Wifi+ battery drain? - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

Anyone know if enabling wifi+ is all that beneficial or is it just a battery drain thing?

It seems pretty good at keeping connection to the best server if you are in a location covered by more than one.
I used to need a separate app to do the same job.
I haven't noticed any heavy battery drain.

So it needs to have location enabled for it to work?

Hello guys!
I'm using the latest firmware in Spain - B182 with Google Play Services 11.0.55 and im noticing some heavy battery drain - Just Insane! Combined APP CPU is my number one battery sucker, this information is provided by Gsam Pro. The Consumption level of the phone itself says Google play Services uses 20% of the battery, phone idle and cell standby come with 15% each.
Please help me to sort out my problem. Can I go back to the 126 firmware? Although when i bought the phone ut was already on 156.

Sorry, I only just noticed your question.
It just looks at the local WiFi servers and connects to the best one. Nothing to do with GPS so it doesn't need Location to be on.

Excessive battery drain...

Dear All,
My N5 draws excessive battery when in standby mode (screen off). It usually ranges from 300-400mA per hour. I was usually getting only 2-10 mA on my N4. I installed the same apps on my N5 that I used on my N4. I'm not a sure if Google Search is constantly on. I disabled Google Now, Google Play Books,Google Play Magazines, Google Play Music, Google Hangouts, Google Newsstand. I'm using Battery Monitor Widget by 3C and 2X Battery - Battery Saver. The Battery Monitor to keep track of the discharge amounts. I am still getting 3.5-4.0 SOT though. Any ideas for common excessive battery drain on Kit Kat 4.4 / N5?
Is the battery monitor not using battery to do its job?

Of course it is but not 300-400mA drain. I've used Battery Monitor Widget since N4 with no problems. I'm just not sure which app will draining the battery. at the aforementioned mA.
I used the returns feature to resolve the battery drain.
Returns feature?

nobnut,
Please enlighten me on how the returns feature works and where it can be located on the phone.
Thanks.
What's wrong with the stock battery manager?
Do you have your WiFi or cellular data on for most of the time?
A live wallpaper?A app that's constantly on checking for any live updates perhaps?
Same apps as N4

My WiFi and cellular is automatically toggled to go on (screen on) or off (screen off) by the app 2X - Battery Saver. I used it on my N4 and I had no problems. I can't pinpoint which app is draining. Google Search is always 3rd on my list even when I don't use Google Now.

lol I think he meant that he returned the phone and got a replacement, or a different phone.
If you want to be very specific about what is causing your drain, then get BetterBatteryStats. If you're rooted, you will see under Alarms the specific service that is causing wakelocks. Most likely it is Google Play Services. The battery drain sucks. Turn off Location reporting in Google Settings (and also turn off remote location under Android Device Manager). Pretty sure that doing both is what helped me. But I went back because I am trying to see if Google Now is worth it. You should aim for 1% per hour idle drain and ~95% deep sleep

I'm not rooted but thinking about it. Google Play Services had been tamed. What I did miss was the Android Device Manager. I just disabled it and see what happens in a few minutes when phone is left idle. Location Reporting I knew about before so I turned it off when I just got my N5. I'm at 1% every 15 minute interval. I was at 1% for 4hrs. at idle when I was using the N4 but not anymore.
1% per 15 is still way too much. Post your BBS log here. Charge and unplug your phone. Leave your phone idle for a while. Then post the log here. You don't have to be root

Is Google Location Reporting the hidden battery Vampire?

Hi Guys,
I'm a casual user and usually get 2 days out of my battery with roughly 1-2 hours of screen time. I manage my wifi/data and have, "battery saver," mode set in my location settings.
A few days ago, my battery was on 70% when I went to bed. I awoke in the middle of the day and realised that my alarm had not gone off. The phone had turned off and when I turned it on, the battery was down at 3% and Google Search had consumed the battery.
Having a look around to find any possible reason, I stubbled on the, "Location Reporting," settings which were both on. I've now turned these both off and my battery life seems to loose 25% per day rather than the usual 50% per day.
What are your experiences with Location Reporting Settings and Battery Life?
Thanks.
Edit: just done another cycle and I am certainly 10 to 20 better battery wise than with location reporting on.
I'd say no, as it doesn't affect me and I have mine on high accuracy. I am 100% stock (not even unlocked bootloader) and haven't changed any settings away from default in any app I have installed (which isn't many)
Mine has always been on high accuracy. I've used 18% of my battery in the last 10 hours. I would check your navigation isn't running.

