My first Q is is there any chance that anyone got his phone from Gearbest?
I noticed they have the phone on a good price for $500 (with coupon), but they also say that This smart phone is designed only to work with the current Android OS installed in it. Any alterations such as OTA updates will void the warranty.
Does anyone here can guess why is that? Is it possible that the ROM on the phone is a ROM they flashed before shipping the phone? because this doesnt make sense, and I couldnt find any place that sell that phone for $500 internationally.
They always say that because they want any reason to get out of a warranty. Most people that change the time accept the risk and do not expect warranty if you brick.
I myself have purchased from Gearbest and Banggood in the past. I like Banggood better. I think I'm done with Gearbest, two packages totally lost. Get insurance if you do buy and make sure it comes with tracking.

Changing the ROM I bricking the phone I agree. But they are not talking about only changing ROM. I asked them about this and they said that even OTA updates from Huawei itself will void warranty.
Unfortunately, Banggood and Geekbuying both have the phone with a price close to or more than $600 and its not even the global version, so GB is the only sensible option if I want a good price
Doesn't make sense as an update that comes to your phone is not considered breaking a warranty.
I bought my phone locally on CL and do not have a warranty. I actually have never had a warranty on any of my phone's and never needed one. The only time I used one was for my girlfriend's iPhone...lol because those are junk to me.
Sent from my MHA-L29 using Tapatalk
Yep, according to the answer they gave me, even an update coming to your phone is considered breaking a warranty. But I read here about ppl updating the phone (OTA) and then they encounter bugs and stuff so I can ssume thats why they dont want to take any responsibility over it. I dont change ROMS anymore so there's no chance in bricking the phone. I guess I just have make sure the phone works properly before applying any OTA update. Insurance will cost me another $11
P.S
I asked them which model number is the phone, and they say they dont know... is that weird?
I didn't want to change the ROM either but had to as I found out I had the Chinese firmware and I rebranded to USA firmware.
I took a look and it's a really good price if your down to $500 for 4GB 64 GB version , I say go for it.

I have ordered the device but now I am wondering which model is it as they dont specify and although it says global version they dont say the exact number and I hope this is not a Chinese version. I asked them and they cant tell.
Could anyone try and guess according to the page specs which firmware is that? is it MHA-L29? MHA-L09? or other? EU version? Asia? US?

They wrote "Dual sim" in description, so it can not be L09.
They sell from HK - it should be Asian version, but I'm not sure on 100%
Can it be a MHA-AL00 Chinese variant? (i hope not)
and if its MAH L29? thats European version?

gearbest always has a sale on the phone. Last sale was $490. If you want the phone, I dont think you can find a better price ATM. I didnt root it and I dont feel the need to. A few days ago the phone received firmware b172 OTA

So I went in to best buy today to have them flash my phone back to stock. I had talked with the guy the other night for a while and he was pretty open to helping me out no matter what. I left my phone with him while I looked around. When I came back he said that the sock firmware was flashed and that the updates were installing now. I asked what updates and he told me that since my phone came with MDL that is what was installed and that the updates had to be installed to bring it current. I asked him if he could have stopped the process before the updates and he said he could have if his boss wasnt there. He said that Verizon has a single package that won't allow this but that it's possible with att.
That would definitely explain why AT&T hasn't made the MF 3 updates available via kies yet
Just thought I would throw this out there in case it helps the effort somehow.
I'm kind of out of the loop on this latest update and Best Buy stuff. Why are people going to Best Buy to flash phone back to stock. How come ya'll don't just use ODIN to go back to stock?
I bought my phone the first day it was released. But I can flash AMDL with ODIN.
Once you update to MF3 you cant downdrade to MDL using ODIN or Kies and there is no image that will work with ODIN or Kies for MF3

The day I got my AT&T branded s4 before the clerk handed it to me he said that he updated it for me wish he wouldn't have. I didn't know best buy could flash the firmware. Would be nice to revert so I could flash.

Well the only way that would work is if they flashed MDL with a different bootloader...just like Att most of these best buy people have NO idea what they are really doing,
Samsung provides them a program and they just press some buttons...in the beginning it seemed like every best buy had to call Samsung and have Samsung walk them through the process

The official mf3 update came with a new bootloader which blew a qfuse that makes it impossible to flash anything lower than mf3 ...problem is we don't have an mf3 image to use for Odin, and than Samsung gave best buy a special program that allows them to reflash mf3 firmware

All I can tell you is that the Samsung rep told me it flashed MDL and then updated to MF3. I have no way to verify that so it's entirely possible he was blowing smoke.

