
9. Allow the device time to flash. If the top left box says "PASSED" you successfully flashed new firmware, and are ready to flash a custom recovery. If it says "FAILED", there was a problem, and you should re-check the steps.
Part 2 - Installing Custom Recovery (TWRP)
1. Repeat step 4 from Part 1 to re-enter Download mode. Click "Reset" in Odin.
2. Assuming that the phone is still successfully connected to the pc, Click "AP", and select the file for Twrp.
3. Make sure that the "Auto-Reboot" option is still unchecked, and click "Start".
4. Allow the device a few seconds to flash. If the top left box says "PASSED" you successfully flashed Twrp, and are ready to root. If it says "FAILED", there was a problem, and you should re-check the steps.
5. This part requires some timing on your part. So read the entire step before following along.
-Hold down the same buttons that you did to enter download mode (volume down + home + power). When the screen goes black, quickly release the volume down button, and instead press and hold the volume up button. You should be holding (volume up + home + power).
-When the screen says "Galaxy S7/Edge", release the power button, but continue to hold the other 2 until you see the screen "Teamwin".
Part 3 - Rooting/Magisk
1. Plug your external storage into your computer, and place all of the magisk files onto it.
2. Once in Twrp, you'll be greeted with a warning. If you slide to the right, you will not be able to reboot, until you have finished flashing the files mentioned below. Slide right, when ready.
3. Press "Wipe", and "Format Data". Type "yes" to continue.
4. Press the on-screen home button, and press "Install".
5. Plug your external storage into your phone via an OTG adapter. Press "Select Storage", and choose OTG.
6. Choose the Magisk file that you just moved there, then choose "Add more Zips", and add "Samsung Anti-root Removal Tool" and "DM-Verity & Forced Encryption Disabler" in that order. Swipe to flash.
7. Reboot, and allow extra time for your phone to set up. If you are caught in a boot loop, re-flash everything, and try again. You can try to troubleshoot, but restarting eliminates oversight.
Part 4 - Configuration
1. Set your phone up as normal.
2. Magisk
-Plug the external storage back into the phone, and open the file manager. Locate, and install the Magisk Manager. There will be a notice about unknown sources. Follow the settings and override it.
-Open Magisk, and make sure it is up to date (3 green check marks). Press "Tap to start SafetyNet check". You should get 2 more green checks.
-Press the menu button (top left), and press "Downloads". Download and Install "App Systemizer". Reboot.
3. Package Disabler Pro
-Go to the Play Store, and install "Package Disabler Pro (Samsung)".
-Run the app. It will tell you to install and activate "PDP Engine". Follow the on screen instructions.
-Re-open the package disabler, and search for "Fused Location". Check the box to disable it. This will disable the GPS. So re-enable this if you need it to work properly. Reboot.
4. Install Pokemon Go
5. GPS Joystick
-Go to the Play store, and install "GPS Joystick Fake GPS Location". Once installed, open the app "AppSystemizer". Check the box next to the GPS Joystick. Reboot.
-Go back into the GPS Joystick app, and press "Fix GPS Jump To Real Location". Make sure that it is set to "Default".
-Go to the app's settings (top left, then 2nd to bottom).
-Turn on the following; Enable Indirect Mocking, Enable System Mode, Disable Location Service, Save Last Location, Auto Close App, Auto Start JoyStick.
-Set the Auto Start app for Pokemon Go.
-Process Interval, Update Interval, and Idle Interval should all be 500 ms.
-The rest should be fine as-is.
6. Go to settings, re-enable Developer Options, and set Mock Location app to "GPS Joystick". The game will allow this now that it is a system app. Reboot one last time for good measure.
If all steps were followed, you should have spoofing with no teleporting.
As of 7/24/2017, you should be inactive for 2 hours prior to making spoofing far away from your last location.

Here are resources for many of the steps. I would utilize these before posting questions here.

