Does anyone have a voicemail app? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions & Answers

I used to use Virgin Mobile with a Galaxy S5. It came with a handy visual voicemail app. Figured that since Virgin Mobile uses the Sprint network that Sprint would offer something similar.
Can't find any such app. Looked in the Sprint pre-installed folder and just alphabetically for either Sprint, visual or voicemail. Nothing.
Is my S8+ unique or did it get lost or overridden when using the Google set up a new device based on another device operation? I did notice a few old or inappropriate apps getting installed because they were on my other device.

Sprint does have a visual voicemail app that should come installed with your phone. On my Galaxy S8, it's a bright yellow icon that says Voicemail.

Here you go latest version

I used Bk uninstall to disable all the Sprint bloat and Installed Youmail. There is no other app for visual voicemail like it. You can set up individual Answer Messages fot each contact, you block callers, my favorite feature is to have the system tell unwanted callers that my number is disconnected, Or have Spockd Voice tske a message. And best of all is free. I even have it at my home line and the Messages left there go to my email.

My unlocked S8 came with no vvm app. Installing the apk linked above doesn't work (thanks for posting, though), as it appears that it does not integrate with the system. I also have the persistent VM icon after reboot.

I have the same issue with my unlocked S8, did you ever find a work around? I tried youmail but didnt like that it wasn't generic and used my contact names during the message.

Me and my husband just got unlocked Note 8's. We actually had YouMail before and it wouldn't work for either one of us and I chatted with the YouMail support person and they gave me different numbers to try and mind started working. But my husband still won't work and says something about ocn carrier error and he even tried the same numbers that work for me and they won't work for him on his phone it's weird.
We have Sprint and I have something in my notifications that will not go away that says 4 new voicemails dial *86 his doesn't have that. I just leave it cause I don't want to reset my phone but I'm thinking something backed up from my 7 Edge to make that appear in my notifications and won't go away. But I don't know why the numbers you mail gave me worked on my phone and not his.
What's another good free VM app? Thanks!

I tired it in my note ( imilka - ICS rom ) . It installs fine and when i enter the password it stays connecting.
U need to have visual voicemail activated in your account.
Can someone try in other roms and see if this works.
Below is from his thread
Okay, took some time, but here it is, AT&T Visual Voicemail for AT&T customers using ANY & ALL Roms, custom or other than CWS__001 stock.
Please feel free to use it or link to it here, just make sure you give me a little love (mention) & hit the thanks button.
This is intended for chefs to provide cooked in or as an addition for their AT&T users. It should also work on Captivate, Captivate Glide, Inspire, SGS & SGS2 roms.
READ ME: For Visual Voicemail to work, you need to either have one of the Android 2.3.x officially provisioned for the service or you must have paid for the service.
On some devices, you may need to set up the AT&T PTA APN for this to work.
I do not publish hacks or cracks that violate terms of service or help you avoid paying for services. If you have an LTE Android Device Visual Voicemail sock was added to your account at provisioning & will then work on any of your devices with this file.
Doesn't work.

Hope I don't get flamed, but I can't seem to find any detailed instructions on how to install this file. I downloaded the file and unzipped it on my Macbook Pro, dropped the folder WM_GSLEON3 on my external_sd card. On my Galaxy Note I downloaded ES File Explorer, and if I've done anything right up to this point, I have no idea which files or where I need to put them. What else can you expect from a newbe
Install the apk inside the zip
@Taptalk-GalaxyNote
Hi all, forum newbie here. Just want to be sure I'm clear on using the Visual Voicemail app. I downloaded it to my stock AT&T LTE Note, unzipped & installed fine.
When I launch the app, it asks me to call my VM. I do, then tap [asterisk] twice to hang up the call. I can't post screenshots here yet, but that generates VVM setup screen #1, which reads:
"Account Setup. Welcome to AT&T Visual Voicemail. To complete your Visual Voicemail setup, please call Voicemail."
I tap the Call Voicemail button. That doesn't call my voicemail (in the usual sense), but generates VVM setup screen #2, which reads:
"Account Setup, Please wait. Setting up your account."
That churns for a minute or so, then I get setup screen #3:
"An account verifications has not been received yet.
"Verify your network connectivity.
"Call your Voicemail again, and make sure that you enter the voicemail successfully.
"Contact support to verify that your Visual Voicemail service is activated."
So, if I understand the threads about this service:
- The Visual Voicemail app is ATT's UI for a service which they have to initiate on a user's account. Correct? I.e., it's a toggle/whatever at their end?
- VVM is available to stock ATT LTE Note users? Or must I root to have access to the service?
When I called 611 about this process, the ATT rep said VVM is available only through their AT&T Messages app. (I didn't tell him about threads on this forum which warn users away from that app; I haven't installed it.) "You do all the setup at your end," he said.
So, for those of you who have set up the Visual Voicemail app:
Did you have to go through an ATT rep to initialize the service at their end?
Any advice on what to tell future reps to make it clear what I need to start up VVM using the Visual Voicemail app?
(Dealing with these people has so far not given me great confidence in their autonomy or critical-thinking skills.)
TIA for any wisdom. I'm an Android newbie, but totally digging the Note, & 2.3.6.
As far as I know, nobody has this working on a N7000 Note.
That would explain my failure. Thanks.