I don't think OP is referring to the high accuracy setting, but the google location reporting menu below.
I have them both off from the beginning, frankly I don't know if it makes any impact to the batttery life.
I think it does make somewhat of a difference. If I turn it off I can squeeze out maybe 20-30mins of extra screen on time. Mind you, I am a heavy user and sometimes I run into deadspots so take that for what its worth.

Ever since I updated to the latest google play services (4.5.1 I think) battery drain issued have been solved.

YES. I turned off both Location History and Location Reporting and my phone has way less wakelocks and battery usage. But just leave the regular location setting on High Accuracy...
Your phone will last forever!
I've run my phone with Location History and Reporting and Google Now on. What I noticed was many more wakelocks at the end of the day but with surprisingly little difference in actual battery usage. It has gotten much much better IME as far as actual battery toll.

That's weird I'm on 4.1.32 (just checked). Maybe try installing latest gapps package? I had problems with cataclysm ROM in December. Then a new play services update came out and no more wake locks.

Thanks for looking, I'm on stock 4.4.2. What prompted me to look at my settings was just the random chronic battery drain. Google keep saying they have fixed things and they appear to be right. Then out of nowhere, I get a random drain. It's happened 3 times now meaning I get to work hours late....
Google collects anonymous location data from your phone even when location reporting and history are turned off (also did it when on device only mode).
It caused a lot of wake locks for me. I've found a way to still be able to use the GPS without all the wake locks. Simply switch off location totally, then reenable but disagree to the Google terms. Phone sleeps all the time now.
However I'm not quite sure how much battery these wake locks consume and if it's worth losing the instant location access and Google Now features. That's why I'm running my phone this way for a couple of days to test the battery life both with ART and Dalvik to see, if it makes a difference and how big that difference is.
Btw, I also only have Play Services 4.1.32. Does that depend on which region we live in? I would also like to see, if 4.5 would make the battery life better...

Services went to 4.2.40 last night. I'm still going to run without the location reporting on to see if I can get longer than my usual 2 days.
Would be nice to get hear from another nexus 4/5 user who in the past has had location reporting on and has now turned it off.

Hm, I still have the same old version. Would it be dangerous to sideload an updated version of Play Services? Is that even possible?

My updated version came via an update of the search or maps app. I don't know about side loading or how you would get hold of the apk.
So does the update improve the battery life or not? It's really a placebo at best during the big update.

I'd say I've seen no difference. However, consistent battery life is important to me even if not that good. The real killer is when something like Google search decides to eat my battery in the course of a night.
I've read in other threads that if you don't have quality LTE in your area, the phone uses up mucho battery, trying to maintain/improve the LTE connection (searching for better LTE service). But those with quality LTE service don't have such issues.

Doesn't seem to matter what network you are on, 3g/4g, if your phone is searching for the signal all of the time, your battery will take a real hammering.

[BIG] Battery drain

hi everybody, since one or two weeks i see i have a big battery drain when my phone is "inactive"... how to resolve this please?
Your screenshot doesn't tell us anything. Further debugging can be found using BetterBatteryStats / Gsam / Wakelock Detector, root is required.
A app is preventing your phone from deep sleeping.
The only thing your screenshot does show us is that Play Services is there, http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/guide-google-play-services-battery-t2832525
View that to fix that but theres definitely more to it than Play Services.

