I bought an HTC One A9 from eBay.in and the seller said it's AT&T unlocked variant. It supports VoLTE and is currently showing software number 1.57.617.20 in About >> Software information. If Sprint is a CDMA only network, then the seller is right or else he might be confused as I found Sprint sim while unboxing.
Anyways, my concern is to get the Nougat update on this device. For that, I need to know how to proceed further since I have no idea whether it's from AT&T or Sprint. Which ROM should I use and how? Apologies for being naive, but I need you people help to identify and guide me on installing the correct Nougat ROM on my device. Thanks
P.S. There is a software update for my device with number 1.57.617.32 but I couldn't install it because it gives me "variant system version" error.

"Variant system version" mean that the OTA update detected that your MID # doesn't match the expected MID the ota update was made for. I'm 99.9% sure that your phone is a Sprint A9 that was badly converted to AT&T. Check info in bootloader mode and check your "fastboot getvar all" output.

My MID is 2PQ912000 and CID is 11111111. Currently, I am running 1.57.617.20. Can I update to 2.18.617.10 RUU mentioned in this RUU Collection post.
Also, somewhere I read that if you have SuperCID, you can flash any RUU from any region or carrier, is it true? If it's true I will search the internet for Indian unlocked variant Nougat RUU over the internet.

Just to be sure, you've got this information using fastboot not from any kind of "CID getter" app? What is your phone variant when you boot in download mode?

Your MID must also be compatible with the RUU.

I got this information from fastboot. By pressing volume down and power button. Didn't use any app. If it's safe I will proceed with the SD card method. Since the latest one doesn't have a zip variant , will use the second one .1 RUU and firmware

I forgot to mention that in download mode it says "locked" between arsterik on the top. Should I proceed with flashing or not

Tried to flash firmware first but got the fail 12 error - 12 RU_ZIP_ERROR. Following is what i tried:
Copied the firmware zip to sd card and then renamed it to "2PQ9IMG.zip". Booted in download and tried to flash before getting the above error.

My friend accidently bought HTC one M8 verizon from UAE, the phone is new with kitkat 4.4.2, everything is fine but when he tried to update the rom, it failed and says that software update only works in CDMA mode, this is what i actually dont understand, is this locked or unlocked mobile? and is there any possibility to unlock this phone like normal unlocked M8?
To actually update the software via ota you will have to be on Verizon's network. It comes globally unlocked meaning that it is capable of being used on other networks and such, but the problem you are running into is the fact that you are not on Verizon's network so you cannot update their software. If you are s-off there are stickies that contain the firmware and updated bootloaders that you can flash so that your software is all up to date. If you are still s-on and want to update I believe there is a 4.4.4 RUU that works for s-on in that same thread. If you are wanting to s-off it will prolly be easier to use sunshine on 4.4.2 since it works without problems, where on 4.4.4 you can get s-off with sunshine, however there are some users who are still not able to get it yet.

You could be right.
My point is that I used a verizon sim card (deactivated) to download two updates via wifi. The phone probably wants to verify that somehow the phone is in verizon's network and checks the sim card only. My m8 also was 4.4.2, after two updates now is 4.4.4.

Sorry, as the model is not the same, I would not risk buying a phone which doesn't support the ROM you deserve. Can you get it somewhere else as an a9?
I believe that you can buy it from htc's website. If your looking for installments/monthly payments. They offer PayPal's installment program

Technically speaking, the phone is considered the HTC One A9s, model 2PQ9100, FCCID NM82PQ9100. The hardware is identical to any other A9 UHL variant.
IF the phone can be can be rooted, I'm pretty certain that you'll be able to s-off with Sunshine and do a full conversion. Maybe @jcase knows more.

Here's the catch...
Unlock bootloader>flash TWRP>install SuperSU>use Sunshine to s-off ---the device could then (in theory) be converted to the desired A9 MID/CID, and be like any other non-Sprint A9
OR
(Somehow) get root with locked bootloader>Sunshine bootloader unlock and s-off ---same result
If the bootloader can't be unlocked, and there's no way to root otherwise, then the device will be locked down tight until a root exploit is achieved.

That's true, unless the carrier has prohibited unlocking and/or htcdev doesn't support this carrier branded variant, which is possible. There's just no way to know without additional information.