Could you just go back and ask him to reflash back to MDL for you? Just tell him you'll update on your own or just take the sim out when he flashes so it won't update itself.

well, I am under a license suspension so it may be a bit b4 i can get out to a bestbuy,
But i have been calling samsung, and att customer support numbers, even live chatting. On every occasion, I have been told it's not possible to perform a downgrade. No reasons givin just it's not possible. Was even offered to send the phone to samsung for a free flash of firmware. Which when i asked which version it would be, I was told the latest.
Don't worry I will keep at it lol it's kinda fun messing with support

Just dont do anything that may cause you to loose your job, would hate to see that happen. Looking for information on flashing tools, or procedures used by tech support, not ppl at best buy but when you send it to samsung, or the provider. Any kinda of info would be nice, like names of software/tools etc.

My only thought is (from what i read in other forums and possibly here as well) that its not possible (qfuse and such). But i will see whats the dealio with their stuff.
Im not gonna attempt to lose it. I'm Curious. I have an S4 so this directly would effect me as well. I know everyday i see people getting phones updated via ODIN/Download mode. They always say its quicker.
And honestly MF3 isn't so bad now that theres an alternative with Safestrap from Hashcode. But i can understand the potential of having a full bootloader unlock.
No can do. The software will not go below the latest. There Is no option for it either. It only shows MF3 available.

I'll keep that in mind. I would really like to get an S4, but I'm way too scared it'll come with MF3. Just feels like the odds of MF3 models ever seeing Kit Kat are very slim at this rate. Hopefully the 4.3 update that's scheduled to come out soon leads to new exploits though.

Do like I did & go to your good old local Walmart & ask them if they have one on MDL. When I got mine a week ago, the guy checked for me & all of the ones that he had were on MDL. They're cheaper at Walmart also. I paid like $135 ($65 cheaper than the AT&T store) & they threw in a $40 Walmart gift card.

Hey guys
So I read around a bit before deciding to pick this thing up. I live in Denmark, and was due to this a bit curious if the device would work with my network or not. All the bands were as they should be for use in Europe, only thing that scared me was reading about one guy from India who had trouble (think it was in one of the Reddit AMAs).
However, I just got it today and it works perfectly here. I'm on 3's network. In case anyone else were wondering the same as me. It's the unlocked version picked up from bestbuy.
So for the sake of other potentially interested international users, maybe the ones of us who got one could share their experience, since it seems it can go both ways?
I use it on O2 network in germany, no probnlem.

just thinking to rebrand because of this
I read somewhere that unfortunately the networks need to approve the updates before they're pushed out as well which obviously adds more to the process. It's so ridiculous that Huawei chose to work this way with the UK model.
In the same boat myself, thinking of debranding.
Not totally sure if after de-branding you'll need another code to unlock again if the bootloader locks down.
If that's the case and they stop the codes then you'll end up without the ability to unlock the phone again.

Also.. Does this effect the LTE frequencies used or VoLTE and WiFi calling that are sometimes specific to particular regions?

Oooh I don't think I'd get the pixel 2 mate.
Why not debrand your p20 and give it a chance, better things are coming im certain of that, I mean I hop between devices usually once a year or more because I get bored so fast so I know what you mean but I think it'd be too soon to commit to another phone. Unless you can cover the entire cost of the device.
People in the US may buy it, I'd grab an unlock code just in case too :good:
If your hearts set on a pixel, wait for the three, you'll hate having the 2 the second you see their new one. There's quite a difference between them.

Yes that's right since 5.0 just make sure info all correct and product ID etc I did mine this morning and got it first time should work , hopefully this won't be the case and they will change there minds on this silly idea they will loose a lot of sales I think in future surely that's not good business sense

Someone will find a method to generate the code or to unlock bootloader without the code, just wait
There is a way all ready some tool you can purchase for a fee but it's a right long winded way, I'm sure they will change there view once sales decline lol

I N checked the info and still dosent work, same msg..
I wanted the code just in case, not to use it now, but i cant get it..
I was about to buy this phone or a Huawei p20... Not being able to root or flashing a custom recovery makes this a no go for me.....
Edit:
Do you guys it is still worth it to get the Honor 10?

