Pre-Order UK phone for use in US? - Sony Xperia XZ Premium Questions & Answers

Anyone know if I order the chrome color phone from the UK store, if it will work on ATT in the US properly?

It's got AT&T covered except for one frequency: band 30. I'm on ATT in Texas and my unlocked phones work fine here without that band. Get very good download speeds and coverage here. I preordered the Chrome one. Of course your mileage may vary.

Where did you order the chrome from? Clove doesn't carry it

I ordered from Unlocked Mobiles ( https://www.unlocked-mobiles.com/ ) at the beginning of May. At that time, they had both Chrome and Black listed for preorder with initial inventory arriving on 5/22/2017. About the middle of May Unlocked Mobiles removed the Chrome option and changed their ETA to 6/2/2017. Unlocked customer service said they'll be able to fill all preorders for the Chrome and that Sony UK asked them to pull the Chrome variant from pre-order. As it ends up, the Chrome is now an exclusive with Carphone Warehouse:
https://www.carphonewarehouse.com/s...0517#!colour=chrome&capacity=64GB&dealType=pm
So far no changes or delays on my order, so hopefully I'll be receiving good news soon.

If you pre-ordered from AT&T, here's what you need to know.

Hey guys, AT&T employee here. The other thread ran on so long that I thought I'd share what I've found out from my higher ups.
Preorders will start shipping the 23rd, however the S4s are officially on back order, at least in my market (Georgia-Carolinas). This is why it is showing the 30th as that is what at&t has predicted to be a worst case scenario.
Preordering is on a first come first serve basis, HOWEVER this basis is market dependent, meaning that someone from another market may have ordered after you may get it before you. Markets range in size and availability greatly. For instance, my market encompasses North and South Carolina along with Georgia, whilst there are markets for areas as a small as Dallas Texas. I have no way of checking to see if other markets are on backorder.
Since the phone will release in stores the 26th, though some stores with back orders may not have them until later, I do not recommend canceling your preorder to get one in store. Most stores will receive small initial shipments that will run out quickly (all of our stores locally have ran out of HTC ones, so I can only imagine how the s4 will sell). So I do not recommend canceling your preorder to get one in store potentially earlier unless you can wait at opening for the store to open that has confirmed it will have phones available on that day. Pre-orders will be fulfilled before store needs, so know that you will be taken care of before customers that haven't.
If you have any questions let me know!
mine always said it would ship on april 30th. i expect to have it by early may as i paid for overnight. since your an employee i have a question. how come at&t gave the pricing for the 32gb models but they have no idea when they will release them?

We aren't sure if the 32 gig models will be available at launch and we aren't sure why the higher ups did that.
HOWEVER, if the 32 gig is available at launch and you pre-ordered the 16 gig version, you CAN take your un-opened phone package and swap it out for a 32 gig and just pay the difference in price. Just make sure you do not open the box to even look at the phone and that you go to a corporate store, not a 3rd party retailer.

As far as my information goes from multiple managers, the phone launches in STORES the 26th. It would ship the 23rd because at&t uses multiple carriers (UPS, Fedex amongst one or two others) to ship. Even with free shipping, it takes an average of 3 business days to reach you amongst those carriers.
However, due to backorder concerns, they are listing the 30th as a worst case scenario. We are getting overwhelmed with preorders for the phone. I myself have preordered it.

Based on my previous experience with ATT online orders, all phones came in with their boxes open and seals broken; sim cards removed from the holders and placed in the sim slot. I was told that warehouse technician usually check the phone before shipping out.
I guess since you are an employee, you have no need to order online but buy from store inventory.
We never buy from store inventory. It's bad salesmanship as with the way our commission works, any changes on the account like equipment changes from insurance claims in the first 6 months can result in what are called "charge backs", or lost commission and a slap on the wrist from your store manager. Also, unless you're getting an iphone, the sim card shouldn't be already in the phone 0_o..
Guess ill be waiting in front of my local ATT store.. not taking a chance at pre-ordering online to be backorderd
Make sure they'll have it, otherwise that'd be a dumb move.
Any idea what it means when I check my order status online and all it says is "processing" with no expected ship date? I ordered the day after pre orders started. Thanks in advance!