I don't understand your question. In actuality, it takes a couple days for your phone to settle in the new kernel if thats what you're asking.
As long as your phone is properly deep sleeping, you shouldn't be worrying.
You can find out by using 1 of the 3 apps I mentioned previously.

i say, is it possible that the battery drain comes from new kernel?(AK)
also thanks for your help dude, and i modified googleplay services as you've told me with my fresh install of cm11...
I have 2 days of battery life almost and still have 20% left. I use this phone heavily and haven't recharged.
I had the same problem where 60% drain overnight.
Now 2 says.
All I did was turn off Facebook Location services.
That's it.
Facebook was draining so much. I have Wifi on, GPS with High Accuracy.
Facebook always drains a significant amount of battery, I prefer using the mobile website but if you must need the app then greenify it.

Deep Sleep % at idle?

I am curious what others are seeing in terms of deep sleep percentage and as a direct consequence battery drain? I have no 3rd party apps installed yet on my phone and have Google set to sync only Inbox, Pics, Chrome, Contacts, and Calendar. I also have most of my apps set to close with screen off. I only keep Inbox, Hangouts, and Nova Launcher running. With these settings I get a deep sleep % of about 85%. Whats really perplexing the awake time (with screen off) is over 3 hours over a 48 hour period which results in about 1.5% battery drain per hour. I know from previous experience with Android that this is mainly due to power wakelock which is essentially apps syncing. However, with all my other phones I usually get about 95-97% deep sleep at idle and a battery drain of about 0.3-0.5% per hour.
So my question...what are you getting in terms of deep sleep percentage at idle and battery drain rate per hour?
i noticed the same on my mate 9 after latest firmware update after few days but havent figure out what is causing it yet

This is overnight time so there is no wifi and network data. I have root and debloat all huawei apps. Currently there are about 100 apps on my phone and there is no app managing battery except the stock huawei one. You can go back a few pages to see what I use in my normal days. Currently I start to play a new game with my friend, it's called Valkyrie Connect and with this phone I can handle it for about 6-7hrs of playing game at 40% brightness with 15% battery left. Let it settle for a few day then see if it helps.

Battery Drain (Pixel 4a Global)

I reformatted to factory settings, and even reinstalled all factory images. I still get a lot of battery drain daily. the battery details screenshot indicates that Google is always on and Suspend Wakelock is always on. what can I do to fix this issue? I am unable to keep this phone otherwise. I always have battery drain issues on Android yet seems as though Google has not provided a stable fix...
I cant get even one hour of screentime on Android until it hits 80%.
I just need to know how to fix the Wakelock issue because I think that's what it is. I tried Wakelock apps but they don't do anything.
EDIT: resolved. just reflashed using Android Flash Tool and that corrected it.

Oy Vey. Battery life (power consumption) is outstanding on this device right out of the box. No rogue wakelocks here. Misbehaving apps and panel brightness are the two biggest drainers. Adjust your life and so called "SOT" will improve. Note the battery is 'only' ~3140 mAh. Don't expect all day longevity if gaming or in constant use. That's not what this phone is about.
I was able to resolve the issue by reflashing. I had used BBS hence why the suspendlockout at 100%.
Steps to resolve. (aware that this may not be the most ideal option for some)
- Reflash using the Android Flash Tool (don't manually update, just use the flash tool provided by Google)
- Start from scratch. Do not restore from backup. Install most needed apps.
- Observe battery drain over the course of the day
The issue was that Google app (not sure which app that is) did not run in background properly hence the high drain.
I was able to get 6 hours of SOT once I reflashed. Here is to hoping 7 hours of SOT with a modified kernel.

Kernel appears well optimized on this device; doubt you will see significant power utilization improvements with custom varients. More likely to score headaches w/o a corresponding benefit.

Yep - especially if signal is weak/marginal forcing the mobile radio to maintain a higher power level. Same thing can happen on WiFi although have more options to cycle WiFi on/off during screen off operations. In contrast, mobile radio is on 7x24 unless you tell it otherwise.

I saw that the Pixel 5 is about the same form size as the 4a but with the larger battery. Out of curiosity, anyone know if it’s possible to jam that 4,000mah battery inside the 4a? I haven’t seen the internals so don’t know if there’s enough room.