Currently VVM works only with lines that have iphone or an LTE enabled device.
My phone line is iphone but i use that on my note.
If u have an iphone then call them up and ask them to activate the VVM.
Thanks, drgopoos. I'll call ATT & try with a different rep. (The first told me I could only use ATT's Messages app, which everyone here seems to abhor.)
So I need a LTE plan or just give them an ATT Note IMEI then add feature? Are they going to force me into LTE data plan?

Not sure where I'm going wrong then.
I just bought a ATT Note and activated it.
I then sold that phone on Ebay and used that SIM in my N7000.
I installed VVM and set my PIN thru the normal Voicemail.
Then I tried to login with VVM and the PIN won't work??
It just sits there and doesn't finish login.
Any ideas?
Happened with me when i was on asop rom.

OK, well, I got VVM to work because I got an ATT phone rep with a brain. He knew nothing of the new app, but dug into hnis database & figured out how to turn on ("provision") VVM on my account—apparently a feat of some ledgerdemain.
After hi flipped his toggle in side the Death Star, the VVM app responded: created a scrollable list of all my existing VMs (the rep warned me they'd be destroyed by the process, but they weren't). The app preserved my outgoing message & I tested the app by having my wife call me.
So the hitch in this process—as is ever the case with huge corporations who don't care if you ever use their products, only if you pay for them—was the human factor.
Moral: get the right rep on the phone & you can configure your phone for ease of use … if you're lucky.

Cool story but tell us what plan you are on? IPhone? Lte? Regular? All you did was add VVM without changing your plan at all?

Did he inquire about which phone you had? Or how you were using VVM on your phone?
---------- Post added at 12:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:25 AM ----------
I got this working today.
But another problem cropped up.
I keep getting "Green Plus sign" notifications on the status bar when using the pta apn. It is some type of advertisement that wants me to click on it and open a website. If I switch to wap.cingular apn, it does not het the notification bar, but I don't think VMM works either.
Any ideas about that Green Plus sign and how to stop that?

[Q] How do I clear & STOP persistent voicemail notification? (Sprint GV user)

I have read the many past messages on this, but none completely work. FYI, I have my Sprint account integrated with GV.
If I receive a message and delete it (Actually, archive it as Sprint VM calls it.), the notification doesn't go away until I clear Phone data. When I receive another voicemail, the notification comes back along with I assume is GV's. GV's is easy to clear. Sprint's isn't and it keeps coming back.
How can I stop Sprint from sending VM notifications? Setting in dialer or GV or GV app?
Right there with ya. Only my Dialer VM Setting doesn't have GV in it...it did...but vanished! No idea how to get it back without a factory image flash.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
are you on a custom rom? I haven't experienced that since carbon with GV integration with that dialer, but there was a known bug that was around since july and they never got arount to fixing it
I'm using stock rooted Nexus 5.
Same. Stock + root + cwm

I had the same problem but I'm on AT&T. I resolved this issue by going on the Google voice website and deleting my AT&T mobile number from the service (you'll find this in the settings). I then re-added the my AT&T mobile number to the service and verified the account on my phone (per the website's instructions). I have not had an issue on my N5 since doing this. I tend to switch between several phones and I'll occasionally get this issue with new devices.
I know I'm a little late, but I've had this problem for month and just found a solution.
There's an exposed module called NotifyClean. You can use that to disable specific notifications on startup. I tried it and it works for me.
Cheers.