Avery useful video guide for rooting
Seems like a lot of the last part is uneeded
All i have done in the past is download the app, move it to system with lucky patcher and disable location service in the apps settings and reboot
(system mode is active automatically after you move it to a system app)
Still works for me today just caught 4 Lugia haha :good:
no need for messing with package disabler/debug settings/ extra settings to be changed in the spoof app
it's a great guide, just one hell of a read i think you could possibly shorten the rooting/flashing to links to the official threads too (that way people will have access to troubleshooting already done too)

Thanks for the feedback.
I definitely agree that it is long winded. My S7 Edge was being particularly stubborn, though. So while some may get by on doing parts of this, I feel that this will ensure not only spoofing, but rubber band free spoofing. My Note 4 is even worse. As it still teleports back and forth with all of this applied. It may have something to do with my location. IDK.
I'll probably link root and recovery guides as resources, but considering how many people are new to root, and are trying to get this to work, I felt like extreme hand holding was essential, and most guides on here assume that you know all of the basics, and so they will skim over details that other may find to be important.
Congrats on the Lugia. Try going to Grant Park in Chicago. A lot of the lengendaries there are 100% catch rate until 5PM today.

haha yes i understand i just didn't want you to get overrun with complaints about so many different things flashing/root/twrp/magisk etc.. as it is a lot for a person not used to this sort of stuff to do in one go
yeah that's where i went only play when theirs an event on tbh.
Great guide either way bro clearly put plenty of time into it :good:

Very true. This guide is not for the faint of heart. Will definitely be adding resource links.
GPS
Great guide but how can I switch back to normal GPS when required?
Followed it to the word, but when it comes in installing magisk, it says "please restore stock boot image" and just stops installing.
Edit:
Turns out i left TWRP installed from last time i tried, didn't even know, Best off starting fresh as I skipped that part thinking I was on stock!
Re-did it with 7.0 (G935FXXU1DQBT security patch feb) and it works flawlessly! Thanks dude!!
Thanks this worked great. But I have one issue, ever since I've rooted I cannot get my GPS to work normally anymore, I used the package disabler and turned on fused locations again but my GPS is still not working, have any idea what could be causing the issue?
This no longer works. Decided to do this on my other s7 edge, same model as I did before. Done this 3 times and PDP Engine fails with some message about device is rooted.
This DID work as my previous post but now PDP Engine fails (it was updated today 23rd) but I tried an older version (2.1) and still says the message. Not too sure what to do at this point.
I have been using this method for a long time and i wanted to turn it off and start normal real gps. But as you mentioned as below:
"-Re-open the package disabler, and search for "Fused Location". Check the box to disable it. This will disable the GPS. So re-enable this if you need it to work properly. Reboot."
I did re-enable Fused Location and rebooted but it did not fixed my gps. And now maps does not show any location either. So what am i doing wrong here ?

I would do the following to make gps work again:
- re-enable "fused location" inside package disabler.
-re-enable "location services" inside the joystick app
-disable "indirect mocking" in the joystick app
-inside Developer options, set mock location to "none".
I hope this helps.

Disable locations in any way, dont work for me.
Google maps keeps finding my real location... So that's mean it will jump.
I'm using a j7 2015 and disable location from gps joystick or the 3 apks I tested, dont seems to stop the real GPS like in my lg g3 and xiaomi redmi note 3.
What to do now??
Edit: and I did this in the S7 edge of a friend, but it keeps jumping
How to Root snapdragon HK variant S7 edge?
I'm getting Cannot install Custom software error .
OEM set to unlock and USB debugging as well so why is the error?
Hello @sireniankyle , how are you? I have a question, is this method still working on the Samsung s7 edge?
I want to spoof by using pokemod, but I need to root my s7 edge first, and I'm kind of lost, if I do this on my s7 edge or would be best to buy a Xiaomi to make sure that the root process works better. Can you help me bro? I'm kind of afraid to do something wrong with the only smartphone that I have...
do this step work for android 8 as well?