Hm. Iphones ship to us in store with the sims already in the phone. That's why you see any number on there starting with 8901...
Main reason why I say they shouldn't open the box is because that instantly creates an at&t restocking fee of 35$. Box unopened = no restocking fee.
On my order form the sim card and the galaxy s4 are separate. Same for anyone else?

Please help ? Off-Contract purchase

I live in Lebanon, Middle East. My friend is currently in NY for few days, so can't have to wait for the phone to arrive in few weeks from Google. How can I basically purchase the phone unlocked from a retailer on the go? Can I buy it from Sprint or T-Mobil being unlocked and Sim Free? If not, what are the other ways? Please anyone? Only few days left for his arrival LOL !
its not in any other retailer at this time

The ones sold in the US are North America version, especially the LTE bands and isn't 100% compatible with the ones sold in other regions - like Asia & Europe as those bands (radios) are tuned differently.
My suggestions is that you find and ask ANOTHER friend going somewhere else in the Euro zone to buy one for you, assuming that it is not available or for sale at your location or home country.
As for trying to buy it in retail store, Sprint is supposed to have them in their local USA stores tomorrow (or later) but there could be a waiting list and you will be paying an extra surcharge for it + taxes - there's another thread about the higher prices (around $450 USD is what I recalled vs. $350 in Google Play Store) - that is if they will sell it without contract or activation.
No news yet as to whether T-Mobile USA will be selling them directly, most likely - later on, it will for a premium surcharge, similar to Sprint prices - without contract.
Nexus 5 are shipped from the LG unlocked - carriers do NOT lockup the Sim functions for their network only.

Thanks for your valuable reply, really saves a ton of asking and research. To be honest I am willing to pay the extra charge to get my Nexus 5, since later on, when the phone arrives to my Country, it's going to match this exact price if not even more, which is like 600 USD for the 16 gb.
The only gamble is, if it's gonna work in my Country or not. My friend is going to buy two unlocked iPhones from NY already, is it almost the same gamble case? of it working in Asian/Middle East region or not ? ( Btw he works at one of the two carriers in Lebanon )

It is possible that they will have it at retailers tomorrow. Sprint, Best Buy and RadioShack would be good places for your friend to check. The phone will work, aside from possibly LTE. It is also available for preorder on the Best Buy website and it ships tomorrow.

Basically, the Nexus 5 has 2 verisons as far as the radio/band or country compatability are concerned - the Americas and the Euro-Asia models, two different SKU's - the other is whether it is a 16GB or 32 GB model, color in black or white - simple.
Both model are unlocked from the factory for quadbands (GPRS/2G/Edge Speed) including the 2100 Mhz band popularly used in Asia, so the US ones will work in your country at the "slower" data speed - but most likely not the so called 4G/LTE. For the average users, the 3G and HSPA+ compatability is more complex but depending on your cellular provider's network towers, speed can be just as fast.
In "third-world" or undeveloped countries with basic mobile networks, speed isn't your major concern - just basic coverage & a good signal.
As for the iPhone 5c and 5s, we don't use them but some of the nieces & nephews have them and use them - if your friend is buying them from the Apple store, they should be able to help him/her select the best model to bring overseas to use at your home country. There are different models and you want to match it as closely as possible. Here's a link to Apple's ITE coverage on different models sold, and the ITE bands used - you should reference it and perhaps alert your friend via email, look up a compatible carrier that you match yours. http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/
I know that the last time I was shopping & looking around for an unlocked GSM phone in Asia, the store sales people were helpful & making sure that I understood what they have & support are aimed at the local market with the proper radio bands, and that they cannot guarantee that it will work in the U.S. once I bring it back - returning it and exchanging it are out of the questions or very expensive to do. It will work but mobile data speed could & would likely be lowered.
Of course, if you are using WiFi or broadband signal at home or at work or in the universities with ultra fast connections most of the time - then you might find it acceptable given the cost savings. We have super fast fiber optics (Fios) connections and are reliable and having 4G LTE and/or HSPA+ enabled and working are just extra bonuses at our local price point - $350 USD for 16GB - with taxes & shipping, came to less than $400 still.
Good luck !