Was planning to ask for the unlock code, but....
"Unlocking the bootloader may result in unpredictable consequences for your device, including but not limited to those listed above. The user shall be held responsible in the event that the device malfunctions and cannot be recovered. Huawei will record your unlock request information; for software and hardware failures arising as a result of unlocking the bootloader, Huawei repair centers can provide repair services charged at the standard rate for repair work outside the scope of the warranty."
I'll prefer paying for an unlock app if I decide i need to one day, rather than losing my warranty for a code I'll probably never use.
If the hardware in your device starts malfunctioning - doesn't matter if 3rd party rom caused it, or if you even ever used a 3rd party rom...
chance is: huawei is going to put the blame on a 3rd party rom.
Wouldn't Huawei be better off if they kept offering the unlock codes? That way, if somebody screws up their device,
Huawei will know it's registered as an unlocked device and will not have to repair it for free
Guess they didn't think it through properly.
They stop the process of offering the codes because many people bricked their phone in the flashing/unlocking procedure and i think it were many complaints about this. So they think its a saftey measure.
I don't think requesting the code voids warranty I had a honor 9 lite that I applied for the code never actually used it had an issue later on were it would keep randomly re booting and switching off when used camera was replaced no issue under the 2 year warranty

After they get their code and try roms and sh*t they brick their phone, not prior to that
Your warranty is voided after you use the code, its not like at Xioami, the bootloader will pe RELOCKED, not locked. So they can see that you used it.
I still cant get it, so i just stoped trying.
well the disclaimer is clear. when they "think" its caused by rooting (even if you never did) then you might have bo warranty because they can see who asked for the unlock code.
---
like those ppl who have malfunctioning hardware in phone, a phone that absolutely never got wet,
send it to repair and receive the message that "their phone got wet, repair will cost 90% of original price and if they want phpne back unrepaired then they need to pay 50$ for inspection and shipping costs...
their word against yours
Hi all,
I think enough time has passed for those on EE to get an update, absolutely no sign whatsoever and not entirely sure where or who will be providing the update; has any one has success updating yet?
I'm currently on 9.5.1 and system updates fail constantly.
Is there an option to root and install a custom ROM?I'd rather do that then wait for EE/Oneplus.

I have tweeted the same question and EE responded with "The updates will come from OnePlus". I think you can flash the regular OnePlus 7 Pro ROM on the 5G variant but I think 5G functionality will be lost.

I've just had a lengthy (about 1h30m) chat to OnePlus and they were totally useless. I saved the chat history as a lot of the things were basically - reboot the phone, wipe cache and then finally erase everything; although I knew these steps would not work and I explained I had already tried that I done it anyway just to satisfy his requests.
Afterwards he pretty much said "Ah well, nothing more we can do then"
I find it hard to believe that between EE and OnePlus no body has the answer?

Mines updated to 9.5.3 on release day 30/5/19 nothing since 4g up to 9.5.7 with camera improvements yet us mugs who bought the best one going getting left behind
Sooner the exclusive deal comes to an end the better
Upgrade it to a international model and ditch EE tweaked rom

While that is a possibility, why pay more to have 5G when we'd be losing 5G functionality if we convert to an international model.

I'm still on 9.5.1 and it won't update to 9.5.3. I haven't tried the Oxygen updater; I'll give that a go!

Tried Oxygen updater and still no joy, unfortunately!
What does it say? Up to date or just update failing?.
Just failing still ?. Same error message as always
Seems to me that OnePlus has pulled the update for some reason.
Mine updated to 5.3 when I first set it up.
Not really had to many issues with mine, no ghost touches or anything. All I've had is the odd crash on nova launcher when exiting my banking app for some reason but other than that not much to complain about.
That being said I would like to see the camera updates that are being talked about in 5.7 as these are supposed to make a significant difference to the pictures.

Bloody strange... Surely if it's failing to update its defective.
I just find it hard to believe its a flagship device and know one knows what the hell is going on.

There are also people on the EE forums with the same problem.
I'm sure EE knows what's up here, but reaching the "right people" there is probably very hard.
It's a phone with essentially a "Beta" radio, using effectively "Beta towers", and I bet that they're gating the updates, carefully, based on that fact.
In time, I'm sure this will "smooth out", as 5G becomes a bit more proliferated, but right now, if you have a 5G phone, you're effectively a "Beta Tester", IMO, even IF the carrier doesn't "sell it" like that...
It's too bad they didn't abstract the builds a bit more, across the OP7, OP7 Pro (several variants), and the OP7 Pro 5G.
I bet OP will do some work here, as things evolve, to "limit" this issue. It's possible too, that they already did this, and EE "botched things", in terms of the carrier-development side, good luck figuring that out though, or getting anyone to admit it...
I returned my phone to EE as it wouldn't update (just said it was up to date, but on 9.1) and I started suffering numerous ghost touches and random crashes.
Unless Op / EE get this sorted, I suspect I'll go to 3 when they launch 5g in August

Yeah, it's a **** state of affairs. How long ago did you get the phone, on day of launch?
Oh, just as side note. I searched on Google for days for an answer and nothing came up. One search on Duck Duck Go and the second and 3rd post are full of people with the exact same problem.
Yes, I got mine on launch day. Gave it the befit of the doubt she allowed 3 days to get an update- nothing turned up and it was pretty un-useable due to the ghost touches.
That's when I told them to take it back