Haha thanks I think. The difference here when I flash recovery and unlock I needed to go to bootloader mode not in download mode. (similar to another device)

It's pretty strange that fastboot is implemented differently than with the A9. It would be logical for the Telstra to share a similar firmware base.
Do you mind posting the output of fastboot getvar all and cat /proc/emmc? (remove your IMEI of course)

Downgrading the android version with Moto firmware is always a risk.
If you downgrade you need to disable updates, OTA updates could brick the device.
Once the bootloader is unlocked, find your

You can find your firmware here

Find the flashfile.xml in the firmware folder
and use the online flashfile converter to get the flash commands
add the fastboot reboot fastboot commands if you have a fasbootd device.
Flash Option 2

Yeah, I've heard this is risky, but I'm willing to take the risk because Android 11 ruined my phone and basically added 3 or 4 years to the battery of a phone that I only had for 7 months and was working great before this crap.
And once again, Thanks for this help. I appreciate it very much, even if it doesn't work.
And I had a question before I proceeded. There was an update that came along with Android 11 from Motorola on that same day. The update basically changed my look screen, peek display. Doing all this should get rid of that too and make everything look how it did before the update?

Update> Currently I recommend this method only for unbrick, if you are going to change regions or install stock use this new method: Here
>> Need bootloader unlocked <<
If you want to unbrick or flash stock, you must download the package corresponding to your device and RUI version
1. Download the .zip package and extract the .ofp file
Packages:IndiaRUI 2.0 Android 11 A.07: DownloadRUI 3.0 Android 12 C.03: Download---------------EuropeRUI 2.0 Android 11 A.06: DownloadRUI 3.0 Android 12 C.02: Download---------------ChinaRUI 2.0 Android 11 A.06: Download---------------Russia, Middle East, Africa, Latin America, and other regionsRUI 2.0 Android 11 A.02: DownloadRUI 3.0 Android 12 C.02: Download---------------
2. Download and Install OppoRealme-OFP-Flash Tool: Here
3. Place the extracted .ofp file in the same folder as the program.
4. Run OppoRealme-OFP-Flash
5. When running if you have placed only one .ofp file in the folder it will automatically select it.
6. Choose the region you want to install, if you don't know you can search on google country code, or go in automatic mode by adb (if your cell phone isn't bricked).
7. Then it will ask if you want to keep some partitions (if you're doing it for bootloader lock you can't keep any).
8. Accept the terms and then plug the device into fastboot mode.
9. Done!
Note: after this process if you want to lock the bootloader, restart again in fastboot mode and type the command "fastboot flashing lock"
At last! Thank you! Will try it as soon as I have some free time to do it!
One quick question please. So let's say I want to go from Europe to India rom. I need to unlock bootloader and start the process you described. Do I need to take backup any partition in order not to lose IMEI or something? And after flashing to relock bootloader only type "fastbook flashing lock"? Some people were saying there is no official method to relock the bootloader again that's why I'm asking.

almost that, you don't lose the imei, you lock the bootloader I've already tested and proven it, but I don't recommend doing it without the rom that comes on your device.if you want to test, but it can happen hardbrick.

You mean lock the bootloader with the rom that my device has already? So if it's europe it has to stay europe and do the lock if I understand correctly.

That's right, I don't know if blocking with a system from another region would work, it could even work, but it's risky to test, only if you have 10usd to pay for the hard unbrick.

Listen, the thing is that I wouldn't even bother to test another rom. I already have made a thread here asking for some help because I have problem with incoming caller ID on 4G/5G with VoLTE enabled. Since no solution has been found, even after contacting Realme, the next thing to try was another (stock always) rom to see if it would work. If I would try to change rom I have to be VERY careful because there are absolutely NO service centers of Realme in my country. That's why I'm asking these questions. I want to know how safe is to "transfer" from another rom and if it is posible to return to my stock rom again with locked bootloader.

It's with my tool, it's totally safe, and it's easy to return to your region of origin, she has some protection so that nothing serious happened.

Thank you man. Totally appreciate your effort. Just to be clear one last time. You can do w/e test you want by changing roms/regions with unlocked BL and then after if you want to return your phone to what it was from factory you flash again your initial rom and lock BL.

correct
great work thank you
Sorry if I may ask for clearer steps. The steps is kinda vague like you did not mention anything that need to be prepared from the device. And, if we change to another region rom, do we get future OTA official update form realme? Thank you in advance.