Where to purchase the S7 unlocked?

I'm looking to purchase the S7 at full price without any catch. I was looking into T-Mobile but need to purchase a plan with the phone and needs to be activated for 40 days for them to unlock it.
Apparently US Cellular has the lowest price currently; are they known to lock bootloaders? I use Cricket so I only need a phone that uses AT&T network if I can't sim unlock it.
Cricket has finally added a banner to their website for the S7. No details yet if they will have them on launch day or not, price should be the same as anywhere. https://www.cricketwireless.com/samsung-galaxy-s7.html

you could try clove or handtec. ships from UK. I've done this for the xperia series before and they worked perfect on ATT. Clove has mention of samsung locking their phones since 2013 though. May want to read everything carefully and make sure you know what you're getting into. I really wanted to do this as well. I hate the ATT bloatware. ATT address book and yellow pages drive me insane!

Whats time to Release?

Everybody know when Zen 3 Ultra release?
Asus hasn't provided information regarding the availablity, but you could expect it to be available in Q3.
At the website Tweakers they talk about august, september. One thing i like with Samsung is that afther a presentation, the phone is some weeks later in the stores. I want a Zen 3 Ultra now!!!
If the unit comes in August or September , it should identify in which cases Asus has just cut back .

I want this phone too, but i'm worried about band comparability with t-mobile. Band 12 specifically, looking at this and the zte axon 7.
Asia first on 12 july :s
http://m.gsmarena.com/asus_zenfone_...ultra_to_go_on_sale_next_month-news-19107.php
From the asus website specifications there looks to be a CN and WW version with different frequency bands.
I wonder if the 12th July date is just for a CN/TW version and the WW version will be later on?
This looks like the phone for me. I had no problem with the size of my 7" Huawei X1 but software was terrible and reception flaky, my Sony UltraZ 6.4" has been fine but after using a 7" screen everything else seems too small. Hope it hits the Australian market soon.
6.8-inch ZenFone 3 Ultra will be released on July 27.
Asus plans to start with shipments of the ZoneFone 3 model to Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, and by August will ship all models to the three markets as well as to Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand.
Shipment will later be expanded to Japan, Italy and the United States.

You can order the 3GB/32GB version now, dispatch: ships between Aug 18 - Aug 20 I wait for 4GB/64GB, but still in arrival notice
I've just got mine yesterday in Malaysia. The phone is a perfect replacement for my Sony Xperia Z Ultra, as they share similar dimensions and weights, yet the screen is much larger and the speaker sounds awesome!
Finally one site that ships internationally has Ultras on sale. DealExtreme, about $640, all three colors, only 4GB/64GB version. I think it's the international/non-Chinese version. For mysterious reasons, the gray color is more expensive than other two.
Note that you might not be able to combine your phone order with any other article because they seem to keep stuff in various warehouses and can't collect it into a single shipment. You can only combine Ultra with stuff that has their internal code starting with 852. So far they seem not to have any additional matching items like cases or screen protectors.

Clove-sold S8's aren't pre-orders. We've bought and paid for one when they receive stock. I'd imagine it'll be first come first serve from the stock they receive. The UK launch date is April 28 so I'd assume UK resellers will start receiving stock a week ahead. So ours could be shipped out some time next week potentially. But it all depends on when Clove receives stock (and how much) which could be as late as launch day (April 28). I hope I get it before my 14 day return is up for the AT&T S8+ I pre-ordered. Clove is pretty communicative so I'm sure they'll keep us updated.

Good to know, thanks for the update. I know it's technically not a preorder as it deducted the payment immediately however wasn't sure about stock levels or shipment dates. I've seen a lot of rumors around items being sent around the 19th I'm the UK.
A few retailers and some networks in the UK are offering the phone 8 days earlier than the official release date of 28th April. The 28th is when all places will have stock, which also applies to places like Amazon UK. The 8 day thing is just an irritating marketing ploy which favours some places who probably agree to promote the brand over another.

The big resellers and wireless carriers that have deep relationships with Samsung will mostly abide by the rules Samsung applies. Others will be a bit more renegade. The problem with shipping them early is Samsung's support won't be fully prepared to deal with inquiries. Samsung's UK site doesn't even have the manual available yet.