Visual Voicemail

I'm a Sprint user, and despite the fact that I had signed up for the premium Sprint Visual Voicemail on my prior device, I no longer have it on my unlocked Pixel 2. I was somewhat bummed that I now have to go back to dialing into my VM, which is something I haven't needed to do in a long time. In fact, it feels like I'm taking a few backward steps in this process (There isn't even a VM tab on the dialer app anymore; and oddly enough when I signed into my VM last night, Sprint acted as if I was a new customer which included them having erased my previous greetings and corresponding password.)
So far, the best I've been able to do is setup my cell phone number to forward to my Google Voice number whenever I fail to answer, which in turn leaves a visual VM in my GV app, and which also pushes a notification for it as well as sends me a SMS notification of such. I already had my GV number forwarding to my cell phone number for ringing/answering purposes, but I was able to always separate my visual VMs between the two services so I never mistook which number they were being left at (Which in turn determined whether I dialed back with the Sprint number or the GV number).
Have any of you found any other solutions to this issue, or do you know of any future Google or Sprint solutions possibly in the works? What I'm doing may work for now, but it sort of feels like a self-applied workaround patch as opposed to a streamlined process.
Thanks.
I use HulloMail. It is an app which can be downloaded from the Play Store. Once installed and set up, unanswered calls go to to HulloMail's servers and you get alerted so you can open the app and see a list of your voicemail messages. It can also send you an email with the message attached. There is a free tier with adverts but it is very cheap to get rid of the adverts. I've been using it for years and it is 100% reliable and effective. I have the widget on my homescreen. Check and see if it would work with your service supplier.
Does Verizon not have a separate Visual Voicemail app you can download from the play store? I am on ATT and that's how I use my VVM on my Pixel 2, I downloaded ATT's VVM app and just signed in with my voicemail pin.

Cant Activate Visual Voicemail - T-Mobile

I have the Pixel XL 2 and have been trying to get the visual voicemail feature to work ever since I received it in October, but each time I try I get the message "Cant activate visual voicemail. You can still call to check voicemail. TRY AGAIN or CALL VOICEMAIL".
I called T-Mobile and they did everything they could on their end but the feature baked into the phone still wont work. I tried to reset the network and that didn't fix it. I tried to download the T-Mobile Visual Voicemail and it wouldnt work either -- it would open and show all my old voicemails from 2 years ago, but it just wouldn't sync. I spoke with T-Mobile tech support and the guy suggested I put the sim in my old phone to rule out that the Pixel was the problem. I switched the sim from my Pixel and put it in my old Galaxy S7 Edge and the T-Mobile app still didn't work. I would get an error stating "Failed to synchronize voicemails. Please make sure that you have connection to the data network." So I updated everything on the old phone and it still wouldnt work, so I switced the same back in the Pixel. After I switched the sim I deleted and downloaded the T-Mobile Visual Voicemail app again and it finally synced, but I dont want to use the T-Mobile Visual Voicemail app, I want to use the stock version baked into the OS. It still wont work...
Does anyone have the stock Visual Voicemail working on their Pixel XL 2?
This is so frustrating.
Strange - I have a T-Mobile sim in my Pixel 2 and the voicemail works flawlessly. I had a similar setup as you where I came from an old phone that required the T-Mobile visual voicemail app, but now the Google Dialer app has it built in and didn't require any setup to get working. Voicemails appear within 30 seconds after leaving a message.
I'm not sure why this is a problem... Im beginning to think its something on the T-Mobile network or possibly a bad sim card...
One interesting fact is that the baked in VVM somehow switched itself off during all of this and when I switched it back on it still wouldnt work, but thats when the T-Mobile VVM started working... Its the strangest thing... so, disabling the baked in VVM kills the T-Mobile app and enabling it allows the T-Mobile VVM to work. No matter what I do, the Google Dialer app wont kick in.... I need suggestions that dont require a Factory reset. Perhaps the app transfer process when I set up my phone has something to do with the issue... idk
Got it sorted.
Turns out the initial setup of my Pixel caused the issue. I opted to port over all of my apps from my S7 Edge and transferred a few Samsung apps that may have compromised the VVM. Out of frustration/desperation, I did a factory reset and as soon as the phone started up Google Dialer's VVM was working, so I added all my apps back to the phone from Googles most recent backup, which included T-Mobiles VVM and something killed it again. So I did another factory reset and this time I reviewed each and every app to install from the backup and found quite a few Samsung apps, so I omitted them along with T-Mobiles VVM app and now all is well. Im leary on attempting to install the T-Mobile VVM again, but I do miss the VM's being transcribed from voice to text....
Any recommendations on a good app that can convert VM's to text?
The transcription service from T-Mobile costs about $4/mo. So unless you were paying for it, you were only getting the 30 day trial for free. If you use any other app, you'll lose the VVM integration in the phone dialer.

