MOTO Z PLAY droid DEVELOPMENT - Moto Z Play ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, & Other Dev

Is there any one working on anything in terms of the moto z play droid? Is there a root bounty? It kinda seems like this epic phone has been forgotten
Sent from my XT1635-01 using Tapatalk

The Z play Droid has a locked bootloader last I have seen, so there is no root, TWRP or development. You got Stock and more than likely will always only have Stock.

Im aware of the locked bootloader. . Im not new to xda. Previously had a droid turbo.. was just hoping someone was working on root or an unlock for us mzp droid users like we had on the turbo

If you're not new to XDA you should know that this is not the section to post a thread like this.

Well if ur in charge move it to the right section. ?

As you could see he is not a Moderator and this should have been under Questions and Answers... as that is what it is. But that is OK, it is a newbie mistake.

It's probably just a bugfix or maybe official ICS (I don't think they officially recieved ICS for that phone yet). Kinda miss my OG since it had an unlocked bootloader.
Probably just a GB security update.

there's no statement from moto nor anyone else that it would be ics/jb for the og, most people think it'll lock their bootloaders for good, like moto did to the electrify and other phones

Root help anyone

I made the jump in went to the Razr HD from my rooted/romd x, this phone is great but it would be better if I could rooted and do my own thing. I know there's a few root tools out there but I need to know what the right 1 is for my OS. I'm running ics 4.0.4 now. I just got the phone yesterday and I need to do this before I update to JB because I hear that it's a hard route to follow after the update. Can anyone point me in the right direction.?

Unlocking bootloader... Is it worth it?

Currently I use stock JB with a few tweaks like freezing apps... Nothing fancy. My phone feels snappy, fast and reliable. Are there perceivable benefits in those respective areas to be gained by unlocking bootloader and flashing developments that have surfaced since this capability?

For me its worth it if you root and install a custom rom. Unlocking the bootloader alone will not affect your phones performance unless you flash a recovery and a rom. But you can get so much more customization as well as performance boosts with any of the roms here. Ill never go back to a stock system.

Yeah its absolutely worth it. Great devs and the community is growing.

Even the beta developing that is going on makes it worth it. 4.2.x is a much better android and several people are working to make it work for us. unlocking gives you the ability to enjoy the fruits of their labour. Do it. If nothing else, you have true control over your device, with it to me.

Thanks y'all. Can anyone make a recommendation of the first rom to try after unlocking bootloader. I'm experienced flasher and I'm sure I'll scour the boards for my first project but a point in the right direction to help

I unlocked mine rooted it and flash what was available have my stock build safely stored away I am coming from HTC and GneX where there are plenty of guides and help in the community it's kinda confusing for me atm but am happy that it's beginning to take off look at the threads you can see the activity going on based on questionOn a side note you should have posted this in the Q&A s and answers Personally I would like to see more tutorials my knowledge of this device isn't so good that I understand it yet, going keep banging away at it and reading information I can fine .

I guess I'd say CM10.1 or AOKP which are posted in this forum, since most of the other roms are flavors of those, and trying those gave me an understanding of where the other roms are coming from. There are a number of nice CM10.1/AOKP variants available, like the Xenon one posted here, Carbon, Axiom (aka Codex), Pac Man, and Baked posted over at droid-hive. Pac Man is interesting because it also incorporates features from Paranoid Android. There isn't a working vanilla Paranoid Android port for this phone yet as far as I know.

Motorola has made the unlocking very "visible"
I'm already unlocked and running epinter's CM10.1 ROM (Android 4.2.2). I unlock and run CM primarily for wireless tethering.
Note that if you do unlock the bootloader, you will always be shown a Motorola designed splash screen at boot - the splash screen is visible for 3/4 seconds and informs anyone using the phone that the bootloader is unlocked and that the warranty is void. This is what you'll see - http://www.droid-life.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/razr-hd-bootloader-unlocked.jpg
I've had 2 Motorolas before this - the original Droid and the Atrix. If you unlocked the Droid, there was no telltale sign. On the Atrix, you briefly saw the word "Unlocked" in the upper left corner of the screen at boot. But on the RAZR HD, you get the elaborately designed screen.

I personally am on the AOKP posted in this forum. It has been very stable and the dev updates frequently and is quite active. He recently built an OC kernel in that took my device to 1.9ghz and as low as 192mhz. All around good ROM if you can live without camcorder.

That's a very helpful reply Hank, thanks so much for your participation.
arkas,
it appears the adam kernel is specifically for the intl S3, as I cannot find any other reference for it.
You have to admit Bob, you said what at least once reading that.
Arkas, this should be in the q&a section, maybe themes and apps but definitely not the development section. Hope you find what you are looking for.
Give me some M.O.A.R. because its the ?!
Try changing superuser.apk to something different. I know with time warner app it wouldn't work because of root. So changed it to just user.apk rebooted and it worked.

It appears that it works on my end but I'm on Verizon so ultimately there is no way for me to try on an international phone. Sky go was obtained through an alternative source because Google play says it was not "available" for download through play store.
Also I'm not entirely sure we're even talking about the same sky go since there were a couple available and op didn't offer up anything other than ramblings.
That sufficient Bob?

Totally agree, never start to do things without reading thoroughly first. Especially if it is your first Android phone. It's a bit easier if you already had Android phone before as many things are similar when comes the time to install custom recovery and flash new roms. I once hard-bricked a ****ty Samsung Galaxy Ace. It wasn't a big loss since it was just an old slow ugly Gingerbread phone but I was extra careful when I started modding the Moto X Play since it's a good middle range phone.

Do you need to get an unlock code from Motorola? There's something about that when you want to unlock the bootloader and whatnot, isn't there?
I haven't attempted to unlock and root mine yet, but I may do in future.