That is true. Anyway, Clove is one of my preferred companies and I have used them for about 10 years now.
First time using clove and seems like so far the experience is good. If it is, I will stick to them as they have the phone even cheaper than the US options which isn't bad for some of the software trades off. Regardless, seems like we won't be getting ours until the first week of may. They need to get the stock, then open to make the 5 minute call. Then close it back and ship it out to us. Im expecting mine the week of may 5th

The "U" versions of the S7-series Samsung sold weren't all they were cracked up to be. Devs sniffing around in the code found that the ROM was really the T-Mobile version with T-Mobile's proprietary stuff stripped out. But T-Mobile was referenced numerous times in the code. Samsung also totally neglected them update wise. AT&T got nougat out before Samsung did for the U's. It's still not out. So basically you'll be getting a carrier phone with the carrier stuff removed or hidden and no updates. And still no HD Voice or NumberSync if you're on AT&T. You're better off going for a "real" unlocked "F" from a region that gets regular updates. Only downside of an F over a U is the lack of U.S. warranty support.
And I believe the F has Exynos and U Snapdragon... With the phones unusual requirement of a UK Sim to unlock, once the procedure has been completed, are we sure to get updates even while on a non-UK network?

Yes we'll get the updates. When I have the international s7 edge from Singapore, I flashed firmwares from any country that got updates first via Odin.

Updates aren't carrier dependent, they're directly from Samsung. So any time BTU S8's get updated we'll get updated. I have a Singaporean NotePRO 12 that's 2 years old with an AT&T SIM in it that just received an update last week. It surprised me because Samsung disowns their devices after a year to 18 months.
Just a heads up, if you ordered from Clover Tech they are stating they don't expect any stock until the 28th. Kinda sucks as I pre-ordered from them being in the US and all I didnt have much of a choice for the Eyxnos variant anyways. Other suppliers in UK are already shipping but it looks like Clover is not a supplier such as Very, Samsung themselves and carriers.
It sucks but to be fair it is clearly stated on the product page. Looks like we will get it around may 4th. They are talks that Best Buy will carry the U version on the 9th but nothing official yet.
If the phone releases on the 28th in the UK, wouldn't shipment be he wet of the 4th? Think DHL will have it to us by end of week that week?

OP and I are in the US and Clove expects to ship no earlier than friday the 28th, so we can't get it before early May. That's assuming it ships on the first day. They also have to unlock all international orders prior to shipping.
As stated above. Clove unfortunately won't have stock until the 28th and at that , the guy i spoke to used the word 'hopefully' so he didn't exactly fill me with confidence that he will definitely have stock on the 28th! I reckon we will have our phone in the first week of may at best and thats hoping clove receive enough stock otherwise some of us may not receive our phones until the following week
I already canceled my US bound order because i was afraid of having to return it to the UK due to the red tint screen. According to a Best Buy employee, they will sell the unlocked version late april or early may (BH photo has it as an overpriced preorder for early may delivery as well), so it will probably not make a big difference on the delivery date... I've also read on the best buy product Q&A (granted it is far from being an official source) that Samsung will update the unlocked version monthly instead of quarterly like on the S7.

I am on the verge of having mine canceled from Clove.
They recently e-mailed my wife, whom paid for the phone as a birthday gift, stating that they'd need further verification when she already went through some to actually charge the card on a UK based website to begin with (obviously not Clove's fault, but it was an annoyance nonetheless). They e-mailed her stating that they need a specific authorisation code from the card issuer, as there's a unique one for every transaction, to continue the order. With the phone releasing 2 days from now, it stands to reason that I will not be receiving the phone any time soon since they've started this b.s. My wife's gone through her bank and they have no authorisation code to give her, and only told her to tell Clove that they can contact them if they need any further verification. The card has already been charged, and it appears on a statement too.. why wait until 2 days before the phone releases to send an e-mail stating that they need further proof? Sounds like bull**** they've conjured up because they don't have the supply for the amount of preorders they received.
Complete bollocks I reckon. If they don't reply back and nothing happens in 2 days, I'm going to get my wife to cancel it and buy it somewhere else. This sort of shotty/shady business is distasteful.