Yeah, I recently added the $4/mo service thinking that the reason why VVM didnt work was because I needed to pay... I took it off, so I guess I'll just keep the stock VVM.

Any resolutuion to this?
I also have a Pixel 2 XL with t-mobile. When I bought it I found that the TM VVM app wasn't synching either. Cleared cache, datat deleted reinstalled and nothing would make it work.
While the TM VVM app was installed, the built-in dialer VVM didn't exist. It just wasn't there.
I deleted (tried this twice) and a few hours later the built-in Google Phone app dialer VVM was there. But, it wasn't transcribing, just showing and playing the voice mails. Then, it started transcribing them. Then, a few days later it stopped.
After trying both, I like the TM VVM better. It's bigger, and you can sort them.
But, neither of them are working now.

OK, wait a minute...
It appears Google put a setting in to enable transcripiton and it's turned off by default. Lets turn it on and try again.
So, to clarify....
The Google VVM setting doesn't appear unless you delete the T-Mobile VVM app.
Then, it takes a few hours up to a day to show up in the Phone app settings.
Previously it would just transcribe.
After it stopped trascribing it appeared that Google added a setting to enable transcription.
Voicemail transcription
Get transcripts of your voicemail using Google's transcription service. (Learn More).
Then, when I enabled that, another setting appeared
Voicemail transcription analysis
Let Google review your voicemail messages to improve transcription accuracy. Your voicmail messages are stored anonymously. (Learn more)
Lets see how this goes.
The free and easy way to get transcribed VVM is to setup Google voice, then use the dialer codes for TMo to forward your calls to your voice number. Unlimited VMs, and you can check them from any device or PC that GV is installed on. And, free is always good
I had to uninstall the non-native visual voicemail app I downloaded and clear the cache of the phone app to get the option to appear in settings. It kept some of my voicemails too which was unexpected.
My issue seems to come back after every security update... I'm back to square one and it seems that the only resolution is to factory reset my phone and then it starts working again until the next update... ugh!
This is the best Android phone I've ever owned, but the user experience to date has been the most frustrating. The ability to make and receive phone calls as well as voicemails is the backbone of any phone... why the heck is this so difficult!?! I swear I have a defective phone or a faulty sim card, because I cant understand why I don't receive my voicemails!
so...to remind everyone I also have a Pixel 2 XL. I was also having the problem of t-Mobile VVM not synching. I finally got it to work.
First, if you have st-Mobile VVM fon your phone, even if not turned on, it will cause the VVM in Googles built dialer to disappear.
I noticed at the same time that I signed up for the Android P Beta, that a new version of T-Mobiles VVM appeared on Google Play. So, first, give the new version a try. I did that update at the same time I switched to Android P Beta, so I don't 'know which helped.
First, clear the cash and data for the old T-Mobile VMM, then uninstall it.
Also, I have found that certain combo's of plans with T-Mobile are not compatible with VM to text. I found that the newer VMM worked, but the feature you have to pay for to convert to text to read it wasn't compatible with my plan. This was per the T-Mobile CSR's. I could listen to VMM, but not read it.
The built-in Google VMM would transcribe to text, but, it didn't seem as robust. Many times it would say it couldn't transcribe. Also, the T-Mobile VMM has more features...easier to delete, you can sort by date, number, etc. You can delete multiples at one time etc.
So, I like T-Mobile VMM better, but since it can't transcribe to text for me, I went back to Google built in one.

No Incoming SMS or MMS on Verizon

Hey OnePlus fam,
I just thought I would put this out as PSA for anyone on Verizon and having issues with SMS or MMS, as there is little information out there on this for our specific phones.
If you are unable to send or receive any text messages it is most like that the "CDMA-Less" feature needs to be activated.
You can call Verizon and ask them to enable "CDMA-Less" to your account.
Hope this helps
I had to get a new sim card that fixed my problem
Here are also a few links too; the first two are for a 6T but to concept still applies.
https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/no-incoming-sms-or-mms-on-verizon.935610/
https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/verizon-text-messages.937506/
VZW information
https://opendevelopment.verizonwireless.com/faqs?s=LTE
Had the same issue.
Called Verizon and asked them to enable this device as CDMA-less.
Been working perfect since.
Same here. I inserted my Verizon sim in the international version. Data at 50Mbps, Voice, Visual Voicemail and outgoing text messages worked. If it doesn't work for you, make sure you are using slot 1. It may matter. If you have a very old sim, you might need a new one.
I called Verizon and carefully explained that incoming sms was not functional as this was a next generation phone for a world where Verizon turns off their CDMA at the end of 2019 and SMS is routed over LTE. I instructed him to make sure "CDMA-less" was available both in the billing account and the network account. After a bit of digging he found the provisioning settings. Seconds after the phone was provisioned, sms started flooding in the stock message app. Also make sure IMS Basic Visual Voicemail is on your account if VM is giving you trouble. I use VZW Message+ (Verizon Messages) for sms as I can text from a PC also and it will restore previous sms.
By definition the phone uses VOLTE so there is no setting for HD Voice in the phone. That feature is required on your Verizon account but you would have to be switching from an ancient phone not to already have that. I cannot locate any option for Wifi calling and it does not work in airplane mode. I have a google voice number which allows Wifi calling. Interestingly it errors when the phone is in airplane mode but works when cell service is on. It reports "Wifi Call" and appears to use the stock dialer when initiated from the Voice app. Somehow Voice is even more tightly integrated with the stock dialer now than just trapping and routing international calls. This is a bug of sorts as my Moto phone on 8.0 could call in airplane mode with wifi on.
Google Duo appears to be integrated in the dialer but I haven't tried with my wife's Pixel to see if I can switch to Duo while on a regular voice call.
Bootloader unlock was simple: Tap Build # 6x, Developer Options - OEM unlocking, adb reboot recovery, fastboot oem unlock [This erases the phone]
The 7 Pro is an amazing device! Truly the most amazing. I'm really excited. The phone is super super slippery and a drop magnet. It does come with a TPU case.
I'm going to sell my kid's mint 5T and upgrade him too!
BT sucks worse than the Moto phone but I think that is an Android thing as my wife's pixel as issues to with her car. Contacts not syncing and calls not going through while connected to BT. Just have to do work arounds when I have some time.
Hoping video is fixed for the wide camera. They are amazing; but then, I'm coming from a Moto phone which has the worst cameras. Sony knows what they are doing.
Sorry to wake an old thread but did not want to start a new one.
I have verizon and have cdma-less provisioning done already. Have HD voice on the account as well. SMS works fine but I can only send MMS not receive them.
Ive tried moving sim card to other slot, tried reboot, tried factory reset, tried different apps...nothing.
The only time MMS fully works is when I am in safe mode. Anyone have any ideas on what it could be?
Thank you

Permissions were all good, sms/mms permission is in one.
I tried verizon app, MMS works, dont really like the app though, and the customization didnt help me like it enough to keep it.
Super weird that verizon messages work but not the stock app or the Mood SMS app.

I had to call Verizon 2 or 3 times for them to get it right
I downloaded a couple other SMS apps and they all work fine. So leads me to believe its just something weird with the stock app and with Mood SMS. I will switch to QKSMS for now and requested assistance from Mood SMS so they could take a look. Thanks all.
I'm going to guess MMS didn't work with that app while you were on wifi? Some apps don't know how to route MMS data properly when there both data and wifi available.
It's an option that has to be enabled on the account for Verizon customers, it's the cdma-less option. It took me a couple representatives til one of knew what I was talking about lol
I think his issue is slightly different as he can recieve sms but not mms and it varies on the app he's using.

No that I already checked. I still have not figured out why I cannot receive MMS on the stock app or on mood SMS. Mood had not replied to my email. I switched to qksms and have no issues anymore.
So ya if anyone else runs into something like I did, try different SMS apps
Yup, I learned this very quickly when I got the OnePlus 6t. Just getting them to understand that the phone was certified on VZW. Then 4 techs before one knew what to do. I think they now can address quickly even over chat.

If I get Verizon prepaid will they be able to do this? I had Verizon prepaid once in the past and customer service was much worse than regular Verizon wireless. I am pretty sure that mvnos can't do it but I'm hoping Verizon prepaid can.

I'm not sure
Yeah, there's a lot more to this than enabling CDMA-less. Before about a month ago data/sms/MMS wasn't working on Android 10 based custom roms and MMS still doesn't work unless you use Messages+.
I get both fine I just have issues with them being received after the phone goes idle for a while. My issues are small stupid crap mile messenger not closing with home button all the time and and Gboard sometimes won't type into the field I'm in
